Capture aborted
The streams were set up for about 100 tables. Everything was going OK for a few days, but then the capture failed. The corresponding log fragment is given below.

HDV tape random capture aborts in FCP
I am trying to capture many hours of HDV footage to disc. Capture Now is aborting frequently either due to alleged timecode breaks or alleged stream problems. But in fact the breaks seem to occur at random: on second or third attempts, capture passes smoothly over the supposed break point, only to abort again later on. I am rarely able to capture more than a minute at a time. Here are the hard facts:
Tapes are Maxell Professional DV-M63Master ME DV/HDV, recorded on only once
Camera for both shooting and playback is Sony HVR-V1P, connnected via FireWire to:
iMac G4 1.25 GHZ, 1 GB RAM, running OS X 10.5.8 and FCP 6.0.6
Capture disc is G-Tech 1TB G-drive, connected via FireWire (just bought to replace LaCie drive in the hope that it would solve the problem)
FCP is set to abort capture on dropped frames and on timecode break (I understand that this second option makes no difference with HDV anyway). I don't want to miss frames that are actually on the tape.
I know lots of people have had similar problems, and I've tried all the suggestions I have found on the forums. Have I missed something?Julian,
With all due respect, you're asking quite a bit from a single G4 system. If you were back on Tiger and running FCP 5.1.4 you'd have maybe 25% more power, but you're real close to the edge. (I still have a dual 1.25 GHz G4 PowerMac and experimented with FCS2 on it...)
Attaching a fast disk array (RAID) might help a bit, but I doubt the central problem is disk speed. In reality, I think you only need to maintain something like 5MB/sec data transfer rate for HDV, but there is overhead processing and I'm guessing that a system that age probably has some "baggage."
I'd suggest that you freshen up the system by exporting non-critical data from the system drive until you have about 20-30% free space, repair permissions, run your crons (a utility like MacJanitor or Cocktail will do this) and run Disk Warrior on all attached drives. The point is to clean out the system to provide max efficiency at the basic level. You may need to disable apps that like to run in background and maybe even take the system off the net while working. If you can re-gain the original performance, you will probably make it through...
Good luck! -
"Nothing Captured--Aborting OneStep DVD Creation"
I'm trying to use iDVD 6's OneStep DVD to convert Digital 8 tapes from a Sony camcorder directly to DVD. Sometimes this works flawlessly and other times I get the message that nothing was captured on the tape (although the tapes work fine) and that the process has been aborted. I can't understand the randomness of this error. Thanks for your help. mark
Digital 8 tapes
Are you 100% sure that all the tapes are Digital 8 (DV)? Your camcorder will read Hi8 and 8mm analog tapes, and even convert them to "DV" for import into iMovie, but iDVD OneStep won't read in tapes being converted on the fly.
The other possibility is large breaks in the timecode.
Finally, I'm not a OneStep fan. Try iMovie's MagicMovie and then iDVDs Magic DVD for a two step process. At least if you have problems, you know where to start to find answers....

ORA-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server processHello,
The streams capture reader slave will read the control file and it picks the first archive log destination it sees. You can not insist streams to read the archived logs from one specific archive destination, it just picks the first one it sees being the fact that all archived logs in all destination will be mirrored copies.
As already stated in the previous post, 9.2.0.1 is just the base release and you would have to upgrade it to atleast 9.2.0.3 (first stable version for streams) or 9.2.0.4 (for few platforms 9.2.0.3 does not exist). However if you are using 9iR2, I would suggest to upgrade it to 9.2.0.8 which is the terminal patchset for 9iR2 where majority of the bugs are fixed. Also on top of it you need to apply all the recommended one-off patches (which would be included in RDBMS bundle patches for Windows) as per Note:437838.1.
Hope this clarifies your questions.
Thanks,

Capturing aborted because of "bad tape"! Help!
Help! I've been troubleshooting for days it seems, changing capture settings and referring to the help guides and so on-- I am trying to capture from my professional camcorder a Sony Z1-U.. when I go to capture from a perfectly good tape I get this error message--
"Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This culd be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and clip has been saved--"
It captures exactly 3 seconds of the tape then aborts-- I've tried dubbing to an entirely different tape, I've tried using different capturing devices, I get the same error code each time!
I am at my witts end, frustrated and over a much needed deadline...someone please help me!
LeeAnne
[email protected]
or
[email protected]just thinking out loud, if you dubbed to a different tape, that rules out timecode and tape issues. You say "tried using different capturing devices" do you mean different deck/camera or a different computer with FC on it?
Do you have access to a different computer to try capturing to? Seems to me if you've eliminated the timecode, deck/camera and firewire cable, it must be hardware/software problem on the computer.
Also, just as a diagnostic, what happens if you try to capture with imovie? -
Capturing aborted - Any ideas?
Hi Guys/Girls,
I'm getting this well known message upon repeated capturing attemps:-
"capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. The could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved."
footage: Mini Dv
Camera: Canon MD160, connected to Mac via firewire.
Capturing to: Lacie 1tb External HD, free space 200gb
Mac Intel core duo, 2GB Mem, OSX 10.4.8
FCP 6
Q/T - 7.6.4
Abort capture on dropped frames is unchecked.
What else.. Safe RT is checked
I managed to capture 55 mins of footage using capture now with no probs,
2nd tape is giving issues aborting every 20 secs or so. I tried logging and capturing a clip but still aborted. Forwarded the tape to half way through, still same probs when trying to capture.
Hopefully i haven't left other details out, but let me know if more info is needed.
Really appreciate any help as iv'e passed the my brain is frying stage.
MazWhile it could be the tape itself, there are a couple of things that you can try:
In Log and Capture, click the Capture Settings tab then change the Device Control setting to FireWire Basic.
If you are capturing to an external FireWire drive (you should be) connect it directly to the computer and connect the camera to the second FireWire port on the drive. -
Capture aborts when starting first time
I have created many test environments with streams. When I went to production and configured streams it appeared to be fine but when I start the capture it aborts and I get this in the trace file:
Begin knlcDumpCapCtx:*******************************************
Error 604 : ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-14097: column type or size mismatch in ALTER TABLE EXCHANGE PARTITION
ORA-06512: at "SYS.LOGMNR_KRVRDLUID3", line 1799
ORA-06512: at line 1
Has anyone seen this before????No, but metalink comes up with 5 hits, three of which are bugs. Take a look!

Due to a problem I was having with compressor after upgrading to FCP5, I decided to completely flush my system drive and reinstall everything. This fixed my compressor problem, but seems to have created a new problem.
Now when I capture (either "batch" or "Now") i get a "timecode break" error or a dropped frame error after 30 seconds (Roughly 815mb file size).
Nothing has changed as far as hardware. I'm at a loss.
thanks fo any help anyone can offer.

Long Captures aborting at 5 minutes.
Screen image freezes about 5 minutes in everytime I try to capture. Then it starts again but clip is out of synch. Never had this problem before. 4 years.
Warning indicates dropped frames on both the line cut and ISO reel.
Already went into preferences opened up max capture time to 90 minutes and turned off the auto save. Any other ideas?No no no...upgrading to QT 7.4 will not fix this. 7.3 and 7.4 are incompatible with FCP 4.5. You need to go back, not forward...
#47 - FCP 4.5 and QT 7.3, 7.4
Shane's Stock Answer #47 - FCP 4.5 and Quicktime 7.3 and 7.4
Final Cut Pro 4.5 is incompatible with Quicktime 7.3 and higher. The last version of the operating system that Apple recommends for FCP 4.5 is 10.3.9 (Panther) and version of QT is 6.5.2. People have had success in using the Mac OS 10.4 (up to 10.4.11) with FCP, and even later versions of Quicktime (7.1, 7.2)...although some people have reported issues. But QT 7.3 and 7.4 is incompatible with FCP 4.5.
To fix this you have two options.
1) The best option would be to back up your files and erase and install your operating system from scratch. This way you ensure that you have a nice, proper working system. Again, OSX 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 are the best versions for FCP 4.5, but you can go as high as OS 10.4.11 and QT 7.2.
2) Use Pacifist to remove QT 7.3 or 7.4, and install a previous QT version. The instructions for doing this can be found on the Digital Rebellion website. Several previous versions of the Quicktime Installers are still located on Apple's website. A full list can be found HERE.

Capture on the fly dropped frame aborted capture - clip gone forever???
I foolishly set up my Macbook pro to capture the video feed live from an HVX200 camera via firewire... THE clutch interview for a client... Lo: what happens but halfway through the interview, capture aborts and error message reads "capture aborted due to dropped frames".
It's an investigative journalism project, with a hostile interview subject, so no do-overs possible.
Clip not showing up in capture scratch or anywhere else.
My question is: has anyone had any luck rescuing an incomplete clip like this? The hard drive was churning, doing computerlike things, writing, so the information is there somewhere. It's just that the "pointers" or "handles" of the clip are gone. I know with IBM/Avid there's an attic where you can get to weird and/or incomplete files - is there anything like that with MAC/Final cut? Or is this setup "all or nothing"?
Maybe someone knows about a program that can recover incomplete data, good for MAC?
I know, shame on me for capturing straight to computer - I'll never do that again.
thanks!
Jeremyhas anyone had any luck rescuing an incomplete clip like this?
Nope. The file failed to complete...QT/FCP didn't get a chance to write the end code for the clip, so it is unusable.
I know with IBM/Avid there's an attic where you can get to weird and/or incomplete files
The ATTIC in Avid terms is the same as AUTOSAVE in FCP...it saves a backup of the project bins, not the media. Not sure about the IBM attic...
I don't know of anyone having luck recovering a file that has been aborted like this. And this happens to more people that we'd like to see. Capturing one-of-a-time events straight to computer with no backup. Bombout.

Capture process aborts with logminer error
Hi,
We have set up streams on Oracle10g instance on a machine with 4 CPUs. The capture and propagate processes have been configured on this instance ( this instance has the initialization parameter "parallel_max_servers" set to 5)
The capture process frequently aborted with the following error in the alert log.
Thu Nov 10 13:23:07 2005
Errors in file /oracle/apps/oracle/product/101/admin/seqprod/bdump/seqprod_p001_24657.trc:
ORA-01341: LogMiner out-of-memory

TLCR process death detected. Shutting down TLCR
Thu Nov 10 13:23:10 2005
Streams CAPTURE C001 with pid=36, OS id=24213 stopped
The executed the query : select * from V$RESOURCE_LIMIT where resource_name in ('processes', 'sessions', 'enqueue_resources', 'parallel_max_servers');
The values of max_utilization and initial_allocation columns for the resource "parallel_max_servers" gives the values 5 and 5 respectively.
So, we increased the value of the parameter from 5 to 8 and restarted the instance ( some of the initialization parameters are : )
processes = 1500
sga_max_size = 7650410496
__shared_pool_size = 855638016
__large_pool_size = 16777216
__java_pool_size = 16777216
streams_pool_size = 218103808
job_queue_processes = 12
parallel_max_servers = 8
pga_aggregate_target = 1695547392
The capture process aborted again in 1.5 hrs time with the same error.
The executed the query : select * from V$RESOURCE_LIMIT where resource_name in ('processes', 'sessions', 'enqueue_resources', 'parallel_max_servers');
The values of max_utilization and initial_allocation columns for the resource "parallel_max_servers" gives the values 8 and 8 respectively.
My queries are :
1. Could parallel_max_servers be the cause of the capture abort?
2. Can the parameter "parallel_max_servers" be further increased without affecting the CPU load ?
3. Could there be other parameters affecting the capture process. ?
Thanx.Did you try configuring streams pool size parameter of your database? I 've set this value to 200MB, the shared-pool-size is 1Gigabyte and the problem has not been encountered since then. If streams-shared-pool size is not set then the capture uses 10 percent of your shared pool size for the buffer queues eventually leading to low memory for logminer session. If streams-pool is set the capture uses the memory from SGA directyl without affecting the shared-pool size.

I am using iDVD '08 version 7.02 to capture video and burn a DVD from my digital camcorder hooked up by a firewire cable. iDVD properly rewinds the tape but then several seconds after it starts playing it stops and says "nothing captured; capture aborted". I tried several times with the same result. There IS content on the tape so I don't understand why this is happening.
Any ideas as to what the problem is....
Thanks.j/c ..... do either of you happen to have your camcorder set to HDV format while using one step? .... if so, one step won't work with HDV per the following article from apple's knowledge base:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6757.html -
Hi all,
I am capturing miniDV tapes shot on a XL-1. Capturing is pretty straight forward and going okay, except this one tape stops 18 minutes in and says "problem with the tape, capture aborted, clip saved".
When i look at the clip in FCP, it has no duration, but when i look at it in the finder, it has a duration of about 18 minutes, and plays in QT. I tried to delete the clip in FCP and re-import the clip from the HD and it now says it has a duration of 0 seconds, but when i double click it it says its duration is 4 seconds, but still wont play.
can i export a new QT maybe and use it, or do i really have to do a batch capture for just under 18 minutes to make that clip work? Has anyone experienced this problem? I also have my settings so that it DOESNT abort on time code breaks, so the problem must be something to the tape...not sure what though.
i also cleaned the deck, to no avail. thoughts? thanks!
Austinupdate: i just logged 17:50 of the tape and batch captured. However I'd still love to know what's happening if anyone knows...

ORA-04031-----capture aborat in stream in oracle 10g R2 in win 2003
Hi Experts,
Error Message ORA-04031: unable to allocate 116 bytes of shared memory ("streams pool","unknown object","streams pool","kolcalm coll")
I got this message for capture ABORTED. my sga_target and sga_max as 1880M. Do I need to increase their size? stream pool size as 880. shared_pool_reserved_size as 14M.
Based on oracle document for this error message:
Action: If the shared pool is out of memory, either use the dbms_shared_pool package to pin large packages, reduce your use of shared memory, or increase the amount of available shared memory by increasing the value of the INIT.ORA parameters "shared_pool_reserved_size" and "shared_pool_size". If the large pool is out of memory, increase the INIT.ORA parameter "large_pool_size".
Key point: we use asm to control. it include share_pool and large_pool. Do we need to increase share pool size?
Or we need to take other steps to handle this point.
Thanks for help!!
regards
Jim
