Captivate 6 playbar lock

Hi
I have a project that I would like the next/forward button inactive until the slide has finished. There is a widget out there that hides the next button until slide has finished, this is exactly what I need except that it does not work with Captivate 6. Can anyone help me with how to make this happen or even direct me to a widget that will make this possible?
Thanks

Hi,
You'll never be sure that the user will not sleep before the slide, but that is just my cynical personality...
Either you wait for the widget, or you create your own navigation buttons instead of using a playbar, or if you can cope with having only a custom Next button besides the playbar, you can follow these steps:
Edit the playbar settings and uncheck the 'Forward' option so that the Next button disappears from the playbar; beware the user can still scrub the progress bar if he wants to 'cheat', so you'd better disable that one as well.
Go to the first slide, open the Shapes option in the left toolbar (on top), choose the Forward button in the Button category; this shape is already formatted as a button, check the propoerties panel, Action accordion, BUT you have to check other settings in the Properties panel; you can change colors as you want, even switch to another shape (right-click menu).
Check the Options accordion: you can add captions if you want, and eventually show the Hand cursor, disable the Click sound to your wishes
Most immportant to check is the TIMING accordion: now I want to know if all your slides have  different durations? If the durations are similar, check at which time the button should appear (Appear After:) and type that one, then check the Pause After option and put it at a short time (0,2sec);
For Display For: choose Rest of project, so that the button will show up on every slide, and be sure to tick 'Place Object on Top' so that it will never be covered up by anything.
You can control this Next button, hide it on Entering the last slide is a possibility (On Enter action for the slide).
You cannot use a Next button on a master slide, because that one cannot be timed and you want it to appear as late as possible on the slide.
If slide durations are very different, the 'Display for rest of project will not work', you'd have to copy the button to each slide and change the timing.

  • Forward button on Captivate playbar

    Is there a way to highlight the Forward button in the Captivate playbar when the end of a slide is reached? I've noticed that other tools seem to have this capability and I would like to do something similar with my Captivate projects.

    Thanks for the suggestions to use navigation buttons (I understood that it was implied to turn off the playbar). However, our team recently decided to stop using navigation buttons on the slides and to use the playbar because we liked the look and feel much more. The other tools cannot do what Captivate can, so it is not feasible to use them to accomplish this. We just wanted a way to let the user know (other than the fact that the narration stopped) that they can or should progress to the next slide. I don't want the navigation to be hidden or disabled before the end of the slide because there may be instances (like in a course review), where they need to move forward quickly. It's probably only a few seconds before they realize they should move on, but a new user passed on that feedback, so we wanted to see if there was a way to address it.

  • No Audio in internet explorer, captivate playbar close button not working

    I did a simulation video in adobe captivate 5.5, on uploading it to Netdimension s LMS, the course plays audio via firefox but wont play audio from Internet explorer.
    Also Firefox autoresumes from where the user last stops but won't in Internet explorer. Also the exit button in my captivate playbar doesnt work neither in my internet explorer browser nor firefox.
    I also noticed that the LMS didnt mark the course completed after taking all the slides.
    Please help!

    Hi there
    My guess is that you are opening those from version 3 in a different manner than you are the version 4 sims. As I understand it (and as explained in the link) the ability to close a window is dependent on the browser as well as the manner in which the window was opened to begin with.
    I suggest you begin by scrutinizing what is different about the version 3 files that you are seeing. Where are you running them from? How are you displaying them?

  • Captivate playbar double-skipping slides

    I am having issues with the default captivate playbar double-skipping slides when moving forwards or backwards in the playbar in a SCORM odule converted from pptx.
    I have tried with different playbars in skins and having the same problem.
    Please help!

    Hi there
    That's typical behavior for the playbar. It traverses from slide to slide.
    What you could do is to forego the Captivate supplied playbar and use your own buttons that you program as you want. You simply insert them on each slide and configure as desired.

  • I need to change the height of a Captivate playbar using Flash Pro

    I need to change the height of a playbar in Adobe Captivate.  I have Flash Pro. I am very new to Flash Pro. I read.. "To change the height of the playbar, adjust the height of pbcBk_mc movie clip inside cpPlaybar symbol in Library".  The problem is I CAN'T FIND pbcBk_mc anywhere.  I see the cpPlaybar attrbute.  When I click on it and look at the timeline I am not seeing an attribute for pbcBk_mc or height.  Where in the world is it??

    You start with a source / authoring file for the "static" content (e.g., Name, Last:). Say this is an MS Word file.
    You master the "static" content..
    You keep this authoring file and have a backup of this file.
    You output a PDF and use Acrobat to build and fine tune the "form" (form = the form fields, not the "static" content).
    The authoring file  and output PDF (with form fields) gives you "rev 00".
    Now, you must change something in the "static" content.
    Open the authoring file and save as to a new version (e.g., "wordfile_v00"  becomes "wordfile_v01).
    Output this to "pdffile_v01".
    Use Acrobat to open the PDF form file "pdffile_v00". Save As to a new file name ("pdffile_v00update").
    Using Acrobat XI Pro the click-path Tools - Pages - Replace lets you replace a page or pages of "pdffile_v00update" with a page or pages from "pdffile_v01".
    This replaces the "static" PDF page content and does not affect the form fields on the page.
    (you may have to adjust position of form fields)
    Save "pdffile_v00update" to "pdffile_v01" to reflect the revised status of the PDF form file.
    Be well...

  • Captivate Playbar or my own (basic non urgent question)

    Hi
    If anyone has time to answer this question I would be grateful.
    What are the advantages or disadvantages of using Captivate (Cap5) own playbar instead of me using my own forward, back buttons etc.
    What do you professionals do?

    Depends on the need...
    Sometimes we just pick a default/standard playback bar and include it.
    Sometimes we lightly modify an existing one.
    On occasion, we have to make our own custom one (but one still based on a default bar...thankfully Adobe provides the source FLAs for them).
    We almost never bypass the playback bar altogether and put our own standard navigation on the slides.
    For one, there's really no advantage to that over the overall functionality CP's playback bar offers.
    Also, coding those buttons can be difficult.
    Plus you have to put the buttons on every slide. Or you can try 'show for rest of project' but that doesn't seem to work well (fairly, we've not tried that since CP 2 or 3). I don't think you can put nav buttons on the Master Slide in CP5 and above...?
    We do, of course, create custom buttons on individual slides as needed - various interactions and such - but for overall navigation, far easier to either use a standard playback bar ("skin"), or modify one through the skin editor, or create your own custom one entirely if you know Flash well enough.

  • Mute Bug in Captivate Playbar Widget Templates

    I believe that I have found a bug that is persistent throughout all of the Captivate 5 playbar widgets (i.e MountainBluePlayBar.swf, PlayBar.swf, etc..).
    Description:
    When using any custom playbar widget in Captivate, the "mute" icon changes erratically on slides regardless of whether or not the sound is muted when moving forward or backwards through the course.
    Steps to recreate:
    I wanted to create a custom playbar for my organization using flash AS3.  I began by modifying the source of an existing playbar in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5\Gallery\Widgets\Source.  The only changes that I made to the widget were cosmetic graphical changes.  I published my playbar widget and placed it on the master slide so it would be visible on all slides.  While previewing the course, if I click the 'mute' button, the audio mutes and unmutes as expected.  However, if I move forward or backward through the slides, the mute icon toggles erratically.  I have found this to be true both with my own custom widget, and the examples that shipped with Captivate.
    Workaround:
    I have found a workaround that displays the correct mute icon status. However, it requires testing the status of the Captivate's cpCmndMute variable on each frame(onEnterFrame), so it's not the most elegant solution.  I added the following lines in red to the pbEnterFrame function on the playbarMc movie clip.
    function pbEnterFrame(evt:Event){
        if(varHand != null){
            var per = Math.ceil(varHand.rdinfoCurrentFrame / varHand.rdinfoFrameCount * 100);
            var wid = pBarMc.bound.width * per / 100
            pBarMc.pb.width = wid;
            if(!isDraOn){
                pBarMc.thumb_mc.x=pBarMc.pb.x+pBarMc.pb.width
            //Start dirty, dirty hack - Chack each frame to see if parent movie is muted, hide or show mute clips
                 //depending on the outcome.
            if(varHand.cpCmndMute == 0){
                pbcAudioOff_mc.visible = true;
                pbcAudioOn_mc.visible = false;
            }else{
                pbcAudioOff_mc.visible = false;
                pbcAudioOn_mc.visible = true;
            //End Hack
    Please let me know if I'm missing something, or if this is fact a bug.  I will just use my workaround for now.

    Hi swmangold,
    We are able to reproduce the aforesaid issue.

  • Controling Html 5 content with captivate playbar

    I have created a captivate module with html 5 animation in a slide when I pause the captivate module the animation continues and the audio and animation become out of sync

    If you've created the Flash animation you could put an enterFrame listener to see if CP is paused or not and pause or play the animation. Make sure your animation is set to 30fps to match Captivate:
    var cpVars = Object(parent.parent).getMovieProps().variablesHandle;
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, slideFrameHandler);
    function slideFrameHandler(e:Event):void
    if (cpVars.rdcmndPause == 1)
      stop();
    else
      play();

  • Lock the progress bar in the playbar (Captivate 8)

    I'm looking for a way to lock the progress bar in the playbar in Captivate 8. This has come up a few times in regards to older versions of Captivate, but I haven't seen anything for 7 or 8 yet.
    I've tried this: Captivate 6 Help me Lock the Progress Bar in the Playbar, which relates to ver 6, but seemed to kinda do what I'm looking for, but not exactly.
    However, the Playbar Lock Widget seems to do exactly what I'm looking for (Flash-Factor   » Playbar Lock Widget (Cp5, Cp5.5)) but is for 5 and 5.5 only. According to this threadCaptivate 6 playbar lock, the widget doesn't work on 6, so I assume it doesn't work on 7 or 8, either. I've emailed the developer (Whyves) the other day, but considering the last activity on that site was a couple of years ago, I'm not really expecting a response.
    Does anyone know if there is an easy-ish way to do this or if there is an updated version of this widget available?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    Lilybiri,
    Thank you very much for your response. I realize it was very unlikely that particular widget would be updated, but was hoping someone has since been able to make something like that work in Captivate 8 (or even Cp7).
    I am actually working on a project that must be completed in a linear fashion the first time through. It consists of three parts, with each part consisting of a short video presentation followed by a couple of knowledge check/quiz questions. Learners must correctly answer the questions before they can proceed to the next part, and should be able to review the video they just watched (or any previous video) at any time, but they must not be able to skip ahead to the next video until they've correctly answered the KC questions for each part, or to skip the video the first time through.
    Enabling remediation helps in that it allows learners to re-watch the video before and even during the knowledge checks without getting 'stuck' on a question they've answered correctly already. However, it seems that forcing a linear flow while still giving learners an idea of their progress through the course via a progress bar without allowing them to use it to skip ahead has proven very difficult to do.
    The widget seemed to perfectly fit the bill in that it would disable 'scrubbing' with the progress bar until learners completed the activity. Then, once they've completed it, they could now use the progress bar to review the material again if they wished.
    Oh, well... we'll keep digging and hoping that maybe someone out there with more knowledge and skill in this than us figures out a way to make it work.
    Thanks again!
    -Marc

  • Lock the progress bar in the Adobe Captivate 5.5 playbar.

    I recently read some interesting postings from cpguru website. One of them is how to lock the progress bar.
    (http://www.cpguru.com/tutorial-lock-the-progress-bar-in-the-adobe-captivate-playbar/)
    It says that we can lock the progess bar with simple three lines of AS2 code.
    this.stop();
    delete _root.cpPbcBar_mc.pbcBar_mc.pbcSlider_mc.onMouseDown;
    delete _root._level0.cpPbcBar_mc.pbcBar_mc.pbcSlider_mc.onMouseDown;
    I would like to use this code, but my captivate version is 5.5, which means
    I do need to have AS3 code. Is there anyone who already figure out how to do it with AS3?
    If so, could you give me some guidance.
    Sami

    Hi Sami,
    I am not sure if you would like to hide it or lock it.
    I can recommend you to use the a system defined variable and set it to hide the play bar on ceratin slides so it would not appear on those slide.
    Thanks!

  • Playbar blinks on iPhone in Captivate 8 responsive project

    In Captivate 8, when I publish a responsive project, the Captivate playbar keeps blinking when I view the published project on an iPhone. Does anyone know how to make the playbar stop blinking?
    I notice in the Gestures section that it says to slide up or down to view/hide the playbar. However, that doesn't work for me. When I do that, my presentation just gets locked into a zoomed-in view and there is apparently no way to get out of it except to close the presentation and start over.
    Does anyone have any advice about what I'm doing wrong with the playbar or with gestures?

    Turning off gestures helped ... mostly. What I mean by mostly is that it still blinks on my quiz slide when I have Hide Playbar in Quiz unchecked in the Skin Editor. However, if I check the Hide Playbar in Quiz option, the playbar blinks throughout the rest of the presentation, just not on the quiz slides.
    Here are the stats you asked for:
    Model Number: iPhone 5C (Model ME555LL/A)
    iOS Version: iOS 7.1 (11D167)
    Playbar: I'm using the cpPlaybarMobile with these options:
    When I published a version with Hide Playbar in Quiz checked, then tested the quiz page on the iPhone, the playbar was gone as expected, but the action of selecting multiple choice options was exceedingly sluggish, then Safari crashed.
    As far as I'm concerned, this is a bug that prevents me from using any Captivate playbar if the destination device is an iPhone, because it produces an unfavorable result no matter which combination of options that I choose.

  • Imported Captivate video playbar doesn't display close captioning icon

    I've imported a captivate 6 demo into robohelp 10 and everything works perfectly, except that the closed captioning (CC) icon does not display on the Captivate playbar. It shows up just fine in Captivate, but not in Robohelp.
    I've tried externalizing the skin to import into Robohelp and I still get the same result. The CC icon doesn't show up in the playbar. I have to have closed captioning in my work environment for my Captivate videos. Can anyone help?

    Hi there
    Screen captures might prove useful, but if you are to provide them, you will need to use the camera icon and upload them here.
    When you are linking to the Captivate, how are you doing it? Are you pointing to the SWF or are you using HTML 5 output from Captivate?

  • Can't "unhide" playbar in Captivate 4

    I'm using Captivate 4 with imported PowerPoints. I want to link from one slide to a "hidden" resource slide that has supplemental material, and then return directly to the previous slide. "Show and return." Easy in PowerPoint. Apparently not so easy in Captivate.
    As part of this effort, I want to hide the Captivate playbar when opening the resource slide, and get the playbar back when I return to the previous slide (via a custom "return" button). I can hide the playbar with On Slide Enter: Assign > CpCmndShowPlaybar > With > 0. Fine. But when I return to the previous slide, the playbar remains hidden.
    OK, makes sense, I need to turn it back on. I then add On Slide Exit: Assign > CpCmndShowPlaybar > With > 1 to the resource slide. But that doesn't bring the playbar back. I also add it to the previous slide. Doesn't bring the playbar back.
    How do I get that playbar back?
    Side issue: So I figure, maybe I have to do a On Slide Exit: Multiple Actions, and include both the "Assign with 1" with the "Return to previous slide" action. And get this -- I cannot ADD the Assign action to a multiple action. Or rather, I can add it, but it won't stay after I click OK. I re-open the Multiple Actions dialog, and the Assign action has disappeared from the list regardless of whether it was one of many, or the only action entered. Bug or feature?
    Any insights appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello,
    I was a bit puzzled because you told that on exit you cannot change the value of the system variable cpCmndShowPlaybar and I tried it out with Multiple actions (that are not always to be trusted to my experience). And I could add the assign statement? And it even worked: I have 3 slides, on exit of the first I hide the playbar and jump to slide 3, on exit of slide 3 I show the playbar and jump to slide 1. Only difference is that I tried it with simple slides, not with PPT-imported slides. Seems strange, sorry this doesn't help you at all.
