Captivate Flash and JavaHelp output

According to Adobe, I should be able to view Captivate Flash
files when using the JavaHelp single-source output. However, the
.swf files are still not playing when I generate the JavaHelp
source. I am also getting an I/O Exception error during output
generation. I am using RoboHelp 7 and I have inserted Captivate 3
.swf files.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make this work?
Thanks.

I'm sorry that I do not have an answer to your issue, but I
am interested on how you have created the wrapper. I am trying to
figure out how to load my captivate movies onto my SCORM 1.2
compliant LMS and I am a bit stumped. Can you share what you did?
Thanks, Fbudd

  • Captivate 3 and Flash CS3 under Vista 64

    Hello,
    I'm having a problem with using Adobe Captivate 3 and Adobe Flash CS3 in tandem to get my Captivate project in a file format accepted by online video sharing sites such as YouTube. Since Captivate 3 does not have an option to export to .avi or any other accepted movie file format, I thought that I would export the Captivate project to Flash, and then export it to the avi file format through Flash. However, whenever I select "File>Export>Project To>Flash CS3," I get the following error in Flash:
    quote:
    The import did not finish because an unknown error occurred
    I could not find any resources that pertained to my particular problem. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, with a different directory structure than XP. In the Adobe Developer Center article " Exporting your Adobe Captivate project to Flash," it references a certain "RDMFISTUB.DLL" file that I cannot locate on my system. Could this problem be caused by incompatibilities with Vista?
    My end goal is to post a Captivate project comprised of mostly full-motion recording to YouTube. If there is another way to do this that doesn't involve installing any 3rd-party software, I'm open to that as well.
    Thank you

    I don't have a solution -

    something to address the handling of full-motion slides. We all
    know that they are created as AVI clips which are then converted to
    SWF as separate slides, so it seems logical to me that there must
    be a way to offer the source, that is, the AVI or a FLA either of
    which would then be handled separately inside Flash (for those who
    like to do their tinkering in that environment).
    In the meantime, you might try to change the timing of the
    (errant) full-motion slide a bit. Like, perhaps add or subtract a
    tenth of a second to it or otherwise change its properties so that
    the import doesn't end up as a blank. Just thinking out loud in
    trouble-shooting mode... come to think of it, when the project is
    published to SWF/HTM, each full-motion slide is published as a
    separate SWF file. Would it be possible to publish the project,
    then try to bring that SWF back into Captivate as an animation?
    It's late here and I'm getting into fuzzy-thinking time, so if that
    doesn't make sense, it wouldn't surprise me.

  • Flash and captivate question

    Dear All,
    Just a general query (I have tried looking for a solution on the forums to avoid repitition as one user informed me in the past...)
    I am using captivate to build an e-learning module for a project and I would like to insert a flash movie on one of the slides in Captivate,
    for example slide 3.
    Now, I know that this is perfectly possible and normally ther flash swf etc exists a separate entity in the overall captivate movie and
    you can set certain parameters within captivate as you are importing it to the required page.
    BUT...
    Is it in ANY way possible to code the original flash movie so that when it is inserted into the captivate file and the overall project is
    published, it interacts with captivate.
    If this is confusing, I will give an example.
    Let's say this flash movie as stated before is on slide 3 of the captivate file, when the user clicks a button that is contained within the flash
    movie 3 times, we go from slide 3 of the captivate file to slide 4?
    This would work in a simiar way in flash itself, when I take a movie from out of the library in flash, put it on the timeline in scene 1
    and when ity is published a button that it has will enable the user to go from scene 1 to scene 2.
    Or, are these 2 applications uncompatible in the aspect that this cannot be done?
    Does this make any sense?
    I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks in advance.
    Keith

    The scenario you describe is one of the reasons why Captivate widgets were introduced with Captivate 4.  Many Flash-savvy developers had been adding SWFs to Captivate in previous versions but were finding it difficult to know how to hook into Cp published content at runtime and manipulate what happened.
    Widgets were AS2 or AS3 applications (now only AS3 since Cp5) that introduced a whole new world of possibilities.
    But to leverage their power you really have to be an AS3 programmer...or know someone who is.
    Adobe provided templates to build your own widgets, and there are now at least two other class-based APIs created by widget programmers that can be used to build widgets for Cp4 or Cp5.
    Look in the Captivate help files for information about the templates
    Look here for information about WidgetFactory API: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/widgetking/
    Look here for information about CpGears API: http://blog.flash-factor.com/category/captivate/cpgears/
    Is this what you were wanting?

  • What is the minimum browser requirements for Captivate 5? (Specifically Flash and Java)

    I create a Captivate from and upload it to our LMS. When employees access the course it takes a long time for it to load. My IT department is asking what is the minimum browser requirements for Captivate 5? Specifically Flash and Java. This is occuring on PC's and a Citrix environment.

    Hi there,
    Thanks for reaching Adobe Community. Please accept my apologies for the same.
    There is nothing in specific. When you say it takes a long time, do you mean on the LMS or locally as well?
    Try updaing the Flash Player.
    You can download the Falsh Player Versions from the below link:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    Which browser you are using?
    Also what objects you have in your project?
    Does it have widgets or heavier graphics?
    Also are you using any particular preloader? Have you tried using the default.swf preloader?
    Thanks!

  • Insert a captivate 7 HTML 5 output in Robohelp 10

    I am trying to insert a captivate 7 HTML 5 output in Robohelp 10. I tried the steps specified by adding an adobe captivate demo. I linked it to both the swf file and the index.html file. However I am getting an error, that the index.htm file is not valid. Can you please let me know the solution to this.

    Hi, MeeraPRV
    I recreated this error message and think I have the answer. When you used the Browse button to locate the HTML5 output file, I suspect you selected the wrong "index.htm" file.
    Instead, you should navigate to the Captivate HTML5 Output folder and select the index.html file in the same folder as the .swf Flash file.
    At this point, RoboHelp will create a new "zipped" file of all the Captivate output variations with the extension ".cpz" and place it in the "Baggage Files" folder. You don't have to do anything with that .cpz file. It will be automatically managed for you in the Multiscreen HTML5 SSL generation process.
    Also be sure to "tick" the "Use Adobe Captivate HTML5 output" Setting shown below.
    Lastly, be sure you apply the latest service update for RoboHelp 10.01 for good measure if you haven't already :-)

  • Flash and audio and text quality & Documentation/Manuals

    Like a donut i posted in the wrong bit so here are the links
    to my previous questions rather than duplicating them:
    Documentation
    / Manuals
    Flash
    and audio and text quality
    Apologies and thanks

    There is no polite way to say this: You need training to
    learn how to use Captivate to create learning objects for a LMS. It
    doesn't need to be a "long" training period, but you are trying to
    shortcut ALL training and begin at the end. I advise you learn to
    use Captivate as a generator of learning objects (LO) for the LMS.
    You seem to be thinking you can to use it as a "shell" for your
    Flash output and it just isn't a Flash plug-in ... it is a
    self-standing and sometimes complicated - but usually easy to learn
    - learning tool in its own right (by "easy to learn" I don't mean
    overnight, in any case).
    Reasons why include the fact that Flash SWFs are vector based
    while Captivate uses bitmapped graphics. Audio is handled entirely
    differently on the two. Captivate's communication with the LMS is
    not - I think - going to pass on scoring from the movie-in-a-movie
    approach you are trying to use. And on and on.
    Sorry I don't have more encouraging news for you. Good luck,
    michelle.

  • Captivate 2 and FlashPaper 2

    I have converted a PDF doc to an SWF file via FlashPaper 2
    and have imported the SWF as an animation into a Captivate 2
    project slide. I resize the animation by SHIFT+clicking and
    resizing. The output looks great, but if I navigate to the next
    slide and then navigate back to the animation slide, the animation
    is cut in half. I noticed that the animation properties are the
    standard ones set in Flash (ca. 550 x 400?), but I need the
    document to appear as 590 x 740. Resizing the SWF file in Flash and
    then trying to import it into Captivate was a disaster (FlashPaper
    buttons all over the place, and no text), and I'm not fluent enough
    in how to use ActiveScript to know how to plug in the following
    scripting into the movieclip that I could potentially export as an
    SWF:
    Using FlashPaper with Macromedia Flash
    You can insert a FlashPaper SWF file into a Flash FLA file.
    When you export the FLA file to SWF format, the FlashPaper SWF file
    is embedded as part of the exported Flash SWF file.
    The following code shows how to load a FlashPaper SWF file in
    a regular FLA file using the loadFlashPaper() function:
    function loadFlashPaper(
    path_s, // path of SWF to load
    dest_mc, // MC which we should replace with the SWF
    width_i, // new size of the dest MC
    height_i, // new size of the dest MC
    loaded_o) // optional: object to be notified that loading is
    complete
    var intervalID = 0;
    var loadFunc = function()
    dest_mc._visible = false;
    var fp = dest_mc.getIFlashPaper();
    if (!fp)
    return;
    if (fp.setSize(width_i, height_i) == false)
    return;
    dest_mc._visible = true;
    clearInterval(intervalID);
    loaded_o.onLoaded(fp);
    intervalID = setInterval(loadFunc, 100);
    dest_mc.loadMovie(path_s);
    The following code shows how you can use the loadFlashPaper()
    function after you’ve embedded a FlashPaper SWF file:
    function onLoaded(fp)
    // loading is complete, so we can now adjust the current
    page, zoom, etc.
    // go to page 50.
    fp.setCurrentPage(50);
    // change magnification to 33%
    fp.setCurrentZoom(33);
    loadFlashPaper("FlashPaper.swf", theDocMC, theDocMC._width,
    theDocMC._height, this);
    The fp.setCurrentPage value has been set to 50 and the
    fp.setCurrentZoom value has been set to 33. When the FLA file is
    exported, page 50 of the embedded FlashPaper SWF file appears
    inside the exported SWF file with a magnification of 33 percent.
    So what I'm asking is how do I get a 590 x 740 FlashPaper
    document to maintain its size within Captivate without it reverting
    to the Flash default size?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    We have been experiencing some problem with the IE7 & IE8 "Protected Mode" when users are running courses in our LMS. I don't know if the same issue applies for projects which are executed locally from a DVD.
    Just out of interest - have you tried your project using FireFox?

  • Need to upgrade to Captivate 4 and need answers before purchase!!

    I called Adobe sales, customer service, and tech support and no one seems to have an answer for me and they put me on hold for over 15 mins so I am trying this forum for help.  So if any Captivate Gurus out there can answer my questions I would greatly appreciate it.
    I currently have Macromedia Captivate 1 Education Version and would like to upgrade to Captivate 4.
    1. In Captivate 1 if you create Flash demos, it creates an HTML file and a SWF file. I heard from someone who has Captivate 3 that it now creates more than 2 files. Is this true for Captivate 4?
    2. I read in Captivate version comparison page that Captivate 4 has the ability to convert your Captivate demo in to PDF with Captivate 4. If so, will the PDF carry the 'demo features' or will it be a standard PDF?
    3. I have an Education version for Captivate 1 so is it cheaper to upgrade to Captivate 4 or just purchase Captivate 4 and does Captivate 4 have an education version?
    Thank you!!

    We will be happy to try and help. Indeed you may end up with more than two files when you create content from version 4. Is this a problem? If so, why?

    Please restate the question. I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. From what I understand, you end up with a PDF containing your Captivate output.

    I think Adobe has education versions for most or all of their products. If Captivate 1 has an education version I'd be surprised if 4 didn't. But only Adobe Sales can definitively answer that. Or perhaps another user that purchased (or was denied purchase of) a Captivate 4 education version.

I've tried updating this feature both manual & auto but with no success.

    Hi there
    No need to get testy. Lilybiri was being spot on with the comparison.
    The only solution for you will be to uninstall the Flash player, then locate an older version of the Flash player and install it on the Windows XP you have. Captivate is now at version 8 and several years have passed since version 1.1. You will likely not make 1.1 work with Windows 7 or Windows 8. In fact, the only way I'm aware to remotely make it work on those operating systems is by first ensuring you have the Professional or Ultimate version, then installing the Windows XP mode Virtual Machine.
    Here is a link for uninstalling the Flash Player
    And here is a link for the older versions
    Sorry, but you are on your own to sort exactly how far back you will need to go to find a version of Flash Player that works with this version of Captivate. And keep in mind, that even though you finally get a Flash Player version that allows it to run, you will only be able to run it on some form of Windows XP. It will not run on Windows 7 or 8 unless you install the VM. And when you do that, you will be stuck inside the VM and will not be able to record anything outside it in the 7 or 8 environment.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can i Open a Captivate 7 HTML 5 Output in IoS / Android

    Greetings,
    I have been delivering captivate 7 HTML 5 outputs.... but now when i try to open  them in Iphone or Anroid its giving erros.
    Iphone: No LRS: DATA Cannot be stored
    Anroid: enable Java script in your browser
    Can someone guide me (share a step by step doc) on the best way to get this output compatable with IoS/Anroid?
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Debadrita

    It seems like you are publishing with the TinCan API settings, and you don't have an LRS set up. You need to check with your LMS/ LRS provider on this.
    Try publishing it as a SCORM output and test it.
    Also, which version of iOS are you testing this with? Captivate 7 output has not been tested on iOS 7, so you might see a few surprises when you test on iOS 7 devices.

  • Captivate Files and M/S Expressions

    I am in a situation where a web-tool is being developed in M/S Silverlight (this was not my choice).  Now we need to train folks to use the tool.  We want an interactive application demonstration/tutorial, such as Captivate provides.  Can Captivate (Flash) files play nicely within M/S Expressions and Silverlight?

  • We are looking for a developer familiar with Captivate, Lectora and SumTotal for a small re-do job. More in the future.

    We just lost our favorite technical project manager/developer who took a job somewhere full time. This is a refresh on a course she put together a couple of years ago. It should be a fast simple job as she has outlined the steps but we lack the resources in-house.  It will be a chance for us to get to know you. We are in LA but you can be anywhere. Here is what she described as the basic steps - we have the changed content from the client:
    1. Update the Captivate file and render as Flash video (.flv). I used Captivate 5.5, but I am guessing your contractor could import the project file into the online version of Captivate.
    2. In Lectora, replace the Captivate video. NOTE: Be sure to copy the properties from the existing Captivate video object embedded on the course page, so you can set them for the replacement object.
    3. In Lectora, replace the question text. NOTE: Be sure the Feedback text directs them back to the content that relates to the question.
    4. Publish the course to HTML and test. Be sure to test the updated activity and quiz. NOTE: While testing, you may need to override the progression logic:
    Ctrl-Shift-F9 turns progression logic on and sends you to the Table of Contents
    Ctrl-Shift-F10 turns progression logic off and sends you to the Table of Contents
    5. Correct any problems you find and retest in HTML.
    6. Publish the course to SCORM 1.2. There are some client specific settings that will have to used. The way I handled it in 2012 was to edit the imsmanifest.xml file directly by comparing it to 2011.
    Please let me know if you are interested and experienced in this kind of course development. Thanks

    Captivate is e-learning development software not a dedicated video convertor, you are better off trying something like Adobe Media Encoder or Super.
