Captivate 6 Issue

After install Captivate 6, I am unable to run the Captivate 6. The error message states that Free diskspace is very low. Recover some hard disk space by clearing the project cache. Even through I clear the project cache and increase the free hard disk on the C drive, I am still unable to run the Captivate 6. Please give me the direction to solve the issue. Thanks. Judy

You'll probably need to free up some space on your disk drives.
You could clear Recycle Bin, remove unwanted files, uninstall unwanted software etc.
I found one link that coudl perhaps help: http://grownupgeek.com/regain-disk-space

  • UNRESOLVED CAPTIVATE ISSUES

In response to a question by Rod Ward in another thread, herewith the unresolved issues with Captivate:
    - Programme not listed in "uninstall list" - that is in Windows Cotrol Panel
    - The Jigsaw widget just hangs when puzzle is not built in time
    - When using Drop and Drag and or Jigsaw widget in project with multiple attemps the widgets "fall over" the moment you add a quiz somehere in the project
    - The Notes widget does not work when you publish to WIndows exe. (Even Adobe experts online could not solve this - several hours with control of my PC)
    - For some reason in some projects the background audio keeps looping, even when turned of 9Again experts could not solve)
    - Randomly, projects will publish with images, smartshapes etc. all filled with red. Then magicly, if you try enough times, it publishes ok.
    - The software hangs (freezes) OFTEN. This could be while working in a project, when running a preview, anything. This has been an issue since my Captivate 5.5.
    - Background audio volume control is inconsistent
    - Fill and other formatting tools are PATHETIC when compared to Microsoft Office and even smaller software houses like Serif.
    - Captivate is VERY limited as to the format of files that it can use. Compare with Corel.
    - Buttons (and some other tools) do not behave consistently in publishing vs previewing. this EATS UP MY WORK TIME!! Again pathetic when compared to software such as Serif.
    - The package as a whole seems "unstable" (Hanging, inconsistent behaviour) Remainds me of stuff we used in the eighties.
    - Captivate is VERY resource intensive.
    - It is "slow" software. Takes ages to do previews etc. Compare with good o'll powerpoint,
    - Rediculously expensive for what it does.
    - The turorials provided by Adobe is rather weak. it always shows things like widgets in the simplest application imagineable. Then I have to spend HOURS AND DAYS trying to figure out all the pitfalls associated with tools in a slightly more advanced use.
    - I have worked on CAD, Webdesign, graphics, video editing, ERP, MRP, office (I.e, MS Office,Lotus, Multimate) and learning software. I do some coding work in visual basic. I teach software applications. Adobe Captivate is most difficult to get to know. It is riddled with pitfalls. I spend about 30% of my time to figure out the software.
In case you wonder, I use an i5 computer with four gigs of ram.
I process MASSIVE videos in Corel which NEVER HANGS.
And then there are many niggling little issues that I have learnt to work around!!

    Hi THYSG333,
Sorry for the inconveneince. I will try to respond to some of the them(added in-line). There are couple of issues, I need sample projects. You can upload them to workspaces.acrobat.com and send me a shared link.  You can also contact me at sankaram at adobe dot com for discussing the issues.
-Programme not listed in "uninstall list" - that is in Windows Control Panel
Sankaram: It seems to be an issue with cleaning up. Can you try with creative suite cleaner to remove Captivate 7 and install it again? Creative suite cleaner is available at http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
    - The Jigsaw widget just hangs when puzzle is not built in time
Sankaram: When Jigsaw puzzle is not built in time, we have seen movie pauses (NOT hang). Let us know if you observe the same.
    - When using Drop and Drag and or Jigsaw widget in project with multiple attempts the widgets "fall over" the moment you add a quiz somewhere in the project
Sankaram: Jigsaw widget : This is a bug in Jigsaw widget.
Drag and Drop : Are you using Captivate 7 in-built Drag and Drop or any widget?
    - The Notes widget does not work when you publish to WIndows exe. (Even Adobe experts on-line could not solve this - several hours with control of my PC)
Sankaram: This is a bug in Notes Widget.
    - For some reason in some projects the background audio keeps looping, even when turned of 9Again experts could not solve)
Sankaram: This is a bug in Captivate.
    - Randomly, projects will publish with images, smartshapes etc. all filled with red. Then magicly, if you try enough times, it publishes ok.
Sankaram: Can you try “Force Publish” option? Let us know if you still encountering the issue after this.
    - The software hangs (freezes) OFTEN. This could be while working in a project, when running a preview, anything. This has been an issue since my Captivate 5.5.
    - The package as a whole seems "unstable" (Hanging, inconsistent behaviour) Remainds me of stuff we used in the eighties.
Sankaram: Can you provide some set of steps or scenarios for us to investigate.
    - Background audio volume control is inconsistent
Sankaram: It would be great if you could send the sample project for us to investigate.
    - Buttons (and some other tools) do not behave consistently in publishing vs previewing. this EATS UP MY WORK TIME!! Again pathetic when compared to software such as Serif.
Sankaram: Could you please share the project?
    - Captivate is VERY limited as to the format of files that it can use. Compare with Corel.
Sankaram : May I know what all additional formats you are looking for and why?
    Thanks,
    Sankaram

  • HELP - Captivate Issue

We are currently using Captive 3 to create online demonstrations with audio.  After we record our audio (usually after a really good take) and play it back - our audio plays back really fast.  It almost sounds like the Chipmunks are singing.  The audio plays back super fast.
Any ideas why this could be happening?  Is there a way to fix this?  We have tried recording on several other computers and the same issue keeps occurring.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

    Hi there
Does this happen when you Preview or after you Publish?
If after you publish, does it happen on the editing/authoring PC or on a different PC?
Perhaps check your Flash Player version?

  • Having some Captivate issues...

I have having a couple issues that were not fixed with the
    1.01 update.
    1) After I publish a movie, Captivate will sometimes close,
without saving anything at all. The movie is fully published,
however the software basically crashes after it has been published.
(This doesn't happen everytime, but maybe once out of ever 10
    movies)
    2) When the software is started, the loading screen does not
always display, I sometimes have to minimize all windows, and then
click on the loading screen in order for Captivate to have its own
tab on the taskbar. The loading image will appear when I minimize
all windows, and when I click on the loading image, it will then
create the Macromedia Captivate tab that appears on the taskbar.
    3) Captivate cannot handle multiple movies open at the same
time. I noticed that when I publish with more than one Captivate
movie open, the software crashes. By crash, I mean the program
closes the entire movie without saving any changes at all.
    I'm running a fully updated XP w/ SP2. I've disabled all
startup processes that are not needed, as well as tried with Norton
turned off- it still didn't work.

    quote:
For the issue listed as #1, have you tried changing the
output location to a folder very near the root of the C drive? I've
seen issues reported where the path was longer than Captivate
likes, and this can cause issues.
    - I tried C:\Demos, and have had it continue to happen. I
normally do not put the finished product in that location, but I do
remember it failing twice when it was at C:\Demos
    quote:
I have several programs that behave the same way such as
Firefly, Oracle, and a few others in which I launch the app but it
does not display in the taskbar until the application gets past the
    splash screen.
    - That's different. I said I have to click on the main logo
in order for the Captivate taskbar icon to appear, I really hope
that wasn't the intention of the developers.
    quote:
As for issue listed as #3, I'm assuming you are referring to
having multiple instances of Captivate running simultaneously? I'm
assuming this as Captivate is a single project application. You can
only work on one project at a time. I also know that Captivate does
seem to be resource hungry. I'm not sure I've ever tried (nor had
the need) to open more than two different instances simultaneously.
So how many are you opening? Surely not 100!
    - Your assumption is correct. That's a shame that the
developers left out a notice that didn't allow you to open multiple
instances. Hopefully we'll either get a notice when we try it in
the future, or get support for multiple movies open at the same
    time, in future Captivate releases.
I've done about 3 before Captivate starts to act funny. It
has enough trouble with 2. I think I got up to 8 before Captivate
    crashed.
I'm really looking forward to the new version of Captivate,
is there an area to address feature requests/suggestions/bug fixes
    for the next release?

  • I have an issue with Captivate 5.5 SCORMS failing in Moodle 2.5.3 and now in 2.6, have upgraded to Captivate 8.0, any ideas?

I am new to Captivate (and Moodle) and have inherited a project that was built with Captivate 5.5, and originally deployed on Moodle 2.5.3.
The SCORMS started failing in Moodle 2.5.3 and so we migrated to Moodle 2.6, but they still start to load, then the spinning wheel of eternity takes over and they don't load.
From some other posts I have seen, it appears to be a Captivate issue? Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Zac, sorry to hear about your troubles, but that's why us other users are here to try to help in these instances.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this connection drop happens.

  • Widgets in Captivate 5

A Captivate 5 module that has any type of widget in the module will not scale with the browser window when viewed from Connect.
A  Captivate 5 module that does not contain a widget will scale with the  browser window when view from Connect while in a coarse or curriculum.
It appears that is a Captivate issue. I have the same thing happening  when I view the project from my web server. I just had a widget made for  me and the person who made it was able to explain why with happens.
"In  most widgets there are some lines of code added to restrict the “stage  scale mode” in Flash. This is used because if this is not used then  Captivate will not place the Widget Properties panel at the correct  location and therefore you wouldn’t be able to fill in the properties.  Apparently (but I don’t see why) this is also causing the Captivate SWF  to restrict the scale mode and therefore Connect Pro cannot scale your  Captivate SWF."
Anyone know how to fix this. It is causing all kinds of problems for me with Window sizing.

That is the way the widget is supose to look I know it does not look right.
The reason is that most widgets have this line of code inside to make the Widget user interface fit inside of the widget window when viewed inside of Captivate.
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
This however is passed along to the published Captivate swf thus preventing scaleing with the browser window.
    If this code is used
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_BORDER;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
You can no longer see what is in the Widget window within Captivate because the inferface content scales inside of the window parameters.
The Scale widget's only purpose it to Neutralize the No_SCALE that is in most widgets. So all you have to do is import it. Nothing needs to be changed.
Also it is worth noting that this widget has to be on the same slide as a normal widget to work and they have to be in equal numbers to neutralize.
    Ex.
Slide one has three normal widget and each contains a NO_SCALE line of code. To neutralize the three NO_SCALE's you will have to have three of Stage Scale widgets.
Also some widgets have more than one NO_SCALE lines within them like the Certificate widget. It has two. So you have to add two Stage scale on the slide to neutralize it.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • What does work right in Captivate?

I'm getting fatigued by all the issues I've discovered in Captivate and Adobe's total lack of support for these issues.
All they ever want you to do is upgrade for a price.
If anyone can shed some light on the following issues within the next 4 days, I'll be happy and continue my track, creating my courses in Captivate.
After this period, I'm reverting back to my pervious IDE.
My issues are ALL surrounding SCORM2004 publishing and compliance in Captivate eLearning suite 2 (and "No" I'm not updating, spending more money on this suite of disfunctional tools is not being considered).
    List of issues:
    1. Multi-SCO menu does not correctly display progress in each project.
    2. When publishing as SCORM, I am unable to use the #_fs.htm file - captivate is not able to use it.
    3. After upgrading to CP 5.0.2, Closed Captions have gone back to the broken state (displaying only in bottom left corner) after I corrected it in CP 5.0.
    4. When resizing a project smaller (using equal resize percentages and ensuring Captions and objects get resized) the project and captions resize, but images and image buttons only resize vertically (i.e. they get squeezed vertically but remain the same width).
    5. When displaying a project as full screen, you cannot use SCORM support.
    6. When using SCORM support, bookmarking does not function.
Scenario: (the first project of my 5 initial projects)
I publish a Multi SCO project consisting of 14 CP5 projects. Each project has buttons that, when clicked, "continue" to the next slide. The TOC reflects completion of each slide in every module.
At the end of each project, the final button jumps to the next project via "File or URL", pointing to the htm start page of that next project.
My projects all contain both slide and object audio, so I'm not going back to CP5.0 due to the loading issue CP5.0.2 corrects.
Using the Multi-SCO-Publisher-2, the LMS menu checks some but not all modules (even though all pages have been completed in each), as well, I may be in module 13 (example) and get bounced back to module 2 (which coincidently has no check beside it).
Question: Why would module 2 not get a check in the Multi SCO menu when I continue on every page and get a completion status on every page in the TOC.
Question: Why would it get all the way to module 13 until it realizes module 2 has no check in the Multi-SCO menu?
I have combed through ALL my files and consistently have the same functions throughout every slide and every last slide - i.e. module 1 through 13 all continue to next pages until last page where it jumps to next URL.
In the case of module 14, I finalize the course with an End button and it closes the course window to return to the LMS.
The user returns to have no completions in the project menu and no checkmarks in each page.
Items 1, 3, 5, and 6 above are essential SCORM functions that fail in Captivate 5. WHY???
Item 4 above is clearly a blatently obvious bug. Why was it not obvious to Adobe in testing?
Item 2 above, is clearly a bother, as we keep having to deal with the end user and the limited browser viewing area they have due to excessive browser tool-bar usage.
If Anyone can assist in resolving these Captivate issues I have, I will even pay for the service - It's just to bad Adobe can't figure them out before they move this overpriced elephant to market.
My final objective is to have a single TOC per course that opens in a new window with no toolbars (like the non-SCORM publish can do), but it must be SCORM2004 compliant AND have bookmarks working.

  • Captivate SCORM and WebCT

When I tried posting a SCORM zip file into WebCT 6.0 I
    received the following message.

I did not know if this was a WebCT or Captivate issue until I
downloaded a SCORM player called RELOAD and opened the file in that
program. I received the same error there, as is follows:

Hi, I am not a WebCT expert, but i have noticed, that in zip
file, if you have paths associated then some of the servers gives
    error while uploading.
So what i will suggest you to do is, publish the captivate
files in a folder, select all the files and create a zip out of
that. Open the zip, and make sure that the path column is either
empty or relative for SCORM_* files.
Not sure if it will help you, but you may give it a try.

  • Having Issues with Having Incomplete Tests on LMS.

I use moodle for my LMS website, and captivate for my SCORM module. I believe I have the point system correct through captivate as each text entry box has the same properties as of time, pause, jumping slides when correct, and included in quiz properties, however the test is never complete on the LMS the first attempt. Usually it takes 3 times to complete the test and get all points counted on the website, where I usually land on 20/30 or so the first time. I'm wondering if this is a captivate issue or a moodle issue, but I wish to know especially if it's a captivate issue. THX

Can you show us screenshots of your SCORM settings and Quiz Settings dialogs?

  • Captivate 4 Course is resuming in LMS, but not retaining slides viewed from previous session

We have published our Captivate 4 course as Complete/Incomplete using SCORM 1.2 to SumTotal 7.2 and are having a problem getting the course to complete after a resume.  We want the user to view 100% of the screens in order to complete the course.  If you exit the LMS at some point before the end the LMS bookmarks the place and will resume where you left off.  The problem is it does not retain the data saying the slides before the resume have been completed (no green checkmarks in the TOC) so when you get to the end of the course the LMS will not mark it completed unless you go back and view the slides before the resume (which were viewed in the previous session).
I am not sure if this is an LMS or a Captivate issue. Our LMS person is saying this is a Captivate issue because other departments in our company publish courses in Articulate and this feature works fine in the LMS for their projects.
Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated.  Our internal academy will not let us publish the course to our users unless we can resolve this issue.
    Thanks!
    Terry

Thank you so much for the reply.  I found on the Table of Contents settings that I did not have Self-paced learning checked and thought that would fix the issue when I republished and uploaded to SumTotal, but I am still having the same issue.
One thing I did notice is the Exit button on the Captivate skin playbar is not working so I have to use the SumTotal exit button to exit the course.  I was wondering if the status flags are not being retained on exit because we are not able to exit through the Captivate Playbar.  We are going to try disabling the SumTotal playbar to see if that could be the issue.
Has anyone had any similar issues with the Captivate playbar exit that could provide some insight?
    Thanks again.

  • Jump to next slide in Powerpoint when embedded Captivate SWF

    Hi all,
first of all, I am pretty new to the captivate forum, and searched a while without success, too many powerpoint to captivate issues but not the otherway around.
I have included a Captivated Version 5 compiled SWF into Powerpoint and made it Full Screen. Is there anyway to create a button in captivate5 to send a command (maybe through javascript/ fscommand etc.) to exit the captivate movie and go to next slide in Powerpoint?
As of now, all keys and mouseclicks are focussed on the swf and don't reach powerpoint.
    Any ideas?
    Best regards,
    Darius

  • Captivate 7 - HTML5 audio/slides not syncing

    Hi,
I am trying to publish out to HTML5 (Captivate 7 with the patch on Windows 7). I have audio on each slide and if I just let it run straight through, it's fine. However, if I page forward the audio is not sync'd with the slide anymore. It looks like it take a little longer for the slide to catch up but the audio starts right away.
Also, if I go back and forth (I know this isn't right but I know learners are going to), sometimes I get audio from two slides playing at once.
Is this just an HTML5/audio issue or is this a Captivate issue?
    Thanks,
    Joy

    Sreekanth,
I think I've found a workaround for this issue. I’m finding when audio is placed on each question slide in the pool, the audio on subsequent slides play. The audio on the question slides has to be different from audio used on non-question slides (but all the question slides can use the same audio). Also, the question slide audio can be a very short and silent piece of audio, so nothing is heard on the question slide itself.

  • Relaunching a completed course in Captivate 5.5 - endless "Loading"

I recently upgraded to 5.5.  I've created a course in 5.5 which included a quiz and a seperate final exam and placed it on our LMS.  All is working fine except that when a user successfully completes the requirement (course + final) and tries to re-open the course later they get stuck in this endless loop showing a loading animation.  The course never loads.  In another forum I found this issue first came up with Captivate 5, but was allegedly addressed in 5.5.  The suggested fix was to remove any quiz slides from the course and force a "republish all slides" .   I've done this.  I've also cleared my cache and tried using Firefox (instead of IE8.)  I now have several learners trying to revisit the course who are unable to acces the content. The LMS folks won't address this as it is a"known Captivate issue" and I agree with them as it is documented.  Question:  Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause and the fix? I am up a tree here - HELP. Thanks is advance.  FYI: swearing at it has not helped...yet.

I think I figured out a solution.  1. Elimated all quiz questions from within the presentation.  (I substiuted my own questions instead of using the Captivate templates.)  2. Changed th LMS customiziation settings within Captivate by clicking on "Never send resume data". 3. Forced a republish all slides when publisshing the project and zipping it.  4. In the LM course settings, when asked what to set  "reopen the project in the review mode" - I select NO.
It has been tested on our LMS and seems to work.  Not sure if all steps are necessary but these seem to work. Good enough for me.

  • Captivate 6 Quiz Slow and Freezing

    Hi,
I'm trying to finalise my project, and I'm running into nothing but problems. The biggest problem that I'm having right now is with the quiz freezing at the end of each project. It's always in a different place each time, and when it's not freezing, it's ridiculously slow (it took a user 5 minutes to answer 3 questions earlier today).
The original format had the quiz in a project divided up by unit (3 units in a project = 3 quizzes). I tried to create the advanced interactions that are necessary to make individual score slides, but I'm brand new to Captivate, and I didn't know what to do with the advanced actions once I made them (and the project kept freezing, so I gave up)! Exchanging my pedagogic ideal for one of convenience, I put the quizzes at the end of the entire project, with an intermediate score slide between each section, showing the user their cumulative total and offering them the chance to review the previous questions. However, I was still experiencing the freezing issue. I deleted the intermediate score slides and reinstated the regular quiz score slide, and now the quiz won't load at all! All the other slides in the project load just fine, so I know it's just the quiz (and it's the same for each of the projects I'm working on).
    So far, I have
Unchecked the box for "report score" - we don't need to know how well the user did; it's for their own information.
    Cleared the cache.
Copied and pasted the slides and started the quizzes from scratch. Twice.
This has to be either a Captivate issue, or a me issue. I really hope it's me.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    CCM

It is very difficult to post a screenshot of it because it is barely visible, they forgot to change the color of the Pausing symbol on the Slide. Look closely to the timeline of the Quiz slide. Right in the middle you should see a vertical double bar (like it appears for a button, where it is better visible) but it is black on dark blue (when question slide is selected, which makes it difficult to see. Place the cursor over that double bar (Pause) and it will change in a double arrow which allows you to drag it more to the right, near to the end of the slide. There is no other way like for buttons, because Quiz slides have no Timing accordion. That pausing is used twice for quiz slides: when the user submits, the playhead will not move, when he enters Y or clicks on the slide the playhead will be released and the actions defined in the Action accordion will be executed. Default actions are Continue, which means that the playhead will move on, and has to wander through all the frames after the pausing point, which takes 1,5secs (inactive portion). If you move the pausing near to the end and/on shorten the duration of the slide if possible (not when you need to listen to an audio clip) that waiting time will be shorter, or, as you found out if you change Continue to Go to Next Slide there will be no waiting time at all.
It is not a good idea to remove the Next button if you want to offer Review, because the user will need it then and you cannot put it back during Review. However you can drag the Next button to the same place as the Clear button, it will will be covered until Review.
