Captivate for presentations?

I need to create a presentation for a client that will play on any system and fit on a thumb drive so the client can plug it in to a computer and run the presentation. It would not require that an application be on the computer (e.g., powerpoint or keynote). Keynote was able to do this by exporting to quicktime with chapter markers so each click advanced the presentation to the next slide but alas the latest update of quicktime for mavericks took away this feature.
Could I use captivate to create a standalone html5 (or other format?) presentation that advances to the next slide or action (reveal text, fade out etc) each mouse click?
Captivate looks interesting to me because I could maybe use the presentation as a foundation for interactive material as well.
Thank you for your help.
Cheers

LOL, actually it was ME that said it gets converted to a SWF. What you do is look at slide properties and you will see that the background cannot be changed and it lists a SWF file. So based on that, I've always understood that the process of importing creates a SWF and configures it magickally to be the background.
When you said video, I was thinking perhaps we now are seeing a new playing field and maybe each slide would have a camcorder icon or the timeline with a red line through it.
So bottom line is that nothing changed in that respect.
Cheers... Rick

  • How do I upload a captivate 6 presentation into moodle 2

how do i load a captivate 6 presentation into moodle 2

Hi Macot, Here is the solution for your question.
First you need to Publish your Captivate 6 presentation into SCORM 1.2.
Then compress it into zip format and create a new course in Moodle.
Add SCORM activity to it and upload the zip file.
Here is a webinar that you may find it helpful to you. Have a look on it.

  • Looking for Presenter Training tutorials

I know this is the Captivate group, but since many of us use both tools I thought I would throw out the question. i am looking for some free demo's on using Presenter. I haven't had much luck on the Adobe website. If anyone has run across some training on the tool and what it can do, I would appreciate some guidance.
    thanks
    Gina B.

    Hello Gina,
I cannot help you very much, do use Presenter myself. Do you know there is a forum for Presenter? It is a little bit hidden, you'll have to go to the Connect Pro Forums to find it:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/connectpro/connectpro_presenter
RJ Jacquez blogged a couple of times about Presenter and included some video, you can search on:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/rjacquez
If you have specific questions, you're welcome but do not know about real trainings.

  • Trouble installing Captivate 7 & Presenter 9 trials

Hopefully someone can help me get these programs on my PC for evaluation..... I am getting pretty frustrated....
Akamai Installers would not work correctly in IE11 or latest Firefox, so I decided to download files directly. I had to leave them overnight for them to finally load in. Now when I try and launch exe files they tell me that I dont have all the parts needed. (while the link in installer dialog says there are 2 files for each product, the links for both download copies of the same file.
    For captivate I have
    captivate_7_ls21.7.z (big one)
    Captivate_7_x64_ls21.exe (error re missing files)
    cp7_win_assets_installer.zip (unpacks & installs)
    For presenter I have
    presenter_9_ls21.7.z (big one)
(unable to get a second file?)
It is not a permissions issue - I have installed trials for products from other developers with absolutely no issues.
    please help!!
    Thankyou

eBuzza if you are receiving error messages that parts are missing then it means that the .7zip file is corrupted.  Please download the file again using an alternate Internet connection.  If you are connected wirelessly try a wired connection.  If you are connected via a wired connection then try a different cable.

  • Captivate and presenter

    Hi,
I am having a problem when I import an swf file (made with
captivate) to presenter. It comes up by default for only 5 secs
then goes onto the next side. If with swf file is 10 ins it get cut
off. Any ideea how I can control this or how I should be importing
    a swf file?

    Hi cybereducation:
In the Presenter file add-in menu, go to the audio editor and
insert>silence for the slide that contains the .swf file for the
    length of the .swf file.

  • Difference between captivate and presenter

HI, what's the difference between Adobe captivate and
presenter. Do they both do the same? Which one is better for use in
    creating online training modules?

It took me a while to "get it" too. Yoiu can take a look at
Adobe's spin on things from the blog site maintained by Silke
    Fleicher from Adobe at:
    Sike Fleicher
    Blog
But the real truth of this is that they are quite different:
-Captivate Excels at computer software simulations, software
demos and software learning simulations (where the user gets to try
    a simulation test.)
-Captivate is a stand-alone application and not an add-in to
    powerpoint
-Captivate does let you import PowerPoint slides
-Captivate creates a stand-alone CP file to store your setups
and then you publish to Flash, Word, Acrobat
-Captivate does not produce a side-panel to show progress,
but it does provide a wide range of progress bars and related
forward and back button options and positions
-Presenter is an add-in to PowerPoint
-Presenter has an optional navigation panel to show progress,
but it has limited forward and back navigation button options.
-Presenter is more like PowerPoint, but you gain Quiz sets or
single Quiz options and the ability to integrate and embed Flash
content such as Captivate SWF files as a slide set. For example you
can have a PowerPointesque look with a navigation pane on the left
or right and then present the user with a video or software
simulation on another slide and then Quiz the user about the
    materials or demo.
I would consider Presenter to be about as hard as learning
how to use PowerPoint, but all of the options are now on one menu.
I would consider Captivate to be about as hard as learning to
use Excel, where the basics are easy, but there are many options.
For Software demos and simulations, Captivate is the better
    choice.
For Quiz-Enabled PowerPoint, Presenter 7 is the better choice
For e-learning of Software, you can use juset Captivate, but
both products make a good team
Finally, while Adobe charges a bit too much $$$$ for each,
the cost is recouped with the time you save on a large project. If
the products were 1/2 of the list price, they would probably sell
10X the number of copies and create some real BUZZ about these
products for the group of people that are not e-learning
    professionals (a huge group).
The final piece is a system that integrates the Quiz results
for user login and score tracking. Known as a Learning Management
System (LMS). Both Presenter 7 and Captivate export to Adobe's
Connect system in Connect format and they also publish to SCORM or
AICC formats used by other systems. However, the cost of the
Connect system for LMS (not the live presentation piece, just the
e-learning piece) is well beyond reach for a small company (about
3X the price of other products). The 40% annual maintenance fee
charges, limited feature set and slow to fix it support make
Connect about a grade "C" compared to the competition. Adobe can do
far better to make Connect the LMS tool that it could be in terms
of features, price and bug repairs. So if you need a LMS to go with
this, then you should certainly look at Connect and price it (it is
nice), but look at what you could get elsewhere for both features
and support at a given price point.

  • How can I access Captivate and Presenter?

The only way to access Captivate and Presenter at the moment is to purchase them separately.
This is a user-to-user forum. Adobe will not comment on future product plans here.

  • What's next for Presenter?

    Hi All,
Now that Adobe seem to be stopping development of FLASH and concentrating on HTML5 what happens next?
I see there is a FLASH to HTML5 converter, however it is not ideal and is not completely compatible. Will Captivate/Presenter/FLASH now become obsolete or are their plans to directly publish HTML5 content using Captivate and Presenter?
Is there any point continuing to create content in these packages when FLASH looks like its on its last legs?
I understand I may not be understanding the situation completely and I am looking for reassurances!!!
    Regards,
    David.

Adobe has NOT stopped development for Flash. What has been dropped is Flash for mobile devices, with, instead, a focus on AIR applications for mobile devices, and HTML5 delivery for mobile devices.
Captivate and Presenter will not become obsolete. But, there are some great resources on converting Captivate 5.5 projects to HTML5 for better mobile delivery. http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2011/09/html5-converter-for-adobe-captivate-5-5-is-here.h tml
Chances are that future releases of these two products will have more options for publishing in a mobile friendly way, but we will only know for sure when it happens.
Read the actual press release, it is about being more involved in HTML5, but continuing to grow Flash for PC browsing. http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2011/11/flash-focus.html
This is probably the most succinct quote from the post:
"Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores.  We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations (chipset, browser, OS version, etc.) following the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook.  We will of course continue to provide critical bug fixes and security updates for existing device configurations.  We will also allow our source code licensees to continue working on and release their own implementations."

  • How do I put an external display to sleep when I am using my MacBook Air for presentation?

How do I put an external display to sleep when I am using my MacBook Air for presentation? I do not want to go to the projector just to turn it off and turn on again after a while? Is there a keyboard shortcut for that?

I want to be able to sleep the external display and at the same time do things in the MacBook.( This feature is useful for me so that I can prepare some things and so that my audience will not see what I am about to show them.)
Is there a feature for Mountain Lion?

My apple tv mirroring is slow.  So slow it shuts off.  Any thoughts on cause?  I use this device in my office for presentations without a problem.  In my home with a stronger wifi router, I'm having issues.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Will an Infra-Red Adapter work with a macbook pro retina display so I can use the apple TV remote for presentations?

I have always used the apple TV remote for my presentations.  I bought a retina display last year for the betterment of my presentations and now I have to stand near my computer and hit a button to change my slides where as before I used my remote.  Will a infra-red adapter work with the apple TV remote in the macbook pro retina display?  Love my computer, but very disappointed not to have a remote for presentations that does not need the internet.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, I used that and it works great if you have wireless connection.  Im looking for  a remote that worked like the apple TV remote.  My questions is, "Is there a USB infra-red remote that works with mac.  I have found this one: Keyspan EZ1 easy presenter.  It claims with works with PC and Mac and the reviews are good.  Does anyone know anything about it or if it works with retina display macs?

  • TS1702 how do i use microsoft word on my ipad? i cannot use flash on it as well neither do i use it with projector for presentation.

how can i use microsoft office on my ipad? i can't also use flash to copy and transfer documents into it and neither could i use it with a projector for presentation.

You can't use MS Office on the iPad as Microsoft haven't made app versions of their programs (you can only use apps that are in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad), but there are apps that support word, excel and powerpoint documents. The options include Apple's Pages app for Word documents, Numbers for Excel spreadsheets and Keynote for Powerpoint. And from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.
As to how you then get the file to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc

  • Trouble Using Apple TV for Presentations with an iPad

I'm trying to use an apple tv for presentations in an auditorium (through a projector) with my iPad through airplay. When I mirror the iPad (in landscape mode) and start a keynote presentation, the picture is way off center and does not fill the screen. Any suggestions?

Thanks Winston, I've used it before with my TV and it worked well there (although it never fully filled the screen).
I'm sure it's just a matter of getting it to talk to the projector and get synced up. I was thinking about trying to set the projector to display in 720p with a 60 hz refresh rate to match what the Apple TV is putting. What I really want to do here is fill the screen, do you have suggestions as far as settings to match the iPad. The Apple TV and it's interface fills the whole screen but when I use the iPad, that's when it's off center and much smaller.
