Captivate 7 - SCORM 1.2 Publishing Issue to IE8

When publishing my Captivate 7 files to SCORM 1.2 and loading into an LMS, when exiting the course file from the LMS, I am taken to a page that says "This page does not exist." I am only receiving this page error in Internet Explorer (8), not the Chrome browser. I have tried various publish settings, none have fixed the issue thus far. Please let me know how this issue can be resolved. (My LMS said this is a Captivate 7/IE issue, not an issue on their part).

Hi,
Can you test this to close the course window:
Insert 3 buttons or smart shape used as buttons (as Finish course buttons).
On the first button apply an action to execute javascript and in the script window, use this script: parent.close()
On the second button apply an action to execute javascript and in the script window, use this script: top.window.close()
On the third button, execute a standard action and assign "cpCmndExit" (system variable) with 1.
Then publish the course and upload it to your LMS and check whether any one of these work for you?
Thanks

  • Captivate 4 publishing issue?--very strange results with embedded swfs

I have a captivate file with some swf's created in flash, and some simple swf's created in Captivate 4.  When I publish, the swf's created in Flash pause if you pause the player, but the captivate published swfs do not.  Also, I have a captivate published swf playing on my 3rd slide, and on the first slide in playback, you can hear a mouse click, like the flash has already started playing.  And sure enough when you get to the 3rd slide, the flash is in the middle of playing.  I have "sync to project" checked on all of them.  Is this a bug with captivate??   please help!

    Hi there,
Just to add to Michael's excellent post. I would suggest that you check to see what the frame rate in Flash is set to. When inserting SWF animations into Captivate you need to make sure that your Flash projects (SWFs) have a frame rate of 30 fps.
Another option would be to create test SWF in Flash using AS3 and insert this into a Captivate AS3 project. To set your Captivate project to AS 3 carry out the following steps:
    1. Choose Edit > Preferences
    2. Select the Publish Settings category of the Project preferences
    3. Choose AS3
    4. Click OK.
Next, publish your CP file as a SWF (externalizing the animations as Michael suggested) and see if that makes any difference.

  • Why does captivate 5 scorm 2004 change the pass/fail status when using complete/incomplete

SUMMARY:  I am trying to use SCORM 2004 reporting but I am finding out ADOBE does not diffentiate between COMPLETE/INCOMPLETED and PASSED/FAILED variables in the SCORM 2004.
RESULT: I can not accurately get the passing/failing status from the course.
QUESTION: Is their anything I can do or does ADOBE have a patch they have release which will accurately report the passed/failed STATUS as well as the completed/incompleted status.
OTHER RESEARCH: I even attempted to post these "proofs" on scorm.com and they have something called "SATISFACTION TRACKED" to accomodate content creation systems (CAPTIVATE 5) which does not follow the standards of SCORM 2004.
BACKGROUND:  the report status "Incomplete/Complete" and "Pass/Fail" under the publishing options for SCORM 2004 essentially mean the same thing when the CAPTIVATE COURSE sends setvar commands to the SCORM API...  In other words the SCORM API receives the same exact commands when publishing in both modes.  "THIS IS WRONG"
why is the wrong?  IF REPORTING; incomplete/complete ;  the CAPTIVATE 5 COURSE SHOULD NOT "change" the STATUS OF PASS/FAIL when attempting to report COMPLETE/INCOMLETE with 100% slide views.
    DEMO #3> SHOWS THE PROBLEM
About DEMO #1 and DEMO #2> these are other reporting options I attempted with other problems arrising..so these images are just for supporting my original problem which is shown in DEMO #3...
DEMO 1 (REPORT STATUS has no affect on reporting):SETTINGS:
    PASS: (PROBLEM)
Anything above Passing Score is not recorded to LMS (once passing is reached...no more bookmarks are recorded)
    FAIL: (CORRECT)
Failure gets sent to the database on the last screen with "completed"
DEMO 2 (Report status  [Complete/Incomplete  Pass/Fail]   has no impact on commands sent to scorm api):
    SETTINGS:
    PASS: (CORRECT)
Very Last page gets sent to the Database
    FAIL: (PROBLEM)
NOTHING GETS SENT TO DATABASE (stuck in final score screen forever)...because it says "INCOMPLETE"
    DEMO 3:
Report status [Complete/Incomplete Pass/Fail] has no impact on commands sent to scorm api
    SETTINGS:
    PASS: (CORRECT)
Very Last page gets sent to the Database with a 90% passing with "completed"
    FAIL: (PROBLEM)
LAST SLIDE SENDS "completed" but GETS SENT AS A PASSING SCORE??? even when it is a failure
(IN OTHER WORDS ADOBE CHANGES THE PASS/FAIL STATUS based on slide views...
this is WRONG ....REALLY WRONG becuase I am trying to report
    "COMPLETE/INCOMPLETE" for 100% slide views
    PASS/FAIL OPTIONS:
    OPTION I CAN PURSUE?
SO WHAT CAN I DO?  YES, I CAN TELL THE LMS...to COMPARE THE SCORE RECEIVED DURING A "COMPLETE" status...and then change the grade in the LMS based on the SCORE IN THE LMS...BUT THAT WOULD MEAN THE LMS COULD REPORT ONE GRADE and the COURSE COULD REPORT A DIFFERENT GRADE....and that would not be good.
ALL OF OUR COURSES SHOW THE STUDENT THE FINAL SCORE WITHIN EACH COURSE..
    QUESTION TO ADOBE?
SO ADOBE when are you going to differentiate these two reporting options so that the PASS/FAIL OPTIONS ARE ACCURATELY REPORTED WHEN USING COMPLETE/INCOMPLETE?

    Hi,
Here's something I found in a similar situation... hope this helps!
After publishing your CP5 project as a SCORM 2004 zip file, unzip the file so you can get into the separate files.  Open the imsmanifest.xml file with a text editor; I like using Notepad++.  Search for the line starting with <imsss:minNormalizedMeasure>.  The complete line will probably look like <imss:minNormalizedMeasure></imss:minNormalizedMeasure>, this is the line that is supposed to contain your passing score (at least for our LMS).  So, if your passing score is supposed to be 80%, edit this line to be:  <imsss:minNormalizedMeasure>0.80</imsss:minNormalizedMeasure> and save the file.  Then select all the files and re-zip them, I use 7-zip for that.
I found one other weird thing that doesn't happen 100% of the time, so test it.  In the example above, try to get a score of exactly 80% (or whatever passing grade you are using) and see if you get the correct status reported.  I found I sometimes have to re-edit that line in the manifest file to be 0.79 so it correctly includes an exact 80% score.  No idea why and you have to watch the number of questions in your quiz to make sure that works for you mathematically.
If this works or not, I'd recommend posting your results so others can get some ideas.  Good Luck!!

First slide, my title slide with audio, is not the the published mp4.
I can insert a phantom slide into the project, before my title slide, as a work-around, but I shouldn't have to do that.
Is there something I clicked on or need to click on?
    Thanks!

First of all, please apply the patch to your version. Captivate 6.0.0.199 had a truckload of issues. Here is the link for the patch.

How are you inserting the audio? Is it coming from the PPT or did you insert it in Captivate? Is it a slide audio or is it associated with an object?

  • Captivate 7 project fails to publish to Adobe Connect

    ERROR MESSAGE:
"Failed to publish your project to the Adobe Connect Server. Verify your network conection and try again"
First of all, my network connection is fine. And I have run through a number of solutions to try to make this work but im running my head into a wall trying to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The project is a quiz and survey with multiple choice, likert, and short answer questions with 5 .flv videos. I have a sepearte file with likert questions (I heard those a problematic) that gave me the same error when I tried to publish with captivate 6, but worked with captivate 7. So it publishes that file with likerts but not this one. The publisher gives the error whether the file has videos or not. Any ideas?

    Hi there,
From the post, it looks like the issue is specific to a project. Is it possible for you to share the problematic project with us so that we can investigate the issue at our end? Please upload it to a shared workspace (Acrobat.com) and send me the link to [email protected]

  • Captivate 5/SCORM 1.2: Won't read percentage score right?

I am using Captivate 5.5 to publish a 21-SCO course (18 reading slides and 3 quizzes). I have used SCORM 1.2 (in order to eventually use Moodle) and have chosen Complete/Incomplete, Report as Percent and Slide Views Only (for the learning slides with no interactions) and Quiz Score Only (for the three quizzes). I am using the Captivate 4 SCORM Packager.
Here's my problem: I can't get it to read the percentage complete as the score. I am using SCORM Cloud for the test server, BTW.
When I test the full, 21-SCO course, it reads the first SCO fine and reports back 4.76% complete (100/21). But after that, it completes the other SCOs fine, but the scoring does not change.
Following the advice of some others in these forums, I made a test with some buttons to give the non-scoring, read-only SCO's point value. (1 point for each button). Then, the percentage scoring seems to read the percentage of only the slides accessed. So, for example, when it completes Slide 1 and moves to Slide 2, the percentage score reads 50 percent complete. But when it completes Slide 2 and moves to 3, it reads 66.7 percent complete.
Buttons are not a good solution for me anyway. The client wants the SCOs to flow one into another seamlessly, with no forced interactions.
All I want this to do is step percentage complete correctly for each slide.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

OK.  That makes a bit more sense.
The scoring that you speak of is really controlled in the LMS, not inside the Captivate modules.  All they do is report out to the LMS at the end of the module what the completion percentage or Pass/Fail score was for THAT PARTICULAR module, not for the entire course.  Each SCO is really a separate standalone object that just reports its own result.  It's up to the LMS to roll up the results for the overally course.
Each LMS is different and has different capabilities. So to have any chance of getting the result you want, you'll have to wait until you can work with the LMS that will eventually be used to deliver the content and then play around with the settings to see if it will allow some kind of cumulative scoring.

I can't get a Captivate file 4,041kb to publish, is the file too large?

If your publishing attempt is stalling at a given percentage, there may be something in your project which is preventing it from successfully completing.  There are a couple of possible solutions:
    1. Turn off all compression options under Preferences > Project  > SWF Quality.  Then try again.
    2. Hide slides in sections of your project and try republishing.  This process of elimination may help you to locate where the issue lies.

  • How big is my site? Could size cause publishing issues?

How can I find out if my site will fit in the available space on my mobileme prior to publishing? I had a site published, using a personal domain, prior to the conversion from .mac to mobileme. I recently made changes/additions to the site, and now it won't publish. I've double checked my forwarding and CNAME information and all seems to be correct. The site publishes to a folder without any problems, but not to mobileme, even when I use Publish All. Could the publishing issues be related to the size of the site?

I've been using Host Excellence for a number of years. Their reliability is good as is their tech support.
I particularly like the way I can name my own root folders and the ease and speed of registering a domain name and setting up a new site.
I wouldn't want to think about how big my latest site is getting.
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/ is built on ten different domain files for ease of updating and way quicker uploading. This is another approach you could consider.

  • Compatible issues in IE8

    Hi,
I just created this fairly simple site using muse and photoshop.
Once I almost finished I decided to export it to HTML so I could put it online and test it, just to be sure.
Everything seemed to be working very well in firefox and chrome.
Then a day later I figured I should check it in IE8 (XP).
At first it doesn't extend the header and footer to the browser width and text doesn't render correctly.
Everything else seems just fine, but there is a message in the browser:
To help protect your security, Internet Explorer restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer. Click here for options...
Of course I don't want to produce a website that display an error in the first place, but that could just be my computer (since I hardly ever use IE).
Next I choose to allow the blocked content and run the scripts and ActiveX controls.
It does fix the header and footer issue but it creates a new one. The transparancy on the (photoshop) buttons is bugged.
Up and over state work great, but the active state turns the alpha black. Strange thing is that the active and over state are the same layer/asset.
Is there a way to fix this instead of working around it and loosing the transparancy in photoshop? At the moment it's easy enough because of the plain white background, but I wanted to explore some background options for this project and who knows for future ones.
    Thanks for reading

    Hi,
As far as the header and footer is concerned, their width is governed by certain JS, so if the scripts are disabled on a browser then the 100% width may have issue in rendering properly.
As far as transparency is concerned, that is something which is a known issue with IE8 and how it handles the transparencies and the pngs images. Though Muse is designed to take care of that till some extent but there are cases where they may not render properly.
As a workaround I would suggest that instead of fading to transparent, fade to the color of the background, to give the same effect.

  • Captivate 5 SCORM 2004 3rd Edition ADL Testing Issues

I have published a project from Adobe Captivate 5 and am currently trying to get it through the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) 2004 3rd Edition Conformance Test Suite. I was able to pass the first part: the Content Package Conformance Test and solve the initial errors I was experiencing. However, I now have a new set of errors relating to the Sharable Content Object (SCO) Run-Time Environment (RTE) Conformance Utility Test. It appears that they all stem from:
ERROR: The Terminate() method was never successfully called.
Here is the detailed SCO test log:

ERROR: The SCO is SCO RTE 1.0 Non-conformant
The project is currently set to issue a completion status to the LMS after 22 slides have been viewed. Then the project should output the Quiz Results and Slide Views to the LMS. For Project End Options I have tried both: Stop Project and End Project. I haven't been able to find any other settings in Adobe Captivate that relate to this Terminate problem.
Can anyone give me some insight into what could be causing this error?

As I tested, Captivate really cannot support 3rd Edition.
I'm not sure what's the differences between 2nd and 3rd
    Edition, but I found that Articulate's '09 series (
    http://www.articulate.com/products/quizmaker-publishing.php)
    outputs these two editions separately.
I hope Capative could update the module to treat 3rd
    specially.

  • SCORM Publishing Issue

We are trying to publish a course organized as separate
daisy-chained files, so we can provide the user feedback on
interactions and quizzes throughout the course, to a single SCORM
2004 folder. Our question is, how do we publish the separate
project files into one zip file and load it into our SCORM player
so that the user's experience will be seamless as they move from
one project to the next within the same course? Or, how do we
generate multiple daisy-chained project files that use one Manifest
for SCORM purposes? We published separate project files (as Flash
outputs), zipped them and then tried to upload them to the SCORM
player. But it stopped uploading after the first project, we think
because it found a manifest file and stopped, as it can only take
    one manifest file per course.
    Whew, that was a mouthful.

    > Unfortunately, we have not yet resolved this issue. We
    are using a SCORM
    > player (vendor Rustici) that conforms to all SCORM 2004
    standards, including
    > sequencing.
Have heard/read good things about them, so I'll trust that's
    all true.
    > However, we still need to determine whether Captivate
    has the
    > ability to generate SCORM 2004 compatible sequencing

    > work, we believe because of the individual manifest
    files for each project. Is
    > there a way to create one manifest file for multiple,
    linked project files?
Captivate can't do this on its own but you're right (I'm
    pretty sure)
that this all has to be handled by one big custom manifest
    file..which
    you'll have to customize yourself.
There is a manifest builder extension for DW from the Adobe
    Exchange but
I don't know if it would help in this case.
Doesn't Rustici have some sort of Manifest Builder tool? Or I
    know I've
seen references to a couple others out there. A web search
    should reveal
    a tool that may help...
    > My understanding is that publishing the full course in
    one
    > project file in Captivate is not an option because I
    can't report back on all
    > the interactions & quizzes appropriately with the
    current set-up of the Review
    > Quiz function, and that a project file of this size
    would be problematic.
You should be able to report on all the interactions, though
    I agree
that trying to scatter a variety of quizzes throughout the
    lesson would
likely be a problem. CP seems to just work with one set quiz
    (though
I've not used that feature much). Regardless, you're
    definitely correct
that working with such a large CP file would probably bring
    headaches of
    its own.
    > So we
    > are trying to break each section into its own project
    file and daisy-chain
    > them. But if I cannot generate those files in a way that
    the SCORM 2004 player
    > can recognize and deploy, then I don't know what else to
    do.
I think you're on the right track with the manifest
    customization but
figuring that out is a chore in itself. Perhaps look at tools
    that
create such manifest during the publishing process to gain
    some insight
as to the structure? I believe Thesis (by HunterStone) does
    this when
    converting Office documents to SCOs.
Ultimately, you need to do something CP can't handle. So your
    best bet
is to either search for a 'manifest maker' tool, research the
    depths of
how to structure the manifest manually, hire out the process,
    or use a
    different tool.
    Wish I had better suggestions!

  • Javascript errors in Captivate 6 SCORM publish

When we published a Captivate 6 file to SCORM 1.2 and then tried to view the resulting htm file, we received 3 errors:
Invalid character in line 1 of SCORM_utlities.js
Invalid character in line 1 of Utilities.js
'CheckForDebugCommand' is undefined in line 19 of the htm file
This is our first venture into SCORM-land with a new LMS we're setting up so we're not sure how to address these issues. Any guidance?

Upload your SCORM package to SCORM Cloud LMS and see if you get the same errors from its log. If you do not, then go back to your LMS vendor and ask them why their LMS has an issue when the most SCORM compliant LMS on the planet doesn't.

  • Freezing issues in IE8 with scorm 1.2 captivate 6.1 export in moodle 2.5

    Hi
I am working for a large commercial company where we have IE8 and a moodle 2.5, i am exporting multible scorm 2.1 packages from captivate 6.1, the issue i am having is that the scorm content loads fine, then it gets too a screen that says loading, it then just sits there, we have waited hours and it never loads, the scorm package is flash based no HTML5 as this does not work with IE8, we have tried lots of different settings i have even removed the swf from the scorm package after export, replaced with an image, and updated the IMS manifest, this worked with no problems when re-zipped and uploaded, which makes me think its the swf file.
We have all the right flash plugins and can play a uploaded SWF with no issues, so i believe it is to do with the swf in the scorm package and how it calls on the appropriate plugins to run.
my question really is has anybody found themselves in the same situation, i cannot update IE8 to a newer version as this is a site wide company policy.
i have been through lots of threads that sound similar to the issue i have had but none had resolved.
    hopefully
    somebody can help me.
