Capture camcorder cable question

Sorry for asking such a basic question.  Using a Sony CCD-TRV67 Hi8 camcorder, going to a Canopus 110.  The Sony camcorder has a S-Video output, and two (not 3) RCA type jacks output, one video, one audio.  I can use the two RCA type jacks to go to the Canopus, just leaving one of the audio inputs on the canopus empty.  And, do get sound in the resulting captured avi.  I have not yet done anything with the captured video in PRE11 yet,  but I'm wondering if the resulting DVD will only have sound coming out of one speaker?  Would it be better to use the S-Video to capture?
Thanks, Steve

I'm surprsed to hear that that Canopus unit will not capture stereo audio. The one I see online certainly has both a right (red) and left (white) channel.

But, if that's the case with your unit, I'd get an RCA splitter so that you can plug both of your camcorder's audio outputs into the single audio jack. Otherwise, you'll only get one channel of audio.
(S-Video is video only, so if you use that jack, you'll get no audio at all!)

  • Capture camcorder dv video

I'm not sure how to transfer video from my camcorder to my imac. From iDVD help, and from these discussion, it looks like there are answers for much more specific questions, but all I'm trying to do at this point is transfer the video to my computer. With a memory stick in my camera, I get an icon on the desktop when I connect the camera via a USB cable. With video, using a fire wire connection on a dv cable, I can't figure out how to transfer it. How do I do this?
    thanks

Start by bringing it into iMovie:

While there is a OneStep feature with iDVD, I don't think you should do that if you're asking how to import. I avoid OneStep.

  • PRE 7.0 Capture, Conforming & Editing Questions

I have a new Canon Vixia HFS100 (AVCHD) and have just installed Premiere Elements 7.0.   I previously used a Standard Definition mini-tape camcorder and edited the videos with either Windows Movie Maker or Cyberlink Power Director.
Capture Questions:  The AVCHD media import option does not require a fire wire / nor does it provide device control.  (I LIKE this feature since I purchased a camcorder with flash memory cards so that I could import the media through a card reader instead of having to hook up the camcorder.)  I realize now, however that I may also want to import a small segment from a longer scene.  Should the AVCHD capture feature have device control?  If not, can I also use the HDV camcorder capture function instead?   Does this require any adjustments to my project settings?
Conforming Questions:  After I import the .mts files, PRE 7.0 automatically goes through a process that says it is 'conforming' the files.   What does 'conforming' mean?  Does this require any adjustments to my project settings?
Editing Questions:   The .mts scenes cannot be played back without SEVERE stutter.   Audio is fine, but the scenes video looks like individual stills with 10-15 second delay until the next still picture.  Although I plan to upgrade from my 1 GB RAM laptop to a much higher powered laptop within the next month, I am despearate to edit and publish my first set of videos since they are sales videos of horses I am trying to sell.  Is there anything I can do to allow me to edit the .mts files with my current 1 GB RAM system?  I would be happy to drop to a lower quality video setting just to get this batch of videos edited and produced.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    1. Is there anything I can do NOW to get this first set of videos edited / produced on my current laptop?   I would be happy to import as lower quality if necessary.
There are several threads on AVCHD conversion. Unfortunately, I do not recall the conversion utilities recommended. Not shooting AVCHD, I have to admit that I am personally clueless to what programs work, and how well. Others can likely help you there.
    2. What configuration wish list can you recommend for either a Dell laptop or desktop?   I will be editing ~40 horse sale videos per month and posting them to YouTube or producing DVDs to mail to prospective buyers.
I have just the ARTICLE for that "wishlist." Harm Millaard is the "Hardware Guru," on the PrPro forum. He gives a lot of great info. Now, it's pretty much geared for the "ultimate" NLE machine, but he does give the reasons, so one can "tone it down" to suit their budget and their needs.
    Good luck,

PS - if I find the threads on AVCHD conversion, I'll share those.

  • Time Capsule as an External Hard Drive + Ethernet Cable question

In reading up on the Time Capsule, it can be used as a router and for storage purposes.
    Some questions:
    1) can the Time Capsule be used just as an external hard drive, not for back up purposes at all? Is there a setting that needs to be checked to make sure that it doesnt back up anything at all.
    2) can I move files from a macbook or pc to the time capsule via an ethernet cable for faster speeds? Do I need a special ethernet cable?
    3) can I also move files from a macbook or pc to the time capsule via wifi if I want, just wondering if it is possible?

    yes.
however, files stored on the TC's disk cannot be backed up using time machine. also, if the drive fails, it will be very difficult to retrieve the data from it.
in other words, you need to find alternatives ways to backing up your data.
Is there a setting that needs to be checked to make sure that it doesnt back up anything at all.
turn time machine off in system preferences > time machine.
    2) can I move files from a macbook or pc to the time capsule via an ethernet cable for faster speeds?
i'm not 100 % sure about a PC but definitely from a Mac.
Do I need a special ethernet cable?
    [Cat6_|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_6cable] will be fine.
    3) can I also move files from a macbook or pc to the time capsule via wifi if I want, just wondering if it is possible?
again, not sure about the PC but yes for the Mac.

  • Video Output on iPod Classic using Apple Universal Dock and Camcorder Cable

So, after a little experimentation and research, I've found a way to use Apple's Universal iPod Dock (Apple®-iPod™ Universal Dock-MA045G/A) and my camcorder's AV cable. That's right, no need to purchase Apple's expensive and proprietary AV cables. Of course, if resolution is a concern for you, this post is not for you. Note: if you don't already have a camcorder AV cable, they can be had cheaply online or in retail stores.
Here's what my output is like:
    Composite Video
    Analog Audio
    Here's how to do it:
    Step 1:
Get an Apple Universal iPod dock (if you are fortunate enough to already own one, your cost investment is $0). If not, you can order them online, just do a google search for the model # above.
    Step 2:
Go here (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/mac/2005/11/18/video-ipod.html) and follow the details of the article precisely to allow you to output video and audio. Yes, I know it's an old article for the 5G video iPod, but it still applies if you are using the Universal iPod dock.
I just tested this all, so I know it works beautifully!
    Best of luck to all!
    David

For anyone else with similar issues - Apple removed that functionality in the iPod classic and you can simply buy Apple's cables to make it work.
Sadly, I cannot use it at my gym anymore, but at least there is a solution for the rest of you!
Here is the necessary cable in the Apple store:

  • IPod photo av cable question

has anyone had success connecting their iPod video to a tv set using the iPod photo av cables?
    thanks in advance.

if you want a real cheap way- get a set of camcorder AV cables- they work, but this is what you have to do-
    (1) plug the 1/8" jack into ipod video
    (2) plug RED RCA jack into YELLOW port on TV
    (3) plug YELLOW RCA jack into WHITE port on TV
    (4) plug WHITE RCA jack into RED port on TV

  • Cable question (Older SB & bundled speake

Hoping someone here can answer this question. A few years ago I the Creative Soundblaster Li've! x-Gamer 5. and the Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500 speaker system.
I had been using the two with the tandem audio cable that came with them. This works fine. However my desk configuration has changed and two problems present themselves. First, the cable is now way too short and second the computer is no longer in a place where I can easilly swap the speaker cable with my headphones.
So what I'd like to do is connect my heaphones to the standard analog out (that I've been using) and connect the speakers through the "Digital out jack". Problem? In the course of two moves all the little extra connectors and wires have long since disappeared into the ether.
I've got the two manuals out here and the only name I can find for the digital cable is "Digital DIN" connected to a "Minijack-to-DIN". The Digital DIN connects to the speakers, then to the minijack converter and it to the soundcard. Searching for "Digital DIN" or "Minijack-to-DIN" gets me exactly nowhere on either Creative's store or anywhere else.
    I did find this: http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=58&product=0370 &nav=features
Which looks like the adater I need? However it doesn't seem to be for sale anymore. Frustrating. :\
Help! Where the heck do I find these things?

The adapter for the DTT2500 is here:

I didn't find the mini-DIN cable itself. However, I'd suggest calling the non-technical Customer Support number and approach this as requesting some replacement parts for your speakers.

  • Import video, cable question

First off i just bought my first MBP and am new to transfering video to computer.
I have a sony handycam that requires a 4 pin ILink (IEEE 1394)cable. I have the new 17" MBP. I believe it has a 9 pin firewire port, is this correct? If so would i need a 9 pin to 4 pin firewire cable?
    thanks in advance

Exactly. You need a 9-pin to 4-pin FireWire cable. Here's AN EXAMPLE from Amazon, but they are available many places.
Note that for transferring video to iMovie, for example, you would generally set the camcorder to playback mode (not to PC mode).

  • IPod USB 2.0 only ( with dock to USB/FW Cable ) question

    Hi
I at last want to buy me an iPod but ...
Since the iPods are USB 2.0 now & my Mac has USB 1.x & FW 400 , you understand for using the iPod as an external & preferred bootable HD I need a FW connection to the Mac ( for data transfer ) & if i read correct this splitter cable only uses the FW for loading the iPods Battery. If so this means i still need to connect via USB for music / data transfer & the bootable HD option ain't there .
I really want to clear this out cause if this info as i just provided it , this will make the iPod less interresting to me & iPod mini doesn't support a camera / mic connection which also makes that less interesting.
At the end if above info is correct i rather wait to buy an iPod together with a new Mac ( do new Mac's with usb 2.0 support bootinf from a usb 2.0 HD ??? )
Please answer this asap cause i need to tell the person what gift i want & god i want to tell him " Just get me that iPod " ( it's in the right pricerange )
    thx

Hello....I just purchased a brand new iPod 20gb color photo last night and I have a couple questions myself, relating to this topic.....
I have a first generation scroll wheel iPod that this is replacing but I still have all the accessories from the first generation iPod....do you know for certain if the charger from way back then will work with the brand new iPod....I know the actual firewire cable is different because of the dock connector but if I purchase one of the new firewire cable w/ dock connector can I use it with the old charger (brick)

  • Capturing camcorder via Extigy front firewire p

    Greetings,
I have a Soundblaster Audigy Platinum Ex sound card and would like to use the front firewire port on the Extigy. My camcorder which is a Panasonic NV-GS200 is recognised when using the back firewire port but not when through the external Extigy dri've, which is much more convenient. I am running Windows XP SP2 and am using Ulead Video Studio 8 as the capture software. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it's
    Thanks
    Victoria

Windows 7 Changed the standard 1394 driver from XP which allows Win 7 to Throttle bandwidth on Firewire devices. This is why Ann mentioned the legacy driver which is basically the old XP driver. The bandwidth throttling causes allot of issues with certain cameras during the Handshake process which is why you often have deck control but no preview or primary video stream. If you follow the instructions in the link above or the paste below to set the Legacy driver for the 1394 controller , that will often resolve these issues. However some firmware on different manufacturers Firewire controllers include these C-State Bandwidth throttling sets so it still may not work. In that case you want to get a Firewire card with a TI chipset. The firmware on TI chips are clean and dont include the C-State changes.
Solution 6: Use the Legacy FireWire driver (Windows 7 x64)
Click the Windows Start button; type "device manager" into the Search box and select Device Manager
Swivel open the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" item
Right-click on your listed 1394 controller; select "Update Driver Software"
Click the "Browse my computer for driver software" button, followed by the "Let me pick from a list" button
Select the option that has "(Legacy)" at the end of the name; click Next and let Windows install the driver
Make sure you restart the system after you make the change to legacy. Also do not have the Firewire device plugged in when changing the driver to Legacy.
Close out of dialogs and retry capture'

  • Camcorder compatibility question

I'm hoping someone can help me. I've tried seaching on the Apple site, but have not been able to find out if the Sony HDR-HC3 is compatible with an i-Mac G5 using FCE HD.
Also, any opinions on the camera? I occasionally shoot weddings and student-age-group musical performances using 3-5 cameras, then edit them down to DVDs. I need to replace my Sony PC110 with a newer camera. I noticed that the HDR-HC3 will use standard as well as High def tapes, which, considering the fact that I am in the midst of transitioning, appeals to me. Any opinions/info?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gary

I HAVE the camcorder and love it. There is an issue, however that I am experiencing: IN FCE 3.5.1, I cannot capture using Capture Now with ability to control camcorder. Just a big letterbox capture window pops up and a note "to stop capturing, press the esc key". This is annoying and I just called Apple about it. They aren't sure, but say it may just not be a supported camera as of yet. They advised me to use iMovie to create cips (which the camera IS supported in) then import clips into FCE.
Not an ideal solution, but for now, I have no other alternative.
Let me know if you have found anything else out.

  • FX5900XT VTD to TV cabling questions

Does anyone here know what cables I need to connect one of these cards into my Sony TV?
The two will be about 1m away from each other, and I lost my cables that came iwth the graphics cards.
My Sony TV has one of those (SVideo?) connecters, like a 9pin mini DIN or PS2-type connector (Like the one in the graphics cards. What are the correct name for these cables and connections? Anyone know?
Does anyone know whre in the UK you can get replacement cables for your MSI graphics cards (I'm still trying MSi UK)?
Any (I mean ANY) help much appreciated!

MSi replied and offered to replace the parts for me, free of charge.
Great people! Shame I can't telephone them directly and enquire, but a great resolution to an obscure problem.
Myogen, I know I may have answered my own question, but I was not sure of the correct terminology for the cable type. Now I do, I'll be ordering some
So, if you break the cables or lose them, call MSI, they *might* give to replacements for FREE

  • Damage power cable question

My apartment had about 30 inches of water in it the past day or so. I forgot to move the 3 prong cable that plugs into the wall. Is was sitting in the water. My first question is can the cable be salvaged. My second is, where can I get a cheap replacement? Will the link below work on my summer 09 Macbook Pro 13"?
    http://www.amazon.com/APPLE-PowerBook-iBook-Square-922-5463/dp/B000X7GJOG

If only the AC cord was underwater, and not the adapter brick, the cord will be fine once it's totally dry. If the brick was underwater, discard and replace it.
If you want to replace the cord, the one you've linked will be fine.

  • Cable question. Hook-up Audigy2

Good day,?I have recently got the above card and want to install it to my Denon 3802 reciever. I have a full 7. theatre hooked up. I have been doing some research and am a little confused on which avenue to go. If I buy the sound blaster home theatre cables (mini-RCA 3 channel), will I be loosing any quality in sound or performance than using the digital out?If I use the digitial out, I have read that it simply sends a compressed stream to the reciever. Does it send the stream in full 7.
When I configure my settings in XP, does it matter what the speaker configuration is like if I choose a digitial output. I would really like to just set it up with digital, but I dont like the mini to rca plug to coax option. I was hoping for a Toslink type option but I already tried that and it didnt work. Also, I dont mind going with the mini-rca cables, but they want 40 dollars to ship to canada and?the item is only 5 dollars. argh. Thanks in advance. Nate?

Durendal,?thx for the reply. So, now I have a second question that you might be able to help with. If I download a Divx or Xvid movie I would imagine that it has been encoded in?DD or DTS. Sometimes it will say ie:The.Bourne.Supremacy.2004.DVDRip.AC3.Xvi... will that signal be passed through via digital coax to my reciever to be decoded? And/Or does the Audigy card know enough with those?audio types to decode and send to the proper speakers with the 3.5mm. Prior to getting this card, I had an onboard optical out that I had hooked up to the reciever. The most I ever got out of that was stereo. The reciever then had to use ProLogic 2 to work its magic. I have yet to get anything downloaded to play it audio how it should be played ie: a DVD audio signal in DD or DTS. Thx again.

  • 24" LED Cinema Display Extension Cable Question

Hi, I have a 24" LED Cinema Display. Unfortunately the display's cable is too short which means I have to have the cable in front of the desk in order to reach my Mac Pro. I don't like having it in front of the desk as it's an eyesore.
I've had it like this since I purchased the display in March 2009. I was thinking of purchasing an extension cable for my Display so I can finally put the displays cable behind the desk.
I have some questions, Are there any issues with having an extension cable attached to the 24" LED Cinema Display? Is there a loss in picture quality with an extension cable? What extension cables do you guys recommend?
    Any help is greatly appreciate
