Capture dv footage on hdv camera audio disappearing ?

Problem with audio while capturing dv footage to fcp7 from my Canon xha1s
The footage is shot on down conversion dv settings from the Canon xha1s
The tapes also contain footage shot on a Sony vx1000 and a Canon gl-2
Heres where it gets weird
The footage from all three cameras plays back with audio perfectly no issue on the camera
The footage captures into fcp7 with audio synced and everything
everything i even put it on the timeline and it played back perfectly
BUT when i go to file the footage from the "capture scratch" folder Theres NO audio
Where normal clips read "untitled01.mov" These clips read "untitled01-v"
I get it. Video only. Can't find any settings change to fix this.
I found a way to make fcp7 press out the "untitled01-a" & "untitled01-v" which i could then file. Sync in editor and use just fine
But the type of footage im editing literally gives me hundreds and hundreds of clips and that process is simply too meticulous
And is out of the queststion
Please How do i capture both of these -a -v files as one simple .mov format video in this instance
It seems like because im getting the audio captured at one point, this problem would be solved by some obscure box that i need to check that i just can't find for some reason

In FCP, go to the menu Final Cut Pro > System Settings and on the scratch disks tab, make sure Video Capture and Audio Capture are routed to the same drive destination:
Then click OK.

  • Unable to capture DV footage from HDV camera

I am trying to capture from a dv tape using the Sony HVR-Z1E, but I keep getting the following message:
Unable to initialize capture device and device control........ This might also happen if you play DV footage in an HDV device.
I have tried changing the settings on the camera but to no avail.

    Hi James,
This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem:
First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
    Still not working?
Check whether iMovie recognises your camera.
FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
Follow Apple's instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite harmless!
But if the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
Let us know how you get on!

  • HELP NEEDED CAPTURE DV FOOTAGE WITH HDV VIDEO CAMERA

I'm trying to capture DV video footage I've done years ago with my Sony DCR-HC40E PAl into FCP version 6. with my new camera HDV video Sony HDR-HC7 1080.i/mini dv so I can capture it into FCP but it's jerky, An yone know the setting for both the HDv camera and FCP to get the footage perfect as the rginal video.
    Cheers

From the FCP menu bar: Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup > DV-PAL > OK. (Use DV PAL Anamorphic if you shot wide screen).
Menu bar once more: Sequence > Settings > Set Sequence Preset > OK.
That camera should detect the DV format tape and playback with the correct settings automatically.
All you ned to do is connect it via FireWire and capture.
For everything else, here's the manual for that camera: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/HDRHC5.pdf

  • Uploading footage from HDV camera

I'm having trouble getting FCP to connect with my Sony HDR-FX1E in 1080i format but it will work in DV. Only problem is all my filming was done in 1080i format and i can't download it. i have tried almost every combination i can think of in Audio/video settings and nothing will work if anyone can help that would be great cos i only have 2 days to get going on my editing. and have somthing to show.

    OK
I setup my Z1U with recorded HDV footage then used setup easy set to HDV 1080i with firewire into my Mac. I'm not much on logging and batch capturing but it worked for my. I don't work like this because HDV doesn't take up that much room on the drives. What else can I help you with.

  • I've tried 2 different screen capture devices, and in both cases, audio stops recording after 20 or 30 seconds, but video is fine.  The audio disappears

I've tried 2 different screen capture devices, and in both cases, audio stops recording after 20 or 30 seconds, but video is fine.  The audio disappears with both programs.  Does anyone know what is happening with my audio capture?

Update, I took the webcam home over the weekend and tried on my home network and the outcome was the same video fine - audio delayed, is this a Skype for desktop issue?

  • Trouble with JVC GY-HD100: trying to capture in DV NOT HDV

    Hello all!
First let me say I am a long-time reader of these boards and they have saved me on many, many occasions. However, this is my first post!
I have used FCP for over 6 years with my trusty Canon XL1 and XL1s with relatively few issues. I recently shot a feature in HDV using the JVC GY-HD100 (in 720p 24 no less - yes, yes, I know, what a mess). I used the Firestore Pro-HD to store the footage, which added additional fun getting those m2t files onto the computer and into FCP. What a headache it was jumping from DV to HDV systems, getting the very pricey HD monitor and AJA Kona LH card, etc. Believe it or not, my HDV workflow has equalized and I successfully edited the feature in FCP (everything worked pretty smoothly once I got all the footage into FCP).
Anyway, that was a complete digression from my issues right now. I got a corporate job that required two cameras, so I decided to use my XL1 and new JVC (my other XL1 is broken) . The job did not require HDV, so I used the JVC in standard DV mode. I figured I could always capture the miniDV tapes in my XL1 (broken one is now deck, ha, ha). Well, the tapes recorded in the JVC camera do not register timecode in the XL1 (picture looks ok though) and the audio is a little scratchy.
So I decided to try capturing the footage from the JVC. Now the problem is I cannot get FCP or what seems to be the computer itself to recognize the JVC in DV mode. I have two editing systems:
    #1 Dual 2 GHz G5, OSX 10.4.7, QT 7.1.2, FCP HD 5.1.1
    #2 Dual 800 MHz G4, OSX 10.3.9, QT 7.1.2 , FCP HD 4.5
(I use #1 for HDV and #2 for DV)
I've tried getting FCP to recognize the JVC on both systems and it cannot find it. iMovie cannot find it either. Even though the JVC GY-HD100 is not on the list of approved cameras for NTSC capture (only for 720p 30 HDV), I've read on the boards of others who have used it in standard DV mode without issue. So now I am trying to figure out if there is something wrong with the firewire port on the camera. Here is something that is fishy: under the system profiler, usually a firewire device like a camera will show up under the bus (my XL1 does), but the JVC does not.
I've tried the trashing prefs, trashing QT pkgs and reinstalling, repairing permissions, etc., which are all in effort to get FCP to work, but I'm not even sure that this is a FCP issue, it might be a firewire issue.
So after my long-winded post (sorry!!), has anyone here used the JVC GY-HD100 to capture DV footage into FCP and did you have to do anything special to get the computer/FCP to recognize the camera. I guess I can also use my Kona LH board using the video out from the camera (and bypass the firewire), but I've never used it for SD/analog capture before, so if anyone has experience with the settings for that scenario, that would be great also. I mostly use my Kona to output the HDV to my HD preview monitor.
Ugh...needless to say I'm stuck in the middle of a project with half its tapes captured. Thank you very much in advance for your help!

  • Can't capture from my cannon video camera to Final Cut or iMovie.

Hi. I can't capture from my cannon video camera to FInal Cut or iMovie. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my iMac is recognizing the camera. I was told I don't need a firewire, that USB would work if I'm just capturing. If I need a firewire what kind (the one I was sold didn't fit). I'm getting an "unable to locate external device message". Not sure of next steps to try. Thanks.

Forget USB for capturing from tape. USB is only for stills from a Tape Based camera.
    You require a firewire cable.
The camera connection end will be four pin and the Mac is nine pin to the 800 port.
Ask for a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. Sounds like you have the wrong one as they can also be 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 pin!!
Also you will need the correct Easy Setup in FCE so FCE talk to the camera, exactly which one depends on what type of footage is being sent to FCE from the camera during capture.

  • Cannot capture dv footage from canon ax h1 on final cut pro

    hi there,
i shot a wedding over the summer on a canon ax h1, which belonged to the bride and i didn't have much experience with it. i shot the whole wedding, and now when i went to capture the footage the audio and video are not showing up.
there is timecode there, and i was definetely shooting to the tape when i recorded the wedding as the camera told me how much time was left on the tape and displayed the timecode. if anybody has any ideas on what this problem could be, please let me know, thanks alot.

  • Adobe Premiere elements 10 has lost HDV camera in device manager..help

Our Sony V1E camera was recognised in Adobe Premiere Elements and we could capture footage fine.. suddenly the device manager can't see the camera..but ..strangely..it can play and rewind the camera etc etc.. just cannot capture?? waht has gone wrong?? It's connected with firewire.
    Help?

All our configs are for Pal HDV 1080i mode in camera and Adobe element project preset is Pal HDV HDV 1080i 25 to match camera.
The elements device manager can shuttle the tape in the camera forward/back etc but cannot capture in the HDV capture mode
If we put the device manager into DV mode it will capture the footage even though the camera is in HDV mode?
Previously the device manager captured the HD footage and recognised the camera itself in the window and suddenly it doesnt recognise the camera in that window and can only capture HDV footage if we go to capture mode for DV camera where it only recognises a Micorsoft DV camera VC generic setting??
That tells me that the port and cable are working perfectly.
Could a setting in Premiere elements be wrong??    DV/HDV device control is selected in preferences. HD anomorphic is also selected.

  • My HDV camera is recognised, but no image or data appears in log window?

I'm trying to download footage from my Sony HDV camera. FCStudio recognises the camera, device control works, but no data or image appears in the log and capture window. I've reinstalled FCP, trashed preferences, still doesn't work. Help please...

My camera HDVA1P is considered 'not supported' by apple, therefore inconsistent. That's why sometimes it downloads and sometimes not with FCStudio 5.1. I upgraded to OS10.4.8 and FCS5.1.2 and it seems to be downloading again. We will see how long it lasts. By the way, Apple Support was incapeable of giving me this simple solution because the list of cameras supported is North America-centric and does not list the PAL professional version of my camera. My camera salesman was able to tell me the equivilent that does appear in the list.

  • Viewing External video through HDV Camera!?

I am trying to record some footage on to an HDV tape. The camera I am attempting to use as a deck is the Sony HDR-HC5 (it is a consumer based camera) I have my sequence set up as the preset for HDV1080i. But for some reason I can not get an image on the camera to show up. When I change the input on the camera to DV, I can see an image. But not when I change it back to HDV.
If anyone knows if this camera can actually take an hdv input that woud be great!
    Cheers,

    Hi,
Are you recording a video or capturing (then trying to monitor your HDV footage externally?
You need a capture card to monitor HDV.
Also there are some threads reporting specific issues with your camera model,
Use the the search tool of the forum to check out topics about the HC5.
