Capture recorded tv programs on my sky+ with imovie

Hi
I have a sky+ (pvr) box which has a function to allow a dvd recorder to record programs on it's hard drive. From what I can see the box simply plays them for the dvd recorder to record.
My question is this - is it possible to wire a sky+ box to my mac to record the program to my hard drive to the import into imovie?
I would have to use an RF cable so any advice on necessary hardware would good too.

I believe iMovie only supports direct importing of video via Firewire from a camera capable of machine control from that output. I think you would have to capture the video from your sky thing, with something like Snapz Pro, then convert it to a compatible format for iMovie, but by that time, you may not need to import it into iMovie if your intention is to simply capture the video for viewing on your Mac.

DXG 565V not agreeing with iMovie...

Dunno if this is the right place to post this, but...
I just received a new camcorder for Xmas, and tried connecting it to the computer. It pops up on the desktop and I can access .avf files or something along those letters, and iPhoto opens but doesn't read anything off the no-name camera. iMovie won't work with it at all. The camera claims to tape DV, but connects through a USB cable. The CD won't work with Mac. Is there anywhere I can download a mac driver for it, or should I just try and pull the files off the device in the Finder and try to convert them?

Issue with Service Contracts Order Capture Integration (OKSOCINT) program

Hi,
Could anyone tell me how to turn off trace for Service Contracts Order Capture Integration (OKSOCINT) program? Trace is not enabled at conc. program level or user level, but the program still generates large trace files. It is scheduled to run every hour. I could not find anything on metalink regarding this. We're on 11.5.9 version of Apps. Any help is appreciated.

Need to record what I hear from speakers with other program

I need to record what I hear with a program that can record a programs video and audio.
Is there any way to set speakers as the recording source, instead of mic, or can I set it to both speakers and mic?
If not, then we need an upgrade to our audio mixer that allows this to be done so we can use programs like Snagit or Camtasia to record our music programs playing. The way it is now, I can only set the mic as the recording source, so I miss the audio the program is playing but get the video of the program playing it.

I tried to do some research and it looks like you need to have an external device and its drivers, such as an external microphone, installed on the computer to record audio that can be saved as a sound file. Another Suggestion is to try an auxiliary spliter for your headphones and external speakers?
What software are you using to record your game?

Audio capture recording .mov - .m4a

I accidentally saved an audio capture recording with QT without switching it to save as audio. It's now a .mov (saved as movie) instead of .m4a. How do I convert from the .mov to .m4a? Also, is there any way to make it save as audio (.m4a) by default?

A follow-up question: When audio capture is stopped, how can the client program find out when all the audio data has been written to a file on the server. The client needs to know this to perform subsequent operations on the audio file.

It may be possible with an analog connection from the Direct TV box to a capture card. Quality will be moderate to poor. Digital copies are not possible for reasons that should be obvious. The Hauppauge unit you speak of will not help you.

Recording tv programs

Can someone tell me what I need to purchase to connect to my tv and will I be able to record from tv to IPOD?

This depends on what equipment you already have and how well they are adapted to your needs. It we assume your TV has an A/V output capabilities (composite/S-Video and stereo audio jacks), some sort of analog-to-digital converter, some sort of capture software. some sort of editing software, some sort of format conversion software, and all the proper cables needed to interconnect the hardware elements.
1) If your TV does not have line level video outputs, then you will need a combination tuner and A-D conversion capture card or box. There are a number of such devices on the market with price ranges dependent on level of quality and/or capabilities you demand.
2) If TV does have line level outputs, then you can buy a dedicated A-D converter or get away with using a digital camera which has a throughput capability. These firewire devices will convert your analog signals to DV compressed digital video which is easiest to edit. I would steer clear of any of the USB capture devices which output files in MPEG formats as these files only allow course editing and further limit quality/require multiple conversion in your work flow.
3) Next you need capture and/or capture/edit software. A free application like Vidi will capture the digitized video signal and save it to your computer, but if you already have something like iMovie, all the better. With iMovie you can both capture and edit your movies. At the very least, most people want to trim the beginning and end of their data clips. And, if you are capturing standard broadcasts, you may wish to cut out the ad commercials.
4) Next you need to make your files compatible for sync to your iPod. Once again, iMovie is a handy application to use since having edited your content, it can then be output directly in an iPod compatible format using QuickTime "Movie to iPod (320x24)" preset. If you choose to go another route, then there are a number of freeware, shareware, and commercial applications which will perform the conversion of your editied video file(s). NOTE: If you do go with an MPEG device and unedited/roughly edited media, you will need third party software to perform your conversion to an iPod compatable as QT and QT-like applications will not convert the audio.

Problem In Converting BDC recording to program

I have recorded ZMM01 using t-code MM01 to create material with accounting codes. Here i am able to create material with accounting codes. But when I am converting that into program there i am getting problem(not creating any material and not showing any error). So please guide me.

Have you tried executing your BDC program in debug mode with mode A? Also, are you trapping errors in BDCMSGCOLL structure?

Programming multiple smart cards with multiple smart card readers in a PC causes a PCSCException in a smart card that is in progress

Hi,
I develop a Java code using smartcardio API to program a smart card. My GUI allows to add at most 5 smart card readers that will wait for card present, then do authentication and program the smart card with an application, then wait for card removal. This is a separate thread running in a loop for each smart card reader added as programmer.
The problem occurs when a certain smart card is in progress and I inserted another smart card to another smart card reader. Both smart card reader halts and throw sun.security.smartcardio.PCSCException: Unknown error 0x8010002f.
I also observed that every time there is an attempt to insert/remove a smart card in the smart card reader that is connected to the USB port would cause the programming in progress to be interrupted and throw the PCSCException.
These are some exceptions I got during my testing:

at sun.security.smartcardio.PCSC.SCardTransmit(Native Method)
at sun.security.smartcardio.ChannelImpl.doTransmit(ChannelImpl.java:171)
java.lang.Exception: Loader Record Failed: 6E | 0 //Sometimes I got this return code SW1 0x6E SW2 0x00 which means an APDU with an invalid 'CLA' bytes was received. I had check the command before it was sent and it was correct.
Help me understand this issue. I think the CardTerminal.isCardPresent(), CardTerminal.waitForCardPresent(0), and CardTerminal.waitForCardAbsent(0) cause this issue that CardChannel.transmit(apduCommand) is interrupted or the smart card insertion/removal causes the CardChannel.transmit(apduCommand) is interrupted.

when you work with one smartcard reader only usually you address the slot -1 that means "the first found".
But to deal with multiple readers you have to use slots of course since one reader will be slot 0, next reader will be slot 1 and so on...
So a credential object will be identified on a system by a couple
<slot,alias>
After that, the way to address slots (I mean the syntax) depends on the classes you are using...

Here's how "Capture Recording" (a.k.a. "Retrospective Record" in other audio applications)
is supposed to work:
The song either is or isn't playing.
You play your instrument.
You liked what you did, even though you weren't recording.
You press the "Capture Recording" button.
Your software captured what you played, even though the song wasn't playing.
And that's why Retrospective Record was asked for, and implemented in the DAW's of the world.
But in Logic, if the song is not playing, and you play something you liked,
Capture Recording just puts every note onto Bar1, Beat1 of a new track.
And there's what you wanted to "capture", every note you played, sitting at Bar1, beat1, All at the same time. lol.
Now, I know that in this particular user group, there are many who love
to jump onto a fast response in defense of this application.
And that's ok, because I love this app also.
but the Capture Recording feature needs to be fixed.
Capture Recording (or "Retrospective Record" as Cubase calls it (they were first to implement it in 1995 btw))
works as described above in bold, it DOES make a very VERY big difference, believe it or not.

No, it has nothing to do with MIDI clock being enabled or not, it's the manner in which Logic's MIDI/Audio engine is implemented and can be traced way, way back. When Logic is not running, there is zero processing going on, this is part of Logic's intentional design and is one of the main reasons Logic is processor efficient, it also allows large instrument templates to be designed and loaded, if Logic's not running, no CPU is used. All other DAW's keep plugins partially active, you will always see CPU use. Early on when Mac's had limited graphics processing this was a big advantage, when Logic was stopped you had the full CPU to perform editing. This behavior was carried over as more powerful hardware was introduced.
The downside: Many of Logic's quirks can be traced to the fact that nothing is being processed when Logic is halted. The "System Overload" message, missed notes at the beginning of bar 1, not being able to play a song all the way through the first or second time it played. Say you have a region at bar 40 that uses a processor heavy instrument with a couple of Waves FX plugins... a second or two before bar 40 Logic starts to fill the FX and Instrument buffers with data as the plugins become active... "System Overload". I'm guessing Logic 10 will do what recent versions of Cubase has done, offer a preference that enables either type (active, inactive) processing.
If anyone wonders why some Cubase users get on Logic's case... it's pretty much payback as Logic users use to really slam Cubase as being unprofessional because it was pirated so much it had many, many users who were completely clueless musicians/producers.
The shoe is on the other foot now, a Mac is a dongle for Logic, while Apple would rather have your $199, they're not going to gripe at pirated versions as it will sell Mac hardware... and Apple makes their money with hardware, software is merely a support group for the hardware. As anyone on this forum can see, It's Logic collecting the clueless these days.

NiScope EX Multi Record vi program

Hi,
I have a question in niScope EX Multi Record.vi program. I was not explaining it well in my previous mail. That is why people can not answer my question. This time, I will explain clear.
Attached "abc" is my prgram with niScope EX Multi Record.vi prgram. This is my question. How come I can not get the waveform when I do the same action in the seond time? Here is how my prgram work. First, I press "reset" push button, the light will go off and press it again the light turn off. The prgram do nothing, just reset the value of the voltmeter and current meter. Second, I press the "enable" button, the voltmeter and current meter get reading since I have a subprgram under timeout in the event structure. Then, I press the "enable button" again to turn on the light. Third, I press the "bark button", my hardware will be shocked and output waveform, since I have a subprogram, niScope EX Multi Record.vi, I set the right parameter, I will get the "shock pulse waveform".
Everything looks good and working. Then I press the "bark" push button again to turn the light off. I want to do the same action the second time to see if the waveform of niScope EX Multi Record will generate again because normally I tried the same action the second time. the waveform will generate again. Here I am talking about I use the niScope EX Multi Record.vi prgram without anything and event structure and I did the same action as what I said in the above procedure. But, I did the same action in the second time in this "abc" vi program with niScope EX Multi Record. vi prgram, I could not get a new waveform, I don't understand why? could you please tell me what I did wrong? my niscope EX Multi Record.vi prgram is out of the event structure, what I see is like this prgram is alone just like the one I tried without event structure before. I am not sure if this single prgram mixed with event structure, it will be what? will it be different like I put two subprgrams in one block diagram even though I tried two subprgram put it together and it will work what it suppose to do. I am not very sure if ni scope EX Multi Record.vi prgram mixed with other prgrams with event struturem, what will happen? Will it be the same like two subprgram put it together? Could you please tell me exactly what if I put niScope EX multi record.vi with event structure including another program, what will happen? I would like to understand.

Hi Nyborn,
The changes of the graph color are controlled by the Waveform Graph property node on your block diagram. In the niScope EX Multi Record.vi example the Plot.Fill/PtColor value of the waveform graph property node is connected to a random generating number which changes the color on every execution. If you want to assign just one color, remove the random number vi and just wire a acii constant for the color you'd like. You can find listing of all acii color codes here.

Can we capture details of program being executed in foreground?

Hi Everyone,
I am facing an issue in a Y-TCode. This Y-TCode is scheduled to run multiple times daily, the requirement is that no user in the system should run the same TCode manually in the foreground while the scheduled job is running in the background. I know that if a user runs the TCode in background then we can capture the job details and prevent him from doing it. But I am not sure how to stop him if he runs the TCode in the foreground.
Can someone help me on this issue?

Thanks for your reply, I have already tried the lock mechanism but it is not working as desired and an OSS message is already open with SAP for that and they are working on it.
But in the meanwhile I was wondering if there's any other way to capture the online program execution details. My hunch is that it is not possible but if you or anyone has an idea do let me know.

Playing back Recorded TV Programs using Windows Media Player and only hearing Sound from Front Speakers

Hi All,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Service Pack 1 with Windows Media Player 11 installed.
When I click on one of my Recorded TV Programs to watch and hear, I can only hear the Sound coming from the Front Speakers.
When I right-click on the Program and open it up in Real Player Cloud. I can indeed watch the program and hear Clear Sound coming from all 5 Speakers plus the Subwoofer.
What setting do I change to use Windows Media Player and have sound coming from all 5 Speakers and the Subwoofer?

The Files in question were Recorded by Beyond TV to my Local Hard Drive.
When I open the recording in Real Player Cloud, installed on my computer, not streaming over the Internet, I hear it correctly played.
When I use Windows Media Player, nothing can be heard from the Rear Speakers.
Speakers and Hardware are working fine.

New iMac w iSight won't record with iMovie

I got a new iMac G5 w a built in iSight, but I can't record video with the camera. Every time I try to record with iMovie, it doesn't recognize the built in camera and it always comes up as "no camera attached." How do I record video?

This is the same topic as another thread started today. Quicktime Pro does record from the built-in iSight as does EchoFX's USBVision. Several people have submitted to Apple an iMovieHD feature request to enable direct capture from the built-in iSight. Maybe Apple will offer that in a future iMovie update.
