Capture for Sandisk Video HD card

I shot video on a JVC Everio and captured it to a Sandisk Video HD card. I plugged in a card reader hoping it would just capture into Imovie, but that doesnt seem to be the case. How do i offload this video to imovie from the SD card? Thank you.

Hi Stephen - you will need to save the file to your hard drive, then convert the file from MPEG2 into DV format for it to be usable in iMovie. To do this you will need:
MPEG StreamClip (free):
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
Apple MPEG2 PlayBack ($20):
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
And see here:
http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG
To be honest, Hard Drive cam-corders are just not suitable for easy use with iMovie. MPEG is a 'lossy' format, not very suitable for further editing.

  • Plug-in for StarTech Video Capture Card

StarTech'website shows their ECHDCAP ExpressCard video capture card supports Adobe Premiere CS5 plug-in for editing. I talked to a Tech at StarTech and he said the card should work with Premiere Pro CS5 & CS6 but StarTech doesn't support it, and he didn't know where I can get the Premiere SC5 plug-in. Does anyone know what plug-in StarTech is referring to, and where I can get it?
If anyone is currently using the ECHDCAP capture card or the StarTech USB3HDCAP Capture Device, please let me know how you got it working with Premiere Pro.

    Ann & Bill,
I probably should have given you more information. This application is different than what I usually use Premiere for.
One of my hobbies is shooting long range rifles at 1,000 yards. I'm trying to capture the point of impact on steel targets 500 to 1,000 yards away. I've attached my XA10 to my Swarovski spotting scope so I can see the impact. I've been transferring the video from the XA10 to my computer through the USB port, then importing the video into Premiere and adding it to the sequence. By the time I get all this done, then scrub the video to find the frame with the initial BANG, then count 41 frames forward for 870 yards, then scrub the video again to find the impact point, the wind and several other conditions have changed which affect my next shot. this makes for a long and tedious day.
The bottom line is... I'm trying to streamline my workflow so I can capture the video from my XA10 straight to a Premiere sequence, then start scrubbing the video to find the point of impact.
The reason I'm using Premiere is because none of my other programs allow me to scrub with audio.
I would prefer not to spend $600 for a Maxtor MX02 Mini and ExpressCard adapter; especially since it requires 110 volts and that's not available at the shooting range.
If you know of another way to do this, or can recommend an inexpensive program that will allow me to capture audio and video from my XA10 and scrub it with audio, I'd sure appreciate hearing about it.
    Thank you,
    Brian Scura...

    Hi!
First of all, I sorry for my bad english.
I'm trying to manage ports of my Video Capture Card. It's 4 ports. I believe I can manage it cause running this code I found in a web, I can see a panel called Video Source that contain all my capture devices (the capturer card too) and the four ports. Ports have been asociate like SVIDEO, TVTUNNER, COMPOSITE, COMPOSITE2. I'm trying use PortControl, but I don't ontain nothing. I'm learning java for around only three weeks, I don't know very much.
My question: How can I asociate a DataSource to a Port for my Video Capture Card and so manage 4 streamings data . Should I work Port Control over a medialocator, a datastream, a player...?
I'm looking forward your answers. I'm very sad cause this problem.

  • I need a fast reliable card reader for HD Video transfer

Hey guys, I've just purchased a Canon 5D Mark II and I use 16GB and 32GB 60MB/s SanDisk flash cards to capture my HD video footage. I must have purchased the worst card reader on the market, because it takes over an hour to transfer the footage and now it crashes my computer everytime. What I was wondering is if anyone out that has any suggestions about a trust worthy card reader that moves a bit faster then the speed of dirt and wont crash my computer.
    Thank you in advance,
    Crayton

Oh and I have another question. As I have been searching, I see alot of these card readers say they handle "large cards" such as 16GB, however, I use 32GB 60/mbs. It was this card that was destroyed while I was transferring the video. So I was wondering if maybe that is an important factor for me to consider and perhaps I have to find an even beefier card reader? Don't get me wrong, I hope not, but maybe it matters. What is the largest card size you use?
    Thanks,
    Crayton

  • Problem with video capture with Blackmagic Intensity Pro card

I have just installed a blackmagic Intensity Pro card to download analogue VCR tapes to DVD. I have set all the input parameters to the Blackmagic card in both Premiere and the input routine for the card. I am using the breakout cable for NTSC input with the green Y input for the video and the L & R audio inputs. When I try to capture I get snow in the premiere capture window, but it does record the L & R audio. When I stop the tape deck I momentarily get the blue screen with STOP showing and then back to snow. I am hoping it is just a setting somewhere but where????
The computer is running Vista 32 home premium with 3G ram
    Comments very welcome

Is there a BlackMagic setting required to tell the driver to see the green as composite rather than component?

  • Best Configuration for Multiple Video Captures

    Hello,
What would be faster and the most efficient for multiple video captures:
    - 9 video feeds written to 3 separate internal hard drives (3 feeds per hard drive)
    - 9 video feeds written to 3 internal hard drives in a combined RAID configuration
    - 9 video feeds written to 9 separate external hard drives via eSATA
I have a Mac Pro 3.06GHz 12-core Intel Xeon machine that will be dedicated to a security camera application (SecuritySpy). The Mac OS and SecuritySpy will be on one hard drive and send the captured video from nine network HD cameras to the other hard drives. The computer, eSATA card, and all the hard drives are 6Gb/s capable. I also have access to SoftRAID for the RAID configuration, as well as an 8-bay eSATA hard drive enclosure if I choose. There are pros and cons for each of the configurations, but I am looking for the most reliable setup in terms of efficiency and longevity.

Just wanted to post the details of my final set up, maybe this will be useful to others looking to do a similar setup:
    1. Connected and set up the external hard drive (I bought a Western Digital My Book Pro Edition II 1TB) via Firewire 800 on iMac #1.
    2. Set up iMac #1 to backup via Time Machine. Even though the other computers will see the drive, apparently they will not recognize it in Time Machine unless you set it up on the computer the drive is connected to first (I tried).
    3. On iMac #2, connect to iMac #1 via file sharing, this is even easier now that you can access any computer on your network under "SHARED" in the sidebar of any finder window.
    4. Double-click the external drive. If you don't see the drive, click "Connect as" in the top right of the window and login. It's not necessary to do this, but if you want to confirm you've connected to the network drive, you can go to Finder -> Preferences -> General and under "Show these items on the Desktop" check the box next to "Connected Servers". This will make an icon for the external drive appear on your desktop.
    5. Turn on Time Machine on iMac #2. Repeat for any other computers you want to back up.
That's it. So far this has worked great for me. Obviously the backups run a little slower on the computers running through file share, but its a small trade-off compared to either manually moving the drive around or getting three separate drives.

    Can anyone advise?
Also, what compatible format provides the best quality? Should I select Mp4 or is there a better option. Thanks, Barry

    Hello Nello,
For Voip i´m using the native bundle phone, and it works well, if your account is SIP. Actually the only problem for me is the Codec priority order, it start in G.711, and if takes around 85K, that takes some sensibility on band avaibility on tour network , special if you have an ADSL with with an upload close to 128K as me.
I have a note on this discution, but till now i dont have any clue to change this priotity!,
    All the best

  • Graphics card for hd video

I keep hearing conflicting reports about the graphics cards needed to capture, playback, and render effects for HD video. I'm getting an older 2007 upgraded macbook pro. It's difficult to say without knowing what apps you're using. Many list the minimum GPU and VRAM requirement.

Not possible. This machine has one GPU, it's soldered onto the logic board, it is not upgradeable, nor is there a slot for another one to be added (this is a common setup for laptops). Some of the Unibodies have dual GPUs, one with its own dedicated VRAM, one integrated into the LB and sharing system RAM (the 9400/9600 come to mind).
2007 upgraded macbook pro. Mac osx 10.6 intel core dual 2.5 ghz. the graphics card is Nvidia geoforce 8600m GT.
No such machine. The 15" was produced only in 2008, while 2.5GHz versions of the 17" were produced in 08 and into 09.
If you have the 15" 2.5GHz Original MBP, then you have 512MB VRAM, so maybe you can check the apps you want to use to see what will/will not work.
Also, this machine has a native/max built-in display resolution of 1440x900, but will drive a full HD external display (1920x1080) and higher (the earlier 17" 2.5GHz has native/max built-in resolution of 1680x1050, while the later 17" 2.5 is 1920x1200).

  • Any compatible USB 2.0 cards available for the video iPod?

Any compatible USB 2.0 cards available for the video iPod?
    Dual 867
    512 RAM
    OS X 10.4.3
I installed a TECHGEAR USB 2.0 card, the iPod shows that is active on the bus, but does not show on the desktop, or in iTunes. Epson printer works, but SanDisk does not. I have read about deep sleep issues too. USB 1.0 is painfully slow. After using FW to update our 15 Gig iPods for sooooo looooong this is one BIG step backwards. Dupid genius at the Apple store in Arden Fair said this iPod would work with a PCI 2.0 card. I am a little ticked after purchasing videos for my wife with the promise a card would work. I know, should have done more research and not asked the genius.
    Merry Christmas,
    Shawn Bockoven

Well, I now have a working USB 2.0 connection. BUT!!!! The lame OS X 10.4.3 sleep issue has raised its ugly head. How about supporting long time users Apple? Let's talk about supporting third party cards. I run a TV station and love my Mac's, but this legacy USB 2.0 stuff just stinks!
WAIT!!! My Mac is only fours years old. Is that too old? I just want to make my dual 867 sleep! Why can’t I put make my dual 867 sleep after installing a third party card? All the new Mac’s at the station work just fine. Now convince my 62-year-old mom to switch.

  • Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac

After talking with a bunch of salesmen (considering getting a DvD writer), I took the advice of someone in the Apple Store and bought a Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac to copy my laserdiscs. It was $100 before tax, and didn't do stuff I don't plan on doing anyway. I did spend another $25 to get an S-video cable.
I installed the software and connected it up to my LD. I started capturing the movie, and selected S-Video (although in the small window they showed, I didn't see any difference between that and video out. I selected a max time from a limited selection, and let it record.
After a while, I went downstairs and saw that the audio and video were not synchronized at all. I let it continue.
After a while I came down again, and the movie was finished, so I stopped it. I found the MP4 - it was in the iTunes movie directory, and played it in iTunes. I fast-forwarded it to near the end, the voice and video were way off-set.
I haven't tried burning this yet.
Quicktime player doesn't think this is a valid movie file. I selected "open with" and "other" and the recommended applications had iMovie greyed out.
Why in the world would the audio and video record at different speeds?
Do I have to buy software to edit the movie down to the correct size?
    My Mac has:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.21f4
I noticed the Pinacle Video Capture program was still running, so I tried to quit it, and got a window asking for my administrator ID and passsword to allow Pinnacle Video Capture to make changes. Why?

The audio drifted out of sync because the Dazzle doesn't support locked audio. For short videos (say, under 10 minutes) this won't be very noticeable but when you capture longer videos it becomes progressively worse over time.
What do you want to do with your Laserdisk copies? Watch them on your iPod? Edit and/or burn to DVD?
A device like the Canopus ADVC-110 will do the video/audio conversion properly, keeping the audio and video in sync regardless of the length of your video. It converts to DV, not to MP4, and you would use it with iMovie or Final Cut (not iTunes). However you can export your video from iMovie or Final Cut to iPod/AppleTV formats.
The Dazzle device will not work directly with iMovie or Final Cut.
ps. If all you really want to do is transfer your Laserdisc videos to DVDs, it will be a whole lot faster & simpler to get a DVD player/recorder that has analog inputs and record directly to DVDs. There are many brands & models to choose from and many good ones are as inexpensive as the $100 you spent on the Pinnacle converter.

  • What are the limitations of AMS5 only allowing one-way broadcast for the video capture support?

I am interested in a tool that can access a clients webcam and begin recording from their device. When the time is up, it should store that recorded video to a server. Then, of course, the files can be accessed. Streaming is of less significance than simply capturing and accessing video from a client
Can I do this with only Adobe Media Server Standard Edition?
Bearing in mind, I may need to be capturing video from multiple clients at one time. Is this limited by the fact that Standard only allows "one-way broadcasts?"
    Thanks,
    Carl

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried using DVCPRO HD in the past, but the picture quality of the captured screen footage turns out blurry. The only codecs I've found that provide a perfectly clear image are H264, Animation and Uncompressed 8-bit. The problem with the latter two is that video files lasting only a few seconds measure in the 100s of MBs. Working with files that large would slow my editing and rendering down to a non-workable length.
I just don't understand why I can't edit H264 video if my sequence codec is set to H264. The 'Codec error' I get is baffling.

  • ITunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) did not fix choppy playback

After reading all the other posts I tried installing the (64 bit for older video cards) and it did not solve my choppy playback with Music or Movies.  I am running windows 8.1, Intel i7-4500U CPU @ 1.8GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64-bit OS, x64 based processor, DELL Inspirion 15.  Never had problems until upgrading to 8.1 from 8.0.

Did you see if changing the Play Audio Using select in Edit > Preferences > Playback to "Direct Sound" resolves the issue?  Otherwise you may want to consider rolling back to 12.0 and waiting until a future release is shown to resolve the playback issues in 12.1.  See Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.
