Captivate 7 Proxy awareness

Hi there,
I'm currently troubleshooting an issue I have with a user in my office. When Captivate attempts to renew its subscription online, it always fails from within the office. I have traced the issue back to Captivate in the sense that it ignored the proxy settings in the LAN connection settings and tried to activate directly to the internet. As we are a business, we naturally have a proxy set up for browsing and web traffic in general. Is there a way that I can force Captivate to use the proxy and not attempt a direct connection?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, but the problem I am facing is that Captivate 7 does not try to use the proxy. I am able to track it in my firewall as it attempts to update and it is going directly rather than using the proxy. I thought I was just being special in not being able to find proxy setting for the program as it doesn't use system settings (which is where the proxy is defined). I am still yet to find a solution to this.

  • How can I make my Flash projector proxy aware?

We have created a Flash Windows Projector exe that accesses the internet. It works fine on computer networks that do not use a proxy server. When it runs on a network that requires proxy authentication, the application cannot access the internet. How can I make it proxy aware?
    Ellie.

you can`t. allow your application internet access without the network admin defining an exception for it specifically.
If you have admin rights use the router`s/proxy`y configuration software to allow an exception.

  • Firewall setting - is CC proxy aware?

    Hello,
My Adobe CC is crashing intermittently.
I am guessing that it crashes whenever CC tries to communicate to its home server.
What ports need to be opened for Adobe CC to work?
I was told by our IT team to check also if Adobe CC is proxy aware?
If it is proxy aware, it is easier to configure the app instead of going through the screening and approvals of a firewall adjustment.
    Thanks,

  • Old application proxy-aware but not able to use WPAD

My organisation uses an old application which activates itself over the internet.  Unfortunately this only works if the proxy server is explicitly defined in Internet Settings, however a WPAD file is enforced by GPO.
Delivering this via App-V 5.0 I was hoping to overcome this by overriding the proxy settings via [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings] but all policy keys (including Internet Settings) are ignored by design.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I may work around this restriction?

    Hi all,

  • Proxy awareness and bauerbill (and others..)

    Hi folks,
I don't have much experience of proxies, so I'm probably doing something really wrong here. For various reasons, I need to tunnel all my HTTP traffic through a proxy. I'm using squid locally, on port 3128.
Everything appears fine, except for when using bauerbill to pull from the AUR. The problem's probably best explained as follows:
    % bauerbill -Ss choqok --aur
    community/choqok 0.9.92-1
    A Twitter/identi.ca/laconica client for KDE
There should be a second entry: choqok-svn from the AUR.
    I have "http_proxy=localhost:3128" in /etc/env/environment, and "session  required  pam_env.so" in /etc/pam.d/{login,sudo,su}.
Looking at the proxy log, it doesn't seem like the requests are hitting squid.
    What gives?

  • Is there a way to be able to activate our Adobe product while behind a proxy ?

This issue concern not only Captivate 6 but all our Adobe product Familly, wa are having hard time answering calls to our users asking to activate their software but being unable to do so.
The program won't acces the internet while behind a proxy (we are using a proxy pac), it is unacceptable to not be able to activate a software when behind a proxy.
    Please advise.

    Hello,
Well we already found that answer somewhere on a forum, I guess you mean add the URL to firewall exception,
but this doesn't fit Company Security Standard, in my company we cannot allow a computer access internet
directly exception or not, it is very sad that a company such as Adobe is not able to produce a tool that is
Proxy Aware for all it's functions (Software activation, Software Serial Checking etc. all doesn't behave the same way).
We need a solution ASAP as many of our users are not able to use their Adobe Softwares.

  • Screen size in windows 8.1 - all icons too small! How do I enlarge the entire captivate 8 screen?

The entire Captivate 8 screen to too small. How do I enlarge the entire window? All icons and thumbnails are 1/4 the size they should be. Using Windows 8.1.

It looks like it is an issue between Adobe and Microsoft. (Many Adobe programs are responding this way to Windows 8 and 8.1)
I am posting this to try and get some (ANY) ideas/feedback...but to also bring it to the Captivate Community attention. I hope the Captivate Staff is aware of this issue.
Same issue -great PhotoShop screenshot Photoshop too small on windows 8.1

there are many many more out there......
I tried this first, it comes with Windows and changes your display properties by application: (but it didn't work)
The program above basicly edits these settings (you can get to these by right clicking on the exe application) I tried many combos, an even tried them under the "change for all users" setting.....NADA!
I have tried editing the Windows display settings: (all screen shots below are with this setting size)
The screenshot below is at 250%. It does not make any difference in the application (check out the menu bar, properties, icons....) If I go over 150% I lose dialog box space...the buttons disappear! If I keep it at 150% the words "Advanced Actions" at the top of the dialog box shrinks slightly, enough to fit the buttons in...) I showed the difference using snag it (12 pt arial compared to the appearance of the UI ~ 4 pt.) This is so hard to see! Same issue in some of the other adobe applications. (fyi...they are all up to date)
    Photoshop = same problem
    Dreamweaver = working fine
    Flash = working fine
Premier Pro = half working....(menubar is ok but everything else is real small)
    Muse = not working

OOF! Well, any thoughts anyone? I appreciate any and al feedback and ideas!!!

  • IPad's and a IronPort Proxy.

So we've started handing out iPad's to our users.  I've been able to setup them up to access our wireless network in a secure manner.  My next problem is with getting them to use our web proxies.
We have a pair of S170's that we are using.  When I configure the HTTP Proxy settings under the wireless network on the iPad I'm getting some weird behavior.  For instance, if I type in www.cisco.com Safari changes the url to https://www.cisco.com:8443.  If I leave the proxy settings off I get a message saying Safari cannot open the page.  It doesn't even prompt me for user credentials like it would on a PC.
I'm sure other people have run into this.  Has anyone found a work around?  I've been searching the forums and from what I've found the general consensus is that iPad's are just not enterprise friendly.
    Thanks

Im afraid if you want to put iPads through a proxy, put the proxy in transparent mode as the Apps are not proxy aware and its not a great browsing experience in explicit mode.
Apple do not provide great direction on this. In my view iPads are not enterprise ready......and Apple almost want you to build your infrastructure around making them work, not the other way around.
    Hope this helps.

  • Setting up Rational Set Matrix Quizzes using Adobe Captivate 7

My Boss wants me to setup a quiz with 3 set levels of difficulty in Adobe Captivate 7, he wants  5 questions each in random order. The concept is if a question is answered correctly the student moves on to the next level. For example if Question a-1 is correct move to questions a2,b2,c2,d2,e2  in random order, if the answer is incorrect the student will go through level 1 until he/she has passed to move, if these are correct the student will move to the third level a3,b3,c3,d3,e3 in random order and they will have two try's per question but they must continue in the quiz until they have passed it. Then we will gather the data for the question attempts, time, average, and percentage.
Any Suggestion? I've been using Adobe Captivate 7 for 7 months,so I'm still learning.

I've never been asked to implement a quiz structured the way you describe, but if I WAS asked to do one, I would probably implement it using Quiz Question Pools and Randomised Question Slides.
Have one quiz pool for each different level.  So A1,B1, C1, D1 quiz slides would all be added into Quiz Pool 1.  Questions A2,B2, C2, D2 etc would be in Pool 2, etc.
Then you need to add however many Random Quiz Slides you need to allow for the maximum number of questions your learners will be exposed to in your course.
Captivate's Branch Aware feature allows your learner's score to be calculated based on ONLY the quiz question slides they actually visit.
So if you use Advanced Actions to control which specific Random Question Slides your learner gets to see (based on which questions they get right) their final score will only be based on those specific slides.
The tricky part of this may end up being the design of your branching.  You need to set the On Success and On Last Attempt actions of each Randomised Quiz Question Slide to jump to another relevant Randomised Quiz Question Slide.  As I understand your description, if the user gets a single level one question correct, then they should be jumped from then on ONLY to level 2 quiz questions, is that correct?  If so, then you will need a user variable to track which quiz level they have currently achieved, and use this variable in conditional advanced actions attached to the On Success and On Last Attempt events of each question to determine where they go as a result.
Like I said, it's not newbie stuff.  But if you want to learn more about how variables, runtime events, and conditional advanced actions work, here are some links:

    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-advanced-actions/conditional-actions
Since the main difference between each conditional action will be the actual slide jumped to, this might even be a case where Shared Actions could be useful:

  • IPad and proxy settings for more than AppStore and Safari?

Why am I having problems w/ most apps and the proxy settings?  My corp. network requires proxy settings to get to the internet and only the AppStore and Safari (and a few specifically designed apps) will use the proxy settings.  All other apps simply do not work.
Is this an Apple problem?  Why was this not addressed by Apple?

Yes, they have. Not only on iPad, but every internet application, on Mac or on PC or on *nix, have to be coded internally to use proxies. Some are, and are also smart enough to check for any proxy info on network options of your system, some other will have the proxy info to be given in internal application setup, and some other, simply does not know what proxies are.

That is a SOCK, and is another different stuff. There is no hole in the O.S., it is the app you want to use, because that app wants connect the internet by herself, without using your proxy.
Best advice is, you ask that app's developer, to add in future releases, proxy connectivity or (best) to check if network requires a proxy and act accordingly without bother the user on the issue
Anyway, I'd like answer also your other questions:

You have problems because that apps don't think about the proxy setting you have in your network configuration (app poorly coded), or they require direct internet access in their specs (app aware of proxy, and do not want use it), access that you don't have because of proxy. Not your fault. Nor Apple's

  • Can LabVIEW access an HTTPS site behind a proxy?

I have been trying to use LabVIEW to access an https site through our corporate firewall/proxy and have been unable to get it to work. Does anyone have any experience with this and or know whether this should be able to be done?
I have successfully been able to get LV to access websites (http and https) without going through a firewall and thanks to posts on these forums figured out how to access an http site through the firewall but have come up blank when trying any https sites. Below are some test cases I have tried. All of these sites are easily accessed via browsers so it isn't due to firewall/proxy iblocking.
    Any help would be appreciated,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I suspect the SSL handshake failing is getting close to the source of the problem.
We have the same proxy port (8080) for both http and https as far as I can tell. I have used wireshark to monitor the message flow and LV is doing something quite different than my browser does.
The browser opens a connection to the proxy (on port 8080) and then issues a CONNECT command to the proxy to access the ultimate location and then does a SSL handshake.
LabVIEW opens a connection to the proxy but then appears to be encrypting it immediately without a SSL handsake that I can see.
My speculation is that the underlying LabVIEW code is not really proxy aware and doesn't know how to issue a CONNECT command or equivalent. I'd be glad to be proven wrong with someone demonstrating this works for them (I've posted a sample VI in a previous post).
I can also post the wireshark message info if it would help anyone troubleshoot what is going on.

  • Reverse Proxy Configuration - HPVM (Guest)

    Hello Unix Champs,
On 11iV3 - Vm Guest -  we want to configure this server as reverse proxy
Please share step by step procedure/documents to do same.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,

Assuming your webserver is apache, you have to make the apache proxy-aware. This can be done statically (while building apache from source with --with-proxy option) or dynamically with a LoadModule directive.
Once the above is done, you will need to write these directives in the apache httpd.conf:
    ProxyEnable Off
    ProxyPass /localurl remote-url
    ProxyPassReverse....
In the OAM config, protect /localurl.
For other webservers, read the documentation of that webserver.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cloud with Proxies - Proof and solution

    Hi all,
I've struggled with this issue for a while, and read many similar posts from those having the same issue. I have found a solution that worked for me and hopefully others.
Essentially, although the Application Manager and other utilities appear to function properly inside a corporate network, the "phone home" services fail to connect, and leave you with an "expired subscription" or various messages similar to "You're not connected to the internet" and so on.
Adobe adamantly states that the software is "Proxy-aware" so there must be other unresolvable issues, and you should kindly ask your IT team to deactivate firewalls, proxies, virus-protection, etc... (yea, right...). You could also request adding exceptions to 6 or so activation servers on a range of ports, which still doesn't work, and take 6 months and 5 levels of management approval.
In reality, "proxy-aware" is only partly accurate, as shown in the graphic below. I monitored PDApp.exe (Adobe Application Manager) with the ProcessExplorer tool (Windows, sysinternals) while doing several network-active tasks to see where the traffic was being routed.
So, PDApp.exe gets correctly routed via my proxy server for installing apps, running updates, and logging in to the app when opening it up.
However, when getting "Subscription Expired" and "Unable to connect to the internet" and clicking "Try Again" or "Licence this Software", the proxy is ignored and the app attempts to connect directly to ims-na1.adobelogin.com, which fails.
The worst part of this was I went through the 5 levels of management approval and so on to get the two servers Adobe states you need access to for Cloud added as exceptions to our firewall(https://activate.adobe.com and https://lm.licenses.adobe.com/, on ports 23, 80 and 443), and still got nowhere, because without ims-na1.adobelogin.com, you can't proceed past the screen above.
    Now, for my solution:
I searched for software that would force a program to use a specific proxy. I came across lots, I have to experience with these so I can't vouch for any particular one, but I chose "Proxifier". (They have one that doesn't require an installer for those who don't have local admin rights.) This one is a trial, I'm sure there are free ones as well, just search a bit more.
The proxy server address can be deduced from watching working software traffic in Process Explorer (right click on "Internet Explorer" and got to properties, then TCP/IP, I could see the proxy being addressed under "Remote address", as see in the graphics above). Alternatively just ask your IT team.
I won't get into how to set up the software, read it's help files; what you want is to take any communications from PDApp.exe that are NOT already destined to your proxy server's address and send them to your proxy server's address. (this is important - some communications from PDApp are proxy-aware and redirecting them will cause them to fail)
Hopefully this helps a few people. Despite the issues I love Adobe's software, and am happy I am using it again.

Thanks for taking a read Jeff, and passing along the information.
My company uses an ISA proxy server (HTTP protocol)
Like many such systems, ISA server does not allow SSL tunnels to ports other than 443 and 563 by default (PDApp attempts to use ports 80 and 8080). The reasoning is that SSL tunnels bypass security policy rules and inspection and therefore creates a security risk, which is taken quite seriously (especially with a company this size (37,000+). Check out http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc302684.aspx for more detail.
As an addendum to the initial post, it is critical that the IT team allows SSL tunnels to the required ports. I hadn't noticed this originally as the policy was adjusted to allow access to the addresses Adobe originally provided.
I might add a disclaimer that the software mentioned above and similar can also be used to try and circumvent a company's internet security policies, so make sure you can demonstrate that it is being used to force the proxy server rather than avoid it!

  • ITunes Store Error (0x80092013) and (-50)?

I have a Windows Vista computer and for a while now, I have not been able to connect to the iTunes store and its quite annoying.
I have the most recent version of iTunes and I've noticed many people have/had this problem, but many of the 'solutions' did not work for me.
The errors included: (0x80092013) and occasionally (-50).
This has become a problem for me because I would like to authorize another computer and use home sharing for my iPod Touch 4g. I also cannot log into my apple ID since I get these errors. I know when I try to do those things, I'm connected to the interent as well. It also will tell me that the iTunes server cannot be connected.
If someone could help or suggest a way to resolve this, it'd be awesome, thanks!

    Hi All,
With regards to error 0x80092013 – this relates to a failure of iTunes to correctly reference a valid CRL (which prevents the establishment of an SSL connection to the iTunes store).
Now, a large CRL endpoint recently moved locations, interesting just days after HeartBleed hit (see here: http://www.lyncblog.info/2014/04/update-your-firewall-now-with-this-new-crl-endp oint/).  It would seem that iTunes requires access to this specific CRL.
For home users, your router, computer or browser may have cached the old CRL location, thus causing the issues with your iTunes connection – this is why the users attempting DNS changes have had some success.
For corporate users behind a proxy or firewall, the issue will relate to the new CRL location not being whitelisted.  This connection is not proxy aware (sigh) which means you won’t be able to authenticate to enable iTunes to access the CRL – the only way is to whitelist the new URL.
So do yourself a favour and add sa.symcb.com to your firewall’s whitelist.
With sa.symcb.com whitelisted, iTunes should be able to successfully obtain a valid CRL and your iTunes connection should now succeed.
It would have been nice if Apple could have provided a little more assistance in this matter – especially for enterprise customers.  But hey Hopefully this post helps some users out there.
