Capture offline from p2 cards

I still usually work with DV format, but today I received three p2 cards and as I am with little space in my hard disk,I was wondering if I can work offline with this media. Is it possible capture offline
directly from p2 cards and later back to online? how????

Depends. AVCIntra P2 or DVCPRO HD P2? AVCIntra can be transcoded to ProRes Proxy. DVCPRO HD cannot, it comes in native only.
If I were you, I'd get another hard drive. They are cheap. The cost of doing business.

I want to know if JMF can capture sound/audio from the sound card. Until now we have been capturing audio from microphone. but is there any possibility of capturing audio from sound card using JMF.
The audio captured from the sound card is to be streamed using JMF/RTP API.

  • Capturing video from added card in a camera?

I'm currently weighting pros and cons on a SONY HDR-PJ430V handycam that has a 32GB internal memory but also an option to add a SDXC (class 10) card up to 64GB.
I'd like to know for those of you who owns, either this cam, or any other AVCHD cam with such an option to add card : can you capture the shots directly from the add-on card, in FCPX, or do you first need to transfer to the internal memory ?
(I was reading a post from someone in another forum stating that it was not possible to transfer from the card to computer - and I wonder if this is ''app-related'' or ''cam/brand'' related... Not being able to transfer directly from the card would sound to me totally stupid and enough to return the camera (assuming other models can do it). - I'm switching from a tape-based (mini DV) cam to save time, not to waste it another way... (For the time being, I experimented only with transfer from internal memory - with FCPX or with the provided SONY software - shots that I can afterward import into FCPX. (Adobe Premiere can't even see the cam yet for a reason I ignore...)
    Thanks,
    Rob

You can import directly from the card, either from the camera or a card reader.
it was not possible to transfer from the card to computer
    That's incorrect.

  • Audio capture (recording) from sound card doesn't work

I have a Asus Xonar DS sound card that uses CMI8788 chip,  AV200 kernel driver and snd-virtuoso kernel module. The card is recognised on installation (i686) and there are no issues with the sound output.
This is a new installation to try to fix the (lack of) recording problem. I know the card can be used to capture sound being played from a web browser, Youtube and internet radio, as I previously had it working with audacity, gnome-recorder and mhwaveedit, but some months ago, after an upgrade it stopped working.
Alsamixer shows the card as AV200 and I have toggled all the capture options and raised levels to no avail.
The card is not broken as the capture works fine on Kubuntu and even Win7. I have tried pasting asound.state from Kubuntu but there was no diference.
Does anybody know a good troubleshooting guide that deals with the capture side, not output.

"volume: can't open /dev/mixer " is for the users who use OSS so there; you should find out what uses OSS and change it if it is possible and not solely on oss.
and the error I am having is because I defined the specific software to hwd:0,0. so what i should do is to check my softwares and set the audio output to "default"
So in another word use you sound card and in output option of your sound card choose "default over hwd:0,0"

  • Urgent help:JMF capture sound from sound card?

I am trying to capture what I was playing on my computer using Java code. It's apparently different from capturing sound input through microphones. How can I manage to do this? Actually, while I play a song or something like that on my computer(server), I wanna capture it and send them to other computers(client) in the LAN.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance!Ummmmm, you'd probably need to set your recording device to be "System mixer" and then it would work just like capturing from the microphone.

If you're asking about Live Capture, where you record the camera feed direct to hard disk, then you need a Firewire interface or one of the (few) supported HDMI/SDI cards such as the AJA Kona, Matrox MX02 or BlackMagic Intensity Pro - however those have very specific motherboard requirements so you need to research them carefully before buying anything.
For an intro to Live Capture I suggest you read the manual: Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Capturing and digitizing footage

  • Photos downloaded from SD card unaccessible "because the volume on which it resides is currently offline"

This has happened multiple times such that I can't share any photos except those I uploaded to Aperture from my iPhone. All of my cameras use SD cards. They show up in Aperture and I download them to a new project. The project appears, goes through the download process. Aperture then asks me if I want to delete the files and I do (yes, multiple times I have done this, foolishly not recalling that 2 months prior this happened).
The files appear and can be rotated but not otherwise edited, not shared, not located, not exported. There are no files on the SD cards. The files however have great resolution on my screen - it's clear they are not just thumbnails.
    Please help! This really *****.

thanks for this Léonie. at least i'll get the previews. it points to the SD card. unfortunately aperture deleted all of the files on the SD card ... so i'm not sure what it's pointing at.
assuming those files are irretrievable (you'll be a hero to me if they aren't [??]),
You only let Aperture delete the files from the card and did not reformat the card in the camera, right?
Then put the card into a card reader and use a media recovery program to look for image files on the card. I am not sure, if Disk Drill will work for SD cards, but usually it is quite good at retrieving image files.

  • Capture Video from Panasonic AG-HMC40

I am having trouble capturing video from my camera - Panasonic AG-HMC40 HD camera
I keep getting a message:  Capture Device Offline.
I am able to capture from iMovie and Final Cut X....
Does anyone know the correct capture settings?

You don't have to capture. You ingest.
IE: Copy files from your camera memory card onto your hard drive using the media browser.
See extract from Adobe Help below:
Import assets from file-based sources with Media Browser
You can import assets into Premiere Pro directly from tapeless media. However, it is more efficient to transfer tapeless media contents to a hard disk before importing. Also, playback performance is much better from a dedicated internal hard drive or RAID than from a camera or memory card reader.
Use the Media Browser, instead of File > Import, to import files from tapeless sources. The Media Browser assembles the relevant files into coherent clips, and does not import irrelevant non-media files sometimes found in the folders of tapeless media.
(Optional) Transfer the entire contents of one or more P2 cards, Sony Compact Flash cards, XDCAM media, XDCAM EX SxS cards, hard disk camcorders, DVDs, or AVCHD media to a hard disk. For information about transferring these media, see About transferring files.
Note:  For XDCAM EX, copy the entire BPAV folder and its contents, not just one MP4 file at a time.
If the Media Browser is not already open, select Window > Media Browser. Note:  You can dock or group the Media Browser like any other panel in Premiere Pro.
Browse to the folder containing the media files. The Media Browser shows a thumbnail or icon (depending on the format) and shot name for each shot in the folder. The Media Browser automatically aggregates spanned clips and shot metadata from the subfolders into single clips for any of these formats. The Media Browser shows different sets of metadata for different formats.
(Optional) To preview a shot before importing it, double-click the shot in the Media Browser.  Premiere Pro plays the clip in the Source Monitor without importing it into the Project panel.
Either select File > Import From Browser, drag clips from the Media Browser into the Project panel, or drag clips from the Media Browser into a timeline.
The asset or assets are imported into the Project panel as whole clips.

  • Naming files Log and Transfer'd from a card

I'm still experimenting with workflow after starting to capture on an AVHCD card instead of tape.
I'm getting the shots into FCP ok, and have worked out how to assemble them so it's like working off tape rather than wading endlessy through scores of files.
But this requires renaming the files - which I'd have wanted to do anyway.
For back-up I'm then copying the raw contents of the card to a small drive before deleting to make room for new shots. So these files still have those strange numbered names that the camera makes.
At some point I will also empty the FCP scratch discs, at which time the card copy on the small drive will become my only source. So if I ever have to rebuild the project I'll need to relink to these.
In the old days we just redigitised the tapes and all was well, but I'm not sure what will happen when I try to re-transfer the AVCHD data from the small drive - as the file names now will be different. I presume I'll have to relink manually, which could be quite a pain and could invlolve a lot of trial and error.
I assume FCD can't reference some code which remains unchanged when you rename by any chance?
Is there something I should be doing that I'm not?
(Thinking now I should have been more careful to create uniqle 'reel' names - oh well)
    Thanks
    Tom

    Spectacular fail.
As I feared, when I try to relink the offline media, FCP is looking for the names I created in the browser - which in the old days would have been the names I created in the Log and Capture window when digitising from tape (EG London GVs) and therefore consistent, whereas the names on the card back-up disc are still the names that the camera created (EG M2000127).
I've tried finding the first and last clips and linking, but still FCP tellls me that the attributes don't match, so I've plainly got the wrong ones.
I reckon that if I still had the camera names in the browser it would find them ok, but I don't.
What does everyone else do? The only thing I can think of is to copy all the files after Transferring them in, and then renaming the dupes, but this would double the data storage, and I'm not even sure it would work.
I have the raw footage on disc and it will play just fine. And I have a healthy FCP project. Shurely they will want to dance?

  • Capturing Video from a Camera that only has a USB port

I have read a number of posts from people who have been frustrated because they can not 'capture' video from a video camera that only has a USB port on it.  Unfortunately, Premier wants to see a Firewire connection; otherwise, it won't connect to a camera.   However, it is still very easy to import your video clips from such a camera into Premier Pro:
    1. Turn on your video camera and connect it to your computer via the USB connections.
    2. In Premier, go to the Media Browser.
    3. In the Media Browser, you will see all the drives on your computer. Amongst those drives will be a drive that was created for your camera. (It will be identified as X: (Removable).  Double click on that drive and you will see all your recorded video clips in the column just to the right.
    4. Highlight any/all clips that you want to import. Then, simply drag those clips/files up into your Project Organizer (normally, in the upper left corner of the page)
    That's it.
You'll probably find this method of importing your clips/files off of your camera easier than if you did have a Firewire and utilized the 'Capture' function.

And a bigger problem will be that that camera (with its card or HDD) will have to be connected, whenever one wishes to edit, and it cannot be overwritten to).
As has been mentioned, the Project file does NOT contain any Assets, with the exception of Titles created in PrPro's Titler. This ARTICLE will give a bit more background on what is in the Project file, plus a bit more.
The same sort of problem can arise if one Imports a VOB from a DVD-Video disc, without Copying the VOB's over to the HDD. First, that DVD must be inserted for each editing session, and things will be horribly slow.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Capturing Audio from DAT

    Hello,
I'm trying to capture audio from a DAT deck (Tascam DA-20) into FCP HD by routing it through my JVC BR-DV600U DV deck (RCA output from DAT, RCA input to DV deck, Firewire into FCP).
The DV deck's input is set to line-in, and the audio is being routed through (audio meters on DV deck mimic those on DAT deck, and I can hear the audio through the headphones jacked into my DV deck).
However, when I try to capture the audio on FCP, I am unsuccessful, prompting the following window from FCP: "Error: Final Cut Pro HD was unable to read the movie file just captured."
Now, I use the same set up I described above to capture footage from my Beta deck into FCP with no problems (route Beta signal through DV deck and firewire it into FCP). This leads me to believe that perhaps the glitch lies within my Capture Presets.
At first, I tried to capture the signal as an Audio-Only DV NTSC 48 Khz/Non-controllable device. After that failed, I tried to create my own capture preset, but am not sure it will make a difference, as the only input choices I am given are DV Audio, Built-In Audio, and None.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Why not capture the audio content outside of FCP, check the sample rate for 48Khz/16-bit, convert if necessary, save as an AIFF file, and then import that resulting sound file into FCP?
Any good audio app, including STP will do captures.
You are probably going to need to do some cleanup on the audio anyway before you use it, so why not just use an audio app to do it beforehand?
Besides, if you have an audio device (PCI card or Firewire device) in your Mac, you can use the S/PDIF port for your connection to the DAT and do a digital transfer when you import.
As I understand the way you are doing it now, you are taking digital content from the DAT, converting it to analog for the connection into your deck, and then re-converting it into digital when you capture it back into FCP.
One big advantage of digital audio (and video) is to avoid generation loss and added noise during transfer if you go D-to-D.
If you don't have an audio card or Firewire A/D audio I/O device with S/PDIF ports in your Mac, then see if you can find a friend who has one and can do the transfer for you. Then he can give you the file on a CD-ROM.
    That's what I'd do.

  • Images from camera card

I downloaded images from my camera card into Elements. They have an offline symbol on them and the images are fuzzy. What does this mean and how do I correct it?

Do you have your card connected or disconnected ?
It seems you have added images from your card but have not moved to your hard drive, so if you have card disconnected then the images will show up as Offline as the source images are still on card, Elements just have the thumbnails.
In order to solve this, you need to first copy all the images to your hard drive from your card and then import in PSE from that copied location.
    Hope this helps !!

  • Transferring images from SD cards

I copied an SD card with video images onto my desktop with a view to doing a log & transfer later. However, I can't seem to begin this process or to see the images. How can I do this? In the past I have been able to log and transfer directly from SD card, so that function id operational on my set-up.
Situation: On my desktop I have a folder named "PRIVATE" containing a folder titled AVCHD containing "BDMV" (+"AVCHDTN" on a separate branch) containing "STREAM" containing many relatively heavy .MTS files ...but cannot call them up or open them individually.
    I am a beginner.

There are many solutions: Your first stop is www.macwindows.com, and read everything in site re: formatting ext HD's to run on both, your best solution. There are apps that allow macs to read/write/ drag & drop to /from Fat 32 & NTSF partitions, and visa versa, read about networking and remote controlling PC's and Macs, as well. A simpler but time consuming solution is internet backup/ syncing via Sugar Sync or Mobile me.
*maybe you can help me: I'm about to get my first PC to capture digital dental xrays. I'm told that the imaging sensors drivers only work on a PC/xp or Vista, 32 or 64, though they are written in 32. I want to network (automatic syncing of dental image files and practice mgmt files from the imaging app & mgmt app) the PC to an iMac, either booted in Vista 64 or running it in emulation. The PC Imaging app (Apteryx) and the PC Mgmt app (Dentimax) works either way on the iMac. How do I:(1) set up a wireless network, (2) that onlt auto syncs the 2 dental apps files, (3) on a Vista booted iMac, or ($) on a Vista emulated by Fusion, iMac????? Thanks! I assume a V booted imac is a PC to PC setup, but I have no idea how to do this? I also find it hard to believe that the sensor drivers wont work on a V booted iMac!
