Capture Edirol V-8 into FCP - help please!

OK, here's my setup:
2 - Panasonic DVX100B's
1- MacPro (Quad)
1- Edirol V-8 (http://www.edirol.net/products/en/V-8/index.html)
FCP software
Here is my dilemma. I just bought the Edirol V-8 video mixer but have not gotten it yet. It does everything that I need it to do in a video mixer, but it does not have a Firewire output.
I do a 2-camera shoot (1 side, 1 overhead). I am trying to mix these signals on-the-fly thus avoiding a lot of FCP editing in post.
My question(s): What is the best way to capture the signal directly into FCP (using capture now) from the V-8? It has BNC and S-Video outputs but I've heard that these signals are of a low quality. I need this to be SD, DVD quality.
Do I need a card like a Aja Kona LS SD to capture the S-Video or BNC signal to FCP?

Should I return the V-8 and get something else that is in the $2K price range?
Should I get a miniDV deck, hook up the cameras to the V-8, then the V-8 to the miniDV deck and then go firewire into FCP?
I am "learning as I go" here, so ANY help is greatly appreciated!

Before you buy...make sure FCP will recognize the unit as a DV device...DON't take a salespersons advice on this factor.
We have the Videonics (now Focusinfo) MXProDV 4 channel switcher...4 analog in/2 out - 2DV in / 1 out.
We have two issues...FCP won't recognize it as a FW device, so can't directly do 'Capture Now' with it.
Secondly, our cameras are anywhere from 25 to 100 ft from the unit. FW cable length is best when under 12 ft or so. There are some FW repeater/boosters available (search this forum or google), which might help, but we've not tried them. (Besides we're limited to 2 FW inputs and work w/4 cameras)
I have been partially successful getting the switcher to recognize DV cameras on 25' FW cables, but not consistently.
If you purchase the unit, make sure it's from a reputable dealer (who will take the unit back if necessary) and save your receipts...run some tests to make sure it's solid before committing to it.

DVCam decks should automatically lock onto the control track and playback OK, it's normally not the case the other way around with regular DV decks that don't pick up on the fact it's DVCam material and play back slowly and with picture and sound breakup.

I am trying to import some .mov files into Final Cut Pro X. The files were originally .RTS, shot from a Canon XHA1 in 1080i, I converted them to .mov using SmartConverter and they play absolutely fine in Quicktime. However, when I import them into FCP X, the audio plays fine, but the video just shows a black screen. The codecs of the .mov files are standard H.264/AAC. My other .mov files (from the same camera that were shot in 1080p instead of 1080i) import fine into FCP.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Depends. You've got to find a way to bring in analogue audio through a digital system. You can hook the walkman up to a digital camera and then into FCP. Does a walkman even have an output connection?

Capturing a VHS tape into FCP

Hello
I have a short VHS tape I need to get into FCP-6 and onto a DVD. I have my old Canopus ADVC-100 so I know the hardware.
My question is can I record directly to the timeline or do I need to log and capture? Reading the manual says something about 'capture now' to capture the entire tape.
Do I just connect my VHS player to the ADVC FW into the MAc Pro and go into FCP?

Yes, you use the NTSC preset... I think you could also use Apple Pro Res as the compressor... it will look slightly better then NTSC DV... You simply Log and Capture... as you mentioned, just hit Capture now then hit Play on your VCR....
I do suggest though not capturing the entire tape in one session. Incase there is a glitch and you waste 45 minutes of recording... divide it into 15 minutes stretches. (I am speaking of experience)...

Capturing from a dvd into FCP

I have a bunch of QuickTime files on a DVD that I need to capture. I have already imported them into FCP and it works fine but when I want to capture, FCP does not recognize the DVD deck (which is built in my Mac) and says "No Communication".
what should I do?

because when I log a clip it shows "Media offline" message, so don't I have to capture the footage to my hard drive in order to use it in my project? How do I avoid the "media offline"? I also have some still pics that I have imported from another DVD, but once I take out the DVD from the deck it shows the Media offline message again...

I just got a new PC, Windows 7 OS, I've installed ManyCam and version 3.2 of FME and am looking to broadcast again. I don't recall this issue with my old PC (XP OS, Broadcaster StudioPro virtual cam and FME 2.5). I updated to 3.2 as suggested/recommended in previous posts, but I am getting a message telling me to "please select audio capture devise connected to your system." What am I doing wrong or might there be something that I need to download that I missed?
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. I truly loved using FME 2.5 but am doing like you suggest here.

My problem was fixed by setting a recording devise in my "sound" menu.
What I did was -
1. Open the sound menu from the control panel.
2. clicked on the recording tab.
3. Chose "Stereo Mix - Realtek High Definition Audio" as my default device.
That solved it. It was almost too simple. Hope this helps you!

Mastering onto DV from FCP - help please

Can anyone help? I shoot Sony EX1 (1080 25P).
I can edit happily using FCP on a Mac book Pro but I'm trying to master onto dv tape via firewire onto a Sony HVR M15 deck, but it won't happen.
It could also solve my other problem which is outputting work to a monitor. I have all the correct HDMI leads etc into a 1080 HD TV / Monitor, but it just won't play ball. At the moment I just use the fcp window - not ideal
Do I need to adjust the fcp sequence to make it all marry up ?

I'm still struggling I'm afraid. In seq settings what would you suggest the render codec should be set at - 'same as seq' or 'pro res 422'
When I use 'edit to tape' the preview is disabled and still no playback (any ideas on device settings for that?).
Even 'print to video' doesn't work, I get a slightly distorted playback on the mac screen but nothing on the monitor screen.
It's very frustrating, I'm sure it's got to be something simple, prob to do with formats.

There's no need to write any fake variables out, Flash does not need that. OK, here's a simple PHP script like yours - I called it test.php

Since upgrading to 3.6.15 my java certificate on a banking site will not work. (It still works if I go into Explorer) HELP please !

This applet / certificate is used to authorise business banking transactions and is sent from the bank concerned, saved on my laptop and then the internet banking uses is it when I go to authorise an instruction. Since upgrading firefox it will not find the certificate and shows error message DIGITAL SIGNING PROCESS FAILED. However if I log out of banking, go to Internet Explorer, login to the banking again, do the transaction then when it calls for the certificate it loads and works perfectly. My choice is to work in Firefox so please advise what I can do rectify the issue. Many thanks

Flash code into Dreamweaver - Help please!

I am using GoDaddy for my hosting account. It is on a linux
server. I have created an HTML page and loaded it up to the
internet using Dreamweaver, like I normally do. the page in

When I use dreamweaver to insert the flash movie, it
transfers it as normal, but it will not show up on the website. The
flash movie works fine on the server, just cannot be seen on the
site. I called Go Daddy who said that there is a problem with the
way the code is calling up the Flash movie. I have not altered it
at all from the way that Dream weaver inserts it. The flash movie
is located in a folder on the site called 'flash'. The code is
below. I can't figure it out, any help would be appreciated. The
code that dreamweaver inserts is below. By the way, I use
Professional 8 version of both products.

Using BCC Uprez in FCP - help, please!

Can anyone give me SIMPLE instructions on how to uprez mini-DV footage in an HD timeline? The only tutorial I find is rather complicated, but it is giving instructions to compare 2 methods. I'm confused.
Has anyone got a 1, 2, 3, 4 method?
We are hoping to take an entire feature shot in mini-DV and uprez it to an HD standard. The source files are NTSC 720x480. What HD size would you recommend as well? We do not want so much to make it a lot bigger as we want to make the image much sharper.

This is my first post on the forum and perhaps I should start a new discussion, but this question comes right off of this discussion, so here goes:
I have no doubt that what you say about DV quality being DV quality and that's the best it will be, but: how is it that dv can be uprezed sufficiently to be transferred to film and projected? I've seen some nice films shot progressive with the DVX blown up (most recently 'Girls Rock', great documentary). It just makes me think there must be a 'best' way to do this. Which brings me to the terranex: is what's special about it the speed it works, the results, or both? I've heard it said (or seen in written), that compressor can do the same thing, or close enough, but that it just takes a very long time. I've also seen it written that the terranex does a much better job.
I have a short 'film' shot on the DVX in 24pa, it's edited in 24fps timeline, and I'd like it to be able to look as good as possible if somebody throws it up on an HDTV. I still have to turn it into MPEG2 and burn a regular DVD, so whatever I would do to 'uprez it' wouldn't that simply be lost in the process? So do I just leave it alone and cringe as the HDTV does it's own scaling? Or is there an advantage to running it through compressor and turning it into 720p? I.e., let the software do the scaling?
While I'm rambling, is there an advantage to converting it to prores first? And should I make it uncompressed 8 or 10 bit before converting it to prores? So many questions, so few computer cycles...
