Captivate 8: Edge Inspect not finding devices

Using Windows desktop computer running Windows 7 Ultimate and Captivate 8 and trying to preview in Edge Inspect. I have a MacBook Pro laptop booted to the Mac OS, and an iPhone, that are connected to my network. I know they are connected to my network because I'm able to browse and receive email on those devices.
The Edge Inspect plug in is installed in Chrome, but when I click the Edge Inspect icon in Chrome, I get a "Waiting for a connection..." message that never goes away, and the MacBook Pro and iPhone devices never appear.
There must be a place to specify which devices I want to preview. What do I need to do to preview at least my iPhone in Edge Inspect? (Once I know how to do that, I also want to preview the project on my iPad.)

I watched the Dr. Pooja video where she explains how to use Edge Inspect. Her instructions were at such a high level and lacking important details it made me wonder if she has ever used Edge Inspect with Captivate herself.

which explains in detail what needs to be done.
After following the instructions in the Edge Inspect Installation Guide, I was finally able to view my Captivate project on my iPhone.

    Hi Pieter,
    Sorry Edge Inspect doesn't work with the HP Slate 7. I'm not sure why it's not compatible... we don't control what devices are listed as compatible with Edge Inspect, we simply update the manifest file with the Android features we're using and the Android store decides which devices are or are not compatible based on the manifest file. We can't test on every possible device device out there, and the HP Slate is one we've never had a chance to try.
    One of the features we use that has caused problems with other devices in the past is location services (which we include because they might be required by pages users want to look at in Edge Inspect). Does your device support GPS/location services?
    Regardless, you might still be able to put Edge Inspect onto your device and give it a try to see if it will work despite what the Android store says. Check out this article on sideloading http://www.androidcentral.com/what-sideloading-android-z and see if that can help you out.
    Other than that, without knowing why the Android store is saying the Slate isn't compatible, there's nothing we can do on our side to try and make sure we're compatible with it.

    Contact the manufacturer's tech support for help. Most likely it needs a compatible driver.

  • Adobe Edge Inspect not syncing on ios devices?

    Just trialing Edge Inspect at work. It works excellently on my Galaxy SII, but it doesn't work so well on any ios devices we have in the office, including  ipads 1,2,3 and  iphones 4/4S/5 (running ios5 and 6). I can get the page to sync initially but it then refuses to follow my changes from Chrome forcing me to manually refresh the desktop client or the device... which makes the whole process a little frustrating.
    I'm wondering if it is possibly network related, but if so... why does it work so well on an Android device? It doesnt matter what site i look at, so i know its not a matter of page load.
    Any advice, further suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks for the response! Sorry for the delayed reply. I was waiting to be able to be near the same people again with the various iPhones but I haven't been able to hook up with them at this time. Probably later next week.

    To make sure I understand, you are connecting these devices to a server they are auto-discovering, right?
         Yes. Although, I had to manually put the IP into the older Kindle Fire and one of the other Android devices. I can't remember if it was the Galaxy Tab or Nexus 7 ( I believe it was the Nexus).
    You've got at least 8 other devices that you're not having any problems with?
    Yes.
    Do your iPhone 4 & 5 devices display any error when you try to connect?
    No errors
    Are you sure your devices are all on the same network as your computer?
    Yes. There are actually multiple networks. We tried switching to another network to no effect. This is after shutting down the app on Master and the slaved devices.
    Can you browse to a simple webpage like google.com and have the devices follow along, or do those devices not synch browse to ANY web pages?
    We didn't do the google test but we did go to another site. mrtestsite.com as well as azimba.com. Browsed multiple pages on each site.
    If it's only a specific web page, what's the URL of that page?

    Can you check your computer for any firewall software and make sure it's disabled?
    Didn't do that. Will try that again next time. Running it on the MacBook Air (10.7.5). Firewall is set to Limit Connections to Specific Devices and the EdgeInspect.applicaiton is set to Allow all Connections there.
    Can you try uninstalling from the iPhones, removing all the app data, and reinstalling?
    Did not do that. Will try. These were fresh installs from the app store.
    What version of iOS is running on each of those devices?
    Not sure. I'll check with them when I see them. Two of them are major tech heads so I'm pretty sure they're running the latest version of iOS for iPhone.
    The irony of this is that I was going to be demoing the Inspect tool at an LA tech job fair sponsored by Adobe so it would be nice to resolve this issue.

  • Edge Inspect not working for domain.dev URL's running locally on my laptop, displays error message.

    "An error occured
    Web page not availiable".
    This, printed on a white screen, on my iphone5 (OSX and iOS all running latest updates, latest Adobe Edge Inspect, freshly downloaded) is all I see when I try to visit any of the sites I run on my laptop with Apache.
    I set up my domains as "http://foobar.dev"  (where '.dev' is the TLD on my localhost for things ... local).
    I can view any public internet sites, and they will show up on Edge Inspect on my phone, with no problem.
    I've tested this with turning off the firewall on my computer... (but I'm surprised thats how edge works, but what ever).
    Any guides? tricks? help?

    Edge Inspect doesn't do anything different to read the website off your computer than a normal browser does. We send a URL to the connected devices and expect them to be able to load that address into the WebView/UIWebView components in the Edge Inspect app on the devices.The reason you're seeing an issue with Edge Inspect and your http://foobar.dev site is the same reason why you wouldn't/shouldn't expect to type that URL into a browser on another machine and be able to view the website... there's no external DNS server to talk to that knows where that address is actually located.
    So, Edge Inspect might be doing less than you thought is was in those terms. The main focus of Edge Inspect really is:
    1. Managing the connection from your computer to multiple connected devices
    2. Translating localhost, 127.0.0.1, and <machinename>.local urls
    3. Keeping multiple devices in sync
    4. Simplifying things like cache clearing and screenshots on all your devices
    5. Providing a simple interface into weinre for remote inspection
    Definitely read more on xip.io. It's a public website, yes. We don't have anything to do with it, but it does provide a nice workflow for using virtual hosts with Edge Inspect.

  • How does Edge Inspect emulate on device?

    I'm not asking how to hook everything up and get what I'm seeing on my desktop to show on my connected device. I've got that part down.
    Basically, I'm trying to decide between building a web app and building a hybrid app. For design and QA testing purposes, I'm trying to figure out how Edge Inspect is rendering the device. I know the Chrome extension has to be installed for this all to work, so is it displayed on the device with Chrome's rendering engine? Or is Edge Inspect tapping into the device's OS rendering?
    This matters because a web app would require testing on various mobile browsers for a consistent experience, but a hybrid app would require just testing on a few different OS that you choose to support. If Edge Inspect is emulating more like an app would, I will most likely go with a hybrid app. If not, I plan to try the web app route.

    Edge Inspect doesn't emulate. In both of our device clients we've built in the appropriate web components (WebView - Android / UIWebView - iOS) and display the web pages in those components.
    So, when you browse to a URL in Chrome, we grab that URL and send it to the connected devices. On the device we take the URL, tell the web component to browse to it and display it, and we do the injecttion of javascript for remote inspection, etc. Edge Inspect doesn't do any rendering, we leave it up to the web components. Mostly what the clients do is manage & remember the connection, handle commands from the Chrome extension, inject javascript, and take screenshots of the page.

  • LeagueAthl​etics app not finding Device ID to sign in

    I purchased the LeagueAthletics Mgr program (sports team management) and when I attempt to Log In it tells me that it cannot conntect.  Options to connect are BIS and WiFi.  In the authorziation step it fails.    I have been in contact with League Athletics and they are not finding a solution. 
    The app uses the blackbery PIN as the ID to log into the App and connect with the club site. For some reason the app is not locating the PIN.  There is an about screen on the APP that give a field for Device ID but the field is left blank.  I assume it is blocked or having issues locating the Device ID which sould be the PIN.  There is no way to manually edit this data or manually provide the Device ID. 
    I checked all my permissions and I can't find any options that would block an app from locating the PIN.  Anyone have any ideas on this??

    That is not verification email, that is security warning and if you didn't download it - you need to protect account. There are only two reasons for not receiving verification email
    1. your apple id is misspelled or different from email address that you used
    2. your email server blocks apple mail and/or puts is in junk/spam folder.

  • Edge inspect not working on VMware hosted iis sites.

    I use a Mac, and run Windows 7 on VMware Fusion (latest). I'm running a website in iis from .net 2010. Everything runs fine and displays in every browser.
    Even when I'm in Chrome/Safari on the Mac, I can view the site by going to the Windows IP address. However, when I'm running Edge Inspect it doesn't display the iis hosted site. It shows everything else.
    Does edge inspect support tunnelling through to a virtual host on a virtual machine?

    This is a scenario I don't think we've ever specfically tested. We know we can get to locally hosted web pages with Edge Inspect and we know we can also get to virtual host sites as well if you make use of xip.io or Charles Proxy

    You don't quite explicitly say it, but I'm guessing you've tried using the IP address in Chrome and Edge Inspect can't get to that, correct? Could you give xip.io a shot and see if that helps at all?
    Meanwhile I'll try checking with the team to see if anyone knows whether or not we can support your scenario.

  • Edge Inspect not available for download (mac)

    I've check the system requirements, and as far as I can tell I have what it takes. MBP i7, 8GB RAM, OSX 10.8.2. But Edge Inspect is not available for download/install neither in the creative cloud webpage, or in the application manager. Whyy?

    The issue should now be fixed. The direct link that you should be taken to for download is https://creative.adobe.com/inspect. From there click the Download button. Edge Inspect will not appear as an Install link in the Adobe Application Manager, you need to get it from the website.

  • Bluetooth not finding device

    ISSUE:
    I have the Satellite P75-A7200.  
    I am having an issue with Bluetooth recognizing or finding a device,
    I know the device is working becuause my old Windows 7 pc, tablet, and phone can all
    find and connect to the device.
    The Bluetooth on my P75-A7200 can detect my phone but not much else/
    WHAT'S BEEN DONE
     It is Windoss 8.1 and all of the updates have been installed.
    I have updated all of the Bluetooth drivers (3 times).

    Try uninstalling the bluetooth driver completely and doing a fresh install.  If that doesn't work, try restoring the computer to a time when the bt did work.  Do you get the little bt icon in the tray?

  • Media Sync not finding device?

    8330 running OS 4.3.0  IBM Thinkpad with Vista. I do synchronize with desk top media manager fine. when I open media sync it states that it failed to connect to my blackberry device.

    When connecting with media sync does the PC recognize the BB and open a window?
    If not, bring up desktop software and media sync together, and see if media sync sees the BB

  • IOS6 installation completes thru restoring firmware when one of two messages come up on iTunes screen:  could not find device, or could not be restored error -1.  Rep. at AT

    Down loaded iOS6 on iPhone 4S. When complete, screen showed usb cable end with arrow to iTunes logo.  Brought up iTunes on computer screen.  OS Windows XP, computer on wi-fi.  After connecting phone to computer, ITunes screen showed name: Phone, capacity: n/a, software version n/a, serial no: n/a.  Under Version, check for update: Your iPhone software is up to date.  Serial no., etc. had previously appeared on iTunes screen in the the past before I attempted the iOS6 download.  Clicked on restore.  ITunes showed extracting software.  Message came up, could not be restored, error 1656.  Took computer and phone AT&T.  Rep contacted Apple Support - as directed rep reinstalled iTunes.  Clicked on restore again, went through extracting software, then into loading software - loading bar showed on iTunes screen and phone screen.  Was almost complete when message came up on computer - device could not be found.  By then ATT store closed.  Tried to restore at home.  Got as far as as restoring firmware, phone screen was showing loading on bar.  Message came up - could not be restored, error -1.    ATT rep said several other customers contacted him with the same problem.    Nearest Apple store to me is 95 mi. away.  Any on line help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    Additional comment from Carl 37: Phone is locked up with screen showing usb cable end with arrow to iTunes logo.  What can I do to regain use of phone?

  • Airport Express Detection (Not finding devices)

    I have an Airport Extreme and two (2) Airport Express devices. I recently did the firmware update for the Airport Extreme and now my (2) Airport Express devices are not being detected.
    Is there something I am doing wrong, is there somewhere I need to look to begin detection? It used to be automatic.

    When you reset the AirPort Extreme, this caused a communication loss with the AirPort Express devices, so the network is likely out of sequence.
    If you have not already done so, perform a complete power cycle on the entire network.
    Power off everything on the network....all devices...power down order is not important
    Wait a minute
    Start the modem first and let it run a minute by itself
    Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    Start each AirPort Express one at a time the same way
    Start other devices one at a time the same way until everything is powered back up
    Check the network
    If the Express devices still are not connecting, you will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on each Express and then reconfigure it again.

    I have considered using the new 30gb IPod as a paperweight, frisbee, or kindling ever since Christmas... my computer has been subject to similar consideration... the number of hours spent on trying to get this thing to work has been unbelievable. I finally started tracking the suggestions on this board, and eventually got ITUNES to stop going belly-up at the end of the install. After several attempts at downloading the usbstor files (and getting XP to recognize them), my IPOD now works!!!
    Thanks to all the posts on this board that have allowed me to be the hero to my daughter! It's still not working entirely as expected, but songs are making to the IPOD... baby steps.

    Are the songs that your iPod is skipping all purchased from iTunes (protected AAC files)? If that is the case, you just have to plug your iPod into Mac (the one you use most frequently with iTunes store), do an "update iPod" in iTunes (in case it doesn't just happen automatically) and those songs should be playable again. I have a similar issue, and I think it's just because the songs are protected and have to be authorised every few days by your computer. Presumably so that if someone finds/steals your iPod, these songs will be useless to them soon.
