Captivate 7 not recognizing animated GIF's?

I've used photoshop CS6 to create an animated GIF from a video clip. using timeline I have a file saved in .GIF format and it is clearly an animation. When I insert > animation CV7 Tells me "file is not an animated GIF file". It is starting to become a bit ridiculous when you consider that the file was made using PS and that it IS an animated GIF. I am just wondering if there is some kind of "special" step I need to get them imported or if I am somehow saving it incorrectly?
Has anyone had any issues with animated GIF's in Captivate 7?
Thanks in advance.
Jon
the image in question is here:

Hi Jon,
I think this is because of the delay value you set for each Frame within Photoshop.
Please go to Photoshop, open the source file, Could you please set the 'delay' value for each of your Frame to 0.01 or some value if it shows as 0, this can be done using the animation frame Window. Save it as GIF again for Web Devices and import in Captivate, see, if you are abale to inport this time in Captivate. Although the step is applicable for a differnt problem, but still i am curious, if this could solve it.
Secondly, Could you try inserting it as an image rather than animation, the message means it is not a complete animation but a regular file.
Thanks,
Anjaneai

On my MacBook using Captivate 5.5, the trackpad clicks and scrolls will be recorded. However, my Logitech mouse clicks and scrolls will not be recorded.
Does anybody else have this problem or have a solution?

    Hello there,
When you mention that the clicks are not getting recognized, do you mean no steps are getting recorded or just the mouse cursor is not showing up? Can you please give more details on what do you see in the output?

  • Animated .gif files in Captivate - why doesn't it work?

    OS:                         XP
    Captivate Version:      3
I was e-mailed an animated .gif that I want to use in a project I'm working on.
I saved the .gif to a drive.  I then clicked Insert - Animation and selected it.  I received a message stating This is not an animated GIF file or file in use.  If I click Insert - Image, it brings in the image but the file is not animated.
Just for testing purposes, I moved the .gif file by itself on to the web server.  When I access it through Internet Explorer on the web server, it works.
How do I get the file to animate in Captivate?
    Your help is appreciated.  Thanks.

I wasn't able to open your GIF animation in Photoshop and nothing appeared in Captivate when I inserted it -- the same experience that you had. I tried an experiment with a very simple GIF animation that I created from scratch in Photoshop CS4. When I tried to insert this simple animation into Captivate 4, a message appeared that Captivate was converting. It never finished converting and eventually hung Captivate and had to force it to quit.
Since Lilybiri is able to insert Photoshop animated GIFs into Captivate without any problems, it may be that there are some version incompatibilities. It would be interesting to know which versions of Photoshop and Captivate Lilybiri is using and which versions you are using. It would also be interesting to know if Lilybiri is using transparency in the GIF, and which settings are being used when saving the GIF.

  • Cannot Import Animated Gif

Hi all. I have been following the Lynda tutorials for Captivate 5 for Mac, and I'm at the point where they are inserting animated .gif files. When I attempt to insert the image via Insert > Animation, and select the file I receive the message that "The file is not an animated GIF file", and then nothing imports to the stage.
I downloaded an animated .gif from the web and tried to import that, but same result. They both open up on Photoshop fine.
Can anybody help me with this issue?

    Hi,
    In my envirement...
If the animations frames set to "No Delay (0 Sec)" in PhotoShop, once import the GIF file to Captivate will get "The file is not an animated GIF file", if import the GIF file to Media Encoder will have problem too.
Please try set frames to 0.1 seconds at least

  • Animated GIF's as Wallpaper

I have tried to use several animated gif images as wallpaper on my Nokia 5610, but none of them will animate, only the first frame shows (no cycling of frames). Are animated gif's not supported by the nokia 5610? Is there an option I need to turn on?

Most Nokia phones will not support animated GIFs as wallpapers (I say most just to cover myself, I'm not sure that any do).
You should be able to view animated images withing the gallery, but the behaviour you describe seems normal for the wallpaper.

  • Identifying/resizing animated GIF

    Hi
This is my situation: I load user-selected image files (any format is OK, the more the better) for later transmission as byte array, always re-encoded as JPG. If the image is over some certain width/height, I scale down the image (display size issues). Until now I was reading the images with ImageIO.read, downsizing with Graphics2D.drawImage and encoding with ImageIO.write, and everything works nicely.
Now I need to support animated GIFs as well. The current method makes animated gifs as a static first frame of the animation. My two alternatives are:
1 - support animated GIF downsizing
2 - detecting animated GIFs and handling them separately (no resize allowed, no re-encode)
The first alternative sounds cumbersome, Googling around showed problems with lost transparency and requiring to downsize all frames separately and then re-encode. If I have to do this extract-downsize-encode I won't take this route, better do not perform animated GIF resizing. The second alternative sounds much simpler, and less problem-prone.
Now I would like suggestions on how can I archive this. I'd really appreciate some code/lib to detect and optionally resize animated GIFs. It must be a free code solution.
The only animated GIF detection code I found was this, but it requires looking for certain bytes, and I'd like a more robust solution (also it didn't worked).
I would like to keep using ImageIO API rather than older APIs, as it seems to provide better image format support and is way simpler. A lib to do the GIF part of the job is fine.
    Thanks!

This is my situation: I load user-selected image files (any format is OK, the more the better) for later transmission as byte array, always re-encoded as JPG. If the image is over some certain width/height, I scale down the image (display size issues). If they are JPEGs that is entirely the wrong solution. You are losing far too much image quality. What you should be doing here is saving with a lower 'q'. That's exactly what it's for - intelligent compression of images. You are just doing naive resampling. JPEG can do far better than that.
I worked on a project where somebody downsized thousands of images like this, entirely the wrong way. Don't repeat this mistake.
As to the rest, sounds like you need a GIF plugin for ImageIO that will let you read the header.

  • Photoshop CS6 linking to a URL in an animated gif

Feel a bit anal asking this as my experise is not in animated gifs but I need to know how to link either the last frame of an animated gif to a url.
Not even sure this is possible in PS.
    anyone?
    R

Links are not in animated gifs.  Links are a HTML thing like this
Its a html tag hyperlink and in the link you include a image using an image HTML tag the image can be an animated GIF.

  • Using animated gifs with transparent background.

    Hi guys,
    Keynotes 6.2.
I have been onto apple support with this problem.
I add a transparent animated gif to my project.
It show as a movie correctly in the presentation but when exported as quicktime or HTML the movies fail.
We eventually found out that quicktime does not support animated gifs. ( support.apple.com/kb/ht3775 )
So I exported the animation onto a folder with all the frames separately and brought them into final cut pro.
I then followed these tutorials on how to export with transparent background. ( http://provideocoalition.com/mspencer/video/fcp-x-and-alpha-channels and http://www.larryjordan.biz/fcp-export-transparency ).
I now have a quicktime movie that if I bring back into Final Cut Pro it has a transparent background.
However when I bring into keynotes it still has a black background. (presumably keynotes does not recognise the  Apple Prores 444).
Any ideas how I can achieve what I need. ?
I am using a program called crazytalk animator and can output with transparent background. Animated Gif or a series of image stills BMP, JPEG, TGA or PNG.
    Cheers
    SteveW

This has been an ongoing issue for me since I switched from Powerpoint to Keynote. Most of the animated gifs with transparent backgrounds that I used with Powerpoint are no longer transparent in Keynote. You may want to search for those earlier threads on this topic...
To summarize: I've had to open up my animated gifs in After Effects and use the Color Key effect to restore transparency, with mixed success.
    Good luck!

How do I export an animated GIF from Premiere CC?
I dont see an Animated codec option

    Hi Nick
    Believe me I STARTED there.
I wouldnt post this message if I didnt try there first.
I do not see Animated GIF as a codec option.
Please walk me through the step by step process of how you got this.
Because it is not as obvious as you're making it out to be.
Further more perhaps a certain format has to be selected for Animated GIF options to appear?
YES I AM ON CC version too. thanks!

  • I am having major issues importing Animated gif's into Adobe Captivate

    Hi everyone
Captivate 7 (64 bit) keeps crashing when i import animate gifs into flash.
It's a serious workflow issue for us as the project requires animated gifs.
I don't have any files to supply for this query as i can't even import gif's into a blank doc.
Has any one found a solution for this issue ?
Adobe ??  Have you got a fix for this bug ?
    Thanks in advance
    Nick

How were the GIF's created? Which version of 7 do you use, you can see the complete version number under Help, About Captivate.
I have been using animated GIF's in 7, they were created with Photoshop. And I know that each frame in the animation has to have a duration that is not 0secs.

  • Animated GIF. problems in Captivate

I have been trying to bring in an Animated GIF. into my
    Captivate presentation.
When I import the animation using Insert> Animation it
converts the animated gif to a swf file.
In the preview screen it shows my animated gif with multiple
colors flashing over and over. It is doing this to all of the
animated gifs that I am bringing in. My fps is set to 10 within
    Captivate.
Is there frame restrictions or file size restrictions that is
causing this error when bringing in an animated gif. Any
    suggestions?

Hi mikeygilbert23_nap and welcome to our community
Unfortunately, there are a few different methods used to
create animated .GIFs. One would think all of them would be created
simply using different images. Largely this is true. But some
animation programs allow you to choose different methods for the
way the screen is painted between frames. Sounds like you may be
    seeing this behavior.
Not sure what to advise as to how to work past it though.
Sorry. Hopefully one of the others has a clue.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Animated gif within Captivate movie?

I'm trying to insert an animated gif into a Captivate movie,
but when I do, the gif doesn't animate -- it just shows the first
frame. Is there a trick to getting these animated gifs to actually
play within the Captivate movie, without having to do a "rough
recreate" of the gif in Flash? I've looked around for a setting
within the app to address this, but couldn't find it, and according
to my search of the archives no one else has asked this question.
    Thanks in advance!
    Maureen

    Hi all
In addition to fellow ACE Steve's good advice, note that you
may notice that the gif looks just dandy if viewed on a web page
before importing. Then after importing it may appear to have had a
triple shot of espresso. This is because the frame rate of
Captivate is normally 30 FPS. It's not uncommon at all to see .GIF
files with a frame rate of 10. The answer? Either slow Captivate
down or speed up the .GIF before bringing it into Captivate.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Animated Gif files in Captivate

I have created an animated GIF file in Photoshop that i want to use in my captivate file.
The file wont preview in any of the preview modes other than the HTML5 output preview. All other previews just show the first frame of the GIF file.
If i chose to SWAP the animation with another GIF from the library the preview shows the animation playing.. see attached
Is there something im doing wrong here.
I guess i could upload my final file to the LMS with HTML5 output as this preview shows the animation but i also read there are limitations with this output as some transitions / effects dont work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Darren,
Yes, you can verify whether your GIF would fucntion correctly on HTML5 platform by Window--HTML5 Tracker Pod.
I am not an expert on Photoshop, but still would like to make a recommendation.
Set the 'delay' value for each of your Frame to 0.01 or some value if it shows as 0, this can be done using the animation frame Window. Save it as GIF again for Web Devices and import in Captivate, see, if you are abale to preview this time.
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai
