Capture from different video and audio sources ?

Hey guys, I'm running Adobe CS4 Master Collection.
In the past I've used Premiere to record the video and Soundbooth to record the audio. Then I would import the recorded audio into premiere.
Thinking about the workflow this seems kind of long winded, really what I should be able to do is record the audio from my video camera and the audio from my microphone (not video cam audio), at the same time within premiere.
Just wondering if anyone has a way of doing this ?
In the capture screen options it only allows selection of the video source with the audio automatically coming from the video camera - not what I want.
Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

Jason,
Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, this was posted to the Premiere (not Pro) forum, and belongs in the Premiere Pro forum, as you have CS4. The best reason for that is that there is much more traffic out in the PrPro forum, so you'll get more responses.
Now, to address your question: I see your normal workflow as being the best one. You are talking about the Video from your camera and then narration. Doing them as separate operations will be the easiest and the best, as they are, well separate operations.
One possibility would be to hook your mic to an XLR input on your camera, preview the footage and record your additional Audio Track to the tape, or card. However, you are then faced with having more than the 2 origianl channels of Audio. You would need to use SceneAlyzer Live (for SD material), or HDVSplit (for HD material), to Capture those additional channels of Audio for use in PrPro, as it will NOT Capture them.
I'd guess that the time to do that sort of workflow would be as long, as doing it your way. Also with your way, you can redo botched narration much more quickly.
Maybe someone has another method, to run both Soundbooth and PrPro at the same time, other than on side-by-side computer, but you'll still have the issue of bothched narration - gotta' get it 100% the first time, or you'll be really playing "catch up."
Good luck,
Hunt

  • How can you use one NetStream to publish video and audio from another NetStream in AS3?

Let's say one of your client programs in AS3 is able to receive live video and audio from a NetStream and play it on the screen.  How could you make it also take that video/audio stream that it's receiving, copy it over into another NetStream, and publish it elsewhere?  I need to know how to do with this regardless of whether RTMP, RTMFP, or some mixture is involved.  The reason why the stream needs to be relayed this way is a real long story, but it's necessary in this particular case. Thanks!

RTMP is TCP, which has higher overhead and latency because it guarantees packets are delivered (handshaking, causing latency and overhead). It also doesn't allow you to share connections directly between clients forcing the server to do all the work.
RTMFP uses UDP, which is a choice protocol for streaming video because it's the opposite. It's lossy which decreases latency and overhead from no retransmissions and most importantly (in some applications) allows you to connect directly from one Flash Player to another Flash Player (p2p) so the server overhead is dramatically reduced. The server is only required to negotiate the initial connection and then it's up to the clients to continue to facilitate that.
How you code your one to many or many to many relationship broadcast network will be based entirely on which of those you choose.
URLStream is very common to use in p2p. Here's an older Adobe article on p2p and an alternate quick old video tutorial (FP10) as a quick simple example of p2p over RTMFP you can view the source of.

  • Video and Audio not in sync after capture

    Hi there,
This is probably a common problem, I have trawled the site but can't seem to find and explanation for it.
I'm capturing vide/audio into final cut pro from my SONY DVR. The video i have streaming into the sony DVR is from a small covert video device which records video/audio onto an SD card. SO I'm running that into the DVR and then DVR is outputting that as DV PAL firewire (uncontrollable device).
I'm capturing the 40 minutes of video as one clip, and when i drag it into the timeline the audio and video are WAY out of sync. Is there a simple reason for why this is happening?
It's almost as if not capturing it right.
    I hope someone can help,
    Thanks in advance.
    Jamie McIntyre

It is interesting that you are having this problem. I recently purchased a brand new Mac Pro (a week ago) and I am using Premiere Pro and it is doing the exact same thing. I mean this video and audio is REALLy out of sync. I tried capturing an hour at a time, and 30 minutes at a time. Still, no luck. I was debating on getting Final Cut, but after reading this post I am rethinking not only Final Cut, but using Apple all together. Part of me thinks that it is not a Premiere or Final Cut problem but a Mac OS problem. But hey, what do I know. I only edit for a living.

  • Can we capture the video and audio using cam and microphone in Edge Animate?

    Hi Everyone,
I got a new requirement from the client to create a HTML5 based functionality through which one can capture the video and audio using his web-cam/camcorder and microphone. I have researched on internet and found that there is api available (not reliable) http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/getusermedia/intro/ . I am not a coder by profession and use Edge animate to create HTML 5 based animations and stuff like that. Another problem which i have found that the api only works well with Chrome and Opera and not with Mozilla, IE..
Can anybody help me out in this, please...
    Thanks & Warm Regards
    Vikas

    Hi, Vikas-
After a brief bit of research, you're definitely hitting upon the limitation of the browsers.  Not all of the browsers have implemented this part of the HTML5 standard, so you're going to either have to use Flash or be limited to these specific browsers.
    Thanks,

  • Capturing Video (and audio) in iMovie 09?

    Hello-
I need to import some video and audio form some beta tapes and am wondering if this can be done in iMovie 09? Some of the tapes are hour long documentaries that i have scored and I have read on this forum that people have run into problems when trying to capture more than 5 minutes of footage. I have also read that there have been issues capturing the audio.
Would I have more success capturing in FCE? Picture and audio quality is paramount for me.
    Thanks!!

You can import into iMovie '09, but you need some kind of analog-digital video converter.
    Apple sells this one: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TJ555LL/A
but there are many other devices available. Some with less features are substantially cheaper.
My old Firewire connected camcorders can do this conversion, but not all can, so take a look at your camcorder's manual if you do not already know.
iMovie can take the Firewire output of your converter and capture the import directly to your disk.
The video output quality of VCR tapes will not be as high as digital sources, but, in my experience, you will certainly lose some video quality with iMovie '09. I suggest you test a short segment captured or imported into iMovie '09. If you see video too much degradation, test with FCE. FCE will retain all the quality that your VCR tapes can offer.

  • FME Firewire Video and Audio Support(not from Camera)

I can't seem to find any definitive answer on weather FME can
support both video and audio from a single Firewire connection that
is coming from an analog to digital Firewire converter box. I want
to take the analog audio and video feed, convert it to a Firewire
feed (using a Canopus DV converter) and feed that into a laptop.
Seems like that should work and both audio/video would be
    present...
That being said, I have found a few conflicting reports on
weather or not both the audio and video will be recognized. I also
note that others have been having issues in FME with PCI cards (no
audio when it should be there) so I'm curious if anyone has tried
Firewire (not from a camera). Will it work in FME v2.5+? If not, is
there an elegant laptop analog to digital conversion solution (that
doesn't require using the crapy mic in or line in ports)? (RCA
    connectors would be preferred.)
    Thanks so much!
P.S. I'm disappointed with Adobe's lack of support on this
encoder. They claim Firewire is supported but I've only found a few
3rd party sources that say 'video only' and nothing concrete at
that (even in the downloadable manual). I'm also disappointed at
Adobe's lack of e-mail support for 'pre-sale' product questions.
    Not supper great customer service!

FME should support audio and video from Firewire
    source.

    Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.
    Thanks!

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

  • Video and audio transmission from MacBook to TV

Since I really get mixed up with various posts about connecting MacBooks to a TV set I would love to get simple answers to the following questions:
How can I connect my MacBook to a TV so that I have video and audio rendering? My MacBook has a mini-DVi output, my TV set has VGA, HDMI, and audio inputs. Since to my knowledge HDI carries no audio signals I suspect that I need an extra audio connection. Is this true?

  • How can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

how can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

Wirelessly: you need an AirPlay - enabled device such as an AppleTV.
Wired: if your TV has an HDMI port, you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter such as this one:
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
If your TV does not have an HDMI port you will need a converter that will convert HDMI input to whatever input your TV requires.

  • Fastest way to transfer video and audio from MacBook to TV?

    Hello All,
Thanks for visiting my page. I would like to transfer video and audio from my Macbook mid-2010 (specs below), and would like to do so with minimum lag. I m aware Apple TV has a feature which allows me to do that, however considering it is connected via either wi-fi or bluetooth (not sure which) I feel streaming an HD movie or playing an MMO will cause significant lag and/or a distorted picture.
So with that said, what is the best way to transfer video and audio with minimal lag?
Also, as a part II of the question, will the picture be distorted regardless if my TV is 60 inches?
    Thanks for the feed back!
    Macbook Specs:
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)

The easiest and most reliable option is to connect your Mac to the TV wired. Just buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable to connect your MacBook to your TV. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241 Image and sound will appear on the TV automatically.
If the adapter and cable are OK, you won't get the picture distorted. Your Mac will try to use the maximum resolution the GPU allows in order to adapt the picture to your TV. It may not support the maximum resolution of the TV, but picture won't be distorted

  • Cutting and saving individual video and audio files from a clip

I have to cut 201 individual video and audio files for separate scenes from an 11-minute animated episode and save them as separate MP4 video and MP3 audio files. What is the most efficient way to do this?

Without knowing more about your project, it's hard to even guess at the most efficient workflow.
Like: Do these clips have audio or are you adding it? What format are these clips? What is the intended delivery for the 11 minute movie?
As a general matter, one creates an event, imports clips to it. Then organizes the clips according to the needs of job, using keyword collections and ratings. Then creates a project and starts a rough cut by marking ranges in the event browser and editing to the time line. Some people start with the music, making that the primary storyline mark where they want the edit to be and cut to that.
Upon finishing, one can choose one or more of the "destination" presets. It's possible to export Audio only or Video only or both. MP3 is one of the audio choices. Some of the presets are MP4. If you want possibly better quality and more control, export the files as master files and encode in Compressor.
    Good luck.

  • What do I need to transfer video and audio from my 2009 Macbook to my television?

I want to watch a movie with my family tonight, but the DVD is broken. I was planning on renting the movie online and transferring the video and audio from my Macbook to the television. What cables will I need to accomplish this? Also, does anyone know, were I to use a Windows instead, would transferring the audio be simpler? (And what would I need to do that?)

Try doing it without a cable!
    Use AirDrop, described here:

UPDATE - Oh, sorry, I see the article points out the MacBook is too old for AirDrop.

  • Import video and audio from a dvd into FCP

Is there an easier way to import video and audio into Final Cut Pro - I am playing it on a DVD player and making a digital tape of it. Then logging and capturing it into FCP.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Yes, there are a few ways that are faster. Have a look at this thread http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=3465691
You could use software, such as "streamclip", or import by plugging your camera into your capture device and hooking your capture device into your computer and capturing by non-controllable device settings.
    Good Luck
