Captivate 7 Publish as .EXE requirements

Hello,
I am publishing a Captivate 7 project as both .EXE and .APP for Windows and Mac use.  These will be burned onto a CD-ROM for distribution.  Are there certain computer hardware requirements for running these applications?  For example, will this work on Windows 95/98/XP/Vista/7?  Or is there a certain RAM or processor MHz recommendations?  I'm not able to test on all these platforms, and wondered if there were standard compatiability requirements.  Or perhaps "best" suggestions (example: Windows .EXE works best on XP/7 with 128 MB Ram or higher).
Thanks,
Kailey

Hi There,
Greetings!!
.exe and .app  feature is removed from Adobe Captivate 8. You can raise and submit the feature request by going to the following link  :   https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&loc=en

    Publishing CPT to Windows Executable...
    Two things happen:
No matter what existing .ico file I point to, CPT says, "The icon file is damaged. Icon might not be correctly generated. Continue?"
When the executable is available (has been published), the resulting exe file is flagged as "malicious" or "threat" when a download is attempted (in both G-Chrome and IE9)
It says the published cannot be verified.
    Can the publisher be verified?
Is it seen as malicious because of the supposedly damaged icon file?
And IF the icon file is the problem, how do I make Captivate stop trying to use the icon file? How do I clear the field so CPT won't try to use any icon file?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the updated info. It just seemed strange that you were already coaxing them to a web page to download the EXE, so why not make it just SWF/HTM.
One approach might involve doing the SWF/HTM for those that want to view immediately, then offer the EXE as a download from either the same page or from within the Captivate. Your call on how that happens. Aside from posting images of what they are likely to encounter, there is no way I'm aware of to prevent the dialog stating that an EXE could contain malicious code.
Yes, I do agree that if Windows is happy with an ICO, Captivate should be as well. Unfortunately it is what it is and it's very unlikely to change until the development team hears from enough unhappy users. To tell them about it, please submit a Wish Form/Bug Report. (link is in my sig for that)

when launching adobe captivate 7, i am required to login, I login and captivate never launches

You have to launch as an administrator, is not the same as  being administrator: use right-click menu on shortcut key or .exe  and change that permantently using the advanced tab.
Don't have your documents on network drive, but copy the document to your system, and you can copy it back after finishing with it.

  • Is it possible to change the background color when publishing as EXE Full Screen?

I often publish Captivate projects as EXE - FullScreen. I would l like to set the background color outside of the EXE frame. Is that possible. When running my Captivate published .EXEs at full screen at a resolution greater than the project, a tan color background color appears and I would like to change it to black, or some other color. I tried the Skin - HTML background color, but that had no effect.
    Thanks

    Hi,
it is - use the oItem.BackColor property
    BackColor PropertyDescription
Returns or sets a value specifying the background color of text or graphics in an item.
    Property type
    Read-write property
    Syntax (Visual Basic)

  • Attaching Work & PP documents and publishing as .exe

    Hello all,
I do not know why, but I am having difficulty opening documents that are attached via a click box on a published project in .exe format. I have created a folder called Test, with another folder called Docs. In my click box the reference to the file is Docs/test.doc.
When ever I select the link to open, it shows NETWORK ERROR URL: http://Docs/test.doc Your requested host "Doc/test.doc" could not be resolved by DNS. Is there a known issue with accessing links in the .exe format and if so is there a work around?
This same set up publishes and the file opens ok in a FLASH (swf) published file format.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
    Mark

    Hi All,
when I publish my project to .exe format, I cannot open the attached Word or PowerPoint documents within the project once viewing. I receive an error in IE. However if published as a .swf file to view in IE, the links work fine and open in a new window as I requested via setting up in click box options.
What am I missing or not doing when publishing to .exe file? I notice a message
The files/projects listed below are linked to the open project. The linked files/projects may require exporting.
Followed by the list of docs attached,
All files are linked relative to the .exe location re being placed on different secure share drives throughout the country.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • CAPTIVATE CPTX TO EXE FILE

I NEED TO PUBLISH AND EMAIL A CPTX PROJECT BY PUBLISHING IT IN EXE. THIS IS TESTING FOR A JOB APPLICATION USING YOUR CAPTIVATE PRODUCTS,
BUT THE TRIAL VERSION WON'T LET ME DO THAT.

    Hi there
As Lilybiri said, you typically work in Captivate with a raw file. Consider it to being similar to mixing ingredients for a cake in a mixing bowl. The baked cake is the EXE file you are seeking. To "bake" the cake, you perform a publish. Now you may be thinking of Publish as many web developers do. The act of copying content from one place to another. In Captivate, Publish is like compiling in other applications. So try clicking File > Publish and you should then see another dialog that allows you to "bake the cake".

  • Free trial- is publish to .exe disabled?  Documentation doesn't mention this

    Hi Everyone,
We're using the free trial to see if we can open an existing Director file and export out an .exe.   We believe the original Director file was created on a PC but are not positive.
When we go to Publish, the .exe option is grayed out.   If we go to Options> move from Shockwave to Standard.  Then go back to Publish the .exe button is now available.  However when we select it and click on Publish nothing happens.
    We have tried:
    - Moving the source files to a different directory in case the files are in a read-only format
    - Installing the trial on 2 Windows 7 PCs.   Both encountered the same problem.
    - Publishing to HTML, this works just fine.
Knowing that it's a disabled feature in the trial might help.   But we sure don't want to buy it if we cannot publish to an executible or it's problematic.   This file would need to be updated and published as an .exe and is the main reason to buy the software.
    Windows 7
    Service pack 1
    4GB RAM
    Director 11.5
Thanks for any tips or help!

Mike thanks so much!   That was super helpful.  I could not find any mention of the publishing feature being disabled in the trial documentation but sure enough it was until we ran the updates  If others have similar problems with the trial or publishing in general we also found updating the Shockwave and Flash plug-ins to the latest versions helped with some other publishing features that were not working or enabled as well.
    Yay!  Thanks again!

  • Flash version detection with Captivate published files?

Doe sanyone know if the Captivate publishes their HTML file
that includes a flash detector of the user's system when they first
attempt to activate a piece of Cpativate content.?
I have a customer who wants to know how (most automatic )
method to have their Captivate contnet viewers systmes checked for
the approriate Flash player and feedback message to alert them tof
the need and how to download.

    Hi jonturkle
I'm going to crawl way out here on this shaky little limb and
say that this is factored into the mix. I say that because I
recently saw a post where someone needed to output Captivate in
Flash 6 format. Captivate 3 outputs in Flash 7 format as a minimum.
They were saying that when they attempted to run the Captivate
files, the users were being prompted to install a newer version of
    the Flash player.

  • Captivate 8 aggregator exe project not calling external files

I published a project as HTML in captivate 8 and then using aggregator i published it as exe.
Now the exe project does not call the pdf files attached to it. While the same was working fine in the HTML version.

I'm having a similar issue. I've used a "home" button to return to the main menu of the course. However, all it does is return me to the last screen I was on. I've tried linking the button to a the aggregator htm and to the swf. Neither gives me the results I want. I currently have it set to open in the current window. However, I get the feeling that it's automatically invoking a bookmarking feature and I'm not getting the pop-up box asking me if I want to return to the last screen or not.

    Hi Bruce,
As Mike said, you can produce a Standard Projector rather
    than a Shockwave
Projector to avoid the Shockwave installation requirement.
    Or, you could create
a Shockwave Projector and bundle teh required DLLs. I have
    info on this in my
    stub projector page at:

  • Captivate published Swf to open an external PDF file

    Hi all,
I need help to open an external PDF file from the swf file.
I used this previously. But realised that I can only open the pdf file from the published html file but not the swf file.
    function onClick() {
    window.open("mypdf.pdf");
    onClick();
Can anyone tell me what is wrong as i am not very good with javascript.
    Thanks.

Lilybiri is correct that you should be able to use the Open URL or File action.
But I also just tested your JS code on my own PC here in Captivate (triggered by a button set to Execute Javascript) and it worked fine.
If you are testing this locally on your PC hard drive, have you made sure that the publish folder location is set up as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings?  It might not be working for that reason.
You can also try uploading your SWF and PDF file to a web server and testing from there.  Flash Global Security doesn't tend to bother content from a web server.

  • How do I publish an exe file?

I am new to Director and I am greatly benefiting from this
forum. I have a Director question that maybe someone can help me
with. It's a ridiculously simple problem but somehow I can't figure
    it out. Here it is:
How do I publish/export an exe from Director? I want to put
the my output movie on a CD-ROM as an exe and, despite trying many
different publish settings, all I get is a shockwave movie.
I'd greatly appreciate any advice or guidance. Thanks

    "It's a lousy decision" -- I couldn't agree more. I'm a
longtime Director developer (since MacroMind days) but since my new
employers didn't have a current version, I ordered D11 through our
software purchasing process, which takes a little time. Downloaded
the demo version so I could get started w/my app ... but, no, I
can't create one with the demo version. Very silly decision on
Adobe's part ... what was wrong with a watermark as a solution to
people using the demo instead of buying the product? Taking a hard
look at Adobe AIR as an alternative, and maybe something like
Appcelerator/Titanium or Multidmedia Zinc so users don't have to
deal with AIR runtime install issues. I really hope Adobe's neglect
is not the end for Director.
