Captivate Doesn't Capture Screen Toast

Hello,
We developed an application that notifies users of changes with a screen toast. We went to use captivate to begin developing training material and Captivate does NOT capture the screen toast??!! I'm doing full screen captures which works great as it captures mouse action, the entire desktop, audio, everything BUT the screen toast???
What am I missing??
JB

Hi again
Thanks for the example. Almost thought you didn't supply one as it wasn't visible straight away. Then noticed you elected to attach instead of using the Camera. But at least we can see what you are talking about!
So you taught an old dog a new term. I'd never heard of Screen Toast prior to today.
I'm wondering if what you are seeing is occurring in a "layered" window. I don't believe Captivate captures these beasties. You also see it when you try to capture some full motion clips. As these sometimes appear in layered windows, all you get in Captivate is a blank area where you expected to see the video.
Assuming you are able to capture the area using something like SnagIt, you could insert the "toast" as a separate image object and time accordingly or possibly merge into the background after properly placing it.
You should also report this as a bug to Adobe. (Link for doing that is in my sig line.)
Cheers... Rick

  • Captivate fails to capture screen

    Hi,
I need some help in understanding why on certain applications
    Captivate fails to :-
    Capture drop down menus
and on the same application the "printscreen" function seems
    not to work.
The application I'm trying to capture is Latent Zero.
    Thanks
    Tom.

    Hello Tom,
What version of Captivate are you using? I have experienced
these sorts of problems when attempting to capture screens using an
application viewer program such as Real VNC with Captivate 1 but
this one was addressed in Adobe Captivate 2

  • Captivate doesn't work without admin access

I work in a large organisation and don't have admin access to my machine. IT team have installed Captivate using their admin profile. But when I try to launch it as a "user", the program crashes right away. Adobe support suggested the following but it doesn't work. Has anyone found a way around the problem?
Ajit: You can do one thing, Could you ask your IT to set this application on Admin mode always for your User Account, which means they need not provide you the admin rights completely but just to this application.Ajit: you can set it by going to installed location of Adobe Captivate.exe-- Right Click-- Properties, Under Compatibility mode, set it to open in admin mode always. Under Security Tab, get your user name added and make sure it recieves Full Control over this application.

Yes you DO need to run Captivate in  Administrator Mode.  But not having this set up properly doesn't usually cause the app to crash immediately on startup.  If anything, it usually means you crash later on when trying to do something like capture screens. Your problem may be due to something else.
One thing that often crops up is corrupted fonts causing the crash.  You can search for posts on that.  Another thing you may need to also investigate is whether or not your organisation is using roaming user profiles.  If they are, then that could also cause your Captivate application to crash.  Captivate 6 in particular suffers from an issue where the Layouts folder that contains Captivate themes is installed by default inside the user's My Documents folder and it cannot be moved from there to another location on the user's hard drive. However, if using roaming profiles, then the shifting location of this Layouts folder has been known to cause crashing.

  • Black capture screen in Win 7 unless aero themes are turned on

I have discovered through trial and error that unless I disable Aero themes on my powerful Windows 7 laptop, my captures always seem to drop a frame or two despite the souped-up resources I have (super fast processor, 16GB RAM, capturing to second hard drive, etc).  By the way, I am capturing through firewire from a Canon XL2 (DV) camera.
However, on other machines on which I have older versions of Premiere Pro installed, I can do this automatically by right clicking on my desktop Premiere Pro icon, choosing the compatibility tab, and putting a check in the "disable desktop composition" tab.  This basically toggles Aero off as soon as Premiere Pro starts loading, and toggles it back on when I close it.  But this has never worked with Premiere Pro CS6.  I have always had to manually disable Aero even though I have supposedly disabled it through the said compatibility tab of Premiere Pro CS6.
That's never been a major problem until now.  Now, if PP CS6 is open and aero themes are disabled, I get a black capture screen (I can hear the audio but the capture screen is completely black).  But as soon as I toggle aero back on, the capture screen again displays video normally.  So, basically, if I intend to capture with PP CS6, I am forced into leaving Aero themes on so that I can monitor my capture, but if I do so, I drop frames.  Infuriating.
This seems to be a similar problem to the one I had a few months ago, "I get a black capture screen (preview), but video captures fine.  What gives?"
I got no suggestions for that problem other than to "use another application to capture," (UNacceptable since I paid BEAUCOUP bucks for CS6 and I have a perfectly reasonable expectation that it should perform), and "roll back to the previous update" [again, unacceptable, as  1) I have no idea how to do that and 2) updates are issued to resolve other problems, right?  So why should I be forced to roll back?].  Sorry, but these didn't help.
That particular problem was apparently "resolved" with a subsequent update, and there were no problems for a while (other than the fact that I could still not disable aero through PP CS6's compatiblity tab).  But now, apparently, there has been a further update that has caused this latest problem that never existed before.  Please help.

Regardless, Premiere Pro should not have an issue if I want to disable Aero themes.  CS6 is the only version that apparently does have an issue with it (and, even then, only recently, which leads me to beleive that a recent update is to blame).
I know this because I also have the old, old Premiere Pro 2.0 installed on the same machine.  If I disable Aero and then Open PP 2.0, the capture screen is just fine.
But if I disable Aero and first open PP CS6, close it, and then open PP 2.0 instead, the capture screen in PP 2.0 is now black as well, and I cannot get it back unless I reboot.  Obviously, when I close PP CS6, some service or other, that I haven't been able to identify so far, is remaining open and affecting PP 2.0.
Again, all prior versions of PP have never had an issue with disabling Aero themes.  Why does CS6, all of sudden, absolutely need it enabled in order to work properly (though it doesn't work properly, it drops frames)?

  • Capture Screen Shot not working in Full Motion

I am trying to use Full Motion Recording to capture mouse
movement, while also manually capturing screen shots. The screen
shots are not being captured though. I've tried the default Print
Screen key, and also resetting it to the Down key, with no success.
I can capture the screen shots when Full Motion Recording is not
    active.
The information in the Help files and Knowledgebase seem to
indicate that it's possible to manually capture screens while
recording full motion. Any suggestions about what could be going
    wrong?
    Thanks.

Hi LisaLouLou and welcome to our community
I think the help may be misleading you here. If you are
recording by using the total “Full Motion Capture”,
Captivate ignores the Print Screen key because you have told it
that the entire project is to be recorded using Full Motion. Hence,
there is no slide by slide based recording as there is using the
    other options.
After you have recorded, you are free to insert blank slides,
then add images as needed in case that helps.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Captivate 1 not capturing

This is a problem I have never had before. Captivate is not
automatically capturing screens even on entry to a new screen or on
a mouse click. I am having to force a capture using the Print
Screen option. This is not a feasable solution to the problem. Is
there some sort of problem with the version I am using? I have
    1.0.1188 Build 1188.

    berrylicious877,
Is this happening in all cases or only when you try to
capture a specific application? If it is the latter, it may be that
the application is "intercepting" the capture mechanism used by
Captivate and preventing Captivate from doing what it should. If
that is the case, I am not sure what can be done to rectify the
    problem.
If it is happening in all cases, then you may have some
corruption in the registry settings. Others may offer up areas
where you can manually change those settings, but I prefer not to
mess with them. I would try uninstalling/reinstalling to see if
    that corrects the problem.

  • Failure to capture screens

hello all, my issue stems from captivate not collecting
screen shots properly for one perticular piece of software. It is
my understanding that whenever a mouse click is performed,
captivate should take a screen shot. When I try to collect a
captivate session i usually collect only one "slide" of my software
demonstration. I've tried to manually collect screenshots via
"print screen" key, however, it seems that the software I am trying
to capture overrides the mouse clicks AND key strokes and prevents
captivate from registering a click/key stroke. I actually have to
alt+tab out of my software demonstration for captivate to register
clicks and keystrokes (end session, prnt scrn, full motion
start/stop) does that seem fesible? is there anyway to force
captivate to see the clicks and key strokes?

    Welcome to our community
I'm not sure if it's a possibility for you, but some folks
have reported success with establishing a remote desktop session.
You then start Captivate on the desktop viewing and controlling the
troubled application remotely. Because you are only viewing and
controlling the application from a different desktop, you are able
to capture the screens and activity.

  • Premiere CS4 hangs at capture screen

I recently loaded CS4 on a Windows 7 64bit computer. I only have 2 prodjects loaded. When I open the first project, it hangs on a blank (White) capture screen. It won't let me do anything but close out. It doesn't matter if the capture device in connected or not. I can open the 2nd project by activating the capture device first and allowing it to open Premiere. The first program won't open this way either. I thought it may be something else on the the computer interferring but there's not much more on this computer. Another odd quirk but this one won't let me do anything with my project. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Art

I did update SonicFire Pro 5.0 to 5.5 just after I installed CS4. It is a new computer build, Windows 7 64bit 12 gig ram HD7850 videocard.
When CS4 starts it goes to the open screen. I click on the project and Premiere opens but hangs on the capture screen but it's blank.(no controlls)  This happens before I do anything else. I can't minimize or close without going into the task Mgr. I can't open from the file on the harddrive, Bridge etc. When I connect my capture device and turn it on, autoplay gives me the option to open in CS4. SOMETIMES I can open one of my projects. (I only have 2) sometimes I can't.  Frustrating! When it does open, it works fine. The first project that has the band will open to CS4 but hangs on the capture screen. When no capture device is connected, the band project will open to CS4 and STILL hang at the capture screen with no capture device connected.

  • OpenScript DOESN'T capture Java Applet popup window

I am testing an airline website that requires to choose a Departure and Returning Date from a web.button called 'View Calendar' which is a Java Applet. During recording, it doesn't capture the View Calendar as an object and therefore, i am unable to test the validity of the dates chosen.

I haven't seen an Applet module in OpenScript yet, you might have to use OFT to build the script

    Hi,
As part of the Business Process we submit RFI template for supplier to fill up the questionnaires. After supplier responded, the answers will be captured in Oracle SLM.  Buyer has the option to view responses in various way and format.  For the above case, go to Action list, select "Buyer Printable View" in specific RFI, the report in PDF format is launched.  However, only questions are available, it does not include supplier's feedback.  Is this standard function?  I think this is a bug though but I was told not

This is standard functionality, as the printed copy is circulated to the suppliers.

You seem to be very confused about what servlets and JSPs are. These are
things that run on the server and generate HTML. They can't possibly know
if a user has scrolled the page, because the user hasn't seen the page yet
when they are run. If they tried to read screen resolution, they'd get the
screen resultion for the graphics subsystem on the server, or an exception
if one isn't available (eg, there is no X display set).
For these kinds of client interaction tasks, JavaScript is probably still
              your best option.
              Chris Smith

Hey all you non-ASP programmers, here's the deal. Microsoft has a Browser
Capabilities component and they have defined a special way for you to
populate a specially named cookie on the client side that will then allow
the component to pick up what you sent it. In the ASP script, you then use
the component. Behind the scenes, it works exactly like what you guys
imagine, but Microsoft provides the format for sending the information and
              the parsing.
The client side script does need to be written to include the information
you want, but it would typically be written once and hidden by the lead
programmer in a common include file where most programmers never had to
think about it and thus might think it happened automatically.
If you're really curious, here's an MSDN link to the details:

  • Capturing screen resolution in JSP or servlet

Is it possible to capture screen resolution in JSP or a Servlet? I can
currently do it in JavaScript and write the result in to a cookie that a
servlet can read, but is there a better solution.

You have to remember JSPs/Servlets run on the server. They can only
manipulate information that you explicitely pass to them or information
passed by HTTP. You could pass this information, gathered by JavaScript,
through a POST or GET method.
