Captivate 7 - installing via AAME really necessary?

I purchased a volume license version of Captivate 7 through my employer, and have purchased CS6 through the same route in the past. I do most of my CS6 work at home (time-consuming...) and use the copy at work to coordinate progress with colleagues or export files to web or print. Installation was no problem.
With Captivate 7, I get a 100-page guide to the use of AAME for the morally worthy, and no explanation of how that relates to the actual downloading, installation, and use of Captivate 7. Am I supposed to seek out a pythoness whose inner light encompasses the location of Adobe downloadables, or are we unwashed actually allowed direct access to the products we pay for?
Please don't tell me to ask my IT admin...they only deal with networks and do not deal with the arming or deployment of software applications.

It is actually a serious question...I ordered Captivate 7, received the serial number for a volume license. That leads me to AAME, which opens a Media & Package Identification window. This instructs me to "locate the setup files for products to be packaged" i,e, Product Installation Folder and give the "Package Name".
"Products to be packaged"??? What does this have to do with downloading and installing Captivate 7? And why, in among all the nonsense about updates in the AAME documentation, is there nothing about what AAME actually is or does? Nothing in the Captivate 7 manual about installation either.
I've tried to find out more about AAME and how it relates to volume license downloads, but wherever Adobe has the information, I can't find it. I don't mind spending my summer vacation learning to use Captivate 7, but I really object to wasting my summer vacation finding out how to install useless utilities in order to download Captivate 7. And here I thought "customer service" was service FOR the customer, not BY the customer...

    Hi everyone!
I have problems with my 4th generation IPod Touch for a while.
First, it was no longer recognized by Windows or by ITunes and yet il worked fine forabout 2 week.... it is beyond comprehension!!   Ican no longer use ITunes... not pratical!!   I'm actively looking for solutions.
I finally solved the problem of recognition with Windows, with the help of Apple.  Now, I still have the problem of recognition with which ITunes still does not work.  When I open ITunes, a warning message telling me to restore my IPod.
My fear is losing my music but also some conversations, my bookmarks, my pictures and  my apps and data entered in them.  I would lose nothing, find my IPod as it's now after the restoration.
Is it possible to not lose its data during a restore??  If so, how??  Is ICloud does the work??
Is it really necessary to restore my IPod??  Do you think this would solve my problem really??
    Could you please help me???

Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • Is 'Leopard' really necessary?

    Hi again..
I've been reading different threads on this topic (some of which were negative on various Leopard features) and was just wondering whether it was really necessary to install Leopard?
We only recently bought our Mac and I was just concerned that I might end up with unnecessary problems....
What are the benefits of (or purpose in) installing this software/upgrade?
Any information on this would be appreciated, thanks!

After one week using Leopard, I was ready to say it was far more trouble than it was worth. Against my better judgement, I decided to do the default "Upgrade" install, but not before I made a clone of my Tiger startup disk, & it would have been a nightmare without that. The install seemed to go fine but my iMac would not restart completely -- no menu bar, no Finder, & a stuck Dock. I tried a lot of things but ultimately had to erase the drive from Disk Utility on the Leopard DVD -- Erase & Install would not even work from within the installer, repeatedly giving me a message about not being able to unmount the target volume. But after around 12 hours total effort, I successfully installed it 'from scratch' on the newly reformatted drive & used Setup Assistant to migrate everything from the clone.
I have no idea why I had these problems: I had used Tiger's latest version of Disk Utility prior to the first attempt to verify that the Tiger install had correct permissions & that the file system was OK. I had no third party hacks installed (& I'm obsessed enough about the evils of such things to know how to find them, even when stuck into the nooks & crannies of the OS). "Clean" is an overused term, but my Tiger OS was as pristine as I know how to make it, drawing on almost two years of active participation in these forums & everything all its gurus taught me.
Anyway, even after getting it installed successfully, & doing everything suggested here & elsewhere to make sure it was in good health, I had a variety of small & not-quite-so small problems. The 10.5.1 update helped some, as did Apple's k-base articles about repairing oddities introduced by upgrading from Tiger & such, but it still was disappointingly unstable compared to 10.4.10. Worse, I learned that several of my mainstay apps weren't Leopard-compatible.
But I stayed with it, partially because I could always reboot into Tiger with my clone when I needed to, partially because I'm just stubborn enough not to want to admit defeat, but mostly because the new feature set really does have a lot to offer that Tiger does not. The biggies like Time Machine are great but I find all the little refinements are really what I like most. For example, I didn't think something as simple as being able to display the path in the bottom of all Finder windows (like in Spotlight searches) would be such a boon, but it is. Spotlight is still far from perfect but Boolean searches make it much more powerful.
Long story short(er), I find that when I need to boot back into Tiger, I really miss all the little things it won't do that Leopard will. There are still some rough edges & things that need to be rethought, & it still isn't as stable as I would like but overall, as the two months of use mark approaches, I do not regret buying it & making it my mainstay OS version.
Necessary? No. Worth it? It is for me.

  • Is it really Necessary?

Is it really necessary to download your Blackberry OS from a specified carrier like this one? :https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=4558DBB6F6F8BB2E16D03B85BDE76E2C

Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following specific instructions.
Some users might worry they will void their device warranty by loading an OS from another carrier. There is really nothing to worry about. Please read more information on that here: http://www.port3101.org/power-users/296-blackberry-os-upgrade-including-betas-myths-dispelled.html

  • LR 4.1 installed through AAM, How do I upgrade to 4.2?

This may seem like a stupid question, but I want to reduce the possibility of screwing up my current Creative Cloud installs.
    Background
I have a Creative Cloud membership w/ several applications installed through AAM.  All show as "installed" as I'd expect and seem to function just fine.
    AAM Application Updating
Some applications automatically install updates through the AAM -- that is, they update automatically.  For example just today PS CS6 and Premier Pro CS6 updated via the AAM update process, first notifying me via the AAM icon that there was an update, then allowing me to choose to go ahead with it -- all through AAM.
BUT, Lightroom doesn't seem to do this.  I was notified of an update to Lightroom (4.2) when I opened the application.
The notification indicated I should download and install it.
    My Questions
Should I go ahead and uninstall LR4.1, then reinstall LR from AAM?  (this assumes AAM is now updated to install LR4.2 vs. LR4.1)
    -- Or --
Should I run the LR4.2 download over my existing AAM installed LR4.1?   (seems like this isn't usually a good idea)
    -- Or --
Should I uninstall LR4.1, then install LR4.2 via the downloaded updater?  (seems this might cause trouble w/ AAM showing that LR is not "installed")
I've got a recently setup machine and have everything working as desired, so I'd prefer not to have to revert or clean up something caused by my not taking the appropriate updating path.  I've done several searches both via Google and here and found nothing noting the difference between LR and other AAM installed apps for updates -- so I'm left puzzling what I should be doing for this upgrade to LR4.2...
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -Bonnie

Some additional info relating to my 4.1 to 4.2 upgrade and LR CC (Creative Cloud) installs as a whole is here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4782301#4782301
So far I'm hoping that I'll be able to remove the 4.1 version without negative impact on 4.2 which is now installed in a non-default directory.
The overall upgrade process does not mirror that for other CC apps.  Instead it follows its own path.
Check the link above for more info.

  • Is an admin server (WebLogicAdmin) really necessary for production PIA?

    Greetings:
We're on PT 8.50 and WebLogic 10.3 on Windows 2008 R2. The PT install instructions say the Multi Server Domain config option is intended for production environments but I'm not sure that's necessary in all cases. For instance, if PSOL and PSEMHUB are hosted on another server configured Multi Server Domain why would you need to configure another Multi Server Domain just for PIA? Is there any benefit to that? It seems to me there would be less overhead running a Single Server Domain for PIA but I am not an expert. Any input, pros/cons, experience is appreciated. We are a small to medium sized FSCM 9.0 installation - no WebLogic clusters or anything.
    Thanks!
    John

It's not really necessary to have a multi weblogic domain setup if you're not going to assign multiple IP addresses to the server running Weblogic. The multi domain setup will only use its full potential when you go for a failover and load balancing setup. This way you assign a different IP to each of the PIA instances. A load balancer will then balance the load between the PIA instances. The reason why Oracle recommends having a multi server domain is for when you have the PeopleBooks running on the same server. This is because the PeopleBooks might affect your PeopleSoft production environment when it's having problems. With a single server domain only one webserver will be handling the load for both the PeopleBooks and PeopleSoft. If there's a servlet failing on the PeopleBooks for some reason then it will cause problems.
If the PeopleBooks are running on a seperate server you're theoretically already running a multi server setup. I don't see a reason why you can't use the single server domain.

  • I can't install updates to apps installed via a CD

My iMovie and iPhoto was originally installed via a CD, and for the last few months I keep getting requests to install updated versions. But the installation never works because the originals didn't come from the App Store, yet there's no way to refuse these updates. It's been really tiresome to keep getting asked to update these apps. Do I have to uninstall the apps from my Mac to get these update requests to stop?

Depends upon the versions your have. You can upgrade from immediately prior versions, otherwise, you must purchase the upgrades. Plus in order to be eligible for a free upgrade, if any, you must have installed Mavericks.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

  • What is MacKeeper - is it REALLY NECESSARY

Is MacKeeper REALLY necessary - as I am not having a problem with slowness.  Princepony

Apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary OR needed. They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac.
These types of apps potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do. Plus, the software companies that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
That is because of poorly written code. The companies that write these apps are only interested in one goal...to scam/rob you of your hard earned cash for a piece of software that will be more harmful to your Mac than good for it!
It is best to never, EVER download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and important data is too great a risk!
Stay well clear of any of these "cleaning" style apps!

  • Acrobat XI Pro Install via CCP Packager for Enterprise unuseable - tips for the unitiated

Well, after at least six weeks of trying to script and package Acrobat XI via the CCP packager for enterprise (Windows 7 X64) I have learnt many home truths which I thought I would share with the unitiated. This process, from the point of view of an IT admin who has to mass deploy this application to 680 PC's as part of an updated SOE has been the most painful scripting process I have ever found of any package (we successfully deploy Office, and Autodesk apps!). Not only that, but our entire State technical colleges have all purchased the same version. This will be affecting IT staff across a huge area, perhaps worldwide. Below are some some facts relating to this that I will share so others do not have to trawl the minefiled of dead-ends and confusion that is Adobe forums/official documentation. Apologies for not finding direct links to all of the below just yet but I've run out of time as we now have MANUALLY install Acrobat XI on all of these machines. When I get time I will post some of the links:
    Facts:
Acrobat XI and Lightroom are NOT "CC" packages. Therefore they rely on a spearate serial numbers to install standalone without another major Adobe product (eg Photoshop) to be installed and then run first. Otherwise they will run in trial mode. If your organistaion is wanting to install these products I highly recommend seeing if Adobe can provide you with these.
Without the use of serial number for Acrobat XI this almost renders the Customisation Wizard effectively useless, none of the silent install switch will work with "Offline Exception"
Yes, one Adobe employee notes that you must install a major package before Acrobat but as the aoplogies for not fixing this were posted last August, we are still in the quandry of not having any useable fix except for the ridiculous "Exceptions" file and Exceptions installer.
If you run the Build and/or execeptions msi's it installs Acrobat twice, gold Adobe, gold.
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6039529#6039529 - look at this for a working script for Photoshop etc, it's great. Thanks to http://forums.adobe.com/people/PetriRiihikallio for posting this. However, alas, it cannot silently install Acrobat correctly (thus far).
It appears that the msi builder for CCP for enterprise is fatally flawed. I have never had as much problem with installing msi's -  ever. For example, I have had to re-package the msi multiples times and many times simply running the msi will fail.
The idea that all major installs have to install the 32 bit version AND the 64 bit version is riduclous, enough said.
http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2013/02/acrobat-xi-deployment-guide-for-large-firms/ this guide may be useful for people who have been given a separate serial number.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/known-issues-acrobat-xi-reader.html another useful link
I think for the time being I have now wasted enough time trying to tear my hair out with this. I will be waiting for Adobe to announce Acrobat and Lightroom CC. this will enable the correct deployment of a single app without having the bloat my SOE with unnecessary applications that most staff rarely use. Ahhh, I love a good manual install via VNC/RDP, don't you?

Hi Waltpenner and others, yes it can be very confusing and writing script after script got me even more confused.
Now, the story continues, after 6+ hours on the phone with Adobe Support...
When you install Adobe Acrobat XI it asks you to install the C++ Redistributable package and this is where the msi will STOP INSTALLING. even though the MSI says "complete"
Now you think to yourself, OK, I'll write a script to install this msi package no problems, solved.
Nope, the msi for Acrobat Pro XI will Still Halt even if you write this into the script along with halt no err or something similar in your code.
    So what do you do?
When you create your msi in Cloud Packager, even though this feels completely against your better judgement tick the box under conflicting Process entitled "Ignore Conflicts and Continue installations" This will (finally) allow you to run the msi. Please see the wonderful deployment script above, which you may still need to edit to your needs (I did) - which I post once it's working perfectly.
You could then install the C++ redist from Microsoft at a later date ----> On that note however (thanks Microsoft for this gem) the Visual C++ redist is an msi for download, but it's actually a zip file calling an exe inside it. I suggest using the App Deploy Repackager  to help you change registry entries if you need to install this, but choose your favourite tool (and no I'm not talking about that work colleague you don't like
Note: You will need to install this for certain features of Acro Pro XI to function, most of which relates to sever functions of Acrobat. I will post the exact reasons when I find them. Under pressure to get this deployed, I have not deployed this pckage as yet. Also, I'm unsure how Visual C++ will affect other major apps across my enterprise just yet.
    Things to still consider
Acrobat still installs twice in the program directory (1.7GB nd 1.8GB respectively)
As all of the other CC packages are quite easy to install, Adobe needs to provide better service to it's enterprise customers by creating a proper version of Acrobat and Lightroom which is Acrobat CC and Lightroom CC, not version numbers tacked onto their new Cloud Service.
As for the above point I would still recommend creating the smallest msi packages you can, as large msi's that install a number of Apps (eg all of the web/image editing apps) take forever and quite often exhibit install errors
The amount of time I've spent on this is ridiculous, and we've had to package everything from Office to Autocad.
The amount of bandwidth I've chewed up is excessive, with package re-creation (download) of all the products probably about 100GB - however the ability to edit these packages with updates with the CCP is a good step forward.
Using the CCP through a proxy is horrendous, and complicated with the amount of exception through the servers you have to prvide (even then it rarely works).
The MSI packager still needs quite alot of work. As Petri states why he had to write a script like this when Adobe could have done the same thing is beyond him.
Adobe needs to trawl it's forum posts and take out the many false leads and dead ends provided by it's experts.
When I Think of anything else, or wite more scipts I'll let you all know.
    Cheers,

My boundaries and boundary groups are configured, I can see the objects in the Systems Management Container in AD, but still the agent install via WSUS will not work. Any suggestions?

see my latest post. It looks like a bug in the setup. It selects a certificate but still it presents information that iis on the mp does not accept. Check your iis logs. Manual install works for ssl only sites. I haven't got any other methods yet. I will
    keep you updated.

  • Is 2 GB Ram really necessary?

Looking to upgrade my gf's Macbook.
    1 GB = $99
    2 GB = $225
Given OSX's good memory management quality, and the fact that she will mainly do web design and LogicPro 7 work on the Macbook, is the 2 GB really necessary or will it be more like overkill?
We had 2 GB in our old powerbooks and it seemed to make little real-world everyday difference between 1 GB of Ram.
    Thanks for any comments...

I'm running 2G of Ram with Logic Pro 7. It's well worth the money if you can afford it. And it also depends on what you're going to within Logic Pro 7. But so far, I've noticed a HUGE difference...things are running a lot smoother than before the memory upgrade.
Having said that, 1G should be sufficient. Of course, Logic Pro 7 is running Universal. So you're going to get your money worth. And plus, your gf is going to love you for the 2G upgrade.
Web-design takes less "stress" than using Logic. But then again, if she's a professional web-designer and going to use Photoshop with it...keep in mind that it's not Universal yet. But when the update is ready, I'm sure it will fly with 2G of Ram.
Not all 3rd party plug-ins for Logic Pro 7 are universal yet...so performance is going to suffer a little when running those plug-ins.
Live 5.2 is UB and Reason 3.0.5 is also UB. If you really want to surprise your gf, get these 2 music production softwares, she will love using them with Logic Pro 7. I know, I'm a little off topic, just some suggestions. Any day is Valentine day.
