CAPTIVATE CPTX TO EXE FILE

I NEED TO PUBLISH AND EMAIL A CPTX PROJECT BY PUBLISHING IT IN EXE. THIS IS TESTING FOR A JOB APPLICATION USING YOUR CAPTIVATE PRODUCTS,
BUT THE TRIAL VERSION WON'T LET ME DO THAT.

Hi there
As Lilybiri said, you typically work in Captivate with a raw file. Consider it to being similar to mixing ingredients for a cake in a mixing bowl. The baked cake is the EXE file you are seeking. To "bake" the cake, you perform a publish. Now you may be thinking of Publish as many web developers do. The act of copying content from one place to another. In Captivate, Publish is like compiling in other applications. So try clicking File > Publish and you should then see another dialog that allows you to "bake the cake".

  • Mac opening exe. files with Captivate 5

I am a Mac user and need to open exe. files from my lecturer. I have got Captivate 5 and have updated it with the patch BUT nothing I seem to do enables me to open the files. Can anyone please help?

    Hello,
MAC will not open .exe files as .app is the extension for MAC Executable files, or if you want to install an application on MAC, you can use .dmg format
    Thanks

  • How to import .exe files into Captivate

I have some Flash .exe files that I want to import into
Captivate so I can combine the files....and also so I can choose
the properties for the files (for example, either to run on a loop
or also to take to a website upon completion).
So, how do I import .exe files into Captivate?

    Hi Steve
Unless you can find some sort of a converter out on the web,
I think you are out of luck. I am aware of the SoThink SWF
    decompiler (
    http://www.sothink.com/product/flashdecompiler
) but I'm somewhat doubtful it will work on .EXE files. Perhaps it
    will.

  • Published EXE file Error-Adobe captivate 4

    Hi,
I'm having problems with publishing an EXE file in Adobe captivate 4. I know it has something to do with our internet browser settings, we are a Court location and we have strict settings, but I'm wondering if there are work arounds through adobe captivate. See error below:
-allowing active content such as script and ActiveX controls can be useful, but active content might also harm your computer. Are you sure you want to let this file run active content? Y/N
-Help protect security, internet explore has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer, click here for options.
If you just select yes and proceed the captivate file runs fine and you can complete the training. Our goal is to be able to publish in this format because it's more stable than the PDF or HTML option but we don't want users to experience this error from the start.
Thanks for helping with my questions!
    Libby

Hi, I've been trying to attach an image for the error message we get but not matter what I do it gives me an error and won't let me attach the image. Any suggestions or do you have an email I can send them too. The error message may be a little different than what I sent previously, it seems to give a different error message on different computers. But we are currently trying to create a new release of our training program so this should be the most current error message and the error message people will see when they open it on their PC's. Anyway this is what it says:
    First Error Message:
    File Download-Security Warning
Do you want to run or save this file?
Name: BasicCORIS_AttachAnAttorney.exe (name of our file)
    Type: Application, 9.27MB
    From: C:/CourtsOnlineTraining\Program Files\Dist....
Run     Save     Cancel (we select run, than you get next error message)
While files from the Internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you do not trust the source, do not run or save this software. What's the risk?
    Second Error Message:
    Internet Explorer- Security Warning
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?
    Name: BasicCORIS_AttachAnAttorney.exe
    Publisher: Unknown Publisher
    Run    Don't Run
This file does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher. You should only run software from publishers you trust. How can I decide what software to run?
I hope this makes sense. Let me tell you a little more about how our training is set up. We load the training on to a USB stick that includes a menu, the training modules, and a shortcut. Once the USB is downloaded on to the users PC they can select a shortcut icon for the training. Once they select the training shortcut it opens a menu that they can select training from. When they select on the desired training this is when they would receive these error messages. Our current release is in a HTML format, but because of this format the training interacts with the web browser and causes us problems so we were hoping to publish in exe and the training wouldn't open in a web browser.
Let me know if you have further questions or if I've just confused the situation more. Again thanks for your help!

  • Import Captivate .exe files

By accident someone deleted my original captivate files. I
only have my captivate .exe files. I need to update them. Is there
any way to open the .exe files in captivate.
    Judy

    Hi all
I would heartily encourage anyone that feels it would be
worthwhile to PLEASE consider submitting a Wish Form asking for a
decompiler to be created by the Captivate development team. I've
campaigned for this for years (albeit so far fruitlessly). But
something like this would be a welcome addition, no?

  • Captivate 4 link between 2 .exe files

I work with adobe captivate 4 and i developped a lot of presentations that i want to link i published each of them in the .exe format but the thing is that when i passes from one .exe file to another one, there is a delay and we can see the first .exe file closing and the second one opening. I wish to have a continious presentation.

    Hi there
Sorry, but there isn't a way past that to my knowledge. The reason is because the exe has to close and the new one has to load up and open. You are wanting a behavior similar to what you have with SWF playing in the browser. In the browser setup, it appears pretty seamless because the next SWF simply loads into the browser client area and plays.
Perhaps consider submitting a Wish Form to Adobe and who knows, maybe they will come up with some clever workaround in a future release.

  • Captivate 5 not rendering large exe files properly

Have imported large swf files into Captivate % (with seperate .wav files for audio). They all synch on the timeline at 24fps. for each slide. They look great in preview and when published to .exe they look fine on some computers. But we have encountered on at least 1 computer that the audio is out of synch with the video, and the video lags behind.
Would have not thought that this would be a problem with Captivate 5 exes.... Does anyone know a solution?
For preferences, I used Flash Player 9.

Sounds like the issue is something to do with either the specs or the codecs of the machine having problems.
The larger the SWF file and the more video you have, the more some machines will struggle to keep up with the decompression cycles.
Is the problem box of a lower spec (CPU speed etc) than the machines playing the content OK?
What version of Flash player is on each of the machines?  (FP 10 handles video better)
Are the codecs up to date on that machine?
Find out what the differences are and you'll have your solution.

  • Published .exe file - Captivate 5

We recently upgraded from Captivate 3to Captivate 5, with Captivate 3 we published all of our projects as .exe files and never experienced a problem.  However, I just created a project in Captivate 5, published it as a .exe file (tried with both Flash Player 9 and Flash Player 10) and users cannot access the file.  Those of us that have the Captivate 5 application installed on our PCs can open the .exe file without a problem.  However, the users that do not have the Captivate 5 application cannot open it.  All of us have Flash Player 10 installed, therefore, I don't believe it's a problem with the Flash Player.  The error message that they are getting states, "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
My project information is as follows:
    Resolution:  800x600
    Slides:  13
    Slides with audio:  0
    Audio quality:  MP3, 96 kbps, 44.100 KHz
    eLearning output:  Acrobat.com
    Display score:  Yes
    Enable Accessibility:  Yes
    Skin:  City Night
    Flash(SWF) size and quality:  Custom
    ActionScript Version:  AS3
I also published it as an .swf file (with html) and they cannot open the .swf (I believe because they don't have a swiff point player), but could open the .html.  However, the .html doesn't work properly with posting quiz results to acrobat.com.
Your help is greatly appreciated, at this point, it's preventing us from using Captivate 5 for anything.
    Nikki

    Hi David,
I don't understand why Adobe Technical support is still working on a solution .... when one has already been developed and WORKED !!! Unless other people are having a slightly different problem with publisheding as .exe file ??
Here is the details of the bug I reported on 16th August 2010:
Feature Request/Bug Report : Bug Report
    Product                    : Captivate

Captivate 5 Projects published as .exe will not run on Learners computers where Captivate 5 has NOT been installed. When they try to run the .exe file the following message is received: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". Learners computers are running on Windows XP
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Start Captivate 5
    2. Create project from project template. Note project template was created in Captivate 5
    3. Project created contains 5 slides, 4 slides are recording slides
    4. Save project
    5. publish project as Windows .exe  6. .exe files runs on computer with Captivate installed
    7. send file to learner (with no Captivate installed) and when the try to run it, the error message appears
Results: error message received: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"
Expected results: .exe file should run eLearning program created with Captivate 5
Here is the solution (minus the attached file since I can't add files to this forum) I received on 16th August:
We really appreciate you reporting this issue. The issue has been addressed and I am attaching the fix with this email.
Please follow the below steps -
    1. Rename the attached 'FakeFlash.txt' file to 'FakeFlash.Exe'.
    2. Go to "<Adobe Captivate 5 Installation Folder>/ExecutablePublish"
    3. Take a backup of 'FakeFlash.Exe' file.
    4. Replace the 'FakeFlash.Exe' with the one renamed in step 1
    5. Launch Captivate, Open the Project, and publish it to Exe
Let us know if it solved your problem.
    Thanks
    Ravi
I suggest Adobe Technical Support talk to their colleague, Ravi, for the solution instead of re-developing it. And post it on the Adobe site so everyone has access to it.
As much as I enjoy particatpating & helping the Captivate community ... I'm sorry I just can not act as you distributor of bug fixes because Adobe can't get their act straight on this MAJOR problem.
    Best Regards, Carol

  • Opening .exe files from captivate

Hi there everyone - I'm new here, my name is Jane and my main
interest is in captivate. I need some help. What I want to do is
open .exe files using captivate. So I create a new button and
choose as the action - open url or file. I find the file on my
local system - a .chm file and in other situations it will be a
.exe file made in multimedia builder and click ok.
Having placed the .cp the swf and the .chm / .exe in the same
file ( as in before, the path is correct ) what I get is the
dialogue box to Save / cancel - What I want to see is, (on a
windows computer ) the .chm file just open, or the .exe file just
open. I need this for web and for cd/dvd -
Someone PLEEEEAAASSSEE tell me it can be done somehow.
( if your suggestion is about - open a browser window -
unfortunatly for my needs i just don't think I can do that )

hi there retro - I have never used menu builder - its not
part of what I need - so im not sure how to do what you are saying
    - also - my hope was that - I could add in a graphic / button on
any slide i like and through that button launch the .exe file - do
you think this is possible - if not - am i right in thinking - the
only place where the user can download the file is before they
start watching, at the menu stage? I guess that is ok for the CD
production - although not really what I wanted, and as for the web
    - I could do it in dreamweaver I wounld not use captivate.
Could you tell me quickly how I should do what you are
suggesting - ill give it a try and see if its an acceptable work
    around.
I suppose im asking to much if i were to say, what i really
really want is - for the app to symataniouly open - e.g. the use
clicks on a pdf / .exe / .chm and the app opens along with the file
    .

  • Record audio from .exe file

Hi we had created an entire project of 2.5 hours of around 140 slides using Adobe Captivate 6. We had put the slide notes as text and published an .exe file and shared the same with the client.
However, now we have lost the source captivate .cptx file and have to redo the project from scratch.  We have the powerpoint presentation for each slide so putting the objects as per the .exe is not an issue.
We figured the easiest way to have the audio is to record directly from the .exe and then put the audio files in captivate, rather than putting slide notes and repeating the entire process.
Is there a way to directly record audio from the .exe file? This will reduce our effort with respect to the pronunciation of words.

Double-click your .exe file and let it run, do not close. If you're on Windows 7 go to
    C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\Temp\
and look for a folder like CPE7770.tmp. You can use the date and time stamp to locate this folder.
Your swf file will be there.
If on another Windows OS, the path should be similar.
You can also use software like Audacity or Audition to record audio from your computer. Set up will depend on your system config.
    Cheers,
    Seth

  • Creating a link on exported exe files

I have 9 separate projects I need to burn to a CD. I have
created an html menu. I am exporting each of the 9 projects as
stand alone exe files, each one automatically opening the next one.
But at any given time I would like the viewer to be able to exit to
the main menu. Should I just put a button linking to the main menu
on every single screen of a single project, to allow the user to
exit to the menu if they want?
FYI, I had initially created the 9 projects as html files,
linking to one another. I posted a message about that earlier. But
I am running into browser issues and don't want to run that risk
with the completed CD. Help! :)

    Hello Captiv8r and others,
This thread is pretty interesting. I have been struggling
with creating a project using Captivate 3 that will
reside fully on a CD. I am looking at maybe three workflows
for this, one using exe files, one using swf files and an html page
which serves as a "menu page" (the Captivate Menu builder just does
not have enough options, in terms
of graphic display, buttons, etc.), and the last one (which
is the hardest), using some sort of Flash container, a Flash
loader, and some menu buttons built in Flash, that call up
Captivate created swf files, etc. So far we have not had to track
state. I am trying to develop a training course on MS Excel, and am
using audio and Captivate for screen shots, mouse movements, etc.
After all the BS above, I do have a question. Is there a
reason to publish to an exe file in Captivate? Or what is the
reason(s) to publish a Captivate project to an exe file in the
first place. I have searched around for the answer on this, but
have found no good answer on this. Perhaps those of you more "sage"
Captivate users can provide some insight.
Thanks again for a very helpful forum,
    eholz1

for windows you should have an exe and a 7z file.  put both in the same directory and double click the exe.

  • Can I hyperlink to an EXE file?

    Cp7, Windows 7(64)
I want to create a CD-ROM for customers.
I want to link to several projects.
One of the projects has its own loader and directory structure.
I want to link to this non-Captivate EXE file,
I have published all "my" projects as EXE files (the other project was created by someone else).
Aggregator only allows SWF (makes sense).
I am trying to develop a Captivate project that will have hyperlinks to EXEs published by Captivate and to a non-Captivate EXE (which is in its own subdirectory).
When I link to the EXE I get file not found or website not found.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
    Michael

Sent a private message to you about the EXE not created by me.
However, I have a general question that I hope to find an answer for:
    A) I develop a Cp7 project
    B) I publish that project as an EXE file
    C) I create another project
    D) In this new project, I want to have a hyperlink associated with a word or two in a SmartShape.
    E) How do I get the hyperlink to open the EXE I created and published first?
I can't seem to find how to manage the file locatons. When I do a similar thing but publish to SWF/HTML, I can link to the other projects with no difficulty. When the other projects are EXEs, I can't seem to get it to work.
I am disappointed that I cannot find a help page or other documentation that will guide me through the process.
Thank you again for any help you can offer.
    Michael
