Captivate crashes with Automatically add click boxes

Ive found a problem with captivate 2 which causes it to crash
(it always crashes on my windows vista systems, but i dont think
captivate 2 is compatible with windows vista yet).
If i put a check in the box for "automatically add click
boxes" under recording options, it will crash fairly soon after i
start recording. Captivate 1 doesnt crash at all on the same
system.
Does anyone have any ideas of what i could try? (this is a
must have option, without automatically add click boxes, it just
simply goes into demonstration mode, which i do not require)

Thanks Rick, i wasnt aware that i could add click boxes to
the captivate projects, which is a help, but unfortunately a great
deal more work (i already have to press print screen enough times
as it doesnt capture properly).
Mark, the problem is the same on all my vista systems,
whenever we run in training simulation mode, or select
'Automitically add click boxes' in a custom option. It happens on
different builds of Vista including Vista Final RTM. The graphics
cards are all using drivers certified for use with Vista RTM. Why
is it that captivate 1 works fine on Vista, but captivate 2 doesnt?
is it something to do with Flash 9 not being great with
Vista?

  • Captivate 5 recording to add click boxes on mouse click

    Hi,
I have used Captivate in the past and I just installed a trial of V5. I am not able to get the click boxes to appear when recording my software simulations. I am recording in training mode. I click settings, Mode=Training Simulation, and then click the Add Text Captions. When I preview, none of the boxes appear. I have tried in multiple software programs thinking that was the issue, but nothing works.
Does anyone know what I am doing incorrectly?

    Hi Rebecca,
What you are doing is correct, but there is one more step.
On the main recording dialog "check the Training checkBox and uncehck the Demo"
    This should work.
    Please see the attached snapshot.

  • Captivate CS4 - Trouble using the Click box

    Hi.
I'm hoping someone can help with a frustating problem I am having.
I'm using captivate 4, and have several slides in my project.
I have a next button on the slide, with a click box set to pause until the user click the area. Once clicked the slide moves to the next slide.
However, on the same slide I have two buttons - one which opens a video file (so the button opens a URL when clicked), and a button on a different part of the slide which open a different URL link to different video..
The click box seems to work, and doesn't move on to the next slide when the first button is clicked on, opening up a URL video.
However, when I then click on the next button which opens up the second URL video, the slide suddenly moves onto the nextslide, without me clicking on the Click box area.
Why is this happening? It seems to work fine, until I place two buttons on the same slide, and the second button is clicked. I don't want the slide to move on until the user clicks the click box area.
    Please can someone help!
    Thanks

    Hi,
After a good night sleep I think I may have resolved the problem (I think). On the two buttons, they are set to open a URL link. Next to where I input the URL link, there is a menu where I select the option 'New' to open the video in a new internet window.
What I didn't realise in at the bottom of that same menu, there is also an option to select 'continue project'. If I de-select this, if I then click on the button the project remains paused as it should (until the user clicks the click box). So, originally what was happening is I had the 'continue project' selected for both those buttons, and this was overpowering the click box pause project function.
Fingers crossed it works. It seems to be on my tester!
    Thanks

  • How to add click box/button to QUIZ slides??

We have a basic quiz for our online course. At the top of the
quiz we have a navigation bar with next, back, main menu, help, etc
which we use a click box to make link.
However, when we're on a quiz slide the click box and button
option are grayed out. You can't access them at all. How can we fix
this?? We HAVE to have the top navigation be functional as it is
for the rest of the slides. Help!

I'm having the same general problem you are.
I got this response a few days ago:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=464&threadid=1374767
Its a little different question but I think the answer can be
applied to both: Its not in the program to allow users to fully
customize question slides. Unfortunate, but a reality I guess.

  • InCopy CS6 crashes with automatic spellcheck

    Hello,
after updating to CS6 we have the problem, that InCopy crashes immediatly when invoking the automatic spellchecking. Does anyone have an idea about that?
    Best regards,
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,
I've tested this and can confirm that Adobe InCopy and InDesign CS 6 version 8.0.3.415 will crash when Dynamic Spelling is enabled.
With the Adobe Partner Rapid Release Update build 415 for CS 6, the plug-in "Spelling Panel.InDesignPlugin" was updated to version 8.0.3.415 from 8.0.0.307, in both InDesign and InCopy. After applying this update, the problems emerge.
Note: Testing with previous builds (412, 413, 414) seem fine. The Spelling Panel is updated starting with 415.
    InCopy:
When Dynamic Spelling is enabled AND Story or Galley view is active with a document open (even an empty one!) InCopy will crash.
InCopy will not crash if the application is only displaying Layout view.
    InDesign:
When Dynamic Spelling is enabled InDesign will function as normal when working with a layout. Selecting a text frame and opening the Story Editor will cause InDesign to crash.
Lastly, we've not seen any relationship between this problem and K4 plug-ins. I assume the same would prove true for WW.
    Regards,
    Mark

  • Firefox crashing with no add-ons or plug-ins

Yesterday, I removed all of my add-ons and deleted all of my plug-ins except for Mozilla Default. Firefox ran smoothly all day yesterday after that. Now today, it's beginning crashing again. (RtlpWaitForCriticalSection | RtlEnterCriticalSection) is the signature of the crash. I don't know what's causing this at all. There is nothing left that could be contributing to this as far as I can tell.

  • Apply multiple effects to multiple objects with single click box

I would like to click on a click box and have one object appear and another object disappear. I guess what I'd like to do is apply effects to multiple objects with a single click box. Is that possible?
    Thank you.

    Welcome to our community
Sure it can be done but you won't use effects to do it.
When you insert an object in Captivate, you have an option to enable or disable Visibility. You also have an option to name the object. So you would give the object a meaningful name and clear the Visibility option to "hide" it until needed.
Then you would create an Advanced Action that would hide some objects and show others.
After that, you would assign the Advanced Action to a Click Box or a Button or some other event.

  • Add-on box closes whenever I click in it/on it

So, I updated to 3.6.3, and then had a friend come over and use my computer. I assumed that he had totally jacked up my noscript settings as that add-on wasn't functioning correctly. When I tried to click on the add-on's box that pops up when accessing from the browser, it closed promptly. Again, I chalked this up to the friend. Uninstalled firefox, deleted all add-on's, bookmarks, etc. Reinstalled firefox, still couldn't get the add-on box to respond, it continually closes whenever I attempt to click on it/within it. Added noscript again, it works fine. What's going on with the add-on box?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • Unable to link click box to Word document

I am using Captivate 2 to create a click box. On success the
click box should open a Word document in a new window. I have saved
the Word document in the same folder with my swf. After testing the
click box, I get an error message IE was unable to link to the Web
page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.
What is weird that the Open URL or File on success works fine
if I set the Word document to open in the current window. This
option is not possible, because I do not want users leaving the
course. Am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

I'm facing this problem since Captivate 2
but I just skip the link file part....
But now i doing my personal portfolio
which got huge link pdf and mpeg link file...
    so I've tried Captiv8r method
    but after publish into .exe
    when i click the clickbox
i will appear ERROR sign and won't open the link pdf file
    I've followed all the steps:
    1. From Captivate, click File > Create a MenuBuilder
    project...
    2. Choose the "Blank Project" type and click OK.
    3. Click Options > Project Options...
    4. Change the Width to 320 and the Height to 200 (These are
    the minimum settings)
    5. Click OK to dismiss the Project options.
    6. Click Insert > Clickbox...
    7. You should see a "New Clickbox" dialog. There should be an
    empty field labeled "Link".
    8. Type only your document file name into the Link field.
    9. Place a check mark in the "Save file with project" check
box, and click OK to dismiss the dialog.
    10. You may see a warning dialog where MenuBuilder is
quibbling about the document not being present. Don't let this fool
you. Just click NO to advise you don't wish to browse for the file.
    11. At this point you should see a small object on your
MenuBuilder. It should say "Clickbox" and be positioned in the
    middle of the project.
    12. Drag the sizing handles until it totally covers the area.
It should totally cover the whole area.
    13. Now click the Export toolbar button.
    14. MenuBuilder will then prompt you to save the project. Go
ahead and give it a name to appease it and click the Save button.
    15. Select "Flash Movie" from the Export Options dialog and
    click Next >.
    16. Type a file name, choose a location to store the movie,
make sure the "View project after export" option is NOT selected,
    then click the Finish button.
    17. Now you may close MenuBuilder. You are finished with it.
    We go back to Captivate.
    18. In Captivate, open the slide with the link you wish to
use to open the document. The goal here is to click Insert >
Animation... and suck in the .SWF you created using MenuBuilder.
19.Then position that over an image or something that will
clue your user to click it.
    I've follow all the step
    but in NO.8 & No.9
If I just type the file name (and no link)
I can't place a check mark in the "Save file with project"
    check box
and when I import the swf into Captivate
    It will show a message:
"Adobe Captivate - Captivate link test.cp
The Adobe Flash file contains action script that reference
"root". This might cause the adobe captivate project to work
incorrectly or to stop working. do u want to continue to add this
    file?"
and After burning in to CD
I can't open the PDF link file!
and it will jump out a ERROR:F sign! (actually what is the
    "F" means? FXXK? haha~)
After several times try and error
I've slightly make some changes at NO.8 procedure:
    8. Type only your document file name into the Link field.
(I've choose and place the file with whole link & file
    name,
which is: C:\Unzipped\Captivate testing\D herbal tea
    Leaflet(C).pdf
and then now I can check the "save file with project"
    checkbox)
after output to a swf and insert animation in captivate
although captivate also show the "Adobe Captivate - Captivate
    link test.cp
The Adobe Flash file contains action script that reference
"root". This might cause the adobe captivate project to work
incorrectly or to stop working. do u want to continue to add this
    file?" message
but now i can open the link file (in same folder with .exe
    publish file)
    in any other computer!
I've checked the action script inside the link.swf which i've
    created, and get the result:
    // Action script...
    on (release)
    var szArg = "D herbal tea Leaflet(C).pdf";
    var szWindow = "_blank";
    if (_root.FlashPlayer == "1")
    getURL("FSCommand:execfile", szArg);
    else
    getURL(szArg, szWindow);
    } // end if
it shows the file name only!
    Now it's no problem!
PS: U cannot open the link file under preview mode
    it won't open
    but after publish into .exe
u can open the link file!

  • Project locks up when user double clicks click box

I have a series of practice questions in my Captivate 5 projects that use click boxes to select the question's answers.  The project pauses at the click boxes (which all appear at the same time), and a feedback caption appears.  A second later, a continue button appears.  The project again pauses until the user clicks the continue button.  Then the project goes to the next slide.  My problem is that when the user double clicks a click box,  or clicks it right when it appears (the cursor changes from arrow to a hand), the continue button does not appear.
I am just considering deleting the continue button but my intent there was to allow as much time as the user needed to read the feedback captions after clicking the click box.  Any help on this is appreciated.
Options selected on click box: hand cursor, and pause project until user clicks.
    Thanks.

Actually, I was more wondering what kind of code I
need to add to my program to make it possible at all.
My file input and output is all done from a Utilites
class which I made but quite obviously any OS will
    not know to call Utiities.load(...arguments...).
But, my goal is to have my program work as seamlessly
as possible with a normal person's desktop.I'm sorry, you're right, I completely misread your post. I would definitely take the tactic of writing a .reg file and executing it. That seems to be the accepted way of creating registry entries on Java if you have to do such a thing.
Here is a link to the type of .reg file you're going to need to associate a file with a certain program, and you'll need to modify it slightly to do a 'java -jar myJar' type of thing. Then, just point Runtime.getRuntime().exec() at it, and you should be good to go.
The only thing I'd be worried about is how to find the JAVA_HOME. If you launched your installer via WebStart (or had the user double-click the jar for the first time), though, you could just use
    System.getProperty("java.home");

  • Show an image for incorrect click box response

Is there a better way to show a "Please Try Again" image for a click box response?
    1.  Add click box.
    2.  Set to 1 attempt
    3.  If clicked correctly, advance to next slide.
    4.  If clicked incorrectly, continuing playing current slide
    5.  Add "Please Try Again" image in timeline to show AFTER click box Pause.
    6. If I want to allow multiple failed attampts before moving to the next slide, duplicate items 1 - 5 above, adding it later in the timeline,
The above method works if Quiz Scoring is turned off.  If Quiz Scoring is turned on, would I have to start using variables to score the quiz?  Each click box would set a variable to TRUE once they get the question correct, whether it was the first attempt or the third attempt.
    Micky

BTW - This is Captivate CS5.
Just thought of a better solution.
After incorrect, redirect to the beginning of the current slide, so it plays from the beginning again.  this way, I would have to duplicate a click box and "please try again" image 3 times for 3 attempts in the same slide.
However, this method would not let me specify the number of attempts, unless that was stored in variable.
    hmmm....
One second thought, it may be better to just duplicat the items to reflect the number of attempts I want on that page.  This would let me include a highlight box after the last attempt so they can learn where to click correctly.  We don't want them caught in an endless loop of ignorance!
As for scoring, I wouldn't have to use variables if I directed them to a "Correct" screen that as a "Click to continue" click box that gave them the point.  Though that might be a little clunky.
Thanks for letting me think through my problem on this forum.  ;-)

  • Captivate 4 crashes when I try to add a click box to a slide

I know this is not an advanced functionality but it's certainly an agressive bug. I have created several movies using the Clickbox button to add boxes to my slides with no problem, but I have one Captive 4 file that crashes every time I click on the Clickbox tool or try to paste a Clickbox from another movie. The problem file was created in the same resolution and using the same techniques as the non-problematic files. Any ideas as to what could be causing this or am I stuck with a corrupt file I need to reshoot?
    Thanks!
    Joyce

    Hi there
It could be that your project has become corrupt. In that case you might be able to recover by opening a second instance of Captivate and creating a new blank project using the same resolution as the problem one. Then copy slides from the problem project and pasting into the new blank one.
Just a side note. You seem to be confusing Click Boxes and Buttons. These are two distinctly different objects. Click Boxes operate nearly the same way as Buttons. They are invisible by their very nature.

  • Navigation: stop automatic slide advancement with multiple click boxes

5.0 newbie question.  I  know I have a lot to learn about navigation before I develop another CBT, but I have done a beta test and found a situation I hadn't encountered before, so I am looking for help to get me past this with a band-aid until I can do this the right way later. I have read many issues about navigation and don't seem to see exactly what my issue is.
I am using the playbar for limited user self navigation, so all my slides have click boxes with "pause until the user clicks" properties.  On some of my slides though, I have created pseudo-button like things via click boxes that popup email or browser windows (via Open URL).  When I was testing these out, they worked as I hoped: opened the external window, but did NOT advance the slide. But I have come to realize that in my testing, I was always clicking on those buttons before the audio had completed and my testers are clicking on them AFTER the audio is complete.  The behavior in the latter case causes the slide to advance (as well as correctly popup the external window).  I don't want it to advance when the user selects that particular click box and they are not REQUIRED to click on that box, it is optional.  It doesn't seem to matter how I set the properties, I get the same behavior.  Suggestions O wise Captivate gurus??  ;^)

  • Captivate 6 is Crashing when inserting click boxes and other issues

Desperately need help because I have never seen anything like this.  I use Captivate 6 in the workplace and have not run into an issue like this in the 9 years I have used Captivate.
Captivate will not open any new projects (800 x 600 or 640 x 480 etc.)  Nothing happens.  When I open 1024 x 768 (the project size I have been using for the last year), a new project will open but when I try to add a click box, I get an error message "A fatal error has occurred and the application is being terminated.  Adobe Captivate tried to save all your work int he respective project folders as "cpbackup" files.  Please restart Captivate.  This has only been happening for a week.
When a coworker or IT employee signs onto my computer under their profile, Captivate works fine for them.  I went to another co-workers desk who has Captivate and when I sign on her computer under my profile, I have the same problem so we figured my work profile was corrupt.  IT set up a new profile 2 separate times, I have uninstalled and re-installed 3 or 4 time and nothing works.  We are on a network but Captivate is installed on my C:Drive and I save all my files on the C:Drive.
The odd thing is if can open up files I have worked on this past year (even up to 2 weeks ago), they are fine and I can insert click boxes without any problems.  It just happens when I try to create a new file.
We have Adobe volume licenses at work so I can not call and get support and none of us can figure this out.  I would be really grateful for some help!!
    Thanks,
