Captivate to video

My client just asked me to convert
a complete Captivate document into video.
Before I tell him that it is going to loose all the interactivity.
Can you please confirm that it is the case.

By definition a video is not interactive, except if you want the Play/Pause buttons on its control panel, but I don't label that as 'interactive'.

Captivate 3: Video Screen Capture Captivate

I'm trying to capture a video on my computer screen using captivate 3 - does captivate 3 have this capability? The drop-down box for "Audio" only have two options (Line in and Microphone). Also, when I click "Record" it seems that captivate is unable to test my audio levels.
I just got an update on my sound card, so there should be more selections in that drop-down box unless captivate 3 does not support it.
I know there are other video capture software out there, but I wanted to see if captivate would work. Any help is greatly appreciate -- if you can provide links to tuturials that would be great too; I could not find any online for captivate 3 video capturing.

I'd be totally shocked if Captivate recorded the video for you and you came back to report things were just peachy.
The bottom line here is that Captivate does an awful job of capturing video that way. What results will be herky jerky hit and miss.
As for the audio capture, keep in mind that you are always able to add audio later. You might use something like FreeCorder toolbar to capture the audio.

Using Captivate 5 videos won't load

I am publishing to the Flash format using Captivate 5.5. I've tried publishing with and without the skin, and either way, the videos won't load when I try to open them with a link to the website where they are posted. They do open if I double-click on the htm in a network file folder. I do not have this problem with older Captivate videos I created with Captivate 3. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why they won't open?

I found the answer to why my movie wouldn't play after publising.
Some smart user named nsukumar stated that if you used text animations it causes problems.
Sure enough, when I removed the text animation the finished results worked perfectly!

How do I add to a Captivate 8 Video Demo

I recently upgraded from Captivate 7 to 8. I have created a number of Video Demos in Captivate 7. I tried creating my 1st one in version 8 and am struggling with how to add to the end of the Video Demo. I usually create in segments, break, plan the next section and then record the next segment. THis used to be easy in v7. But I am not seeing how to do this in Version 8. If it is not obvious for me, it must not be obvious for others.
Can some one help me?

Maybe you forgot to click on the button 'Edit Video'? It is still on the same location as for CP7, very little has changed for the cpvc files except the feature to get rid of popups.

Captivate 7 - Videos not playing

I have inserted videos into a Captivate 7 presentation. However, when I publish they do not play in the SWF file format, work fine in PDF (of course). I have encoded the videos from mp4 to flv to f4v using the Adobe Media Encoder. I have ensured all files are on the local computer and not hidden behind a firewall. I have started over multiple times and tried again. I'm sure this is probably an easy fix, but I sure can't figure it out. Does anyone out there have any thoughts?

If you're testing the playback of externalized videos from a locally published folder then you need to set the folder up as a trusted location inside your Flash Global Security settings.

I stumbled across a solution to this in a moment of desperation. If you put the video file back into Adobe media encoder and convert it to an FLV (even if the file is already an FLV), then it seems to sort itself out.
When you insert a video file, like an mp4, captivate automatically configures it as an FLV so my assumption is that the "not proper" error happens because of something (bad magic, maybe) during this process. Since discovering this I always encode videos as FLVs in Adobe Media encoder before inserting them into the captivate file. Not had a problem like this since (touch wood).

Adobe captivate 7 video capture

In Adobe Capivate 7 video is captured with 50 frames per sec., but I need 60 frames per sec. for capture. Is there a chance to adjust?

There are 2 Video color modes to record videos in Captivate: 16 bit (low quality and low size) and 32 bit (High Quality and larger size). You will find that option under Edit > Preferences > Recording > Video Demo.
You should set the video color mode prior recording the video.
After you have recorded the video, you can set the Frames per second for publishing at that Frame rate, not prior to recording. (Edit > Preferences > Pulish settings).
You can increase the Frame rate upto 50 FPS, but 30 FPS is default and is appropriate in most cases.

Captivate 4 video stops when publishing into pdf

I have created a video with Captivate 4 and have published it into a pdf file.
The video/audio then freezes and stops half way through, almost as if when it was moving onto a new slide.
I have tried publishing to html instead, and it works fine.
Any suggestions on how to get the pdf up and running?

Not that it will actually help anything, but if you can supply me with one of the Camtasia AVI files, I'll be happy to test for you on my end. I do have Captivate 1, 2, 3 and 4 all on the same machine.
Also, I wasn't suggesting that Camtasia could automatically accomplish this. What I was suggesting was that you could open the video in Camtasia and use it as you would Captivate. You could split the video yourself. Pare away some, publish it as a smaller segment that you would drop into Captivate. Rinse and repeat as needed. Assuming, of course, that your goal is to get this into Captivate.

Using Adobe Presenter or Captivate for video narration

I figured it out.
If you select H.264 as the format you can then select YouTube Widescreen HD for the preset.
This will set everything up to convert your MTS file to 720p and reduce the file size by around 30% with little quality degradation in my experience so far.
The only problem I encountered was the video was kind of choppy when the camera panned but that was remedied by upping the frame rate from 24 to 29.97.
Hope this helps someone and if anyone has any suggestions to improve efficiency or reduce file size post it in here.

Adobe Captivate 5 - Video won't play in web browser

I've tried inserting it as a slide video and as a FLV file. Plays fine in the preview, but not after publication and pulling it up on website. In one version the skin is there, but inactive. In others, there's just nothing there. The progress bar continues to move (on the presentation skin), but no vid plays. I've tried IE, Firefox and Chrome without success. Vid files aren't that big (14 and 21 KB, respectively). I've tried compressing when I publish, to no avail. I'm not yet an expert here and don't know what else to try. If you've got an idea, I'll try it. Thanks.

Stoopid question time.
You *DID* know that you need to copy the FLV to the same server location as the SWF, right? (Sometimes folks think the video is included and all wrapped up inside the SWF)
Assuming the video is there, have you tried linking directly to the video? It could be you need to have a friendly chat with your web admin peeps and have them add the FLV files to their list of MIME types in order to properly serve them.

Captivate 7 - Video problem

Hi All,
I recently bought Adobe Captivate. I'm working on my first project at this moment.
Today i previewd my project and everything was running perfectly only when i publish the project my video's will not display anymore, it show me a preloader that wont stop. The video is not appearing.
What am i doing wrong?
Any help is more than welcome.

ok, so this is still a problem. It seems that the way I use Captivate is causing this error.
My process: I capture a software simulation. Export the contents of "Backgrounds" to edit the bmp files. Then "update" the edited bmp files. This all works. But there is this weird thing where parts of the origional background image are stuck on the stage on the slide background layer.
When deleting a background image directly from the library, parts of that image are still displayed on the slide it was used. Can anyone else confirm that this happens?
I think it is a bug, clearing the cache does not resolve this. I'm not sure where to report IDE errors.

Captivate 6 video files not loading on share point 2013

Hello,
I use Adobe Captivate 6 and have courses that I'm loading to a share point site for learners to access. I worked off of my C: drive, then copied the published folders on a shared drive. I then linked the html URL to play the course.
When the courses were built, some simulations were recorded in video mode. I noticed that in the published folder, Captivate creates mp4 files. For some reason, when the course plays on share point, it does not play these files and the course clocks until you advance to the next slide. Everything else works fine, no issues.
I'm looking to see if anyone else has encountered this same issue and am curious what was done to fix it.

Thanks for the reply Ron! I checked with my share point admin and she said that share point 2013 (our version) can play mp4 files, so there shouldn't be an issue there.
She's not familiar with Captivate so it's kind of difficult getting to the root of the problem, but somewhere along the line, when the course link is accessed, Captivate is looking for that mp4 file to play it, and it cannot find the file.
I thought then maybe I would take the mp4 file in the published folder and try to embed the video directly into the course, but I haven't tried that.
Any other suggestions?

Create new highlight box style in Captivate 7 Video Demo to use in multiple cpvc files

Hi,
Is it possible to create and then save a new Highlight Box style that can be used in multiple projects, when editing video demos in Catpivate 7? I can Create a new style by saving, but when I open another .cpvc file it is not available and I can't find a way to reuse/import.
Any ideas? I'm sure I'm making a stupid mistake somewhere.

Captivate 6 Video Issue: "The flash video can not be loaded. The input may not be proper"

I've already published this particular project with multiple videos embedded with no problems in Captivate 6. I had to change one video and went to re-publish the project. Upon completing the publish, I receive an error message on EACH slide that has embedded video:
"The Flash Video Can Not Be Loaded. The Input May Not Be Proper"
There wasn't any issues with the project until changing the one video that needed to swapped out. I also tried publishing this in Captivate 8 to the same results.
Specs:
Windows 7 Pro
Captivate Version 6.1.1.240
Intel Core i5 25-20 CPU @ 2.5 Ghz
4 GB RAM
32-Bit Operating System
If anyone knows why this issue has presented itself and how we can get around it, much would be appreciated!

I am a little confused here. Are you getting this error while inserting a FLV video through Insert option or inserting a video through Video > Insert Slide Video or inserting a new slide?
Re-linking means reinserting the video file. If you have already tried reinserting the video file, then have you tried inserting a different video?
Also what operating system you have on your system?

Users see a blank window after opening a Captivate 8 video

I have created a project using captivate 8. Some users (IE most often) select the video (within the Moddle LMS) , the video opens in a new window and it is completely blank.
