Capture in PAL but Export to DVD in NTSC for friends in the USA

I have a PAL JVC camera which captures well with my G4 and the FCE. Can export the finished project in the NTSC format for video players in the USA. Could that be done with Quicktime? My program is FCE.
Thanks. Roger.

Hello Roger,
for standard conversions I would suggest the following workflow:
• edit your footage in FCE with PAL settings
• export the finished video as self contained QT movie.
• convert to DV/DVCPro NTSC with JES Deinterlacer (http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html)
• author/encode your DVD
hope this helps

  • What is the advantage of exporting mpeg-dvd vs mpeg for dvd if mpeg does not need to transcode audio

What is the advantage of exporting mpeg-dvd vs mpeg for dvd if mpeg does not need to transcode audio and also burns to dvd?

The MPEG2-DVD preset also produces a DVD spec-legal file.  If you use the generic MPEG2 preset, you can too easily create an out-of-spec file that will have to be re-transcoded by En.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD.

In iTunes, click "Store", sign in with your Apple I.D. After singing in, click "Store" again, select "View my Account", re-enter your password and your account info will be displayed.
Click "Edit" in front of "payment information" and select "None"

Disable the Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC option from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes and see if that helps.

  • Changed H264 for Bly Ray settings to PAL, but "pixel aspect ratio" remains NTSC

I changed H264 for Bly Ray settings to PAL, but I can't change the "pixel aspect ratio" which remains NTSC. It remains grey and I can't find the way to unlock this.
    What I miss?

It's a very strange behaviour. When I saw the template it was this way
Whereas, the preset put on the movie (in the batch window) became this way
Same of yours. I don't know why this happened... but I'm happy is the right way...

You must have a separate Apple ID registered in the other store along with a valid bank-issued charge card in the other country, and a legal billing address in the other country.
Sorry... But... You cannot use other countries itunes stores.
You must be within the Country with a Valid Billing Address and Credit Card for that Country to use the iTunes Store of that Country..

  • Import footage 720 x 576 (PAL) but export defaults to 768 x 576

    Hi,
I'm working on a project where I'm creating lots of little video clips for the web.
I'm working in Final Cut Express and the website firm requires I export my files as .avi (not sure why, but that's the deal). I shot on mini DV and when I import my footage it comes in at 720 x 576, which is what I would want. However, when I export as a .avi sequences are converted automatically to 768 x 576. If i export as .mov, I can force the film to export at 720 x 576 (although it adds little black bars down the side in quicktime) but these films look squished to me. Is this problem related to the square/rectangular pixel thing? Could somebody please explain what final cut is doing?
    Thanks
    Mary

Thank you for your quick response, Tom!
So am I right in thinking that 768 x 576 is the correct ratio for the footage on a computer screen?
What has further confused matters for me is that when i spoke to the web design people they said they're putting the footage in a box that is 4:3 and so want the .avi files to be 720 x 576. Surely this is not strictly 4:3 on computer square pixels? Should i crop my footage in order to fit without squishing?

  • Best quality export to DVD Studio Pro for HD

Sorry if this has been resolved before but I am totally confused.
I am using FCP with a Sony HVR-Z1E. I aim to make the highest quality clips on my dvds prefering to have many short high quality dvds than having fewer long low quality ones. I would be very grateful if someone would sujest the best setting for this or to create a new one.
    Thanks for any help
    Regards Alf

Compressor has some presets for making high quality DVDs, I'd start with those. Take a short sample of your footage that you feel best represents the visual quality of the piece, and start testing different configurations. There is no one magical setting that is going to work for everyone. You'll also probably reach a point where you really can't tell the difference between one high bitrate and another higher bitrate. This can be a good indication that you've found the best quality option.
Using CBR encoding will give you the highest, consistent quality, but larger filesizes. Using VBR will maximise your quality to filesize ratio.
Do be aware that DVDs do have a bitrate limit of 9000 Kb/s. This includes both your audio and video. If you're audio and video bit rates add up to a sum greating than 9000 Kb/s, DVD SP will throw a weird error when you try to build your project.

  • Sound will not export with video in only 3 scenes, but exports fine in other scenes for the most part. In the last scene the audio does export to video, but the this scene is a video that I imported with rolling credits. the rolling credits do not appear

The above title should explain my problem, I have been working on this for a while and I am getting exhausted

Why not post this in the iMove forum area?

  • Can someone please tell me the default Firefox settings for Fonts and sizes (the advanced font settings, too)? I started playing around with mine and now I just want them back to normal, but there's no reset button for fonts, just the zoom features. Help!

Under "Firefox," "Preferences," and then "Fonts and Colors" there is a setting that I would like to know the default for, as well as all of those that you see when you select the "Advanced" button for Fonts.

You can see the defaults in a screenshot in this KB article: [[Some text shows up bold after upgrade]]<br />
You can check the font setting in: Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors: Advanced

  • HD to Pal SD 16:9 DVD issues

    Hi all,
I have searched the forums for days and can’t find the best solution; I’m having trouble creating a Good PAL 16:9 SD DVD from a HD Source. The issues I’m having is the DVD looks washed out and very soft, also the graphics look bad with lines through them like they are not resolved properly.
I have being making DVD’s with compressor for about 5 years and I would be happy if I could get the same quality as when we used to shoot in DV.
    Below is my process:
    Shoot
    Sony EX3 Camera 1920x1080i50,
    Edit Timeline
    1920x1080i
    Prores 422,
    Pixel aspect ratio: Square pixels
    Field dominance: Upper
I have tried all solutions on the forums such as turning on Frame control(combination of different setting), down converting in FCP first, down converting in Compressor first, tried CB instead of VBR.
After days of testing, the best result I have had so far is to out put HD from fcp then get MPEG Streamclip to do the down convert then use compressor to make the DVD. This fixes the problem with the titles but not the soft focus issue.
Also I’m checking these DVD’s on a full def Sony LCD and SD CRT. It does look better on the SD CRT but most of my clients have LCD’s.
One thought I had is that my original footage uses square pixels but compressor changes it to 0.7031 Pal 601(16:9) I’m not sure what affect this is having on the quality of the DVD?
    I'm using FCP 7.02 and Compressor 3.5.2
I would appreciate any help.(Plus I can’t wait til my clients get Blu-ray!)

I've been having similar problems, and it appears as if us in PAL world seem to get hit harder with this, leading me to think that the problem is in the Upper Field Dominance of HD being sloppily converted to Lower Field Dominance of PAL DVD. Those in NTSC world start in upper and finish in upper field dominance.
For the record, I'm using HDV 1080i 50 footage from our Z5's recording to flash card, ingested using Log and Transfer (with the Sony memory unit plug for FCP installed).
Many people have put forward their suggestions for HD to DVD workflow. Almost all of them are from the US and don't have to worry about moving from one format to another with different field dominance. No one has been able to tell me where the change takes place... they just know it happens somehow. If you are going from FCP to Compressor to DVD SP, I think DVD SP is changing the dominance as it preps for PAL DVD. I don't know how hard the conversion is, but I don't like the idea of DVD SP doing it.
I tried changing Compressor's settings to output in lower field dominance, btu all I got was unwatchable flicker.
I tried a demo version of BitVice and it yielded the same results as Compressor (just poor quality when field dominance set to "Same as source" and unwatchable flicker when set to lower). This adds weight to my theory that the problem is in the field dominance conversion which I think is being done by DVD SP. Maybe if an expert on this field dominance can confirm or rule out my theory, I can move past this bump in the road.
Has anyone tried moving projects over to the Adove suite and outputted via Encore?
    Cheers
    Dav

  • Capturing a PAL source to FCP?

    Hello.
Does anybody know the process to capture a PAL source on FCP using a NTSC system (America). I do have a JVC deck that can play and recognize the PAL source, but it doesn't capture to FCP. I've tried the various presets etc. in the log and capture window to no avail. What do I have to do?
    Thanks,
    Jordan

In the FINAL CUT PRO menu, there is a selection for EASY SETUPS.
    Select it.
You will then see a list of presets. Many of them are PAL.
