  • Load limitations for Captivate Files in RoboHelp?

We are investigating RoboHelp 9 as a solution for an upcoming help project that would involve a large number of Captivate demos (approximately 70) ranging in size from 1 - 5MB. Has anyone run into issues using large numbers of Captivate files in a RoboHelp project? Is there a maximum file size for Captivate demos in RoboHelp? Any other issues? I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone with experience in this area.

    Welcome to our community
There really shouldn't be any load limitations other than those imposed by the Captivate files themselves. My guess is that you plan on using WebHelp, no? And if you are, the Captivate demos will be loaded as needed from the server. So the only lag you will see is the delay for what it takes for the server to serve up the demo itself.
Hopefully this answers your question. If not, post back and we will take another stab at it.

  • Adding swf (Captivate clips) into RoboHelp: flash controls don't work

    Hi all,
I've added captivate swf project and ALL the flash controls (toc, play etc) don't work, though it plays continuously from the beginning. If I extract that page HTML code and play it separately, it works on all browsers. I render RoboHelp projects as MS HTML Help.
Are there any known issues with rendering flash clips in Microsoft HTML Help? it looks as it is using some weird embedded browser for swf.
    any suggestions?
    thanks

    Hi again
Okay, this gets curiouser and curioser the more I look at it.
At first blush it appeared things were working. Then I tried the playback controls. Odd, the controls will allow a single click and they will carry out whatever function you clicked. But that seems to be it. Further clicks appear to be disallowed. I tested with a fresh Captivate movie as well as one that uses the Domain Lock Widget.
Wondering if this was an overall issue with SWF content in general or if it was simply tied to the Playback Controls, I then tried adding some button objects to each slide to allow the user to navigate from slide to slide. This seems to work.
I thought (hoped actually) that perhaps it was simply the default playback controls causing the issue. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. I tried creating a SWF using the Aluminum controls. Same issue.
At this point I have to admit that I'm more than a little stumped. I'm surprised that I've not heard of this before or that others haven't reported it. However, I use Captivate files in my CHM files all the time. The main difference is that I never use playback controls in my movies. I am always using either Buttons or Click Boxes to navigate.
So being generally unsatisfied and poking it further, I seem to have found the culprit. I did the same thing in RoboHelp 7 and there wasn't an issue. What was different? I scrutinized the code and there was no difference. Hmmm
Then it hit me. The difference here was that where the Captivate playback control only functioned after the first click, the RoboHelp project was using Browse Sequences. So I edited the window definition and turned them off. BINGO! The Captivate works fine now.
I also tested using RoboHelp 7. Same issue there as well.
Definitely this should be reported to Adobe as a bug. Link is in my sig.

  • Scaling Captivate videos in RoboHelp Multiscreen

    RoboHelp HTML 11, Captivate 7
I'm including Captivate videos into my Robohelp HTML project. I need to be able to shrink the video "object" to fit in our window.
Rick, you've answered this question several times over the years, such as here: Re: How do you scale captivate file in Robo 9 to fit the screen?  In my case, the output has to run in Internet Explorer without Shockwave Flash enabled.  (Also, the user won't have RoboHelp or Captivate installed, if that matters).  I'm told that our Captivate demos were published in "Scalable HTML" format. I was using Multiscreen as the output, but I'm open to one of the other HTML outputs.
I tried it two different ways:
I imported the Demos using File --> Import --> Adobe Captivate Demo --> HTML5 Output, then selected the appropriate index.htm file. The videos run, but resizing the text box or demo "object" only crops the video.  We even tried saving them in a smaller size in Captivate, but they seem to be the same size in RoboHelp.
I imported the project (*.cptx) using File --> Import --> Adobe Captivate Project. Doing this, I can resize the video (and watch it using that "viewer" that appears after I click "Generate"). However, when I run the index.htm file in Internet Explorer (as I assume the users will do), the video is blank unless I enable Flash. (This is despite the fact that I checked "Use Adobe Captivate HTML5 Output" in the Multiscreen layout!)
What's the best way to approach this?  (I hope you're not going to tell me that I have to put everything into Baggage, because as you've pointed out in the past, that would be a very big job.)
    Thanks.
    -- Shawn

    Hi Shawn
Unless you want to host the Captivate output separately from RoboHelp and just link to it where needed, you are going to find yourself a bit "stuck" with the baggage trick.
If the content needs to scale, you have a couple of ways to deal with it.
    1. You can simply link from a TOC page to the html page for the Captivate output. Using this method should cause the Captivate output to scale to the topic frame.
    2. You can insert an InlineFrame and point its content to the Captivate html page in Baggage. You would then need to configure the frame to be 100% wide. You would take this approach if you have other content that needs to come before and/or after the video.
I would heartily encourage you to report the pain points of being forced to add Baggage folders and files as a bug to Adobe using the link below.

  • Publishing Captivate quiz using RoboHelp HTML 9

I am trying to publish a quiz made with Captivate 4 using RoboHelp HTML 9 webhelp pro output.  The quiz is saved on a network drive and I tried to link out to it from Robohelp but that did not work so I imported the quiz html file into Robohelp and I can view the quiz using the goggle tool in Robohelp but when I publish the screen is blank.  Does anyone know what I am doing wrong and how to get it to work?  This is my first time trying to use Captivate with Robohelp.
    Thanks,
    Chrissy

Did you also import the SWF and JS files as well as the HTM?

  • Deleting Inserted Captivate Movies from RoboHelp 7?

How do you delete Captivate movies that you insert into
RoboHelp 7? It seems like it should be easy, but I don't see how.
    Thanks,

Thanks Rick. My problem was that I was trying to delete the
swf file directly, rather than deleting the topic the Captivate
movie was inserted on. After deleting the topic (or companion page)
like you said, the swf is removed automatically.
On another note, I was reading an instructional article by
John Daigle on Captivate 2 and RoboHelp.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/captivate/articles/cp_rh_integration_06.html
In the article, he describes a workaround for getting the player
controls and border to appear when you insert a Captivate movie
into RoboHelp (a Captivate movie that was created outside of
RoboHelp). However, I've found that when I import the Captivate swf
file with the word _skin in it (there are a couple of swf files
Captivate outputs), the borders and player controls appear
automatically without the workaround. Is this a bug that Captivate
3 and RoboHelp 7 fixed from the previous version?

  • Need to edit a Captivate file that won't open. Can the SWF be edited?

We are currently using Adobe eLearning Suite 2 (Cp5).
We have 2 older Captivate files (Cp 3 or 4) that will not open; they act like they're opening but eventually they just time out without the error message that you normally get with a corrupt file.
So all we have access to are the SWFs & zip files that were uploaded into our LMS.
We are switching to a different LMS and need to quickly make an edit to these files before they are uploaded to the new LMS.
Is it possible to edit the SWF (delete about 30 seconds of content off the end of each file) and still have them function as far as registering completion? And if so, what program would I need?

Sorry, but only Adobe can speculate as to why the older files refuse to open in the newer version. Phase of the moon? Jupiter aligning with Mars while the house of the Moon is in retrograde?
Personally, I'm going with the Mass Coronal Ejection theory!
Assuming there is really no interaction going on, you *MIGHT* be able to fudge things to get that last 30 seconds to go away by playing the SWF and using Captivate to record the SWF as it plays.

  • Unable to Load Captivate files to Creative Cloud

We have several captivate files that that for whatever reason we are unable to upload to creative cloud.  We have tried from both Macs and PCs and receive the same message.  "A virus was detected in Filename. This file will not be uploaded."   They function in every respect in both cp7 and cp8.  We have scanned them with mac and pc virus scanners.  I can remove all the contents of the file and it still fails.
If I copy out all the slides to a new file, the file loads to cc. There is a lot of master template and advanced actions that would be lost if we have to port out the slides. This is not a great solution.
Can anyone suggest possible causes or remedies?  My hope this there is some resource missing or corrupted in the file structure and that can be repaired.
    Thanks for your attention.

    Warner,
The only virus detection program that I found that recognizes this virus is ClamWin (Free Antivirus for Windows - Open source GPL virus scanner) I used it to scan the text animation swf files ( installed with my Adobe Captivate 8 64 bit program files. Below is the report. I hope this helps someone at Adobe to find and fix the issue as soon as possible. Since I now know there is a virus on my system, I really need a fix as soon as possible. What I read about this virus is that "it will be used as a backdoor to spread more malware, malicious, and other Trojan virus... usually monitors internet browsing activity and collects confidential information of the victims and then sends them to Cybercriminals...."
Here are the results of my program directory scan. As you can see not all text animations are impacted but many are.

  • Problem using captivate file in a flash file

    Hi,
I am using a captivate file inside a flashfile.
I am experiencing the following problem.
I have a button in a layer above the captivate file. But when
I click that button the button and the captivate file react.
How is this possible, and how can I resolve this?

    I don't understand your question.
You 'click a button and the button and the captivate file
    react'.
    What does that mean?
A bit more clarity in exactly what is happening may help
    diagnose the
    problem (no promises!).

  • Passing variables from web server to HTML5 Captivate File

I am publishing a Captivate quiz as HTML5 and hosting them on a website. I would like to know how I can pass data from my site to the HTML5 based Captivate quiz.
So far I have had success getting data out of captivate by having the file POST the results of a finished quiz to a RESTful route. However, I have not had success putting data into the file. I would like to pass information such as User ids and quiz ids, maybe even current slide position so that I can associate the quiz information with my database. I am not specifically looking for a solution to user ids, quiz ids, etc. because I can get creative in that regard, I just want to know if others have been able to set variables on Captivate file load.
I have tried a setting variables in a couple ways:
    - Declaring the variables with javascript, then ajax loading the page into a div. This caused dependency issues since the captivate file uses relative paths for its assets folder.
    - Modifying the published html file by adding the javascript variables, this returned an error message saying I cannot override the existing captivate variables
    - Adding the js variables into the init function, this had no effect.

To simply pass the username and an id I used the following.
Note the URL has query string parameters that match the captivate variables
    http://mywebsite/Course/index.html?cpQuizInfoStudentID=IDHere&cpQuizInfoStudentName=Studen tNameHere
Another way to do this to use JavaScript to read the query string, and the assign variable in CP to the query string values. I remember reading some more detail, but cant remember where.
    Hope it helps

  • Word docs become huge RTF files in RoboHelp 8.02

Every Word document that I add to the RoboHelp 8 project becomes huge in file size.  For example, a 100k Word 2007 document that consists of a couple of pages of text with a couple of small JPEG images (around 50k each) becomes a 15-30 meg RTF file in RoboHelp after importing.  The same happens if I created the page/document from within RoboHelp.  Is there a setting to keep the RTF files from swelling to such large gigantic sizes?

I found out what the problem was.  For some reason, the RTF files swell up when the a jpeg image is added and embedded into the Word document.  I created a test document and converted some of the jpeg images to bitmap (BMP) files and used the Image import tool that comes with RoboHelp.  The RTF documents stayed tiny even when the same images were added but now as BMPs.   The difference is that the RoboHelp image tool creates a link to the bitmap image as opposed to embedding it in the document which is what happened with the jpegs.  I read about this in another post that alluded to this in one of the RoboHelp forums.
    Thanks!

  • Captivate file won't open

Has anyone ever had an issue where the Captivate file will
not open? In my case, the program generates the following error:
"Exception EParserError in module converter.dll at 0002B53E"
I've tried opening this projects on 2 different computers
using Captivate version 1 and 3. The error get's thrown in version
    1. In version 3, it just crashes as it tries to convert and re-save
the project in a new version.

    Hi there
    Seeking an answer isn't rude.
What we don't like to see is when someone pops into the forums and begins posting the same issue in many different places in the hopes of getting a fast answer. When this happens we end up having to delete the repeated threads so that the question is only asked in a single location. That way any answer will hopefully be provided in the same location and others that come looking later will actually find an answer.
Sometimes Captivate files become corrupt. The reasons a project may corrupt vary. But generally speaking, the following are some guidelines:
Projects may corrupt if working with them while they are stored on a network drive. Captivate likes it better when the project is on the local PC.
Projects may corrupt if they are too large. 50-65 slides should be considered your upper limit.
Projects may corrupt if your PC is struggling with sufficient resources. Close down as many applications as you can to free up resources.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Other problems with loading Captivate files into Flash AS3 project

I have a Captivate file done with Captivate 3, published to
Flash player 9 that is being loaded into Flash AS3. The captivate
is a simple recording of some mouse clicks in a browser. I am
displaying the playbar along the bottom, and its buttons all work
fine except for the progress bar, where you can drag the knob and
scrub back & forth in your presentation.
This progress bar is not working as it should. I see the
mouse cursor change to a hand, but when I click I cannot drag the
knob to control the progress bar. The other buttons in the playbar
do work (replay, pause, play, back, forward).
This is a unique problem in that it is only happening when
viewed in IE (7) when loaded into my Flash AS3 project. When viewed
in Firefox in my project, or as a standalone SWF, or as a SWF
simply embedded onto a plain HTML page, it works just fine.
    Does anybody have any insight?
Another thing I notice with loading Captivate files with AS3
is the the amount of output messages it displays. Rather annoying
(unless this is a "feature" I've yet to be aware of - heh)
