Captivate and presenter

Hi,
I am having a problem when I import an swf file (made with
captivate) to presenter. It comes up by default for only 5 secs
then goes onto the next side. If with swf file is 10 ins it get cut
off. Any ideea how I can control this or how I should be importing
a swf file?

Hi cybereducation:
In the Presenter file add-in menu, go to the audio editor and
insert>silence for the slide that contains the .swf file for the
length of the .swf file.

  • Difference between captivate and presenter

    HI, what's the difference between Adobe captivate and
    presenter. Do they both do the same? Which one is better for use in
    creating online training modules?

    It took me a while to "get it" too. Yoiu can take a look at
    Adobe's spin on things from the blog site maintained by Silke
    Fleicher from Adobe at:
    Sike Fleicher
    Blog
    But the real truth of this is that they are quite different:
    -Captivate Excels at computer software simulations, software
    demos and software learning simulations (where the user gets to try
    a simulation test.)
    -Captivate is a stand-alone application and not an add-in to
    powerpoint
    -Captivate does let you import PowerPoint slides
    -Captivate creates a stand-alone CP file to store your setups
    and then you publish to Flash, Word, Acrobat
    -Captivate does not produce a side-panel to show progress,
    but it does provide a wide range of progress bars and related
    forward and back button options and positions
    -Presenter is an add-in to PowerPoint
    -Presenter has an optional navigation panel to show progress,
    but it has limited forward and back navigation button options.
    -Presenter is more like PowerPoint, but you gain Quiz sets or
    single Quiz options and the ability to integrate and embed Flash
    content such as Captivate SWF files as a slide set. For example you
    can have a PowerPointesque look with a navigation pane on the left
    or right and then present the user with a video or software
    simulation on another slide and then Quiz the user about the
    materials or demo.
    I would consider Presenter to be about as hard as learning
    how to use PowerPoint, but all of the options are now on one menu.
    I would consider Captivate to be about as hard as learning to
    use Excel, where the basics are easy, but there are many options.
    For Software demos and simulations, Captivate is the better
    choice.
    For Quiz-Enabled PowerPoint, Presenter 7 is the better choice
    For e-learning of Software, you can use juset Captivate, but
    both products make a good team
    Finally, while Adobe charges a bit too much $$$$ for each,
    the cost is recouped with the time you save on a large project. If
    the products were 1/2 of the list price, they would probably sell
    10X the number of copies and create some real BUZZ about these
    products for the group of people that are not e-learning
    professionals (a huge group).
    The final piece is a system that integrates the Quiz results
    for user login and score tracking. Known as a Learning Management
    System (LMS). Both Presenter 7 and Captivate export to Adobe's
    Connect system in Connect format and they also publish to SCORM or
    AICC formats used by other systems. However, the cost of the
    Connect system for LMS (not the live presentation piece, just the
    e-learning piece) is well beyond reach for a small company (about
    3X the price of other products). The 40% annual maintenance fee
    charges, limited feature set and slow to fix it support make
    Connect about a grade "C" compared to the competition. Adobe can do
    far better to make Connect the LMS tool that it could be in terms
    of features, price and bug repairs. So if you need a LMS to go with
    this, then you should certainly look at Connect and price it (it is
    nice), but look at what you could get elsewhere for both features
    and support at a given price point.

  • Is it possible to "convert" a PPT/Presenter file to Captivate and retain the audio, video, etc.?

    Hi - I'm wondering if someone has done this or can recommend the best way to do this.
    We have a PPT/Presenter file that was created using PPT 2010 and Presenter 9. We recorded audio for the training right in Presenter and have also imported videos into the file using Presenter.
    We need to output the file to DVD to actually play on a DVD player. We know we can do that with Captivate (we are using Captivate 5) and are wondering if there is a way to take our file (the package so to speak) and get that to open in Captivate and retain all of the pieces that we have added to it (audio, video, hyperlinks).
    Or, alternatively, if there is a way to publish our Presenter file to DVD format, that would work for us too.
    Thank you for any information or suggestions!
    Emily

    Hi Emily,
    Presenter contents and captivate contents are different. but you can achieve it using the following steps in presenter.
    1. Open you presentation.
    2. GO to Adobe Presenter>>Publish .Publish dialog will open.
    3. Check the CD package checkbox and publish the content.
    4. Now Goto the publish folder and burn the content on DVD.
    After successfull Burn, You can play on DVD player.
    I hope this will work  for you. Kindly let me know if you are facing any problem.
    Thanks,

    how do i load a captivate 6 presentation into moodle 2

    Hi Macot, Here is the solution for your question.
    First you need to Publish your Captivate 6 presentation into SCORM 1.2.
    Then compress it into zip format and create a new course in Moodle.
    Add SCORM activity to it and upload the zip file.
    Here is a webinar that you may find it helpful to you. Have a look on it.

  • Interaction with Captivate within Presenter

    I have an interactive Captivate (swf) file that I'm trying to get to work in Presenter. I have imported the file (which works great stand-alone) amd checked the box in the "Manage Flash" option. However, Presenter ignores the interaction and plays the cp file straight through without stopping/waiting for the learner to click on the item to go ahead.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Adobe Presenter 7.07 was released last week in conjunction with Adobe Connect 8.1.2 as well as Captivate 5.5. All three now are AS3 based and fix this very complex issue.
    You can download the full Presenter 7.07 from the Adobe Presenter page...notice right side where there is a link for existing customers to download a trial version...just use your Presenter 7 license when asked:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/presenter/
    Adobe Connect 8.1.2 is being rolled out the next two weekends and on-premise customers can download the code here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/911/cpsid_91151.html
    Adobe Captivate 5.5 has been released for awhile and was the first to move to AS3. Now all are in sync. Suggest running all previous content in Presenter or Captivate and then uploading again. That would convert any AS2 issues to AS3.

  • Captivate and Articulate

    Hello,
    I created 2 sets of questions in Captivate using images and
    roll-overs and correct and incorrect feedback. The first set has 3
    questions, T/F, multiple choice and matching. The second set has 2
    questions a multiple choice, and matching. I have the submit and
    next buttons on the question. I used these questions last year in a
    course that was published in Articulate and uploaded to our LMS
    (Cornerstone) and I had no problems.
    This year we revised the current course, I made text changes
    to the questions in Captivate and published. After I import these
    into Articulate, you can not see the corrective feedback text when
    you select the correct answer, the incorrect feedback text will
    always display even when you select the correct answer. I used the
    Import .swf in Articulate to display in presenter window. If I
    import and display in a new window, thew question works.
    I am baffled to what has changed that would prevent the
    correct feedback from displaying. Anyone ever hear of this and have
    any suggestions on how to fix this or what I should be looking at
    to fix this?

    You say nothing about the version of Captivate used to create
    the courses. Obviously, "last year" indicates that either Captivate
    1.0 or 1.0.1 was used, but it's rather important to know which. The
    implicaiton of "this year" indicates you upgraded to Captivate 2.0
    - is that correct?
    Pending replies to the above, it occurs to me that the
    problem does have to do with conversion of the original files -
    specifically some branching seems to have gone awry. Let us know
    what version of Captivate you used originally - and which you are
    using now. Might not hurt to include the same info on the version
    of Articulate Presenter being used.
    Thanks.

  • Having someone else record audio in Captivate 5 presentation

    Does anyone know how I have someone else record on an captivate 5 presentation if they don't Captivate? I have created online training and I need it translated. They do not need to publish, or create the presentation - they just need to record audio. I had the functionality in Adobe Presenter and I am hoping that it exists in Captivate 5. - Please help!

    Welcome to our community
    Generally speaking, they can just watch your finished Captivate presentation and use an audio recording application such as Audacity, SoundBooth or other to record the narration. Then they supply that back to you as one or more WAV or MP3 files. You then insert those files into your Captivate projects and re-publish.

  • Using Captivate AND video?

    We're doing a monthly meeting that involves a lot of on
    screen demos, as well as a presenter and questions from the
    audience. The room is fully video equipped, however, it's lousy at
    recording the screen due to the resolution and lighting of the
    projector.
    I'd like to capture all on-screen action and presenter audio
    via Captivate, and then record the meeting with the video in
    addition. Is there a practical way to then maybe add the video to
    the captivate presentation? Maybe as an FLV in a small 'picture in
    picture' type of window?

    Hi darreldarrel
    I'm guessing you might be able to accomplish it by recording
    the Captivate and publishing to create one .SWF. Then create a
    second Captivate that is larger than the first. This one could
    become a "one slide wonder".
    Insert the first Captivate into the second. Then insert the
    video and position as desired. I'm thinking this may create the PiP
    effect you could be looking to achieve.
    Keep in mind that it's just theory at this point. I've not
    tested it. There could be issues I've not considered by using this
    approach.

  • Playbar with Adobe Connect and Presenter

    Hello, i am a new user of Captivate and Connect Pro solution.
    I would like to know if it's possible to keep the playbar control
    after publishing the Captivate project and importing it into Adobe
    Presenter as a flash animation ?
    My problem is that i am not able to control my FLV animation
    through the Presenter publication... i know that the playbar is in
    the "_skin.flv" file published by Captivate but even if can see the
    playbar in Presenter, it's like it is not "linked" to the main FLV
    animation (i mean that playbar buttons have no effect on the
    animation...).
    Thanks a lot for your appreciate help.

    I just find the solution on the forum, just have to
    deactivate "border" on my project... just perfect.

  • New development in Flash Captivate and Content Management

    My compay currently uses Serena Collage for Content
    Management along with Macromedia Studio MX 2004 for web site
    development. We have an upcoming e-learning project that we are
    considering developing in Captivate and Flash. We are mandated that
    all development be Section 508 compliant and e-learning must be
    SCORM compliant as well.
    Can I continue to use Collage to manage content developed
    from Captivate and Flash or will I have to use a different product?
    According to documentation Captivate SCORM and 508 compliant and is
    Flash 508 compliant is this correct?
    Please advise.

    I am not familiar with Collage or its requirements, but Flash
    MX 2004 is 508 compliant, I have had to make partial and full
    compliant courses with it. That being said, it took us a decent
    amount of time and effort.

  • Report in new page does not know of session and presentation variables

    I have a question about GOURL.
    I am using GOURL as a column function in one report (report A), so that when i click on that column it takes me to another report(report B) that open in new popup window.
    the first report (A) also uses some session and presentation variables, which is also used by Report B as filters. I am curious that if I add these filters which are using variables to report B, why can't report B get the value of these, (it just errors out ) because it didn't found any value to those variables in the filter.
    Becuase I am ending up with passing all these variables in GOURL and setting them as 'isprompted'.
    Does this report (B) knows nothing else than what it finds in GOURL?
    thanks

    In a nutshell, if u use gourl then its parameters will be only using in navigated report. This is functionality

  • Retrieving data from an ArrayList and presenting them in a JSP

    Dear Fellow Java Developers:
    I am developing a catalogue site that would give the user the option of viewing items on a JSP page. The thing is, a user may request to view a certain item of which there are several varieties, for example "shirts". There may be 20 different varieties, and the catalogue page would present the 20 different shirts on the page. However, I want to give the user the option of either viewing all the shirts on a single page, or view a certain number at a time, and view the other shirts on a second or third JSP page.
    See the following link as an example:
    http://www.eddiebauer.com/eb/cat_default.asp?nv=2|21472|9&tid=&c=&sc=&cm_cg=&lp=n2f
    I am able to retrieve the data from the database, and present all of them on a JSP, however I am not sure how to implement the functionality so that they can be viewed a certain number at a time. So if I want to present say 12 items on a page and the database resultset brings back 30 items, I should be able to present the first 12 items on page1, the next 12 items on page2, and the remaining 6 items on page3. How would I do this? Below is my scriplet code that I use to retrieve information from the ArrayList that I retrieve from my database and present them in their entirety on a single JSP page:
    <table>
    <tr>
    <%String product=request.getParameter("item");
    ArrayList list=aBean.getCatalogueData(product);
    int j=0, n=2;
    for(Iterator i=list.iterator(); i.hasNext(); j++){
    if(j>n){
    out.print("</tr><tr>");
    j=0;
    Integer id=(Integer)i.next();
    String name=(String)i.next();
    String productURL=(String)i.next();
    out.print("a bunch of html with the above variables embedded inside")
    %>
    </tr>
    </table>
    where aBean is an instace of a JavaBean that retrieves the data from the Database.
    I have two ideas, because each iteration of the for loop represents one row from the database, I was thinking of introducing another int variable k that would be used to count all the iterations in the for loop, thus knowing the exact number. Once we had that value, we would then be able to determine if it was greater than or less than or equal to the maximum number of items we wanted to present on the JSP page( in this case 12). Once we had that value would then pass that value along to the next page and the for loop in each subsequent JSP page would continue from where the previous JSP page left off. The other option, would be to create a new ArrayList for each JSP page, where each JSP page would have an ArrayList that held all the items that it would present and that was it. Which approach is best? And more importantly, how would I implement it?
    Just wondering.
    Thanks in advance to all that reply.
    Sincerely;
    Fayyaz

    -You said to pass two parameters in the request,
    "start", and "count". The initial values for "start"
    would be zero, and the inital value for "count" would
    be the number of rows in the resultSet from the
    database, correct?Correct.
    -I am a little fuzzy about the following block of code
    you gave:
    //Set start and count for next page
    start += count; // If less than count left in array, send the number left to next next page
    count = ((start*3)+(count*3) < list.size()) ? (count) : ((list.size() - (start*3))/3)
    Could you explain the above block of code a little
    further please?Okay, first, I was using the ternary operators (boolean) ? val_if_true : val_if_false;
    This works like an if() else ; statement, where the expression before the ? represents the condition of the if statement, the result of the expression directly after the ? is returned if the condition is true, and the expression after the : is returned if the condition is false. These two statments below, one using the ternary ? : operators, and the other an if/else, do the same thing:
    count = ((start*3)+(count*3) < list.size()) ? (count) : ((list.size() - (start*3))/3);
    if ((start*3)+(count*3) < list.size()) count = count;
    else count = ((list.size() - (start*3))/3);Now, why all the multiplying by 3s? Because you store three values in your list for each product, 1) the product ID, 2) the product Name, and 3) the product URL. So to look at the third item, we need to be looking at the 9th,10th, and 11th values in the list.
    So I want to avoid an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds error from occuring if I try to access the List by an index greater than the size of the list. Since I am working with product numbers, and not the number of items stored in the list, I need to multiply by three, both the start and count, to make sure their sum does not exceed the value stored in the list. I test this with ((start*3)+(count*3) < list.size()) ?. It could have been done like: ((start + count) * 3 < list.size()) ?.
    So if this is true, the next page can begin looking through the list at the correct start position and find the number of items we want to display without overstepping the end of the list. So we can leave count the way it is.
    If this is false, then we want to change count so we will only traverse the number of products that are left in the list. To do this, we subtract where the next page is going to start looking in the list (start*3) from the total size of the list, and devide that by 3, to get the number of products left (which will be less then count. To do this, I used: ((list.size() - (start*3))/3), but I could have used: ((list.size()/3) - start).
    Does this explain it enough? I don't think I used the best math in the original post, and the line might be better written as:
    count = ((size + count)*3 < list.size()) ? (count) : ((list.size()/3) - start);All this math would be unnecessary if you made a ProductBean that stored the three values in it.
    >
    - You have the following code snippet:
    //Get the string to display this same JSP, but with new start and count
    String nextDisplayURL = encodeRedirectURL("thispage.jsp?start=" + start + "&count=" + count + "&item=" + product);
    %>
    <a href="<%=nextDisplayURL%>">Next Page</a>
    How would you do a previous page URL? Also, I need to
    place the "previous", "next" and the different page
    number values at the top of the JSP page, as in the
    following url:
    http://www.eddiebauer.com/eb/cat_default.asp?nv=2|21472
    9&tid=&c=&sc=&cm_cg=&lp=n2f
    How do I do this? I figure this might be a problem
    since I am processing the code in the middle of the
    page, and then I need to have these variables right at
    the top. Any suggestions?One way is to make new variable names, 'nextStart', 'previousStart', 'nextCount', 'previousCount'.
    Calculate these at the top, based on start and count, but leave the ints you use for start and count unchanged. You may want to store the count in the session rather than pass it along, if this is the case. Then you just worry about the start, or page number (start would be (page number - 1) * count. This would be better because the count for the last page will be less than the count on other pages, If we put the count in session we will remember that for previous pages...
    I think with the details I provided in this and previous post, you should be able to write the necessary code.
    >
    Thanks once again for all of your help, I really do
    appreciate the time and effort.
    Take care.
    Sincerely;
    Fayyaz
