Captivate not publishing mpeg-4 video's or uploading to youtube

Hi,
Got a really annoying problem with Captivate 5.5, it's the trial version and until this I was intending to buy the product. But I've just spent a day producing a video with it, the project comes to 1.8Gb so it's not small.
Anyway, it all works fine, until I click on File > Publish > Select MP4 Video(*.mp4) > Select the Apple iPhone 4/ Apple iPod Preset and click on Publish.
The software launches does it's pop-up dialoge thing and Adobe Captivate Video Publisher appears with a second progress box saying "Generating Video..." the progress bar sat at 0% while I went away and watched a 2 hour movie. All it says under the progress bar is "Initializing..." and it does bugger all else. I've rebooted the PC, and tried several times with absolutely no sucess.
The project exports as a SWF and EXE file just fine. But the process balls up when exporting a .MP4 file. I've even tried different formats. But as far as I can tell the sodding thing isn't even starting the encode.
The software is running in administrator mode, and exporting to a file location that isn't protected by UAC so there's no reason for it I've even disabled my virus software just in case that was lagging the system down. But nothing I do seems to make the damndest bit of difference.
Can someone offer any advice. I'm not spending hundreds of pounds on software that can't even export to MP4, not when Camtasia does it just fine.
(System spec, Windows 64, 4Gb RAM, 3.0 Dual core, nVidia 8800GTS 320Mb)

No it's not dragging it's feet. I can deal with dragging feet. If I had to leave my system rendering for a day, so be it. I spend more time then that rendering CGI graphics. It's not "dragging it's feet" it's not even getting up out of the sofa. It can't be arsed. Error reporting? Not for Adobe! None of that peasky information for users from them! No, lets just leave them sitting there waiting while it "initializes" that's real helpful. Sitting there with a 0% bar. No helpful information like "whow dude your project is MASSIVE, this will take a while." no handy progress bar showing how the initialization is going. No no, none of that for Adobe. That would be too helpful. Obviously they're going to charge you so much money for the single most unprofessional peace of tat I've ever had the misfortune to use.
P.S. I chopped up the project, into no more than 15 minute segments. It managed to render out the first 4, how it's doing exactly the damn same thing for section 5. Apparently 15 minutes of real world tutorial too much to expect as well.
P.S.S. It's hundreds of megabytes isn't a problem in this day and age. I can download a 500Mb file in what? Half an hour? Perhaps 2 for slower users. Hell I download games from Direct2Drive totalling 8.7Gb takes a coulpe of days, but there's no problem doing it. As for users without broadband, DVD's hold 4.7Gb, couple of those isn'g a problem. I've got other solutions that will stick 5 - 7 hours of HD interactive content onto a single DVD without a problem. The only real world bandwidth colleges really have to use is whatever it takes to report the examination statistic and answers at the end of the session. I don't think a PC is sold these days with less than 80Gb, and single issue network deployment solutions aren't a problem.
It's not like their streaming system is worth damn, if you're worried about users running off with your materials. There's no effective DRM solution built into captivate so nothing stopping users capturing the stream and re-hosting it. Not low bandwidth sales pitch they've got you on is totally insane. I can't see any way in which this product can justify it's price tag. I can only imagine there's educational material out there that's so bad it's making users wonder why they pay for the course in the first place.
Sod it, I'll program the thing in C++ that'll shave off a few gigabytes given the bloated shite Captivate generates. 1.8 is a sodding joke. I can encode 2.5 hour movies at just over 1.2gb in freaking 720p HD. This thing can't even manage 50 minutes of full motion content, and 40 minutes of still images with mpeg-3 compressed audio inserted into the slide. 1.8 Gb for 50 minutes FMV?

  • My final cut video won't upload to youtube

My Final Cut Pro free trial video won't upload to youtube, It all goes fine but then it won't proccess completely. It get to be about 90% done and then it stops and won't proccess any more. What is happening and how can I fix it?

Are you absolutely sure it actually stops?
Once the process reaches 95% the movie is actually uploading to YouTube (not processing).
Dig into the info triangles on Share Monitor and if you watch the progress, it should gradually change the percentage completed - but it's slow as uploading is always slower than downloading.

  • How do I edit a published MPEG-4 video?

An employee in my company had been working on a Captivate 5.5 video, but she has since changed companies and I've recently been assigned to finish the video that she started. I have a rough draft of an older version of the video she was working on, which was saved in Captivate. The more recent versions of the project have all been published as Realplayer MPEG-4 videos; there are no Captivate files for the changes she has made over the past three months. How do I transfer or convert those MPEG-4 videos back to Captivate so I can edit them? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there
As Lilybiri said, there is no way to revert or to convert this output to a working CPTX file.
One thing you may wish to do that might help would be to play back the file and record it using Captivate. That action may save you some steps.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Adobe Captivate not publishing results

    Hi,
We appear to be having a problem with Captivate where it's not publishing results to a network drive.
We have applied the fix as details below:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
3rd tab along, click 'Always Allow'
    Add
    T:\
    \\my-network-path\tdrive\
I have tried this however its not publishing results.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this would not be working?
    Thanks

The Flash Global Security settings govern whether or not content on a LAN or remote drive will play properly for the user that adds this location to their trusted settings.  However, it doesn't necessarily give you PERMISSION TO UPLOAD published content to that location.
If you're having difficulty getting Captivate content published TO the location (as opposed to playing it from there) then you need to investigate whether or not you have write permissions for that folder.  This is  network administration thing, not usually connected to Flash security. It could also be that there is some restriction built into your IT network that will only allow certain filetypes to be uploaded.
Bottom line is that you may need to check with your IT dudes.

  • Sharpen video footage before uploading onto YouTube

Basically I'm wondering whether there is any way to sharpen up the video footage in iMovie '08 before uploading onto YouTube to compensate for the 'softening' of the video by the YouTube rendering.
I've compared the video's I've uploaded to the same ones uploaded by a few other users and it seems to me that my versions seem to be a little bit blurred. I've tried most of the tricks like resizing the video to 640 x 480 so YouTube compression doesn't have to do too much work and the 100MB limit can be consumed in the quality of the video.
For info, the video footage looks sharp enough in iMovie '08 viewer, I can't seem to find any method to tweak the sharpness from within iMovie.
If this cannot be achieved from within iMovie '08, can the sharpness be adjusted in '06 or in Final Cut Express (which I am REALLY struggling with!), or does anyone have any other suggestions. Any idea on when the upgrade is due out?
Any help and assistance as always is much appreciated

I can't see any options from within Streamclip to sharpen the video further.
Since you are in MPEG Streamclip here (and not iMovie '08), you would have to go through the alternative "Export to other formats..." File menu option to access the original QT structure "QuickTime" option window which includes access to the built-in "Filter" options.
PLEASE NOTE: I'm focusing this particular exercise on uploading pinsharp video footage onto YouTube rather than general video editing.
While the use of different settings and compression formats may help reduce the YouTube loss of quality, IMHO there are just too many issues with both the transcoding of files by YouTube and their on-line player to justify the use of this site where quality is your major concern. Use this site when widest distribution to the most people is more important that the final quality. If you must use YouTube, you may wish to review the following Ken Stone article: Encoding for YouTube Using Compressor.

  • Low video quality when uploaded to youtube

I edited a YouTube webseries for some friends of mine using iMovie 11. It was filmed using a Sony Handycam DCR TRV33. This is not a high definition camera, it is standard definition, but the video quality still looked pretty good when I was editing it on iMovie. I exported it to Quicktime, then uploaded it to YouTube from my desktop (I had read that this was better than uploading it directly from iMovie). In Quicktime it looked fine, but then once it was on YouTube the video quality was significantly worse. Does anyone have any tips on how I can improve this? Here is a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1KPhrnisMQ
    Thank you for your help.

I don't see that. To me, it looks the same quality as any YouTube video.

  • Flash video lags when uploaded to Youtube.

    Hi.
I have tried to upload one of my flash videos on youtube, the only problem is that it lags!
The sound is perfect, but the film only shows about 1 frame per second, when it's supposed to be 12 frames per second. This is obviously nothing worth watching when the picture lags as much as it does.
I have uploaded the same video on my facebook profile, and it worked pretty good, but as I already said, it lags when it is on youtube.
I don't have any movieclips in the movie I uploaded to Youtube.
Does it have anything to do with the settings on the movie? I eksported it in to a quiktime film before I uploaded it to youtube. I saw a tutorial where the person exported his flash into quiktime and uploaded it to youtube, and the animations were smooth, but when I do this, it lags.
    Can anybody help me?

I don't see that. To me, it looks the same quality as any YouTube video.

  • Import MPEG-2 video into PhotoShop CS6

Does anyone know why I can not import MPEG-2 video file into PH CS 6?

    Hi there -
Do you have any other Adobe programs installed? Photoshop CS6 can only open MPEG-2 video files if a decoder is installed, such as Premiere Pro or After Effects.
See this Adobe Help article for more information about supported files types in Photoshop CS6: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/supported-file-formats-photoshop-cs6.html

  • How to complete FCE video for upload to youtube

    Hi Apple Community,
Does any one know how, exactly step by step
how to finish FCE video for SUCCESFUL upload
to youtube? I so appreciate your help.

    Check this out.
    Note the link to supported
formats. You probably want to give them an h.264 .mov file. If you don't have Compressor, export using QT Conversion. Or download the free MPEG Streamclip and have it do the transcode (in which case you would export from FCE as a QT Movie Current Settings).
    Good luck.

  • Captivate 7: How to troubleshoot video not playing.

I've received MP4 files from a client and converted them to FLV. I created a blank project, added a Content-Center slide. Loaded an FLV video file. Previewed in Captivate no problem. Published and reviewed no problem. Load the SWF file to the company Intranet and the slide displays but the video object is not included. What am I doing wrong?

Don't assume anything.  You need to CHECK where the video is located.
You also seem to be assuming that since you uploaded the SWF file that your video is somewhere inside the SWF and must have therefore arrived at the intended destination.
This is also incorrect because Captivate does not encapsulate videos INSIDE SWF files.  All videos are externalized nowadays.  So if you upload an SWF, that's all you've uploaded.  No video.
Additionally, Captivate SWFs require the HTM and JavaScript files that Captivate also publishes in order for everything to work.  If you do not upload all required files, your content will not play properly for end users.
I'm hoping by "company intranet" you mean an actual web server, not just a company LAN?  And if you're uploading to a Dropbox account, you may also run into issues with playback unless your business partners download the entire set of required files to a folder on their PC, AND make sure that folder is set up as a trusted location in their Flash Global Security settings:

  • I have iMovie '11, and I am unable to access mpeg HD video files that I want to edit.  The files are fine (I can open and watch them using VLC), but I cannot seem to import the files into iMovie. File Import does not work.  Any suggestions??

More detail: I have a bunch of mpeg HD video files that were shot on a SONY HDR-HC3 Handycam camcorder.  I would like to edit these into a single video production.  I can access and view the mpeg files using VLC (Quicktime does not work with them).  However, I seem to be unable to get the mpeg files to interface with iMovie '11 -- I cannot use the File --> Import command, nor can I drag-and-drop them into iMovie.
Is there something anyone might suggest to get this to work?  Or are these files incompatible with iMovie?  If so, I assume I must purchase a different video editing software program (e.g. Adobe Premeir Pro).  Suggestions???
Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration

Yes, I tried that.   The files were ordered by their original numbers as imported from the camera, but I batched them through Phocoshop to downsize all of them into a more manageable file size.   I opened that destination folder from quick time  from where it said select image sequence.   I clicked on the first one and opened it.   The result was a large image with an arrow indicating a movie was ready to go.   When I pressed the arrow, though, I realized it had only imported that one frame so there was no movie.   The files are Jpgs and are about 450 KB each.
To your knowledge are there any links to iMovie tutorials or quick time tutorials that may address this situation?  Maybe there will be one I haven't looked at yet.
        Thanks

  • Using Adobe Presenter 7 when published to PDF video files do not play just a blank page, any ideas?

Using Adobe Presenter 7 when published to PDF video files do not just a blank page, any ideas? I am using office 2010 and Adobe Acrobat 9 on my PC any suggestions would be very helpful as the audio and slides work fine though no SWF files work just a blank white screen

The problem seems to be with Acrobat 9. Can you share any such pdf generated from presenter at [email protected]

  • Captivate 3 Not Publishing

I know there are many threads on this topic, but I've tried almost every solution that I've seen, and none seem to work.  I have a small project (15 slides) with no audio, not even 3,000 KBs.  Sometimes it will publish, but with certain projects, Captivate seems to get stuck publishing at the "Writing Tags to stream to SWF" stage.
    Things I've tried:
    - I thought the problem could have been due to a Flash 10 update, so I uninstalled Flash 10 and reinstalled Flash 9.  That didn't work, so I repeated the process with Flash 7 and 8. Nothing.
    - I have rebooted the computer 5 different times.  (Mainly due to Flash installs and uninstalls.)  Doesn't seem to make a difference.
    - I removed all unused items.
    - I did a Save As.
    - I tried publishing to a different location in order to not make the final name as long (ie, my Desktop)
    - I am not publishing to a networked location.
    - I removed compression.  I removed advanced compression, compress compiled SWF file, and Compress Full Motion Recording file.  (I tried publishing will all removed, just one removed, two of the three removed, etc.  Nothing helped.)
    - I cleaned out my temporary internet files and cookies.
    - I defragmented my computer.
Nothing has made any difference.  Does anyone have any ideas of anything else I could possibly try?  I'm at the end of my rope here.
If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate it!  Thank you so much in advance.
    Carol

Thank you for the help Erik.  Unfortunately, I tried both of these to no avail.  It seems to get stuck at the "Writing SWF Tags to Stream" part.
What's even more weird is that I can publish other files, but some I can't.  (I work with a lot of different projects).  I guess it could possibly be something that's in the file, but I'm not sure what since the only thing that's in there are the background images.  Since it's still occurring when I copied the slides from the previous file and I'm still having the same problems, this is the avenue I'm pursuing next, but there doesn't seem to be anything else in there!
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm absolutely open to it!  Thanks again!
