Captivate Glossary Widget - problem showing returns

Hi all
Im having an issue using the Glossary Widget in captivate V 6.0.1.240
I am importing a .xml file (created from a large excel file) in to the glossary and once imported the content looks perfect. see attached there are 3 terms under the abreviation PPM each appearing on a new line.
My problem comes once i press ok after importing the XML.
When i reopen the widget or publish the file all returns preview as "/n".
This is not really ideal so i was hoping somone has a work around for this?

I have tried again with a much smaller xml file this morning as the one i have had over 1000 entrys.
I have the same issue when i have a return in the text. Here the definition for '3' is

again at first when imported the returns appear but after saying ok and reopening the returns are replaced with /n.
this is the actual xml i just tried if you want to duplicate my problem?

Im using a Macbook Pro OS 10.98.2
Problem also exists if i create a new project.

Captivate 8 Failure Captions Glossary Widget

I've run into some apparent conflicts between the Glossary Widget and click box and button failure captions in Captivate 8.
The course uses the Captivate Glossary widget, which is placed on Screen 1 and set to "not visible", unless the user reveals it.
A button is available on Screen 2 and ff. for revealing the Glossary. It calls an Advanced Action whose main item is "Show the Glossary widget".
Later in the course there is a practice activity based on a software simulation. A scenario is provided and the user is asked what they should do next? There is a click box for the user to click, and a failure caption is supposed to appear if the user clicks in the wrong place. (Hint and Success captions are turned off.)
Here are the problems I'm having:
The button for opening the Glossary on Screen 2 was originally set to display for the rest of the project (i.e. on every screen starting from Screen 2). With that setting, the click boxes in the practice activity still work, but failure captions do not appear. If I turn off the "display for the rest of the project" setting, put a separate Glossary button on each screen, and send it to the bottom of the timeline, the failure captions begin working again. This is a big hassle that I would prefer to avoid, but obviously I will do it if necessary.
However, even with one Glossary button per screen, the failure captions work only if you never reveal the Glossary widget. If you actually reveal the Glossary widget, the failure captions no longer display, although as I said the click boxes continue to work in other respects. I tried changing out the click boxes for buttons that did the same job, but the same problem exists.
Has anyone experienced conflicts between widgets and click boxes? Any suggestions for how I might tackle this problem?

Right now the click boxes are set for infinite attempts. Other properties include:
Pause project until user clicks
Hand cursor on
Go to next slide on success
Show failure caption
Those properties all work except "Show failure caption". I've played with number of attempts and different caption types but to no avail.
RE: the Glossary versus the button that reveals the Glossary: you may be right that the Glossary per se is not causing the conflict, but I can't really tell. The button calls an advanced action with three steps:
Pause the project
Show the Glossary widget
Show a Close button for closing the Glossary widget (this is actually a SmartShape that's being treated as a button)
This Close button also calls a simple advanced action:
Hide the Glossary widget
Hide the Close button
Continue the project

Captivate Certificate Widget - Printing Problems.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's not a problem in Captivate, per say, but it's Captivate related.
First some vital facts:
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.4
Captivate 5
Flash: CS4
Flash Player: 10.1.53.64
Browser: Firefox
I have a customized Captivate Certificate Widget (AS3) from Captivate 4 that works perfectly. When one clicks the "Print Button", the print dialog box comes up and when one checks the print preview option, one sees the certificate ready to be sent to the printer.
Fantastic. Now I want to save this Flash file as a new file and I want to change a textbox on the certificate that is no connected to the ActionScript at all. When I publish this new file, the Print button no longer works. Can anyone explain this?
I have, in fact taken a look at the new Captivate 5 Certificate Widget. I published it out and it's print button doesn't work either! I took both my swfs into XP and opened them and they both worked fine in Firefox and IE.
After further examining both Flash files for the CP4 Certificate Widget and the CP5 Certificate Widget, I keep noticing that an error is traced to the output window when publishing the files. The error appears after pressing the Print button and then canceling the print. The error that I'm getting is:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.
at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild()
at CertificateWidget_fla::MainTimeline/ClickPrint()
I've managed to point the problem to line 207: this.removeChild(sheets);
Is this causing the problem?
If anyone could help, that would be great. I don't want to tell my client that the certificate that was working, now doesn't work for no apparent reason.

I use Cap 4 for testing. You put a name field in the first slide, then the certificate widget will fill in the name, date, and score. You get a print or e-mail field at the bottom of the certificate.
I used Internet sources to find out how to do some things, but the Adobe free online webinars taught me most of it.

Did you replace the HD yourself? If so what HD did you use?
You should be aware that the symptom you describe is likely to be because you've used an incompatible HD. The current Macs have the temperature sensor actually in the HD package, with a modified cable to connect to the logic board.
If the sensor is not in circuit, the fans will run full tilt all the time.
Also, if it was under warranty, I think you'll find you've just voided it.

Why won't Glossary widget work in my project?

I'm trying to use the Captivate 8 Glossary widget. I have used this widget in the past in older versions of Captivate with no problem. But here I can't make it work. I placed the widget on the first screen. Not visible in output, but available for rest of project. I created a Glossary smart shape button on the Master slides that runs an Adv Action that shows the glossary and pauses the project. On the actual widget I used another smart shape to put a close button that runs an Adv action to hide the glossary and resume the project. When I run it in Preview mode and click the Glossary button what appears to be an outline of the widget appears (and yes, I have alpha set to 100 for it) and the close button appears, but not the actual glossary.
Anyone else run into this?

I wish I knew. I only created the test file when all else seemed to fail. I just wanted to make sure that the Glossary interaction worked in a very simple Captivate 8 file before giving up all hope. In the past I was working with Captivate 6, so this was my first attempt in 8. Wanted to eliminate that as the problem.

Issue with creating a new line in Glossary widget

I'm using Captivate 6 and have an issue with trying to display text on a new line in the description field of the Glossary widget. In playback, a carriage return displays as \n
I read in another discussion (from early last year), that this issue had been resolved and that the fix would be shared soon on the captivate blog for non-subscription users. Does anyone know if the fix has been shared yet - I can't find it anywhere?

Extract the zip file to your desktop.
Copy "08_Glossary.wdgt" from the extracted zip file.
Go to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 (32 Bit)\Gallery\Interactions (For 32 bit Captivate) or C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 (64 Bit)\Gallery\Interactions (For 64 bit Captivate).
Replace the glossary widget in the interaction folder. Restart Captivate 6. (Make sure that you take the backup of the original Glosarry Widget)
Apply the widget again and check for the issue.
Let me know if it works for you.

How do I export words and definitions from the glossary widget in C7?

How do I export words and definitions from the glossary widget as XML? I need to use the same glossary in several projects. When I copy and paste the widget to a different project about 1/2 of the definitions disappear. Figured I would try exporting the words then importing them back in new glossaries in each project. Using 7 on a Mac.

Yes i read, and the answer to the main question is still the same, you cannot export, you just can import definitions if you previously have structured them into an xml file. So, first of all it would be useful to warn the user to ALWAYS start from an xml file BEFORE starting populating the glossary. Furthermore, not all users are supposed to manage easily an xml editing, and the widget itself has been programmed to insert the definitions with a simple method, so it would be necessary also to have an instrument to export to xml for importing purpose. Storyline has the same lack, you cannot move glossary from one project to another but you are forced to start from an old project or insert the glossary itself into a master project. You will agree with me that an xml export feature is not something so difficult to add for the widget. In my personal example, i added about 200 definitions, then i discovered that the glossary of captivate 7 does not work well in html5, the new one in captivate 8 is little bit better, but still not working on chrome (at least on ipad it shows, but you cannot show a button over it since it goes always on the top of everything, so at the moment i inserted a big transparent square behind it to close everyting like a lightbox). This widget is still very buggy and need to be improved.

Calendar Widget Not Showing Upcoming Events

I've upgraded to the latest N900 firmware (pr1.2) and ever since I have had a problem with the calendar widget. All the events are contained in the calendar when I open it however they are not displayed on the desktop widget.
I've got events loaded for the month of June but for some reason these are not showing. Instead I have events showing for July, September and even December. I've tried removing all the entries and the re-adding them but this hasn't solved the problem. I also created another calendar and placed the entries in the new one, again this didn't work.
Does anybody have any idea how I can resolve this problem.

I have exactly the same problem with the Calendar Widget not showing all upcoming events. It will show events way in the future but skip events inbetween. I've tried all day with PC Suite 7.1 and Outlook 2007 and some freshly entered events come across for unknown reasons whilst others do not. No amount of changing local entries to synchronized ones, deleting all calendar info from the phone and re-syncing by USB cable or Bluetooth solves the problem.
It worked fine before and, as you say, corresponds with the recent n900 software update.
I SINCERELY HOPE NOKIA READ THESE BULLETIN BOARDS.
Also, why isn't there a fully compatible PC Suite or Ovi Suite for the n900? I have a PC running Windows 7 and Nokia have told me in the past that they do not have a fully functional, compatible PC/Ovi Suite for Windows 7 and the n900.
IF ANYONE CAN HELP I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT

Creating a widget that shows youtube movies

Hi All,
I'm trieing to create a captivate widget, usein widgetfactory, that can play youtube content in my project. So far I've succeeded in creating an AS3 script that loads a youtube move and places it on the stage. Here's a part of the code i use in stagemode:

my idea was to add r as a movieclip to the stage and add p, the youtube player, to it as a child. When i run this as a standalone swf it works. Or someone who can point me to a site where i can find more information about creating widgets using widgetfactory (Allready looked at CPGURU an WidgetKing).

Xcode is not really meant for building widgets. Widgets are built primarily with html, css and javascript. You can code them by hand or you can get a copy of the recently released "Dashcode" beta.
Dashcode is a development tool specifically for building widgets. It is supposed to be released along with Leopard but Apple recently released a beta that's supposed to run in Tiger (I haven't tried it yet). If you've signed up for a free online developer account at Apple Developer Connection you can logon and download the beta.

PS - by the way, if you go to Apple Developer Connection and do a search for "widget" you'll get some hits on Dashboard tutorials and programming guides (these are not geared toward "Dashcode" and should be useful even if you're handcoding your widget)

New Widget problem

I had some problems with widgets a few days ago which were fixed by emptying the cache, and deleting widget preferences etc..
Earlier today, after a couple of self-induced problems, pressing F12 gave me a darker screen but no widgets. The bar at the bottom was visible when I pressed the Dashboard X; and I was able to use the Manage Widgets tool. All my widgets were listed but I could do nothing with them. Pressing any widget in the bar at the bottom closed Dashboard.
After a while trying all manner of cleanup and repair procedures, gave up and used Archive and Install to put a system back on. All is fine, no data is lost, and we have all applications.
Any suggestions as to what may have occurred. Problem over for me, but are we going to see this again?

Since upgrading to 10.5.1 this has apparently been fixed. But not straight away. At first the widgets still didn't work. Then I logged onto my daughter's account to use widgets and on returning to my account my widgets were back up and running. I hope this was the result of a fix and not just 'one of these things'. I'm happy for now.

Captivate Glossary Issues

Adding information into the glossary widget seems to not function properly. Depending on the number of acronyms I add to the widget, the resolution of the widget output changes (reduces) the more items I add.

I'm having the exact same issue. When I preview and/or publish the problem persists. The glossary is either distorted like it looks in the image above or the bottom of the widget is cutoff.
Not sure what to do - any help would be appreciated.

Glossary widget Not displaying on top

I created a Glossary widget , set it to display for entire project. It works fine on the first slide, but on the other does not display on top (other layers are displayin g on top of it. Any idea what I have done wrong?

I want to add a Facebook widget, it shows in the coding but not on the page in live view?

I'm a learning dreamweaver user. So I wanted to add a Facebook like button and followed a tutorial on widgets. However, when I insert the widget it shows up in coding in split view but not my actual page. I've tried uploading it and it still wouldn't work??? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Help, axis widget not showing up in one project only.

Suddenly my Axis widget that shows up in the comp viewer isn't showing up anymore. It's still there (if i hover around where it would be with the rotate tool, the cursor switches to indicate rotating on each axis) but i can't see it. I also can't see the rectangle that would show the boundaries of the layer. If I start up a new project, everything works as expected. I have tried resetting the prefs, restarting my computer, deleting the cache, cleaning the database. I am using cc 12.2.1.5 on windows 7 64bit sp1. should i reinstall after effects or is there something else i can try?

Check the display options for the comp via the flyout menu in the top right corner...
