Captivate Bookmarking Issue - Returns to Wrong Slide!

I have a Captivate course with over 270 slides divided into 7 sections. There are 3-4 quiz questions at the end of each section with a score page on the second last page.
when through the course and exiting, bookmarking works until you get around half way through, at which point bookmarking returns me to a slide about halfway through the course. Ive made various version trying to rectify this, and at times it was a quiz slide, other times a standard slide. I tried moving all the quiz questions to the end of the course, and bookmarking would return me to a specific quiz slide each time. This bookmarking issue would appear when I existed the course after not completing it, or completing it and failing the quiz. Has anyone experienced this or got an idea what might be causing this?

What version of SCORM are you publishing to?
The bookmarking info is held in the suspend data, along with quiz info and all variables in the project. It could be that the suspend data has reached it's limit. Or it just can't handle that many slides.
There are ways to manipulate the bookmarking in CP as I wrote in this blog:
http://www.tlcmediadesign.com/blog/2015/01/controlling-captivate-bookmarking/
This probably won't help your situation though. Depending on the SCORM version you can use the comments field to store info and use that to bookmark.
With a project of that size and depending on the info you need to tract/save, it would be best to connect a non-Captivate SCORM driver and make a SCORM calls yourself..
Or you can split the course into 7 separate SCO's to reduce the suspend data.

  • Captivate Bookmarking Issue

We have developed a WBT using captivate 2.0. This WBT is
published as SCORM 1.2 complaint. But while testing it on ADL Test
Suit and on Sample RTE, we have observed that, the data was sent
only on some slides. That is why, course is not bookmarking
properly. We had also gone through the captivate slides, but there
is no such difference in the slides where data is send and the
rest. We want every slide should bookmark. Could you please guide
    us in resolving this issue?
    Thanks..

I think in Captivate 2, the lesson sends the latest data on
    each and
every screen. Why that would NOT happen, I don't know. If
    anyone there
has any javascript experience, you can see all the JS
    functions in the
parent HTML file. Perhaps you can add alerts in those
    scripts, if you
can decipher them, and determine if data actually is or is
    not being
    sent on each page change.
I don't know of any way to demand that the Captivate file
    send data at a
    given...

  • Captivate 7 issue for refresh the slide

    have trouble refreshing slide:
The set of actions that I use work well when the course is viewed for flash output however the same when viewed on Ipad do not work and vice versa.
Would the actions to work when publishing for both .swf and html5 output.
We are using a cpCmndGoToSlide to cpInfoLastVisitedSlide which works fine with Flash based build but not in HTML version when we exported the build for both.
There are some other instance which we have found weird in Captivate7. some method that we used to assign in the action works for flash but not for html build eg. execute a javascript method, jump to the current slide. etc.
Need help with reload slide, please suggest a work around.

    Set:
    cpCmndPlaybarMoved to true
    cpCmndGotoSlide to cpInfoCurrentSlide - 1
    cpCmndResume to 1

  • Captivate 6 Issue - Faded Objects on Slide

    Hello!
I inserted a widget into a slide.  When I preview the project, the whole slide is "faded".  I have tried bringing the widget to the front, I have tried to send the smart shape to the back.  Nothing seems to be working.  Here is a screenshot:
    http://ttastudents.com/Screen%20Shot%202013-11-05%20at%2010.02.56%20AM.png
    Any ideas?

If this widget is an interactive widget, have you perhaps forgotten that interactive widgets have a pause point that is not shown on the timeline?  Look in the Properties tab > Timing accordion to see when the widget is set to pause the timeline.  The default is at 1 second into the slide. Perhaps your widget is pausing the timeline when other objects are still fading in?

  • Captivate Displays Wrong Slide Note

I’ve been experimenting as to why Captivate slide notes
sometimes seem to change at random. Since I use the notes to hold
audio transcriptions, it was a nasty surprise to find lots of them
overwritten with notes from other slides. It seems that both
Captivate versions 2 and 3 mishandle slide notes when you switch to
Branching view with a slide other than slide 1 selected, though V3
is somewhat better behaved. If this is old news – I’m
two weeks with Captivate and still in the steep part of the
learning curve – then I plead being a newbie.
I’ve considered two workarounds: putting the notes into
closed captions – which aren’t affected by this but are
hard to see at a glance unless I export them to Word – or
always remembering to select slide 1 in Storyboard before jumping
    to Branching.
I assume that this isn’t restricted to my two
pc’s (both WinXP SR2) and may help explain several posts
describing slide notes being changed. So, has anyone else found
additional explanations for why slide notes are unstable? Better
yet, does anyone know of a fix? This always remembering business
seems most unlikely – for me at least.
Here are the details of what I’ve discovered so far.
Captivate V2 – selecting a slide other than slide 1 in
Storyboard view and then switching to Branching view overwrites the
selected slide’s note with slide 1’s note. If the
selection contains more than one slide, the highest numbered slide
in the selection is overwritten. If slide 1 doesn’t have a
note, the “click to add notes for the selected slide”
message is displayed as the note for the selected slide. If you do
not click in the note, the note remains intact. If you do click,
the note is overwritten. So, beware of jumping between Storyboard
to rearrange slides and Branching to edit paths because
you’ll probably trash your notes. That’s how I wrecked
    havoc.
Captivate V3 trial version – selecting a slide other
than slide 1 in Storyboard or Edit view then switching to Branching
view improperly displays the selected slide’s note (you see
slide 1’s note) but does not overwrite the selected
slide’s note. However if you edit the improperly displayed
note in Branching view, the original note is overwritten. So, in V3
leaving the notes box collapsed will probably prevent problems
since you won’t notice the error and inadvertently make it
permanent. Seems like a reason to upgrade, even though it’s a
bit thin, being the lesser of two evils.

  • Captivate 5.5 - How to return back to slide after YouTube clip?

I have a button on a slide which launches a YouTube clip, how do i get it to automatically return to the slide when the clip finishes?
Keep it simple please - I am new to this!!

    Hello again
That's a tough nut to crack. When you open a new window, unless you are using JavaScript to do it, you really don't have any control over what happens with it. I suppose there *MIGHT* be something you could do with JavaScript to sense when the movie has completed. I'm not sure if that's even possible. But if it is, it would be somehing you would have to resort to JavaScript to accomplish. And that's far beyond the scope of what I'm able to tell you or even what this forum is designed to help with. Sorry
Best of luck to you in finding a good solution! Rick

  • Captivate 6 issue with quiz remediation

    Hi,
    I have below scenario,
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
quiz slide: In the quiz slide if user enters correct answer it should take to the next slide, if user enters wrong answer should go back to Slide 3 to review the content. After review should be able to take quiz again.
    slide 4
    slide 5
Currently issue is when user enters wrong answer, he is redirected to slide 3 for review but when he comes back to quiz slide submit button is disabled. i tried several options like adding click interaction on slide 3 and including this as part of quiz scope. nothing worked. Please help me out to resolve this issue.
    Thanks,
    Krishna

Captivate 6 includes a new feature called Return to Quiz.
You can set the On Last Attempt action on the Quiz slide to jump to your remediation slide (3).  You can place a button on that slide labelled as Next and set its action as Return to Quiz.  The first time the user passes through that remediation slide, the button action defaults to Continue.  But if you returned to that slide from a failed question slide, then on clicking the button again it would jump you back to the question slide you just failed, and the user would be given another attempt at the question.
I'm not personally in favour of this particular 'feature' because it basically means the user can loop around as many times as they want until they get the question correct.  In my view this isn't great instructional design.
But it might be good enough for what you want.

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
☞ Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
☞ In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
☞ What is the Modified date?
If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • Record narration in Powerpoint 2013 with returns to previous slides

    Hi,
I am trying to record narration on a Powerpoint slide show  (Powerpoint 2013). However I discovered that I can go only forward with slides. When I return to a previous slide the audio simply overwrites the narration of the first visit to the slide.
I s there any way to have Powerpoint store multiple audio segments and the timing on returning to previous slides ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Could you please tell me how do you record narration in PowerPoint 2013? Do you use record slide show from Slide Show?
If yes, it records narration on each slide not by time. This is why you return to a previous slide the audio simply overwrites the narration of the first visit to the slide.
For more reference about record slide show:

    Hi eddinchina,
You should have no need to use the Old Sync account.
As long as device or devices are Firefox 29 or later (They should all be Firefox 30 now) you should use the New Sync.
You may use the same email address with both accounts.

  • Converting to .PDF bookmark issue

Bookmark issue:  I am writing this for another user.  I am not familiar with InDesign but have analyzed the issue.  Version of InDesign: CS3 v5.0 version of Acrobat: 8 v8.1.3 version of Page Maker: 7 v7.0.1  The user creates an InDesign document with several 'chapters' of content.  The structure of the document   looks like the following where an X represents an entire chapter and a B represents a subsection of the   chapter.  X1   B1   B2   B3 X2   B4   B5   B6 X3   B7   B8   B9  The user then creates bookmarks for each chapter and subsection.  The bookmarks have a parent/child   relationship between X and B, respectively.  The same structure seen above is the structure the bookmark   tree takes on.  When the user goes about creating the file as a PDF, an odd issue occurs.  All of the bookmarks work except   B2, B4, and B7.  B2, B4, and B7 point to B1 even though they pointed to the appropriate locations in   InDesign.  Obviously, the appropriate settings are toggled to pull the bookmarks across to Acrobat.  Something isn't   quite right, and I want to figure out where the issue lies.  Things to consider: The InDesign files were migrated over from Page Maker files.  Anybody have any clue.  Any further information needed? --

I add bookmarks to my ID files on a daily basis and hardly ever found a fault with it. As far as I can tell, they appear exactly in the same tree hierarchy in the PDF as created in ID.
... The InDesign files were migrated over from Page Maker files. ...
may be a clue. ID may leave some rubbish in its files, and that rarely (for me, at least) may lead to otherwise unexplainable errors. Perhaps the PM import was not as 'clean' as you'd hope. Try this: export the file to INX and re-load it (you should use the "Open.." command for this). Check if the bookmarks display correctly in their little panel; then try the exporting to PDF again.
Are you sure about the sub-version number? 5.0 is an original, unpatched version, and a number of issues have been fixed -- I think the most up to date version would be 5.0.3 (don't quote me on that, check the updates!). It's not that I remember this issue from the updates, but you never know.

Which version of 6? Check the slide quality, if it is at Low, push it to High or Optimized. Then uncheck all compression settings in Preferences, Project, SWF Size and Quality.

  • Captivate Loading Issue

    Hi,
I want to implement a loading scheme, where unless and until
entire captivate file (.swf) or all the slides in the captivate
file are loaded, the skin file or the navigation elements present
on the skin should not be visible.
The problem here is, sometimes even if the captivate swf file
is not loaded completly, users are trying to keep on clicking the
play/pause/slider button. Can that be avoided.

Open one of the preloaders in Flash and change it to 100%.
I understand that should prevent the file from appearing
    until it is
    fully downloaded.

  • Issues with getting the slide button to work after upgrade to iOS 7.02 and 7.03

Ever since upgrading to iOS 7.02 and 7.03 having issues with getting the slide button to work to open up iPad 2.  Happened last week and was able to restore it to new and get it to work again and it worked great until one week later (this morning) doing the same thing.  Have tried restoring iPad to new 3 times (via itunes) and still unable to get the slide button to move so can use the iPad.  IPad able to charge, able to restore, able to sync with itunes even able to recover but not able to get past first screen where you have to slide to access iPad.  Any help would be greatly appeciated.  Live about 300 miles from nearest Apple store.

I am beginning to wonder whether there isn't some weird problem with that Home button.
Try this: Settings > General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch = On
This will place a button on the iPad's screen.
You can move this button anywhere on the screen.
This button gives you - amongst many other things - a soft Home button.
To turn your iPad on, you can use the Sleep/wake button or move a small magnet across the bezel of the iPad where the volume controls are.
If you use the magnet, then: Settings > General > Lock / Unlock = On
Now should not need to press the Home button anymore.
If this method allows you to use your iPad without a hitch, then suspect hardware problems with the Home button.
