How to get audio meters in capture in Premiere CC?
I need to capture in Premiere CC from an old tape machine that outputs in S-Video. Audio comes in through a Matrox I/O.
Picture comes in fine but I do not see capture audio meters to adjust the sound. In Adobe CS6 I do get the audio metering.
Is there a way to get the audio meter in CC?You dont modulate on capture. (digitising) eg analogue to digital.
You do that once in the system if need be. -

What version of Premiere? And is it Premeire Pro?
Premiere Pro has a feature to export a still frame, which I would think would fix any pixel aspect ratio issues automatically. -
Unable to batch capture with Premiere Pro CC via Kona LHi
AJA's web site claims Premiere Pro CC is compatible with the Kona LHi card, but I can't get the two to work together properly. After repeated tries, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything AJA, but still no luck.
I need to batch capture DV clips from some mini-DV tapes on my Sony MVR035U tape deck. But I also need to upconvert them from 480i to 720p60 using my Kona Lhi card. I should be able to do this with Premiere Pro CC. But the PPCC Capture window won't give me any audio feedback when I select "AJA Movie Capture" in the Capture Settings pull down menu. I only get audio feedback when I enable "DV capture" but then I'm no longer able to upconvert.
Looking forward to any feedback on this issue. Been tying all day to trouble shoot this problem.

PC Recognizes HV20 but no frames are captured in Premiere CS5? (Or HDVSplit)
Hi there.
Recently upgraded my laptop to a nice Sager NP8130 as a mobile editing workstation, and when I went to begin capturing HDV footage the other day, I wasn't able to!
My PC detects the camera (Canon HV20) fine, it shows up in device manager as functioning. In Adobe Premiere CS5, and HDVSplit I can use the playback controls to shuttle the tape around, and I even get timecode feedback correctly on the PC.
But no matter what, I can't get any dang video to capture!
Camera and cable are definitely working fine; I dug out my old laptop and captured the footage I needed with no problem.
If anyone has any ideas, or any experience with this error, I would dearly appreciate any input,
Thanks!Unfortunately, with no success, I also tried that method of switching to the Legacy firewire driver, as it used to be a common suggestion back in the vista days.

Capture error premiere pro cs3
I've got an ongoing capture error in premiere pro cs3 (on Mac OSX).
At around the 9 minute mark of capturing, it stops and says 'Unknown recorder error'. The footage is still captured if I stop it straight away but lost if I leave it for a while. I'm using canon hv30 camera to capture dv footage (not hdv) and can't seem to solve it. Any suggestions?Try a different capture utility. VideoHelp.com will list plenty of free alternatives. If they stumble as well, there ie likely something wrong with the tape at that spot.

Can I use canon eos40d for stop motion capture in premiere elements 9?
I Want too do stop motion capture but when I click get media, the pop up dialog box proceeda as if to import still photos. How do I get the "capture panel" that is talked about where I can select stop motion? Is premiere elements 9 supposed to work with a still camera like mine for stop motion at all? Thanks!!' Kimberley

Thanks for the reply. This is my take on the situation that you describe.
You wrote
The camera was linked to PC with USB cable and then the software showed on the PC what would normally be in the camera viewfinder. The enter key on the PC worked as a shutter release and onion skinning worked. Can premiere elements do this?
That more or less describes the Premiere Elements Webcam experience if Premiere Elements recognized the Webcam.
If you have made a USB connection between the Canon 40D and the computer and you are not getting a Capture Window when you use Premiere Elements' Add Media Webcam or WDM compatible device, then Premiere Elements does not support that simple route. It is my understanding that WDM compatible device represents Windows Driver Model (a framework for device drivers).
I have done some Google searching, and I have found instance where claims have been made for the Canon 40D as a webcam. I post one of these links for informational and non promotional purposes.
http://extrawebcam.com/
Have you explore any utilities that came with the Canon that might supply drivers for the Canon as a webcam?
Have you tried to use the Canon 40D as a webcam with Windows Movie Maker?
Please review and consider. (Also, 9.0.1 Update can be downloaded and installed from the project's Help Menu/Update or obtained online from

We will be watching for further developments.

AVI File Captured in Premiere Elements 8 Only Plays First Few Minutes
Hello folks,
I'm totally new to this. My problem: I've recently installed Premiere Elements 8 and used it to capture some mini DV video tapes (via firewire), without any significant problems (other than a few freezes). Now I've tried to capture some VHSC tapes via my TV card (Avermedia H727). The capture process went well (except that the preview screen was just a fuzzy mess!) but I had to plug the audio inputs into my sound card (onboard) rather than the TV card.
The caputred files are about 6 + Gb for a 30 minute tape but when playing the captured video back in PrE8 only the first few minutes is available (the length of playback seems to vary unpredictably (1 tape allowed 3 minutes of playback, another a bit less). The full avi files can be played back in Roxio or Windows Media Player etc but not PrE8.
Interestingly, videos captured from VHSC via the same TV card in Roxio 2010 Pro will play back correctly and fully in PrE8. I had to switch audio inputs to the TV card (rather than the soundcard) for the audio to be captured with Roxio.
My son has tried to help me with this (having some experience on PrE2) but he's also drawn a blank with this.
I'd be very grateful for any help that you might be able to give as I've not found anything in FAQ although it's not easy to succintly define my search for this problem.
Many thanks

OS Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
CPU Intel i7 2.8GHz
RAM 4Gb DDR3
MB Asus P7P55D Deluxe
HDD 2x Sata II Western Digital 1.5Tb (each)
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series
All updates for Windows 7 and PrE8 installedThanks John:
My PC has 2 HDDs and both are of the “green” variety. Both are partitioned (2 partitions on each HDD) with operating systems on the first partition (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on one and Windows XP Pro -32 bit on the other, the operating systems are on different physical drives).
The tips relating to PrPro are hard to follow as they are quite technical and I’m not even sure which ones also relate to PrE8. It would take me an age to try to wade through this lot.
My point is that my current setup (for all its imperfections) will capture video (via the TV card) using PrE8 as the capture software. The setup must be adequate for this task as the complete avi file is played back correctly on Roxio and Windows Media Player but PrE8 fails to recognise any video after the first 3 minutes (approx).
If I capture to PrE8 using a firewire connection from my mini DV video camera then the capture proceeds normally (apart from odd freezes) and the captured video is all playable in PrE8.
When capturing using the mini DV camera, I select "DV camcorder" in the “Get Media” menu. However, this only supports Firewire or USB sources. When capturing from the VHSC tapes via the TV card I have to select “Webcam or WDM Device” as the media source (I’m not convinced that this is the most suitable capture mode but it’s the only one I can find that doesn’t look for either a firewire or USB device.
It seems as though PrE8 must be putting some code onto the captured video that prevents more of it from playing back because avi files recorded on Roxio will playback fully. I've tried to copy the PrE8 avi files into a different folder (devoid of any PrE8 project files) and then renaming the file before importing into PrE8 but still only the first few minutes will play. My thinking here was that perhaps one of the other associated project files that PrE8 creates might be the source of the corrupt info.
Many thanks for your interest and taking the trouble to respond. -
Premiere Pro will not import a video I captured in Premiere.
I am working with Premiere Pro Cs6, on an HP laptop, with Windows 8. This is the first time I was capturing video from a Canon XL H1. When I finished capturing, Premiere did not give me any further prompts, and when I preceded to try to import the video I captured, it is telling me that "there was an error decompressing audio or video." I need to finish this job by the end of the week, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Can't Preview HDV Capture In Premiere Pro CS6
I can't preview my HDV footage in Premiere Pro CS6.
I know I'm not supposed to be able to see anything in the Capture Window when I'm actually capturing HDV, but it says I should be able to see my footage when I am just previewing in the Capture Window.
Canon HV20
i7 2600K
Windows 7 64 Bit
ASUS P67 MOBO
16GB RAM
GTX 470
Corsair AT 850 Watt PSU
Thanks!Thanks Ann!
I just figured it out.
I'm using 2 monitors in extended mode.
One is a VGA flat panel and the other is a DVI flat panel.
I had the Capture Window open on my VGA monitor.
When I moved the Capture Window to my DVI monitor, I got a preview picture.
It's funny, when I move the Capture Window from the DVI to the VGA while playing, playing stops.
And when I move it bak to the DVI, it continues to play.
Maybe because the VGA isn't digital?
Both monitos are hooked up to my GTX 470 GPU, so it seems wierd.
Any feedback on this would be welcomed.
Thanks again! -

Hi,
Are you trying to capute via Firewire? If so, this may help you:
Try replacing the 1394 driver with the Legacy driver that comes with Windows 7.
Below is the step by step instructions on how to install the Legacy driver. This fixes caputer problems with Premiere.
Click Start
Then click on Control Panel
Click on Device Manager
Note: If you don’t see Device Manager listed, click on View By: Category on the top right side of the
Control Panel Window.
Then Click on Large Icons
You should now have a list of items in the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.
Under the Device Manager, look down the list for IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers and Double Click on it.
It should display something like - 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
Note: If it has the word (Legacy) behind it, you are already setup and you can just exit out.
Next, double click on the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
A window will popup saying 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller Properties
Click on the Driver Tab
Then look down in the widow and click on Update Driver
Then select - Browse my computer for driver software
Next select - Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
It will bring up a list of drivers.
Click on 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)
NOTE: It is important that you select the one with (Legacy) after it, just like shown above.
Then click Next
Once it installs the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy),
it will say Windows has successfully updated your driver software.
Click on the Close button and exit out of all of the other windows.
Then Reboot your computer.
You will now be able to import video via the Firewire port on your computer.
If you are still having a problem importing video after you have switched the Firewire driver to Legacy, then the problem may be with the Firewire port. This is a common problem. The Firewire port will work with an external driver, but it won't let you import video from your video camera. Most people report this problem with Dell computer, but it does happen with other brands, even brand new computers. This problem is usually with the Firewire port that is built into the motherboard.
The fix is simple:
1. Install a Firewire card into one of the open slots in the computer
2. Using the instructions above, set the drive to Legacy.
3. Reboot the computer.
4. Then connect the Firewire cable from the video camera, into the new Firewire port that you just added.
This fixes the problem 99% of the time. Firewire cards are not the expensive, they run from $10 and up, depending on any extra features the card may have.
NOTE: We have noticed that when Microsoft has issued certain updates, it can cause Windows 7 to switch back to use the original 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller driver. If you notice the Firewire device is transferring slowly again just repeat the above steps and reinstall the Legacy driver.
Hope this helps.

I just purchased a Canon ZR960 and have footage on a mini tape. I'm running Adobe Premiere CS4 on a Mac. How do I capture the footage to Premiere? I tried File > Capture but no clips show up. What am I doing wrong/not doing?
Thanks much for any help.Welcome to the forum.
First, plug the Canon into a FireWire Port. Turn on the camera and place it in the proper Mode. In PrPro, click Capture and then choose that camera (or very similar) from the device drop-down. If you wish Device Control, or Scene Detect, chose those. Now, do you get an error message that "no suitable device is available?"
Do not know about a Mac, but on a PC, as soon as you turn on the properly plugged-in camera, one gets a double "bong" tone, and a pop-up that New Hardware has been detected, and is ready to use. I would assume that similar occurs on a Mac, but do not know that. Does your Mac "see" the camera? Are there any error, or warning messages associated with it?
Good luck, and wish that I knew the Mac OS better,

Capturing with Premiere Pro CS5 & Canon Legria HV40
Hello everyone,
I have an issue trying to capture footage from my Canon Legria HV40. My desktop operates with Windows 7 / 64bit and I use a firewire port when attempting to capture from the DV cassette on the Canon Legria HV40. After opening Premiere Pro 5 (not a trial version) I connect my camera via all the correct ports and open the capture window in the software. After setting up all my preferences for the capturing process the software recognises the camera and I am able to operate the camera from my desktop (fast forward, rewind, play etc...).
The issue starts at this point. When i press "Tape" or "Play" then "Record" to start the capturing process the camera kicks into action. However the software does not record anything from the camera.
Does anyone have any suggestions or have they come accross this issue before. Any help would be appreciated.MKoffy Hi,
It works just fine here, same set up, but with CS5.5.2 not older version.(5.5.1 or 5.5 did not work), other contributers spoke of a "LEGACY" driver?, I think Harm Millard he may know more than I do. We are PAL, the camera obviously works, make sure you have camera set at 1920 x 1080 i.And the same setting in PP, however PP should automatcally set that for you.
In fact when Exporting to Tape it is amazing and starts the camera with out having the record button executed., it (the HV40 is Anamorphic at 1440 x 1080 (the limitation for Pro tape) and will record at Progressive, the pixels are rectangle not 1.0 , but the output is i). Do not save clips to another DRIVE.It is best in the RAID set up. according to Canon Specs it records at HDV 1080/50i , 1080/25i (PAL) These settings must match the set up in Premiere Pro 5.5.2 exactly.I do not set IN or Out points, it might have been a good thing to stripe the tape in the first place as it will recognise the Indexing numbering better that way.
I must add the quality of the Export even to Blu-ray astounded me. Nearly as good as the Canon 5D Mark II 1920 x 1080p but, that was from a CF card.
Good luck
Ps. Frankly the Premiere Pro CS5.5.2 surprised me when it recognises all that when it went to work. Because when you used Premiere Pro 1.5.1 everthing was manual, well nearly. -
