Capture from AVI-550 to FC6

My mac recognizes my Pyro A/V link box. In mac system profile the AVI-550 shows in Firewire Bus. But when I go to capture video it shows no communication back from FC to the box. There must be an A/V Setting in FC I have missed.
Your help much appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion. I already have it on non controllable. But when i click on capture I get "This operation could not be completed as there is no video." I'm sending my DVcam tape out of Sony clamshell to Pyro A/V box thru on RCA composite cable. From Pyro by firewire to my mac.
Still stumped.

  • Image capture from avi vfw device can't find video modes

    Hello
Here my issu, i have implemented image capture from a video device using jmf 2.1.1e performancepack, using a webcam everything is fine but when i use the video capture source i want to use i can only work with format 720x480 pal and i require 720x576 pal.
jmf seem not to reconize video format from this source, but the video is correcty displayed and image correctly captured. I'm surprised it is half working:decoding&render is ok to but not format choice.
I have check it is not because i'm in ntsc mode (ntsc is 720x480) because my analogic source is pal and color are correct (if with device software i change to ntsc mode i have a black&with but using jmf i'm in color so i'm in pal mode)
Difference bettween the webcam and my device is that my device is an avi encoder so in jmf webcam is javax.media.format.YUVFormat and my device com.sun.media.format.AviVideoFormat
    i have tried many thing:
install codec pack (divx6, another codec pack)
    try to use Fobs4JMF
    register in JMStudio IBMdecoder, jffmpeg
    Tanks for any help
the device support many configuration UYVY 235x288 352x576 .... 720x576 but JMF offer only 1 video mode for this device.
here in jmf my capture device info:

i just have add dimension 720x576 and "UYVY" in the variable declaration, then compile and replace VFWDeviceQuery .java in jmf.jar in but it is not working)
I miss information on what to do on VFWDeviceQuery to try more

  • Capturing audio from avi file

I want to capture just the audio from avi file. Here is what I did. I dragged the avi into garage band and saw a separate audio and video track. I tried to import the just the audio into itunes but it would only let me import both video and audio. I decided to burn the audio to cd and then import it into itunes. This seemed to work but I would like to know if there is a better method. I figure there must be. Anybody out there tried this?

i'm not near my GB machine to test this, but see if you can Share to Disk and make sure the Compress checkBox is not selected.

  • Extract Date from AVI or other formats

I have several files that I captured from my digital camcorder to AVI files. I've read that generally, the date and time are captured with the file. Is there any way to extract that info from the AVI files. How about other formats?
The timestamp of the AVI file won't work since I took the video a couple years before I extract it from the tape.
    Thanks,
    Scott

I think you should start the processor, just after the datasink is started.
    datasink.satrt();
    p.start();
Try it and ask again if it's not the problem.

  • Can we  Capture DV avi to mpeg2  using JMSTudio

    HI All,
can we Capture DV avi to mpeg2 using JMSTudio or any JMF api .PLS let me know about this i hve to capture from Camcoder along with the timecode .
I m new to JMF concept ,if its poss 2 any one pls help me .
    THNKS to all.
    AMit

you could try downloading the Adobe CS6 Creative cloud and using the media encoder.
you can convert DV to mpeg2 files using the direct dialogue as well as preparing files via Encore for DVD.
there are tons of presets for the output too if you are tryign to prepare for a specific desitnation.
the trial is 30 days fully working, and you could always just buy a month or two license to continue the project if its working as intended.

  • How do you capture from a DVD

I was told you can capture from DVD using Adobe Premiere. How do you play the DVD to allow capture?

I've also found that Tsunami's authoring suite is rather handy for this. It will allow you to pull source material from a DVD and encodes it to a 720x480 MPEG-2 that pulls right into Premiere without issue. (Just watch out for the AC-3 encoding on some of the audio files).
Just my two cents, but why go DV-AVI when the file is already in distribution state (DVD) --

  • Tv@nywhere: capture to avi

Can anyone capture to AVI  using WinDVR. If you can then Could you please show me how?
Does anyone try to use different sw for capturing with this card? Does it produce better quality MPEG with the different sw?
What determine the quality of the image? hw or sw or both?
    Thanks

Hopefully these pointers might help you, or at least make you cool down a bit. :D
Again what I say apply much more to CAPTURE (via composite or S-video) than TV tuning (via TV tuner) because I seldom try out tv tuning.
    1) Desktop video tuning and capture is NEVER easy. I have gone through Iomega Buz (US), several older Coxenant BT chipsets cards (US, Taiwan), Ati Radeon 8500 AIW Vivo (Canada) in the past 5 years, and believe me, none of them are hassle free, with IOmega Buz being by far the worst. Even the older Coxenant chipsets which garner a lot of third party support over the years have many problems too. A search on Usenet newsgroup, Vcdhelp.com etc. will testify to this.
In fact, for me at least, these two latest capture/tv cards (PlayTV HD and Flyvideo 3000) are among the easiest to get to work - insert the card, Windows XP automatically detects the hardware, install the driver, load the WDM-aware capture/tuning programs (iuVCR/VirtualVCR), and lo and behold, I get the most beautiful picture I've ever seen on desktop PC, beating those Buz, BT chipsets cards and Ati card SIGNIFICANTLY.
And what did I pay for the cards? I paid about US $200 for Iomega Buz (5 years ago when it first came out)), US $220 for Ati AIW, US $60 - 100 for various Coxenant BT chipsets cards. Now I bought PlayTV HD for only US $46, and Flyvideo 3000 can be had for around US $40! I really really feel these newer cards are a great value for money!! That is why I don't mind buying 2 to compare, and they don't disappoint me (for my capture purpose).
    2) It seems your greatest frustration now with TV@nyhwere capture is a-v async problem. But it is not only YOU, or TV@nywhere, or iuVCR! A-v asynv IS THE SINGLE MOST frequently encountered yet not readily solved problem in desktop video capture! Looking at so many posts in newsgroups and web forums on a-v asynchronization over the years, I am surprised that I have not twice encountered this problem (with capture length more than 1 hour) over past 5 years! I only got it once when I used a VIA chipset motherboard/AMD CPU. A-v async stems from the differences in oscillation frequency in video subsystem and audio card. So I have learned to stick to the following hardware combination for video works:
    - Intel chipset mobo (most important factor IMO)
    - Intel CPU (since using AMD CPU means using those crappy VIA chipsets)
    - Creative sound card (I only have experience on Creative)
    - Nvidia or ATi graphic cards
    3) Now the software part. If I recall correctly reading somewhere, Windows XP has a better WDM implementaion than Windows 2000. And Win98 does not have native support for WDM capture. Now WDM is a far better implementaion than VfW (Video for Windows) capture, and most cards now use WDM driver support. I would suggest to go Windows XP and WDM.
VirtualDub is essentially a VfW capture program. It is one of the greatest freeware programs, but sorry to say It is very difficult to get it to work with WDM drivers even after doing those WDM wrapper/regedit tricks. I tried using it on PlayTV HD and Flyvideo 3000 without much success (first capture is okay then subsequent capture will hang).
It has a good implementaion to work-around a-v async problem (dropping video frames to keep a-v sync IINM), but from extensive reading I don't think it must be better than iuVCR/VirtualVCR: some people have async problem with iuVCR but not Vdub, some the other way round.
I would say for TV@nywhere it will be more fruitful to try solving your a-v async problem using iuVCR than solving capture program using VDub!
For iuVCR please check some of the settings that may affect a-v sync ( I don't have the program with me now, so I am just recalling):
    - master stream: leave it UNchecked. If you check "audio" your video framerate may change from one captured footage to another footage; if you check 'video' you may get a-v async problem.
    - audio interleave: select "FULL".
    - short audio sample: try check or unchecking it to see if it makes a difference.
Just because VirtualVCR and VirtualDub both have "virtual" in their names does not make VirtualVCR a helper program to Vdub!    LOL. VirtualVCR is primarily WDM based, and Vdub VfW. Try VirtualVCR and its various a-v sync options, your solution may (or may not) lie there.
    5) What other options?
Another card? Unless you buy a capture card that capture both audio and video on the same card, no one can guarantee you to be free of a-v async problem. Flyvideo card is not such card.
DV capture via Firewire interface has NO a-v async problem too.

  • Can not capture from Sony HDV 1080i (recording in 60i)

    Hello
We are trying to capture from the above camera to a Mac Dual G5. We are using FinalCutPro 5.1.2. We are using a FireWire 400 cable to connect to the front of the computer (have also tryed back of Cinema Display). The footage was captured in HDV1080/60i, and we have tried the corresponding formats in Easy Setup (Basic, standard, Apple Intermediate).
The problem: we can control the camera from the Log and Capture windows, but when starting capture, no data is coming in, and the program therefor gives up after a few seconds (displaying a no data error message).
We have tried Batch and Now capture. We can log clips, and get the correct time code, but can not capture those clips due to the no data problem.

This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem with FCP (if that's what it is):
First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
Follow the instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite safe but you must Trash the Receipts AND re-install QT from the link provided.
If the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
Let us know how you get on!

  • Unable to capture from Sony HDFX1 camera

Built a new PC and utilized a top end ATI Radeon dual video card. Running Vista Ultra OS(hmmmm), plenty ram, processor, etc.
PC does not see my camera when I plug in for capture. Do I need a special codec or 1394 HD drivers available for HD capture from ATI or from Adobe perhaps?
    Frustrated

If the Vista install was a standard installation, Vista should recognize the camera automatically and install the correct drivers. Nothing you need to do. Make sure that you connect the firewire cable first between the camera and the on-board firewire connector. Do not try to connect it to the ATI card. Once the cable is connected, turn on the power on the camera and set it to VCR. Vista will then install the necessary drivers automatically and if they have been installed previously, show the autoplay box. Make sure that the menu in the camera is correctly setup to use the iLink connection and the format you shot in, so either DV or HDV. Consult the Sony manual for that. If the does not work, try a different cable first.

  • Capture from Sony HVR-Z1U

I have recently purchased a Sony Z1U and was unable to capture in FCE4. I later found out that FCE4 will only capture from the Z1U in DV mode and NOT in HDV. Why is this? Is all my HDV media useless now that I have FCE4? Should I only shoot in DV mode from now on? I also have a small Sony HRD-CX7. Will FCE4 capture from this device?
Any help for this newbie would be appreciated!

"do not connect to the computer. Connect it to the hard drive so they are on a single FireWire chain. The computer will have difficulty passing information back and forth on FW when there are multiple devices on multiple ports but on a single bus"
In theory this may be true, however my external drive only has (2) 1394b ports. My camera has (1) four pin 1394a port that converts to a six pin 1394a through the cable assembly. There is no way to chain these components together (via my external drive anyways) as far as I can see. Is this a critical issue? Should I invest in a different drive? I guess I could connect to my ED via esata using an express card. Would this approach lessen the load on the FW bus during capture and delegate a separate bus for ED control?
    Any thoughts on this?

  • Final Cut Express won't allow me to capture from my vdo camera

I just loaded Final Cut Express HD on my Mac because I wanted to upgrade from IMOVIE. My Powerbook G4 had no problem capturing video with my Sony HDV 1080i video camera. But I can't get Final Cut Express HD to locate my camera at all no matter what "easy setup" setting I choose. But if I turn on IMOVIE, the program can capture from my video camera no problem. I know the firewire cable is hooked to the computer correctly & the camera is on & in the VTR mode. If anyone can help me identify this problem, I'd really appreciate it because I'm trying to begin a new video project & can't if I can't capture video. Thanks for helping.

Fritz from Technical support told me about a glitch in Final Cut Pro & Express HD that happens when you upgrade to Quicktime 7. He told me to go to this article: Link: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n301852
and follow the instructions & it would fix my problem. It didn't & then of course I called tech support back & it was after hours. I still can't capture from my video camera but it works in IMOVIE. I removed Final Cut Express HD from my computer (even all the files in library/users, etc.) and then reinstalled it. It still gives me the same error even though I have my camera plugged in & turned on. It says unable to locate capture device. This is unbelievable. Hopefully I can get some help. Brian
