Capture HDV Disk requirements for HDV 60i Frame Rate

As a general rule, how much disk space is needed to capture HDV recorded in 60i mode which is 60fps interlaced (same as TV signal) frame rate? Any clues appreciated. Thank you.
iMac 1.83Ghz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Canon XLH1 HDV Camcorder

Matthew just posted in another topic that 1hr of HDV video uses about 22GB of storage space.
(..1hr of standard def DV needs about 13GB of storage..)

  • Unity Connections 8.6.x - Independent-persistent disk requirement for VM?

Does anyone know why Unity Connections has a requirement for it's vDisks to be set to independant-persistant mode? I don't see this requirement for any other UC application and would prefer to not set it in this mode as it prevents us for taking a snapshot when the machine is shutdown. I know that snapshots are not officially supported, but it is a great back-out plan in the case of doing maintenance off hours and deleting the snapshot before using the VM in production.
    Expanation of Independent Disks:
Independent Disks are not affected by snapshots.
Persistent - Changes are immediately and permanently written to the disk.
Where I found the Cisco requirements:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/requirements/8xcucsysreqs.html
"All virtual disks assigned to the Connection virtual machine must be configured  in independent-persistent mode, which provides the best storage performance."

Yea I also noticed that the OVA did not apply this setting. I have turned this on manually as this document states it is a requirement. Just wondering if this requirement has been droped at some point since that secton of the document was last modified June 9th 2011. I can't seem to find the requirement anywhere else beside this document and it is not stated anywhere that it was dropped.

  • Disk requirement for 11.5.9

    Hi,there
Who has the experience to install 11.5.9 for linux,
please tell me the exact disk space requirement. If you can give the the disk space check list,it's better.
I'm a little worry about the free space on my linux partition. I only have 50G free space on that partition.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Shekar,
I am trying to install 11.5.9 on redhat 9 in vain. Had a tar open with oracle.
Anyway my situation is, I have enough space, 512 physical memory and 2.2GB of swap. My installation fails with following message

  • Snow Leopard Disk Requirement for BootCamp

    Hi,
I'm installing Windows 7 (64-bit) on my Mac, and I was reading over the "Windows 7 FAQ's" on Apple's support site. I was a bit confused when I saw this: +"Windows 7 requires Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and the Boot Camp 3.1 Update. For complete system requirements information, see this article."+ I got my iMac in September of 2008, and I only received an OSX Leopard 10.5.2 install disk. However, I upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard, when it came out the next year and I am running 10.6.4 right now. I have the Snow Leopard disk, that I bought from the Apple store for $29. So, is this the disk they talked about on their website, or should I use the 10.5 disk that came with my Mac?
    Thank You So Much!!!
    iMac Specs:
    20" Screen
    3 GB RAM
    250GB Hardrive
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    Mac OSX 10.6.4

    Hi,
the Snow Leopard DVD you have bought also contains the BootCamp 3.0 drivers needed for installing WIndows 7
After you have installed these drivers you can then download and install the 3.1 driver update for Windows 7 form here http://support.apple.com/downloads/#bootcamp
Make sure to get the correct 64-bit package.
And since it is a .exe file you have to install it while in Windows.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 for Broadcast ProRes HQ Frame rate issues

I switched from Avid to work on a quick project with DSLR footage shot on the 5D Mark III at 29.97 psf which is not to be confused with 29.97i, a standard frame rate necessary for broadcast.   So the commercial spot was cut together, I punched in the proper settings (the very same settings that work with Avid 6.0+ and Final Cut Pro 7), and hit export.  When exporting either a Quicktime Animation or Pro Res file from Premiere Pro CS6, premiere creates a file with a faulty framerate, it comes out as 28.4 instead of 29.97.  I thought I was going crazy, but no, there are tons of documented experiences with 23.94 being 20-something, and on an on.  It seems as if Adobe did not do a good enough job with integrating the Pro Res codec into their software.  The only way I could get around it was to export to something else (Blu-ray H.264 at 29.97), and then re-encode that file to Pro Res HQ with either compressor or adobe media encoder.   The problem lies in exporting progressive footage as interlaced, it just completely screws up the frame rate.    The worst bit is that, I need Pro Res HQ for the distribution house for the commercial spots, they require the ProRes HQ MOV at 29.97i and if anything is off, I get charged for it.
Does anyone else have problems with Adobe Premiere lacking on the professional end? Or similar experience with this problem?
Just do a search for pro res frame rate issue premiere and you will see a lot of other users with the same issue.

  • CWMS 1.5 install disk requirements

I am preparing for a HA CWMS 1.5 install without IRP.  The install will also have a cold failover in a different data center.  I am trying to understand the disk requirements for each host.  The install document says 1TB disk is required.
If I have an install with 3 servers is that 3 x 1TB?
Is there separate storage via NFS for recordings?

    Hi David,
1TB is a requirement for all internal machines, while 300GB is a requirement for IRP servers.
1TB is needed regardless of NFS storage.
NFS storage capacity you will define based on your system's size and usage (

  • Quick Notation Question - Data Rates/Frame Rates/Interlacing

Finally upgraded to a decent prosumer camera and I'm trying to decipher what the manual is telling me about the many different formats it shoots and and the associated options.  I keep seeing things like "There are two basic shooting modes: 720p and 1080i/p.", which I'm finding confusing.  In my understanding, the "p" in 720p means progressive video and the "i" in 1080i means interlaced.  So what do I make of 1080i/p?
On top of this, my camera shoots in "native" mode, which drops duplicate frames used in "over 60" formats.  This will give me variations in the notation like:
    720/24pN
    720p Native 60 fps
    1080i/24p
    1080/24PN
Can someone give me a quick primer about frame rate vs data rate and explain how to read these notations?  I'd appreciate it quite a bit.
    Thanks!

There are so many cameras, capable of so many different formats that providing a manufacturer and model could be helpful in this discussion.
Jim's answer is absolutely correct but I'm going to re-state for clarification.
The i/p designation means you can chose to record as interlaced or progressive for a given resolution.
It sounds like your camera is designed to "capture" images at 60 frames per second, selecting "native" mode means extra frames are deleted and only the desired frames, based on frame rate setting, are recorded to memory. The advantage of "native" @ 24fps is you save space on your memory card. The advantage of NOT using "native" mode is that all 60 frames per second are recorded, but the file metedata tells playback software to only show the frames needed for the specified frame rate (i.e. 24). Since all 60 frames per second are recorded, you use more memory but you also have the option of retrieving all the those frames, if you so desire, at a later time (i.e. for smoother slo-mo).
To be honest I don't know what your spec of 1080i/24p means. If that is truly an option then I would guess it means it will record a 24p image but the metedata would indicate the file should playback at 30fps interlaced by adding the proper 3:2 pulldown. This would give you that "film" look in a broadcast compatible format.
For the most part, you don't want use use any interlaced settings. Very few display devices still in use can properly display interlaced images. Interlacing is only required in some broadcast specifications.
    To answer the second part of your question;
Frame rates are an indication of how many times the moving image is captured over a given period (per second). Higher frame rates means smoother, more "real life" motion. Data rates can generally be considered an indication of image or audio quality. Higher levels of compression result in lower data rates and (generally) lower quality. If squeezing more hours of footage on fewer memory cards is more important than getting the best image quality, choose a lower data rate. Higher frame rates (more images per second) inherently require a higher data rate to retain the same quality as fewer frames at a lower data rate.

  • Want to change frame rate, help, please !!

    hi all,
i want to know whether, jmf does provide any support for changing the frame rate ? is there any ways by which one can change the framerate, of a live captured video ?
i came across one class "FrameRateControl" in jmf, tried it, but wasn't successful in changing the frame rate. plz help me guys.
if u have came across, when doing live capturing using jmstudio, we can change the frame rate. can we do that in our programs tooo.
please someone, wew64, watergad.......... help me out..........,
    thanks for ur help.
    niraj.

the code is here and it is working on windows, but the framerate could not be changed on linux. it keeps saying rcFormat is null on linux. Then I try to change the framerate with JMStudio, it doest not make any difference as well, it seems keep playing the video with preferred frame rate as well. Any ideas?

  • Creating a Gif is different frame rate

If I have an uncompressed .AVI file that I created in After Effects CS5.5 which is 23.976 fps, and load it in Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5, and tell it to create a .GIF of it, at an output fps of 23.976, when I load the created .GIF into Adobe After Effects it tells me the frame rate is 25 fps and there is a black frame padded on the end.  I want the frame rate of the GIF to be what I ask it to be, ie. 23.976, with no additional black frames.
    Here's what happened with screenshots:
    1. I load the uncompressed AVI file that was created in Adobe After Effects CS5.5 into Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5.  Note below that Adobe Media Encoder is saying that the source clip is 23.976 fps, and that the export settings are to create an animated GIF at 23.976 fps.
    2. After Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 has said "done" (Encoding Completed Succesfully) for this export to a .GIF, if I take that .GIF file that Adobe Media Encoder has just created into Adobe After Effects CS5.5, this is what it says:
As can be seen above, Adobe After Effects CS5.5 is saying the GIF file that Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 has just encoded is actually 25 fps, not 23.976 fps like I told it to be exported as.  Also, the GIF Adobe Media Encoder has created is 10 frames long, whereas my original uncompressed AVI is 9 frames long.
Edit: I've just been reading up on the GIF format and it seems it doesn't store a frame rate but instead stores a frame delay, which is in hundredths of a second.  If this is just an integer, is this the reason for the displayed frame rate discrepancy, ie. 1 frame at 23.976 fps  would be 4.1708 hundredths of a second I think, and 1 frame at 25 fps would be 4 hundredths of a second I think - both rounded to the nearest integer would be 4 hundredths of a second so would the frame delay be set to "4" for both 23.976 fps and 25 fps? (there is also the fact that some short time will be taken for the drawing of the frame)
Though even with the above, it shouldn't be increasing the amount of output frames.  It converts it correctly (no additional frames) if I use VirtualDub to convert the AVI to GIF instead of Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5.

Thanks.  Could you get them to also check other parts of the code too.  eg. when I had a work area set in Adobe After Effects CS5.5 and then loaded that project into Adobe Media Encoder (dynamic link etc.) and rendered just the work area I think it was about a frame out then too - I don't think it was a GIF in that case but another type (maybe AVI/H264).

  • Question about changing frame rate from PAL to NTSC

    Hi,
Usually, I would use JES Deinterlacer for changing the 25 fps of PAL into 29.97 NTSC.
Recently I've started shooting with Sony's EX-3, full HD (in PAL mode)
If I'm using JES Deinterlacer, the resolution would drop from 1920x1080 to 720x480 (adding 2 black rectangles to keep the 16:9 ratio)
With the 720x480 res I would need to choose 4:3 aspect in iDVD.
I'm somewhat confused here...Can I keep the original resolution of 1920x1080 and just use another software for changing the frame rate...then burn it with iDVD in widescreen 16:9? Is there anything like JES for that? Or does NTSC DVD means always 720x480?
    Thanks a lot!
    ymotion

You could try doing it in compressor>advanced format conversions. Personally I like taking it to a terranex, but I also have had GREAT success with Graeme Nattress's standards converter. You can google it, or search this forum for a link. It's cheap, only a hundred bucks or so.
    1. Convert the footage pal to ntsc, no frame size change
    2. Open compressor and select the appropriate setting for the length of your video. And also add the dolby audio setting. Don't forget the anamorphic settings noted above.
    3. I don't remember anything at all about idvd, haven't used it since DVDSP came out. DVDSP allows you a whole host of display parameters and infinite customization for your projects. It'll only take you a couple of hours to figure it out, and those are hours well spent.

  • Exporting at a certain frame rate....

I have a 1080 sequence at 23.98fps. I am trying to export Animation MOVs. When I export I get different frame rated almost everytime. I have set the export setting to export at current frame rate. I have even gone into custom frame rate and set it up for a custom frame rate and manually set it for 23.98.
Why am I having this problem?

Please give the exact item properties of the clips you're editing and the exact item properties of the sequence in which you're editing.

I was having trouble with my video being too slow (Nikon d5300 recording at 1920x1080 and 60i frame rate) and I changed it from 59.94 to 29.97 and it corrected my video but now my audio is too slow. What can I change now to fix audio so that the video stays corrected?

I hope this is what you guys were talking about.

  • Need some education on frame rates

I am puzzled about the relationship between frame rates and shutter speed. This may not be strictly an Adobe issue, but you guys seem to know everything! I am using a DSLR camera (Canon 60D) and have it set for 1080 @ 24fps. Because the camera's auto exposure setting for movies was very overexposed, I tried setting it for manual exposure. I simply look at the view screen while adjusting shutter speed and aperture until it looks right to me. My shutter speeds can be all over the map. This worried me because I had seen a how-to video which explained what shutter speed is right for the particular frame rate desired. Yet the videos that are coming out of my camera when I set it manually look just fine. Can someone explain this to me?

Shutter speed is more a function of still photo exposure, Jordan. It really doesn't figure into your video's exposure, which is pretty much all set by the lens's F-stop. In other words, video shot at 24p is not better for low light than video shot at 30 fps. So don't confuse frame rate with shutter speed.
Frame rate is pretty much a function of the video format itself.
Standard NTSC video is 29.97 frames per second.
    Standard PAL is 30 fps.
24p is a more advanced video frame rate that's used to give your video a more film-like quality.

  • Film Scoring Frame Rate Question

I'm about to start scoring an indy film. It was shot in 24p (23.98 frame rate) but the editor supplied me a version that's straight-up 24fps.
As it turns out, the dialog and SFX in this version are out of sync in places, so they're going to have to send me a new QT file. But before they do...
We know that Logic doesn't support the 24p rate, but I believe I can work at virtually any frame rate as long as I'm referencing their timecode when placing pops, etc. Is this correct?
Also, I'm also of the feeling that the frame rate of the movie they supply me with should be exactly the same as theirs -- 24p -- and not rendered at 24 fps. Does that sound right? Or, considering that there's no way I can get Logic's timecode counter to match picture for the entire film, does it matter if I score to a 24fps render?
    -=iS=-

I work with a lot of 24p material in Logic. I've never had a problem. I do ask that the timecode be burned into the video I use for scoring so that I can have an absolute reference even though Logic doesn't natively calculate anything for 23.978 frame rates.
It can get harder if you work in a big team but ultimately I've not once had an issue that was related to Logic's sadly lacking 23.978 ability (scored 4 24p HD projects this year) without a hitch.
Doesn't mean we all wouldn't be happier if they added it in an update. Right Apple? Apple?.... Hello?
A couple different ones. They work.   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   RME FF800, Logic Pro, Sonnox Native Bundle & FCS
