Capture audio only selected

When I capture, I only get the audio but not the video. On the capture screen, it is indeed written "Video Preview Deactivated" and "Capture Only Audio selected". So result seems in line with some settings but which one ? How can I change this?
This is my first FCE (4.0.1) project. I made a first test and I could capture audio and video without any problem and then suddenly I could not capture audio&video together. My video is Sony HDR-HC9 but I made a test on my MacBookPro and also captured audio & video together without any problem, so it is not linked to the video.
I compared Easy config (DV-PAL), User settings, System settings between MacPro and MacBookPro and were identical ! I'm getting completey lost. Is there any Capture settings menu?
Thanks in advance for your support,
François.

"Is there any Capture settings menu?"
Yes. Easy Setups.
First, identify the specs of the footage the camera shoots for both video and audio.
Video properties like DV, Anamorphic(16:9)etc. need to match.
Cameras shoot in 12 or 16 bit audio that matches 32 or 48 kHz Easy Setups respectively.
Once the correct Easy Setup is selected and saved for the Sequence, then, you can capture with those settings applied.

  • Stuck on "Capture Audio Only"

I'm new to Final Cut Express. I used to use Final Cut Pro at my old job at a news station. I'm a teacher now, and we got a new Mac with Final Cut Express. I created separate accounts for each of my classes using the Mac.
One of the classes somehow did something so that when you go to capture, it says something like "Capture Audio Only Selected." So, of course, it only captures audio and no video. None of the students know what they did to get it like that, and all the other accounts can capture video fine.
Where is the section where I can make it so it's not audio only? I know in Final Cut Pro there'd be two other tabs in the Capture window where I could change it, but in Express, there's only one tab: Capture. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

When I go into Preferences, I don't see any of the files you mention. The only Final Cut file I see is com.apple.RegFinalCutExpress.plist which I believe is the file that prompts me to register.

  • How do I capture audio only, no video?

I'm trying to capture an audio cassette, patched RCA/XLR to a Kona Card, to a G5 tower running FCP6. Since I want to capture audio only, I unchecked the video box in the clip settings tab of the LogCapture window. But when I capture now, I get a message saying "This operation could not be completed as there is no video".
How can I capture audio only? Can't turn off the video in Kona ctrl panel, must be in FCP.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, as I mentioned, I did uncheck that video box, after which I got the message 'operation could not be completed as there is no video' (& capture failed). My capture setting is to Kona, but I've also tried Generic, but no luck.
This then led to my first crash course in SoundtrackPro, which is now recording the audio I needed. But I would love to figure out why FCP is not letting me capture audio w/o video, so any further suggestions are appreciated.

  • How can I capture Audio Only?

    Hello,
I have FCEHD 3.0 and would like to capture audio tracks only with Capture Now (from a non-controllable device via Canopus). There is no "Audio Only" option in the capture window. Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    C.J

    Hi(Bonjour)!
No way to capture audio only with capture command.
Simply delete the video track in the timeline.
    Or:
Plug your camcorder audio output in your in-line socket on your mac with an audio 1/8" wire, do a voice over record.
The resulting audio file will be a "analog" one.
You can also use a sound editing programm like Sound studio or audacity to capture your audio-in content, and import the resulting file in FCE.

  • Capturing audio only in fcp5

I am rather new to Final Cut Pro 5 and have been trying to teach myself as I go along. I am, however, having trouble capturing audio seperate from video. I am shooting a 16mm film and need to capture audio and video to seperate files in order to synch them for edit. While I am able to capture straight video (i.e. without audio) I am unable to capture straight audio (i.e. without video in the same file). The only way that I have been able to capture audio is if some form of video is captured along with it. How can I capture an audio only file. I am using FCP 5 on a PowerBook G4 - capturing through a "Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge" with a Canon ZR 45 for video and a Sony TCD D8 portable DAT for audio. Any information is greatly appreciated and I patiently await your response(s).
    Thank you,

My welcome also but, as a beginner, you really need to run the tutorials and learn how to use the resources you paid for when you got your applications.
Look in the online help system for audio only. Look in the manual index for audio only. Examine the chapter on capturing.
How are you doing Video Only if you don't understand the Clip Settings function or where it is located?
You can force DV to build separate audio and video files while capturing but it's not recommended (dunno why not). If you force separate files, you can simply delete the ones you don't want.

  • Audio Only Capture problem

I'm using FCE on a Macbook and although it's worked absolutely perfectly for about a month, I'm suddenly getting a capture screen which shows colour bars and has the message 'Audio Capture Only Selected - Video preview disabled' and, sure enough, it's only capturing audio. Yet when playing the tape through, the video shows perfectly well. I can find no reference anywhere in the FCE manual or in the software to capturing audio only, so can't revert to capturing video as well as audio. I've clearly done something wrong - can anyone help?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Nothing that you have described in this thread is common to the application. These are the first instances of anything like this that I have heard. Your first message creates a function which is not normally available in the application. I'm not sure how that was achieved, but there seems to be something significantly wrong with your system or the way the application is installed. You cannot make a project, save it, and close the application without generating the FCE prefs files.
Did you recently upgrade your operating system? Did you do a clean erase of your system drive and install the new OS, or did you upgrade it?
There may also be an application installation problem. You should begin by repairing permissions on your system drive. You might want to delete evertyhing related to Final Cut Express, Title 3D and Title Craw. Make sure you're an admin user and reinstall the software directly from the install discs.

  • Premiere Pro Does Not Support Audio-Only Capture For Some Formats, Such As HDV?

In the PPro CS 5.5 Help file  under, "Recording audio", it says:
"Note: To capture an audio-only file from a digital video source, choose Audio from the Capture menu in the Logging pane of the Capture panel.
"Premiere Pro does not support audio-only capture for some formats, such as HDV."
I'm shooting in HDV and if I want to capture audio only, would I just need to switch my setting to DV?
The only thing is my Canon HV20's HDV audio is MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2, 16 bit, 48 kHz.
My DV setting is PCM audio, which I think is a better quality format, right?
Would there be any noticeable difference?
    Thanks.

Capture your HDV material in the normal way and just drag audio only from the source monitor to the timeline.

  • Audio only capture causes "out of disc space" error

When I cature video, no problem. When I capture video and audio, no problem. When I try and capture audio only, it says "insufficient disc space".
I have 96 gigs on my 320 gig external hard drive, and 14gigs left on my 75 gig internal.
    Any Ideas?

Check these things before you do anything with your system:
*How is the drive formatted?* If it's FAT32, that's the problem and you will have to reformat the drive as Mac OS Extended to use it with Final Cut Express. But make sure you *back up your files first*, because reformatting erases the entire disk.
*How is the drive connected* - Firewire or USB? If Firewire, are there any other Firewire devices connected, especially a camera. If so, disconnect the camera.
What is the exact make & model of your external hard drive?
Are you using this external hard drive as a *Time Machine backup drive?* If so, you should *turn off* Time Machine before you export to this drive. Actually, you should not use a TM backup drive at all for video projects.

  • Audio only Capture

    Hello Folks,
I am currently working on information video project and before I hire voice-over artist, I recorded my voice myself in order to lay out the footage on timeline, however, my FCP3 just won't capture audio only even thou I set on "Audio Only" on capture window.
Anybody know why this is happening outthere???

Randy is correct, it would help to know how you're capturing and that recording the VO to your camcorder or deck will provide you with a timecoded source in the event you need to recapture.
One thing about audio only capturing from a non-video source: FCP needs a video signal to accompany the audio - even if you're capturing audio only. For example, if you connected the analog audio signal to a DV device such as the ADVC110 converter without a video signal, FCP won't capture.
You can connect any video source. A powered on camcorder, VCR or whatever is handy. Since you will only be capturing audio, it won't matter as long as it's a viable signal.

  • Audio only podcasts

    Hi,
Does anyone capture audio only files and make them available as podcasts using Show and Share?
If so, can you please tell me what products you use to transcode the audio file into a file that can be input into Show and Share?
I understand video files can be recorded directly in Show and Share (video and audio) and also that various video formats (captured on hand held devices)  can be transcoded using MXE 3500 so the output file can be used with Show and Share.
My question pertains purely to captured audio files (using desktop and microphone only) and how they can be made available for use with Show and Share.
    Many thanks

    Linda,
The Show and Share is typically used for video content sharing.
The supported formats are Windows Media, H264, and Flash.
That said you can always take an existing audio file and
try to transcode  into an audio only video file.
I tested the following scenario and it does work on the
    show and share.
I took and audio only .mp3 file and opened it using Quicktime.
I then exported the audio to a video using H264 format.
I then verified the Media codecs in the new transcoded file.
I uploaded to Show and Share and it plays the Audio\empty video
    file fine.
    I hope this helps!

  • Getting the following message on Final Cut Express "audio only capture selected video preview disabled" how can I get the video capture back?

I'm getting the following message on screen when attempting to capture video  "audio only capture selected, video preview disabled."  How can I get the view preview back?

FCE doesn't allow for audio only capture, it's in a twist somewhere.
    Try trashing the FCE preferences.

  • Hello, Newbie here,. Capturing is set to "Audio Only"

Hi. I'm here in behalf of my sister, she seems to have a problem with Final Cut Express. It's that the capture setting is set to Audio Only, and we don't know how to deselect it and/or select Capture Video and Audio. Sorry, we're not so good with Final Cut Express HD and can you help us?

Did you quit the application? Are you looking the user preferences? There is no way to switch this off as the whole functionality you're seeing is not normally available within FCE. You might need to completely uninstall and reinstall the application.

  • Audio Only Capture with IoHD - Problem

I'm trying to do an audio only capture in FCP 6.0.1 using our IoHD as the input device. The XLR cables are live and plugged into CHs 1&2 on the IoHD. I've setup an audio only capture preset in FCP but I can't get any levels from the box and the level meters on the AJA do not register anything either. Using a capture preset I made using the Macs internal audio I was able to capture just fine but so far no joy using the IoHD. Anyone run across this problem?
    Thanks,
    Matt

I'm having a similar problem, and would appreciate advice. I'm feeding analog audio into FCP 5.1.4 through my Multibridge Pro. I too have set up an Audio Only capture preset, and finally figured out how to get the sound coming through. I've selected "Non-controllable Device" in the Device Control menu. But as soon as I click on Capture "Now" the Capture window appears AS THOUGH it is capturing, with the message "press Escape to stop" but the audio is no long audible. And when I press Escape, no clip has been created. I have to close out of the Capture tool and open it again in order to hear the audio coming in and see the VU meters moving again. What's going on? Thanks.

  • Marking in and out only selects audio.  I need both

I'm sure this is very fundamental but I can't figure it out.
I've been editing a lot of home movies this weekend when suddenly my IN and OUT buttons are behaving differently in the time line. They are only selecting (affecting) the two audio tracks and not affecting the video track. Why?

Make sure the VIDEO tab is connected in the Timeline patchbay for the track where you want the video to go.
