Captivate 6--closed captioning not advancing

I have been converting files from Captivate 5.5 to Captivate 6 and assumed the closed captioning was advancing.  I had no difficulty in 5.5 with the closed captioning advancing.  In the converted files, the first closed caption appears and remains despite the voice advancing.  I have had no difficulty in the past with closed captioning.  I have ensured the appropriate boxes are checked for closed captioning and that the markers are placed where the closed captioning should change.  I am not using any click boxes or anything exotic.  I just import pptx files, use text to voice conversion, and then move the markers to where the closed captioning should advance to match the change in voices (I use a different voice for each caption).  Some screen shots are:
I am having to convert my files in Captivate 6 since the pdf's are no longer readable with the updates to Adobe Reader.  However, now my students can no longer view the closed captioning unless I save as just one caption per slide.  SInce I have a distance undergraduate course currently underway and another starting this Fall, I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can offer.  Thanks.

Gotcha -- basically the old non-technical method.
ATTENTION:
I am BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN CASTRO, the Chief of General Staff,
GHANA. I am mailing you in respect, of the present development going on
here in my country GHANA.
I decided to contact you, after much investigation which was carried out
by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and the Ghana Police

which is going on here in Africa and for our country to bear a good name.
The Airport Authority detected that trunk boxes after been scanned the
authorities detected that the boxes contains funds on your name and email
that has been tempered on, were been smuggled into the country by foreign
Personnel who were on transit from London.
These men were trying to enter the country with the trunk boxes, when the
airport authority detected that these boxes contains, some huge amount of
United State Dollars. After much investigation we found out that these men
were among those men, spoiling the good name of Africa.
They opened up to us that, they actually work with a Lotto company before
their dismissal and used the opportunity to perpetuate their crimes, they
told us that the funds inside the boxes was won by you, but now they
planned to turn back on you and decided to take the money all to
themselves out of the country. We later found out on the investigation
that was carried that, these men are truly members of a well established
organization to act on their criminal activities.
As I write you this mail now, the three(3) men that were caught are now in
the custody of the Ghana Police Service over here in our country Ghana,
while we are trying to track the others left, because they have proved
to us that they belong to one organization.
That is why we have to reach you by your mail address and name that was
tagged the boxes, so we can give to the diplomat to deliver to you hand in
hand.
Your response will be very much appreciated as soon as you have received
this email.as the diplomat is already to take his flight to your country.
Thank you for your kind attention, for us to make sure our beloved country

  • Closed captions on advanced action (play audio)

Been using CP8 for awhile now and have a question about closed captioning with advanced actions.
I have a single slide with audio that plays when the slide starts. Also has 4 action buttons on the slide. I wanted to force the user to click all four buttons before the slide would continue. Each button press would also play an audio file.
I created an advanced action for each button that sets it's own button variable to "1", enables the visibility on the highlight objects for that button area, and plays an associated audio file for that button area. The advanced action also tests to see if all four button variables are set to 1. If true, it enables a continue button to go to the next slide.
My problem is that for the closed captioning, I only get CC on the intro audio. I can't seem to figure out how to get the CC for the audio played by the advanced action. It just shows the original CC for the main slide.
Is there a way to change the CC contents from within the advanced actions so that when they click the button, it plays the audio and changes the CC? I cannot use other boxes to display the CC info. It has to be in the CC box.
Otherwise, I'm looking at creating a separate slide for each button click (jump to slide X) which plays the audio and CC. I was trying to avoid having 5 slides instead of one.
    Any suggestions?

Only slide audio appears in CC, not object audio. You will have to add text containers that you show if cpCmndCC is set to 1, and hide if it is set to 0.

  • CP8 Interactions and slides with audio and closed captions - not working well - please help

Okay, I am using cp8 on a windows 8 64 bit machine. I have placed an interaction on a slide. I also have audio on that slide and closed captions.
When I get to the slide, the audio does not play because the mere fact that the interaction is on there makes the slide pause upon enter. I could have the student click play on the playbar to go, but that is not required on slides without interactions, so I don't like that solution. I also could do an On Enter slide Play Audio and pick the wav file, but then the closed captions don't show up.
So, the question is, how do I have the slide automatically play the audio at the slide level without the student having to click the play button to go?? Slides with interactions should behave just like other slides with objects/widgets on them. This auto pausing thing is driving me nuts!
    Thanks,
      Lori

Lori, this is puzzling! Are you talking about one of the learning interactions included with Captivate? If yes, which one? My puzzlement is due to the fact that what you described is what happened in CP6: interaction paused slide at first frame (I had a workaround for audio). But since CP7 interactions do not pause any slide, you'll have to provide the pause yourself. There are some exceptions (games).

  • Closed captions not appearing

I opened my captivate project in the trial version of captivate 6 and now the closed captions do not appear in the output. They worked in the 5.5. version. I ensured that all the appropriate CC settings in the Slide Audio and the Skin Editor are selected. The CC image bar we use appears correctly, but not the text that goes over it. HELP!

    Welcome to Adobe Forums!
Can you check if that is working in preview over a Web Browser?
Can you share the screenshot of the content from output, at times, if there is an interactive object awaiting the user response, the CC do not appear. Can you check what other objects are present on your slide?
    Thanks,

  • Captivate 7, closed captions in multiple languages for YouTube

    Hi,
I'm creating a tutorial that is destined for YouTube. The tutorial has voice over-lay in English. I need to create closed captioning for several languages (e.g. Spanish, French, Portuguese) for YouTube. The Closed Captions will appear coincide with the voice over-lay on each slide, but the voice over-lay will always be in English.
Has anyone else ever done this? I've studied up on the Closed Captioning guidelines for YouTube. I can easily create the Closed Captioning for each language using their guidelines. However, I need to understand how to locate the exact timing of each slide such as shown in the example below.
    Example:
    3
    00:00:06,770 --> 00:00:10,880
    >> ALICE: Today we'll be teaching you how to make
    our famous chocolate chip cookies!
    Thank you for your help!

Captivate provides no really easy way to get these time indexes across the entire project.  You can watch the time being shown at the bottom of the TOC if you want and make notes based on that.  But the CC Slide Audio dialog only shows the timing for each individual slide unless you have a single audio clip spread over multiple slides.
So you might be in for a considerable amount of tedium.

  • Closed captioning not working on Toshiba 50L1400U

I have a new Toshiba 50L1400U. If I push the C.Caption button on the remote, I get the red box/exclamation point saying "Not Available". If I go through the menu and selection Options, the Closed Captions option is greyed out. Any thoughts? I've seen similar questions posted for other models but no resolutions. Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you cable comes from the wall directly to the TV, that button will work. However, if you use a cable box, the cable box handles the caption signals. The information for the captions isn't sent to the TV until the cable box is told to do so, so there's no way for the TV to turn on the captions.

  • Closed Captions not 508 Compliant!

In order to be Section 508 compliant – required by government (US) contracts – I need to be able to keep the closed caption on the screen until the user clicks or performs the requested task or indicates that they are done with that slide. Right now all I get is Closed Captions while the audio is playing. I know that I can add silence at the end of audio clips but the closed captions just blanks out when the audio clip is over. It is not physically possible for the hearing impaired to watch the action on the screen (how to use software for instance) and read closed captions at the same time, therefore the closed caption needs to remain “on” for the rest of the slide – or at least that should be an option. Without this option the closed captions and are useless for functional closed captioning and can’t be made Government (US) Section 508 compliant.
Does anyone have a work-around for this? We have Government contracts coming up and may have to get off Captivate if I can’t make this work!

I am unsure as to the actual answer, however, the "skin" that include the Closed Captions is actually an swf. The point of publishing to HTML is because some devices (ie I-pad) cant play the swf. So the HTML version skips the swf- which of course includes the "skin".
That said, I think the Table of Contents works in HTML, so maybe I am incorrect in sayin the "skin" is an swf. Maybe only the "playbar" is an swf. But it seems the CC is still related to the playbar.
If anyone knows how to use the built-in Closed Caption feature with HTML, I would LOVE to hear it. But I am suspecting the CCs will have to be done by hand.

  • Closed Captioning not showing up at specified In / Out points

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded to a trial of 7.2.1 (I'm a *long* time CS user) and am having an issue with closed captioning that's got me pulling my hair out. Upon importing a .scc file and inspecting it in the captions tab, I have all the captions I'm expecting at the proper timecodes (for example if I look up the start of a line in the program window the start timecode matches the "In" timecode listed in the Captions tab).
However upon playing the timeline and turning on Closed Caption display - the captions are not displaying (nor disappearing) at the in/out timecodes listed in the caption tab. They're showing up (roughly) seven seconds later at the beginning of the program, and over 11 seconds late by the end of the program.
Does anyone have the foggiest idea how to resolve this? I guess it's possible it's just a player issue and the issue will correct itself on output, but that's not really comforting. I could do what I need on this job by renewing my license for some other software, but Premiere would be a more versitile use of my limited software upgrade budget - but only if it can actually do the job properly.

    Hi Mark and monstremoi,
With all the fiddling I've been doing in raw captioning files the fact that I didn't just try increasing the hight of the track is completely rediculous. Lo and behold, there are the handles! Once I could actually see the captions in the track I noticed something interesting - that the .scc and .xml files are being interpreted quite differently.
If I take the same caption source file and output one xml and one scc and lay them on top of each other, this is what it looks like:
The XML is starting immediately at timecode 0, even though the first start time should be 4:06 (weirdly the scc is actually starting at the right time code in this test, something it's refused to do previously).
If I manually set the offset of the first caption by forwarding the xml caption track to 4:06 we get this:
*This* XML track seems to play out synchronous with the program albeit with some odd formatting (it doesn't appear to be reading any of the font positioning information from the timed text file, it's just playing everything top frame, justified left.
Already though up above you can see though that although the SCC stars at the right timecode, it's starting to drift out of sync less than 30 seconds in - which doesn't make any sense when both have been output from the same 29.97 timebase source.
Monstremoi - to answer you questions, no I've not done any captioning work in premiere pro previously. I actually didn't even know it was a feature until I read about the improvements in CC. Most of our captioning files come from Annotation Edit (zeitanker.com). If they're not prepared in AnnotationEdit / AnnotationTranscriber, we usually do some conversion work through it before outputting (usually to set offsets or whatever if we're adding presentation cards or something).
Happy to send you files to pull apart - although I'd rather not post them as a forum d/l link. Do you have an e-mail I can send them to?

  • Embedded closed captions not viewable

I have read most of the threads on embedded closed captions in this forum and after experiencing similar problems I have come to the conclusion that embedding captions in QT .mov files is not properly implemented. I could be wrong. I hope someone can show that is the case.
    Steps taken:
    1) created a closed caption track in a 2:40 minute Video as the top level video track (V4 in my case) using the CEA 608 CC1 caption stream. Captions show up in the program window properly enabled.
    2) Exported the entire clip directly from Premier Pro CC 2014  as a Quicktime .mov file with captions "embedded in Output file" (also tried exporting through Media Encoder--same results noted below).
Closed captions DO NOT show up in the resulting .mov file when played in Quicktime Player 10.3 on a Mac running OSX 10.9.5, even with subtitles set to "automatic"
Closed captions DO NOT show up in VLC Media Player 2.1.5 or 2.0.5.
Closed captions DO NOT show up when the .mov file is imported into an iPad Air running IOS 10.1.1 and played in Safari. This is my target destination and is critical.
Closed captions DO show up when the mov file is re-imported into Premier Pro and that clip is active in the preview window.
Closed captions DO show up when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 7 when "Show closed captioning" is active in the "View" menu. Quicktime Player 7 reveals that a "Closed Captions" video track exists as track #3 in the mov file under "Movie Properties".
I have uploaded the .mov file discussed above and made it available for public download if anyone can help me figure out how to get closed captioning to work. It is intended to be played on an iPad from a Self-Guided Tour app under development, which will play it using the native IOS video player when the file thumbnail is clicked. If the IOS Video Player is the same as QT Player 10.3 on a Mac, it defaults to "subtitles automatic". I don't know for certain, however.
Please note that this file, while a draft version, is the property of the California Automobile Museum which reserves all rights to its use including reposting, copying or modifying.

Thanks for the posting on the forums here. I downloaded your file and I looked at it in the following places:
    GENERAL PLAYBACK MAC
    10.8.5 (12F45)
    with QuickTime 10.3
I could see the closed captioning in the player.
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    10.9 (13A603)
    with QuickTime 10.3 (727.1)
I could see the closed captioning in the player -- had to set it under View-> Subtitles-> English CC
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    10.9 updated to 10.9.5 (13F34)
    with QuickTime 10.3 (727.4)
Closed captions are not being displayed, under any setting (choice is Off or AUTO) -- appears to be an update problem.
This is not just a failure of PPRO embedded closed caption MOVs, but also embedded MOVs from other closed caption authoring solutions like Telestream, and Annotation Edit.
I can log a bug on my side, but the problem is not in PPRO -- I'd check with Apple on this.
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    VLC MEDIA PLAYER
It appears from my quick testing with VLC Media Player --  VLC Media Player is not detecting embedded closed captions in files from PPRO, nor from other industry standard closed caption authoring solutions, like from Telesteam, they make MacCaption and Caption Maker. I also checked embedded files from Annotation Edit, another widely used caption authoring solution, and VLC Media Player does not detect embedded closed captioning in those files, either.
I encourage you to look on the side of VLC Media Player for the failure to display closed captions.
    IPAD AIR PLAYBACK
In my testing, I did not test this equipment configuration. If you think you have a problem, please consider logging a bug.
Thanks again for posting here, I hope I answered your questions! If not, let me know, and I'll reply again.

  • Closed captioning not appearing in video files

I've been working on producing a number of videos intended to be used as content in an iPad app for a Self-Guided Museum Tour which is under development by a non-profit Museum I work for. Many of the videos are intended to have closed captions for the hearing impaired.
Videos are being produced with Adobe Premier CC and exported as Quicktime .mov files with embedded closed captioning. These files play in all instances but in most of them, including the current IOS and Mac OS systems, the closed captioning is not visible. Tests indicate:
Closed captioning IS visible when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 10.3 on a Mac running OS 10.8.5 in all instances.
Closed captioning IS visible when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 10.3 on a Mac running OS 10.9 as long as English subtitle is enabled.
Oddly, closed captioning IS visible the .mov file is played on an old copy of Quicktime Player 7 running OS 10.9.5 as long as "show closed captioning" is enabled.
Closed captioning IS NOT visible when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 10.3 (with subtitles either off or automatic) on a Mac running OS 10.9.5.
Closed captioning IS NOT visible when the .mov file is imported into an iPad Air running IOS 8.1.1 and played with Safari using the built-in IOS video player. This is my target destination for the project and is critical.
Since the .mov file does contain an embedded closed captioning track (verified as track 3), the problem does not appear to be with the file or how it was created. The problem appears to be with the video player supplied by Apple in the most current versions of both OSX and IOS. In light of Apple's long-standing priority for accessibility this result is surprising.
Need help if anyone can help figure out how to make closed captions work with the IOS video player.

Problem solved with a little help from a Senior Apple Tech Support person.
Essentially, what has to be done in the current versions of both OSX and IOS  is to configure the playback device's accessibility settings beforehand:
    IOS 8.1.1
    Settings–General–Accessibility–Subtitles and Captioning–turn on "Closed Captions+SDH"
    OSX 10.9.5 and OSX 10.10:
System Preferences–Accessibility–scroll down to Captions and click on "Prefer Closed Captions and SDH”
You can also change the font style for captioning from these menus.
Once done, a small caption icon that looks like a text bubble on the bottom of the screen when videos are loaded, now has a third option besides "Off" and "Automatic". If the video being played has captioning embedded it may read something like "English CC", as it does in the case of my Premier CC-generated, embedded closed captions. Once that is selected, the captions play properly. [Note that in IOS 8.1.1, the caption icon only appears when a video is played in full screen mode.]

  • HBOGO Airplay Closed Captions not working?

    I have an iPad2 and an AppleTV3.
HBOGO Closed Captions works fine on my iPad. As soon as I airplay it to my AppleTV, however, the CC disappear even as I toggle them on and off on the iPad. While holding down on the AppleTV remote's center button usually brings up a subtitle menu on Netflix or movie Airplay's from my computer, doing so on HBOGO Airplaying does nothing.
Has anyone gotten HBOGO CC to work on iPad Airplaying?
    Thanks!

    Loqwood wrote:
To turn off the subtitles you have to go back to the show/movie you were watching NOT THE SETTING MENU. Then you click and hold the center button. A menu will pop up. Turn closed captions to OFF. Once you have done that press "menu" to exit back to the program. Happy watching! (From our 12 year old.)
Finally!  Thanks, Loqwood.  This worked like a charm.

  • Why is closed captioning not available when renting movies?

I've rented a few movies on iTunes and noticed that none that I've rented so far are closed captioned nor offer subtitles in English as an alternative. Yes, the setting is set to show these by default, and I go in to double check anyway -- it's on.
Why is this? If I were to rent this on DVD, these same movies would be captioned. Is this not available when digitally downloaded?

    Hi daisyintampa,
Well, normally movies from the iTunes Store don't include such feature. Despite that, sometimes you'll find a few movies with CC and/or Subtitles...
Definitely all this rules are imposed by the Studios and not by Apple! However, you may want to leave feedback for Apple, by using [this link|http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html].
    Hope this helps!

  • Closed caption not working on programs that claim to be cc per itunes

I just bought my apple tv the month of April 2013.
I bought tv and movies from itunes that claim to be closed captioned (House MD and various movies).
I have enabled the appletv to component to run closed captions in English.
closed captions works on my TV via cable and via DVD, but I am not getting closed captions with my itunes purchases on my appletv.
    What is wrong with AppleTV?
This is 2013 and I am not encouraged by the apple support community statements from 2009 & 2010, does Apple have this feature fixed in 2013 or are you waiting for the second coming of Steve?

I have found that if I play from "my computer/library" closed captioning doesn't work at all.  If I use streaming, it works.  You do have to go into settings to turn it on first of course or press and hold the select button (press and hold only gives you closed caption option when streaming)

  • Closed Captions Not Working

I am trying to create a closed caption in premiere pro cc (trial version) but when I am in the captions tab, am unable to select the 'add' caption button. I have enabled the captions and have watched many video tutorials and searched the web for answers but there is nothing about why the 'add' caption option might not be available?
[Please choose only a short description for the thread title.]
Message was edited by: Jim Simon

Here is what is happening and here is how I work around it. And it is not a happy work around.
I create the closed captioning file, enable the closed captioning window and enable the program closed caption window making sure it is the same cea-708 format. Then when creating captions it is hit or miss, some of them show up some of them do not, there is a sure fire way to tell if it is going to show or not. The black boxes on the left (although very tiny and unreadable) will show the white text. If there is no white text showing there then the caption is not going to show in the program window. It will still show in the timeline, however it will not display on the program window and it will not export.
So some of the captions worked just fine and display properly with no issues, I was able to get about 20 or so captions in a row working properly then I got another blank one. I have tried deleting the caption and creating a new one, I have tried closing premiere and re-opening and still same thing, the next caption will be blank.
My horrible work around: if I leave the blank caption and then create a new one right after it, the new caption works. so for every blank caption I have to create a second one. Pain in the butt! specially considering I am captioning a feature film.
I am supposed to deliver my film to the distributor next week, which is my problem but I could have had a caption service do it for me for about $150 no head aches, instead I went with the CC cloud thing and just like I thought...issues.
First image is the broken caption:
Second image is working caption (BUT ONLY WORKS AFTER KEEPING THE BROKEN ONE IN, if the broken one is deleted the new one also will be broken.)

  • Closed captions not working on Hulu

I recently purchased my MacBook Pro and tried watching shows on Hulu with closed captioning, but the captions do not appear. I tried it in Chrome, Safari and Firefox and had the same problem in each browser. I've downloaded the most recent version of Flash Player.
However, when I watch shows on Hulu on my friend's MacBook Pro, running Leopard, the captions work fine. The only difference I can think of is my computer is on Snow Leopard.
I've tried getting help from Hulu, but got directed to a generic statement about captions.
    Any help would be appreciated.

i have the same probs as posters above. searched google to no avail. ditto on hulu tech support (emailed a couple days ago, no response).
i can view hulu cc on my MBP, but not on my 21 imac. both are running OSX 10.6, have the current version of Flash.
i can't figure out why hulu ccs are veiwable on my MBP and not on my imac. all settings on hulu are the same.
    help? anyone?
