Captivate to capture remote desktop?

Captivate is running from one machine and I'm using remote
desktop to showcase various windows on a different Vista machine.
This article mentions some tweaks to the display you can make to
reduce file size.

a)on the VM only?

Change all system settings on the VM - that's all the window
colours and
appearance settings etc. This sets all the colours you are
capturing to the
most simple.

You could also set the VM software settings to 16-bit or even
8-bit. There's
no need for you to change the screen settings of the machine
running
Captivate.

Mini Mac Remote Desktop and Elgato Video Capture Stick

I have 10 Mini Macs simultaneously capturing video via a Elgato Vapture Stick.
Instead of having 10 monitors, keyboards, and mice, I wish to control the Mini Macs by remote desktop. The problem is the Mini Macs won't refresh the video overlay if there is no monitor directly attached to them. I can establish a remote desktop but I can't see the video being captured in the Elgato capture window. As soon as I attach a monitor to the Mini Mac with the Elgato Capture Stick, then then the video is displayed correctly on the remote desktop. The goal is just to have one monitor on the Mini Mac with the remote desktop.

Hello, sounds like Video card and/or heat problems.
Have you blown the dust out lately? Let it cool for an hour or so.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode).

You can't. RMI doesn't do that. After you have captured it, some other way, you can transmit it via RMI, or plain Sockets, or several other ways.

Mouse not captured in remote desktop session

I have one (but only one) Hyper-V VM which has the "mouse not captured in remote desktop session" issue. I have researched this problem extensively and so far none of the suggested fixes I have found are working.
The VM is running Windows Server 2012. It is completely up-to-date.
The Hyper-V server its running on is running Windows Server 2012 R2. Also up-to-date.
All integration services are offered in the VM according to the Hyper-V management tool. I have tried removing all integration services from the VM and putting them back with the Hyper-V management tool. This had no effect.
I have also set the VM to "Detect HAL" using BCDEdit... this had no effect.
The only suggestion I could not try is the suggestion to use the "Insert Integration Services Setup Disk..." command from the "Action" menu. I can not do this because a message to "Tap to choose what happens with this device"
message pops up when I try it... and, guess what? I can't "tap" it because like everyone else we don't use touch screens in the server room. I can't click it either because my mouse doesn't work. Trying to click it just brings up the same "mouse
not captured in remote desktop session" message I am trying to get rid of.
Any suggestions?

During your description, it seems you are using the touch screen to operate the server, personal experience is in general we don’t choose the touch screen to do this, please
try to use the general mouse try again, it seems your device not compatible with the Server 2012R2. You can search your device in Windows Server Catalog to identify the hardware compatibility.

"Mouse Not Captured In Remote Desktop Sesion" in Hyper-V

This is a silly little problem, but on my 2008 server I installed a Hyper-V virtual machine (a Win 2008-64 system), and I can't get it to capture the mouse.
Integration services are installed and the mouse is listed but I can't capture it. I've tried Ctrl Alt right arrow.....
I'm used to VmWare and this is my first time with Hyper-V.

If you have a Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V enabled, and the virtual machine is Windows Server 2008 X64, after you create the virtual machine, you
don’t need to install the Integration Services, and the virtual machine will capture the mouse even if you remote desktop into the remote Hyper-V computer and then manage the virtual machine there use Hyper-V Manager.
Please boot the Hyper-V computer to see whether you get the same issue. Please also check whether you get the same issue with other virtual machines.

Same no mouse on remote desktop session or on the host's Hyper management interface.
From my knowledge, CentOS from 6.4 build in include the IS, how do I update the IS in CentOS 6.4-6.5 guest OS? Any detail docunment for reference?

Print Screen using new Microsoft Remote Desktop app on Mac

I am trying to figure out how to do a screen capture of a window using the new Microsoft Remote Destkop app on my MacBook Pro. I don't have a numeric keypad so the Ctrl+Alt+Minus on the keypad does not work. On the older remote desktop
client there were preferences to remap this but I cannot figure it out on the new app. And the snipping tool is great if connected to an OS that has it. Otherwise it does not help.

Hi,
Please check if you have the PrtScn key on your keyboard. If so, you can use this key to capture a full screen screenshot and paste it such as MS paint.
If you do not have the key, you can start the On-Scrren Keyboard to use the PrtScn Key within the remote session.

I can successfully ping from host 192.168.12.2 to 192.168.11.2, but I can't do remote desktop from those host.
then I use wireshark to capture packet in my computer and it says that TCP ACKed Lost Segment.

Remote Desktop Consuming ALL System Memory

Folks, I have a Windows 7 enterprise machine through which i RDP to another desktop on the same floor as mine, which ends up freezing my machine untill i donot close out the RDP program from Task Manager.
On checking from the Process tab i see that MSTSC.exe process is consuming almost all of the 8GB of memory i have on my machine. When i kill the present RDP session and start a new one, it starts consuming memory from MBs and reaches to GBs almost
all memory capacity.
I have replaced my machine with a new rebuilt machine alltogether, but still is the same issue.
I have also changed the Experience setting and optimised the session settings for RDP but no good.
Please suggest as it is hampering my day to day work.

I suggest we first run Xperf tool to take a look for the high memory usage:
WPT: WPR/Xperf: Capture high cpu, disk i/o,
file, registry, networking, Private bytes, Virtual bytes, Paged Pool/Nonpaged pool and/or application slowness.
Similar threads suggested that the high usage caused by MSTSC.exe is some printer related issues, please take a check with your printer configuration and the printer drivers.

Remote desktop and screen sharing with RMI

Iam developing an application for screen sharing and remote desktop
the problem is a performance problem
in the screen sharing application server screen is captured and the image is sent to all connected clients through rmi connection
I used JPEGImageEncoder to compress the image and convert it to array of bytes
then zipped the resulted array using deflater.
the result is sent through rmi connection
the performance is so poor
i tried JMF but the performance is worse
i am thinking of a way to send the server screen only if it is changed but i don't know how
anyone could help me to enhance it with acceptable quality for the image

As you said, you need to only send the changes over the line.
Java can not tell you what has changed, so you need to either write some JNI, or do a check on the current image, with the last image. (this would eat quite a bit of CPU time on the server).
It might be worth looking at the source for VNC, and other simler products.
The simpliest solution would be to split the image into blocks of x by y pixels, then do a pixel-by-pixel check on that block, and only send the block if it has changed.
Next thing to think about is scrapping RMI, and using raw sockets. RMI has a fair sized overhead.
Zipping a JPEG is unlikely to have any effect. A JPEG is already compressed.
You might want to look at a lossless compression format, like PNG, as the JPEG will have articles. This might be acceptable. If so, changing the compression ratio of the JPEG might be an option.
Finally, the bottle neck might be the call to Robot.createScreenCapture. This is not the fastest method.

Remote Desktop Connection Expert Question...

I am looking for someone with a lot of experience with Windows Remote Desktop Connection to answer a basic question or two...
I have a WireShark capture (only one side unfortunately) which shows 880 MBytes sent from the client running the Remote Desktop Connection, to the host; but I have no WireShark capture of the packet volume coming from the host to the client IP address. The
capture is for a period spanning 32 hours. I am being asked to try and determine (guestimate) the amount of data that might have been sent from the host to the client... I know this is a real out there question; which is why I'm looking for someone with
real Remote Desktop Connection experience.
Given that if the volume of traffic from the client to the host is 880MBytes over 32 hours; is there any way at all of guessing how much might have been sent from the host to the client?
Please be kind, this is important and I am presenting all of the information I have.

Remote Desktop Connection to VM does not work after sysprep

Hello altogether.
Often asked, but never answered with an applicable solution!
What shall
we
do if
we
get no access to a Azure VM via Remote Desktop
Connection?
Everything went well: access to the VM via RDC was working perfectly!
Then
the idea came into
our
mind to create an image of the VM by use of the Azure Management Portal.
We
found that
we
had to apply “sysprep”
on the VM.
We
did it.
Then we did not take the image and decided to go on with the VM.
But if we start the VM we get no access via RDC!
We tried to find a solution by reviewing the already published contributions by other Azure
users. But none of the replies marked as answered supply with a qualified solution.
So can one provide a really applicable solution to us on how to arrange the further use of the VM?

There is an issue right now where the VM may start unexpectedly after you have run sysprep and selected the shutdown option (which is normally what you should do).

But regardless of that issue - you can't use that deployed instance of the VM after you've run sysprep on it. It needs to stay shutdown, then you select Capture to create an image from it.
If you start it back up, either intentionally, or it is started unexpectedly because of the issue above, it will be sitting at the first interactive screen of setup. RDP is not working at that point, and since there is no console access to an Azure VM, there
is no way to get past that prompt.
For other scenarios, you might be able to attach the OS disk of that VM as a data disk to another VM, and while you could do that in this case too, there is no supported method for disabling sysprep at that stage of setup.
So while you could attach it to another VM to get data off of it (you would have to remove the VM first), the VHD is no longer in a supported state to use as a VM itself.

The HV is designed to shoot mainly in HDV in 1080i. Did you shoot in standard def or HD?
If you've shooted in HDV, check FCE user manual from page 233 in help menu to understand the specific HDV capture process in FCE. The setting that must be used is Apple Intermediate codec 1080i specific to your HV20 model.
