Captivate 6 PDF file trashed

In the past I have had no problem creating PDF versions of my Captivate 6 modules. However, I found today that all the PDF files I recently created don't play in my PDF Reader. Older Captivate 6 PDFs play, but not the new ones. The Adobe site says the PDF Reader no longer comes with the Flash Player components and that I have to download the Flash Player (v12.0.0.44) separately. Even after I did that, I still get the same trashed screen (see below).
Has anybody else run into this problem? I am using Windows 7 Enterprise, Adobe Captivate 6.0.1.240, Reader XI version 11.0.06. This problem appears to occur whether I am trying to view the PDF in the stand alone Reader or in the Reader Plug-in in IE 9.

The suggestion to move items from documetns to desktop and then moving to trash is the one that worked.
I have now one other question and that is that during my strugle with the original problem I called with Apple helpline and there they suggested to move the application "Preview" to trash and then the issue would be solved. I did so but clearly the issue was not solved.
Bottom line is that with your solution I got rid of the PDF files, but I still need to reinstall the Preview application. Do you have suggestions how to do that??

Quit your browser and any other application you used to view the file, then try again.

Captivate published Swf to open an external PDF file

Hi all,
I need help to open an external PDF file from the swf file.
I used this previously. But realised that I can only open the pdf file from the published html file but not the swf file.

Lilybiri is correct that you should be able to use the Open URL or File action.
But I also just tested your JS code on my own PC here in Captivate (triggered by a button set to Execute Javascript) and it worked fine.
If you are testing this locally on your PC hard drive, have you made sure that the publish folder location is set up as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings? It might not be working for that reason.
You can also try uploading your SWF and PDF file to a web server and testing from there. Flash Global Security doesn't tend to bother content from a web server.

Links to PDF files with relative paths from a Captivate 4 project

I'm creating a presentation in Captivate 4 (I'm making an exe file) with some links to PDF files; the links are buttons with the 'open URL or file' set. The presentation will be distributed in CDs and obviously the links will not work for they point to an absolute path in my PC. Is there another way to display external files? thanks

"file:\file folder\filename" is not a relative path. It's still an absolute path because you're specifying the path all the way from the root drive, whether you used a drive letter or not.
A relative path shows where to find the other file in relation to the file that is calling it.
Relative paths look like this:
myDoc.doc (if the file is in the same directory as the file calling it)
folderName/myDoc.doc (if the file is inside a folder in the same directory as the file calling it)
../myDoc.doc (if the file is located in the parent directory above the file that is calling it)
../../myDoc.doc (if the file is located two levels above the file that is calling it)
etc

Adobe Reader 11.0.1 cannot read Captivate CS5 generated PDF files

I have a some training programs made with Captivate version CS-5 generated as PDF files. When I try to open them in the new reader, I see only one page (irrespective of the number of pages in the original file) with some garbled data such as "[email protected]". Is there a way to overcome this problem. I am using Windows 7.

Thanks for the link, but installing the flash player and the newer version of the Reader [11.0.02] doesn't help. So I had to reinstall the X version to make things work. I want to make a bug report but the form isn't working either!

Captivate 4: linked pdf file opens when published but closes project

I have linked a couple of pdf files (Live Cycle) to an Adobe Cap 4 project. When I published the Captivate file the pdf file opens and works well but once the user closes the pdf file to contine to the next slide the project closes. Does anyone know how I can correct this? (it works fine in preview but not when published) Thanks!

How exactly are you opening the PDF? If you just linked to it without choosing the "New Window" option it will replace the Captivate project in the browser window.
Perhaps you should examine the configuration of whatever is triggering the opening of the PDF. You should also review the information provided at the link below.

Is there a way to embed PDF files within Captivate 5?
I'm trying to avoid pop-ups.
I know there's a widget out there, but it's for Captivate 3.
I couldn't get it to work.

Under the Help menu, Adobe Captivate Help (F1), the help file does not open, and there is no error message. Does anyone know of another way to access the help file?

Help file is totally based on Adobe Air.
So make sure that Adobe Air is installed in your computer.
Assuming that you are running Captivate 5 on windows platform, you can find the Adobe Air folder in
C:\Program Files\Common Files
If you dont find any, you can download Adobe AIR from www.adobe.com

Linking to a pdf-File in Captivate 5.5

I hope you can help me with th following question, thanks! I've seen similar problems like mine on the forums, but it's not exactly the same.
The screenshots are in german, but I think you get the idea.
When linking to the file of the button I use the following options (used "New Window"):
After publishing (.swf-File) I copy the folder "PDF" containing the file "Hardcopy.pdf" into the published folder. When I click the button in the WBT the pdf file opens perfectly.
But now I want to upload the WBT to our LMS and therefore I need to zip the file. In the zipped mode the pdf file doesn't open when clicking the button.
Any solutions? Thank you for your help!

If you're talking about a zipped SCORM package, did you test opening the PDF on your LMS after uploading the SCORM and setting up the course? What normally happens is that the LMS unzips the SCORM package to a location on the web server when you set up the course. If your PDF was inside the zip file, and the relative path from the calling SWF to the PDF was not changed, then it should still work.
One suggestion I would make is to always use lower case for all file and folder names. I notice you have a combination of upper and lower case filenames. This is not good practice when uploading content to web servers as some servers are case sensitive and others are not. I've seen instances where broken links were simply due to the way the server interpreted mixed case filenames. If you only use lower case, you don't usually suffer this issue.

I want to use preview to view pdf files without trashing the adobe plug-ins?

Some of the government web sites that I need to visit regularly require me to use firefox and adobe for opening and viewing files. I would like to still be able to use Safari and Preview for opening, viewing and printing files from other web sites. Before the latest adobe update this was no problem, but now Adobe seems to have taken control over the viewing and printing settings so that even though I try printing from a Safari viewer window I get an Adobe message that this is not supported. I tried to search for an answer as I suppose I am not the only one having this problem after the most recent Adobe update. Thanks for your great help everyone. /Christian

Downloadable PDF Files at Captivate 6

HI to everyone!
I'm triying to include a PDF file into a single slide, but i don't know how.
The idea is to be able to download this file to the student's computer clicking on a icon or something similar, is this possible?.
I'm looking for a widget, but i don't find the correct one.

Add a (shape) button, and choose the action 'Open URL or File'. Be sure to have the pdf in the same folder, a relative path and to upload all files in the folder so that hierarchy is maintained.

How to view PDF files in Safari 5.1?

Every time I try to view a PDF file in Safari 5.1.1 (double clicking or using the contextual menu)i, it downloads the file instead. Is there a fix for this?
Adobe tells me that their plugin will not work with Safari 5.1 (with Lion or Snow Leopard) and suggests that I revert to Safari 5.0/Leopard.

Move the PDF Browser Plug-In to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. Try viewing a PDF in Safari.

Cannot remove pdf file from desktop

Hi,
I have been offered update on Adobe Reader appx 12 times now and it has been accepted and closed other programmes to install. It 9.5.1 version.
Now I have two pdf files on my desk top 28bea10-8739248572913388.pdf and a similar one which cannot be trashed or removed from the desk top.
A sign comes up cannot be deletd therefore cannot be removed from the desk top.

How To Edit a .pdf file - Please Help!

When I Googled the above question, I was told to download the Adobe Acrobat XI.
I tried downloading the trial version. I was then told to download the Creative Cloud to be able to download Acrobat XI.
I downloaded Creative Cloud, then I was taken to the Adobe Applications Manager Page which show a bunch of apps to download.
I don't know which app I will need for the editing. I was looking for Acrobat XI, but it's not showing anywhere.
I tried downloading Photoshop. This took more than 2 hours. After the download was complete, I tried launching it, but nothing happened.
I went back & double-checked the instructions, & I'm directed & got stumped at the Applications Manager page once more.
I find this very frustrating. I wish it were not this complicated.
I just want to edit a .pdf file, and nothing else. I'm not sure if I want to go through all these maze, or just use FIVVER, pay $5.00 & AVOID all these hassles.@nikoledeon.
