Capture problem: no video

I'm trying to capture a video clip to FCP and I'm getting the following error:
"This operation could not be completed as there is no video."
The Log & Capture window shows color bars, with "Preview Disabled" over-printed. Nonetheless, the vcr controls do control the video camera.
FCP recognizes timecode when I set an IN point; but after setting the OUT point of the clip, the timecode for both IN & OUT are set to the same frame. ???
I have one 3 minute clip to capture. Capture Now would be fine.
Video camera: Canon Elura, NTSC MiniDV, 5-6 years old, connected via FireWire.
FCP: v5.1
MacOSX: v10.4.9
Sequence settings: from DV NTSC 48 kHz preset
(Searching through this forum, I've seen reference to a preset called NTSC Basic Capture. I've found no such preset through my FCP interface.)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Searching through this forum, I've seen reference to a preset called NTSC Basic Captur
Not sure but perhaps you are referring to the FCP EASY SETUP for DV-NTSC. It's a simple way to apply all the proper settings to use for capturing and editing DV NTSC material which is what you want.
FINAL CUT PRO > EASY SETUP then choose DV NTSC fro the drop list.
After making that selection create a new sequence, save the project and close FCP.
Connect your camera via FW and power it on. Place it in VCR mode.
Then Open Final Cut and your project.
Then open Log and Capture.

  • Capture Problem - No Video-Audio only TC

    Hello,
    I haven't had this problem before, and I've done a search on this forum. But none of the solutions that seemed to have worked for other posters has worked for me. So here we go.....
    I'm using OS 10.4.11, QT 7.4.1, FCP 6.0.2 on a Dual 2.5GHz G5, Decklink Extreme.
    I'm trying to capture MiniDV material on a Sony HVR M15 player (Pal version) via Firewire. In the Log&Capture window, I can control the player, and I see the TC, but no Audio or Video comes through. I've checked the deck controls, the tapes are recognised as MiniDV 50i.
    I get video and audio with the Blackmagic Deckcontrol app, but that is rather clumsy.
    No other device uses a FW port. Capturing to my 2nd internal harddrive.
    I hooked the deck up to my Intel MBP and I got a glimpse of video, but then it disappeared and I got the same problems as with the G5.
    On the G5, I then trashed my prefs, shut down, waited for 5 minutes, started the deck, turned on the G5, tried it again, no use.
    I used Easy Setup DV-PAL, btw....
    Anyone have any ideas, am I missing something? I know the deck works, I hooked it up to my TV via composite out.
    Sheesh, always when it rains.....
    Cheers,
    Colin

    Hi X,
    good to know that. however, in my case the fw cable wasn't attached. I had to attach the deck to my telly, which is in another room. Well, I did get some excercise yesterday.
    But thanks for your help. One thing I know is that I won't hire this deck again. It wouldn't work with my G4/G5/MBP, different OSX and FCP versions.
    Oh well, I wouldn't mind so much if it hadn't also wrecked one tape. I guess if things go wrong, they REALLY go wrong.
    Ok, gotta go through the material now, try and do something nice with it.
    Hope you'll have a better week and thanks,
    Colin

  • Picture / Video capturing problem with Nokia 5233

    Hi All,
    I am facing a problem when I capture a picture/video with my new Nokia 5233 phone I bought yesterday.
    1. When I try to capture a video, nothing is visible on the phone screen. I click on Record button and the shooting starts and then I click on it again and it stops. But I when it tries save the video it gives an error "Unexpected error occurred. Please restart your phone".
    2. I reboot the phone. But I face the same problem. I face the same problem while capturing pictures.
    I have tried following as a measure to solve the problem but no success till now:
    1. Reboot the phone: tried it more than 20 times. Does not work
    2. Soft Restart: Removed the battery for 1 minute and powered the phone back. Does not work
    3. Restore Factory Settings: Restored the phone to factory settings. Does not work.
    4. I checked my firmware version. Its 12.1.089, RM-625. I think no firmware upgrade is available at present
    Please advise what steps should I follow to cure the problem.
    Please also let me know in case you are facing a similar problem with your device.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Went to Nokia care. They took 10 days... but could not correct the problem...
    Then again left it there for 7-8 days... finally got my phone replaced...

  • Problem with Video capture Device

    i have a problem with FME. i am using Avermedia TV capture
    device and Canon 3ccd Digital Video Camcorder ( PAL ) when i open
    the FME interface the warning given for " Problem with Video
    Capture Device".
    i read all the topics in Flash Media Encoder Category, if
    this problem occures my capture device ( i expect MPEG ) how to
    solve this problem?
    Thanks,

    The Device Matrix is something we'll be updating in the
    future as we continue to test more and more equipement. Ideally, I
    would like for users such as yourselves to be able to add to it and
    tell us what has worked for you as well. If anyone has any ideas
    about what technology we should use to do this (e.g., this forum? a
    wiki?) please let me know.
    Regarding the devices not working - the main problem we see
    is that the system requirements are not being met. Here is what to
    check for:
    - are you running on Windows XP (only supported OS right
    now)?
    - do you have DirectX client runtime version 9c or higher
    installed?
    - do you have hardware acceleration enabled?
    - do you have 32bit graphics enabled?
    - do you have the latest direct show drivers from the
    card/device manufacturer?
    Thanks,

    Flash Media Encoder 2.5 working without any errors

    The second message that you are getting "The selected audio device "Beholder Aud Capture (SAA7135)" doesn't allow setting volume intensity. Disabling the volume slider control." is because your device does not let you change intensity of volume. This warning message is just to tell user that volume slider will remain disabled for the selecetd device. This is new addition in FMLE 3.0 and was not there in FMLE 2.5
    Also for first message, please make sure that no other instance of FMLE is already running using this device. You can verify this from task manager. If any other instance of FMLE is running then please close that instance so that device gets free for new instance.

    3..Suggest any other format for audio and video capturing and saving..
    Thanks in advance..

    Thanks T.B.M..
    It worked..My webcam details are as follows:
    {color:#ff6600}Name = vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):0
    Locator = vfw://0
    {color}
    It suports the following formats..
    {color:#ff6600}
    0. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 320x240, Length=230400, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=960, Flipped
    1. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 160x120, Length=57600, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=480, Flipped
    2. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 176x144, Length=76032, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=528, Flipped
    3. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 352x288, Length=304128, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=1056, Flipped
    4. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 640x480, Length=921600, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=1920, Flipped
    {color}
    So made the following changes in my code..
    dl=CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(new VideoFormat(VideoFormat.{color:#ff6600}RGB{color}));
    ml=((CaptureDeviceInfo)dl.firstElement()).getLocator();
    formats=new VideoFormat(VideoFormat.RGB);
    model = new ProcessorModel(ml,new Format[]{formats}, new FileTypeDescriptor(FileTypeDescriptor.{color:#ff6600}MSVIDEO{color}));
    p=Manager.createRealizedProcessor(model);
    source=p.getDataOutput();
    sink = Manager.createDataSink(source, new MediaLocator("file:///c:/Adiyae.{color:#ff6600}avi{color}"));
    p.addControllerListener(this);
    p.realize();
    Now the file is getting created with its size depending upon how long i capture..This is fine..But when i try to play the file using a media player it doesnt open.. when i tried opening it with JMStudio i get the following message..
    {color:#ff6600}Controller Error:
    Failed to realize:Failed to parse the input media..
    {color}Also can you tell me how to choose the FileTypeDescriptors for a particular video format.. The only FileTypeDescriptor that works with mine is the MSVIDEO..

  • Problem with video capture device, with a virtual camera

    I try to use Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3 with a virtual camera(DirectShow Filter) but met such a problem:
    "Error connecting input preview RGB filter."
    "Failed with error 80004005:SetupInputVideoPreview(pFilter, pguidCategory)"
    "Failed with error ffffff97:SetupVideoPreview(pFilterSource)"
    "Problem with video capture device. Please verify that the video capture device is working correctly and is not already in use."
    However, it is good to use AMCap,
    what's the problem with FMLE.
    Looking forward to your replies. Thx!

    Did you ever figure out the problem/solution?

  • Capturing Problem with Sony TRV330

    Capturing problem with Sony digital8 trv330.
    I recently purchased the above camcorder from eBay for capturing old 8mm/Hi8 tapes for editing purpose. The camcorder set to A/V -> DV OUT connected with Firewire to my Power G4 and the Easy Setup was DV-NTSC. The playback on the capture window looks OK except there were no timecode in the Timecode Duration Field and the Current Timecode Field (both shown 00:00:00:00) during playback but there was timedoce in the camcorder viewfinder. When I click the Capture Now button, the capturing window show up with message “waiting for timecode ….”. I have to click “esc” to stop the capturing operation. I trash the Preferences and Ran the Disk Utility without success. I also tried the Easy Setup with DV-NTSC DV Converter as well as DV-NTSC 32Khz, nothing work.
    My set up is: Mac Power G4 version 10.5.5/ F.C.E. 4.0.1/ QT7.5.5/ Startup 160 GB-89 GB available/ Scratch 350GB-277GB available. Folks, I need help. Thanks everybody.

    Hi, I have a similar problem. I am trying to digitize my 8mm tapes (via firewire) using final cut express (4.0.1). Using easy setup I use DV-NTSC DV Converter and do capture now. I transfer the entire tape but notice the audio is out of synch with the video. This problem gets worse throughout the transfer process. When I use the esc to complete the transfer I get the error " The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape....." So after searching around it is recommended I change the audio sample rate to 32 kHz option. However, when I do this using easy setup and picking DV-NTSC 32kHz I cannot use capture now because I have no timecode and so the window comes up with the message "waiting for timecode". Since there is no timecode this option does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

  • Capture audio and video files to seperate files

    Forum,
    Having suffered problems with OS 10.5 and Quicktime 7.4.1 I have done a clean install with 10. 4 .11.
    When I select capture the following notice appears
    "Audio only capture selected,video preview disabled"
    In system settings "capture audio and video to seperate files " is NOT checked.
    But that may not mean the same as the statement in in the capture window.
    I have searched HELP and a book called" Optimizing your Final Cut Pro System" but can not find an answer.
    Advice would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Michael Craven

    Hi,
    Check this:
    in Log & Capture window select Clip Settings tab and make sure video box is checked.

  • Capture Problems with Vista

    While this problem is not specific to PE4, I am hoping someone will be able to help me.
    I recently purchaed a Dell XPS desktop for video editing. I am unable to capture from my SONY HDRHC7 camcorder. The new computer runs on Vista Home Premium; my old computer (never had any capture problems before) runs on XP. According to Dell, Adobe, and SONY websites, there are no additional drivers that I need to capture video.
    Has anyone had similar problems? And, if so do you have any advice? Thank you.

    Hi Butch,
    Here is your solution from the Read Me:
    Windows Vista Compatibility
    Windows Vista is a brand new operating system from Microsoft and has not been available in its final form long enough for Adobe to fully certify Lightroom for use on Vista. Adobe is working hard to finalize support or Vista as quickly as possible and will deliver appropriate software updates over the launch period. Lightroom 1.0 will install and run on Windows Vista but Adobe cannot guarantee the quality of the software experience until final testing is completed. Known issues for using Lightroom 1.0 on the Vista operating system are listed below:
    Lightroom CD and DVD burning tools will not currently function
    Importing files directly from a Camera or Card Reader may not function properly. Please
    copy files to a local hard drive via the operating system before importing the files into
    Lightroom
    This may not be the answer you wanted but until the next release.........

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 Batch Capture Problems

    Hi,
    I'm sorry for the repost, but the older questions I can find on this topic won't allow me to reply and they were never answered (last post several months ago).
    I'm having the batch capture problem with Premiere Pro CS5.5. Capture with device control works great when single capturing. When I log clips and attempt to batch capture, though, I get the "capture failed: device not found" error in my capture log. I have checked through the FAQ and the complete premiere manual on batch capturing. I've set my device (still using a Canon XL1) and even checked the video size...it matches that of my project (someone on another forum mentioned that this could be an issue). I have had no luck.
    Could anyone tell me if this issue has been resolved, or redirect me to a resolution?
    Thanks in advance for any help!!
    Steve

    I have encountered this problem if the current tape position is beyond the last recorded point when you start the batch capture or if any "OUT" points are beyond the last recorded position or if the capture spans any unrecorded portions of the tape. I always thought it was my camera but maybe it is a PPro issue.

  • G-RAID2 capture problem

    I am working with a new Beta deck (8bit uncompressed) and a new G-RAID2 drive FW800. I was having time code break problems earlier (HD to beta downconverts) so I switched to capture now for some tests. Hours later I'm having huge capture now problems (poor jittery capture and the video monitor window gets way behind). When I switch to another regular FW400 drive, the problem clears up completely. I have got to get a working drive in ASAP, but GRAID2 has me scared. This is one of those 'I'm screwed' moments.
    Chris

    Something's wrong. A graid2 ought to bench somewhere north of 70mb/s. Heck, even a pedestrian Lacie porsche design drive can run over 30 mb/s read and write.
    Are there any devices attached to the FW400 port? if so, disconnect them and try again.
    fwiw - all the oem firewire ports on the Mac share the same bus - it doesn't matter if they are 400 or 800.

  • Audio Only Capture problem

    I'm using FCE on a Macbook and although it's worked absolutely perfectly for about a month, I'm suddenly getting a capture screen which shows colour bars and has the message 'Audio Capture Only Selected - Video preview disabled' and, sure enough, it's only capturing audio. Yet when playing the tape through, the video shows perfectly well. I can find no reference anywhere in the FCE manual or in the software to capturing audio only, so can't revert to capturing video as well as audio. I've clearly done something wrong - can anyone help?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Nothing that you have described in this thread is common to the application. These are the first instances of anything like this that I have heard. Your first message creates a function which is not normally available in the application. I'm not sure how that was achieved, but there seems to be something significantly wrong with your system or the way the application is installed. You cannot make a project, save it, and close the application without generating the FCE prefs files.
    Did you recently upgrade your operating system? Did you do a clean erase of your system drive and install the new OS, or did you upgrade it?
    There may also be an application installation problem. You should begin by repairing permissions on your system drive. You might want to delete evertyhing related to Final Cut Express, Title 3D and Title Craw. Make sure you're an admin user and reinstall the software directly from the install discs.

  • Is there going to be a Solution for the Capture Problem?

    I've noticed that it is not only me but Final Cut Pro is not capturing video properly, it should not be so hard to capture from my camcorder(PV-DV51), when I hit log and capture the program just quits, after reinstalling, deleting preferences, the Firewire dock is able to see the camera, I can capture with IMovie for crying out loud! so the only question left, is do I have to upgrade Quicktime 7 player to the full version? because I did not find the upgrade in final cut studio package so do I have to purchase separately?
    Thanks for the help

    "The capture problem" is not, AFAIK, striking any number of folks. At least I've not heard of it. If you're running Final Cut Studio 5, there's not a separate serial - it's a gestalt thingie upon install.
    FCP uses QuickTime to do its capturing (iMovie does not). You might try reinstalling QuickTime (don't skip any steps). Go to /Library/Receipts. Trash all QuickTime related .pkg files (Don't worry, you're only deleting receipts so that a full install will take place). Go to http://www.quicktime.com/ and download the latest installer and run it. Reboot.

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 capture problem

    Hi,
    I read the many posts about capture problems but did not recognise my issues.
    I just got FX5900XT-VTD128 and I am trying to get it to capture with WinDVD creator (bundled). WinDVD would start but then it would hang without listing any capture device.
    I installed the latest WDM drivers from the nVidia site (2.20_wdm-vivo.exe)
    Device manager list the following devices under sound, video and game controllers:
     - nVidia WDM A/V Crossbar (12-2-2003)
     - nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal)  (12-2-2003)
    The multimedia tab in control panel show the following under "devices"
      under "Video Capture device" -->  -Microsoft WDM Capture
    After reading the posts, I suspected a WDM driver problem so I did the following:
       1- removed both nVidia WDM devices from device manager
       2- removed Microsoft WDM Capture from multimedia devices
       3- removed nVidia WDM drivers with Driver Cleaner
    I rebooted and confirmed that no nVidia WDM devices were present in Device manager and that no WDM capture device were present under multimedia capture devices.
    I re-installed nVidia WDM driver 2.20 and rebooted. Windows plug and play recognised both nVidia WDM devices and installed drivers for it.
    When I checked, both Device manager and Multimedia capture device were back as they were before the driver re-install yet WinDVD still hang when I click "capture" (Window is still alive, I can kill WinDVD manualy but I would then not be able to restart it without first rebooting).
    I tried Flycap and VirtualVCR with no better result, they hang.
    I am using Win98 SE on a Gygabyte  GA-7N400-l motherboard with AMD Sempron 2400+ CPU and 512MB RAM. I have no other card in the PC.
    I am using nVidia driver 66.94 from the file: "66.94_win9x_english.exe"
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    also refer to this post....5900 Video Capture
    its name is fx900xt capture and got 5 thumbs on the forum title for easy to find....
