CAPTURE TIME ONLY GOES UP TO 5 MIN!

Hi, i use a Panasonic DVX100A and edit in Final Cut Pro 4.5. When I'm capturing it stops at the fifth minute, FCP crashes and so everything else to the point i have to restart the computer manually. The capture limit is set to 30 minutes, does anyone have an idea on what is going on and how can i solve it?

#35 - FCP 4.5 and QT 7.3, 7.4
Shane's Stock Answer #35 - FCP 4.5 and Quicktime 7.3 and 7.4
Final Cut Pro 4.5 is incompatible with Quicktime 7.3 and higher. The last version of the operating system that Apple recommends for FCP 4.5 is 10.3.9 (Panther) and version of QT is 6.5.2. People have had success in using the Mac OS 10.4 (up to 10.4.11) with FCP, and even later versions of Quicktime (7.1, 7.2)...although some people have reported issues. But QT 7.3 and 7.4 is incompatible with FCP 4.5.
To fix this you have two options.
1) The best option would be to back up your files and erase and install your operating system from scratch. This way you ensure that you have a nice, proper working system. Again, OSX 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 are the best versions for FCP 4.5, but you can go as high as OS 10.4.11 and QT 7.2.
2) Use Pacifist to remove QT 7.3 or 7.4, and install a previous QT version. The instructions for doing this can be found on the Digital Rebellion website. Several previous versions of the Quicktime Installers are still located on Apple's website. A full list can be found HERE.
Some versions of Quicktime cannot be downgraded if you are running certain OS versions. 10.4.11 and later cannot be downgraded to a QT version earlier than 7.3. To get back to 7.2, you have to downgrade the OS. And the only way to do that is an Archive and Install, or to erase and install.

i would like to set a capture time so it stops after 90 mins so if I am not there it stops recording is this possible?

Thanks. I had tried that, but was still having problems. Then I realized that I was using three addresses on both devices.  Once I changed it to only one email on one iPad and a different email on the other, it worked great. Your message encouraged me to dig deeper and think differently. It worked. Thanks again!

  • LR 1.4 Question about Group Edit Capture Time

Hey guys... working my way through...
Was wondering -- when I highlight a group of files -- and then go to the Metadata Menu and choose "Edit Capture Time" -- why doesn't it change the date of all the High-Ligghted Photos?
I am obviously doing something wrong... Can someone please tell me who to di it right?
    THANKS!!

It's a while since I used LR 1, but I think it was the same....to write time changes to RAW files, other than DNG's, you need to enable this in catalog settings. in metadata write changes into propitiatory RAW files. LR is very reluctant to write anything into propitiatory files (and rightly so), best to convert them to DNG's.
    actually - i'm kinda confused.
    all my images are DNG's.
All I want to do is take a group of photos I took in 2002 [that all have bad dates from different decades somehow] and correct a group of say 130 files at a time to a specific day from all the various days they are mistakenly showing in Capture Time.
But when I highlight a group of say 30 files and choose to EDIT CAPTURE TIME -- only 1 or maybe a couple of files change -- the rest stay.
iPhoto allowed me to Batch Change a group of photos from various dates to 1 single date -- but I am getting the impression LR 1.4 does not have the ability to do this.

  • Using time capsule for months but time machine only goes back to yesterday!

    Topic says it all.
I'm in a bind and I need something that might have been on my hard drive a month or so ago.
Anyway, I click time machine because that's the whole point of having a backup app, and to my suprise, the bar on the right only goes back to yesterday at 2am.
What the ****?? Is there some way of opening my time capsule bundle package file thing or what.
    Thanks
Running leopard, time capsule is 500gb and set to only take my pictures, music and a couple other folders.
    Thanks

Did anything change on your computer just before today? If you look at your Time Capsule's "Data" disk, how many "sparsebundle" files do you see?
If you see more than one (assuming you're only using it to back up one computer), Time Machine may have decided to start a new backup set. in that case you can probably access the old data if you click-and-hold (or control-click) on the Time Machine icon in the Dock and choose "Browse Other Time Machine disks".

  • Phone vibrates 5 times and goes black, only fully boots while plugged into USB at splash screen

I have an HTC Droid Incredible with stock firmware 2.2 and it will no longer boot properly. The phone is not rooted or altered in any way.
When the power button is pressed, the phone shows the HTC Incredible splash screen, vibrates 5 times, and the screen goes black and the LED light flashes green over and over until the battery is pulled out.
Strangely enough, if the phone is plugged into a PC via USB or a charger during that splash screen for a few seconds (at least 5), it DOES boot up to the OS and seemingly works fine, but the SD card and internal storage is listed as "unavailable".  I can also access the HBOOT menu by holding volume- while turning the phone on.
The phone then functions until the next time it needs to be rebooted, or if you attempt to plug it in via USB again (only when attached to a PC) and remove it, then it vibrates 5 times and goes black once again.  If you repeat the battery pull and USB plug-in process it works again.
I've been able to successfully return it to the factory setting, reflash the stock ROM via SD from the HBOOT menu and from a RUU from my PC, but it doesn't fix the issue. The SD card has been reformatted properly and error checked and can be accessed from a card reader... just not while it is in the phone.
Pretty weird issue that's driving me crazy.

This reply in that link is what I am suggesting should have been implemented in the Droid 4:
“Just adding my 2 cents.  Found this to be odd with my new phone.  Previous WM6.1 phone I would sync and charge overnight with my PC and let both 'sleep' when done.  WM6 must be closing the port when the USB power drops so not to deplete the battery.
Just one more quirk with the new device.”
There is no reason for current leakage into a sleeping computer because of keeping data lines open.  It should be easy enough to shut down the usb port when a voltage drop is detected in on the power pins.  In any case, hopefully my posting will at least alleviate some anxiety for someone down the line.  The procedure gets the phone back up and running in an expedient manner.  Thanks for your research.

  • Lightroom 5 will not sort images properly, either by file name or capture time.  How can I fix this issue?

I am using Lightroom 5 with OSX 10.9.2 and the sorting feature is not working properly.  When I try to sort my library by file name or capture time, it does not sort properly.  The order of images is mixed and stays that way, even after reboot.  The file information is correct, the sorting is the only issue.  The library is approximately 6,000 images and I am also using a plug in with the Publishing Service feature.  Any help on how to fix this issue without losing my editing work done on the library would be appreciated.  Thanks! Dan

Thanks! I'm trying to sort by capture time or file name, and neither sorts correctly.  file names 3450, 3451, etc. before files 0234, 0235, etc.  It makes no sense.  Same with capture time.  Times are accurate in meta data, but sorting is just wrong.  I'm using a ShootProof plug in that is only used for uploading files to the web. The issue is in the main library folder, so I'm not sure the plugin has anything to do with it.  Any sort I seem to choose: capture time ascending order, file name descending order, whatever, yields a different yet inaccurate sort.  The below sort is flagged, by file name ascending order.  This is the bottom of the list where it goes from file brigitte_terry_w6408... to brigitte_terry_film_0039... to brigitte_terry_w2825...  Regardless of the 'film' file, the w2825... files should be displayed above w6408.  Thanks for any help!

  • Edits overwriting jpeg capture time

Sometimes, but not always, when I edit a jpeg (it may be as simple as changing a keyword or rating), Lightroom will clobber the capture time and overwrite it with the current time. After this happens, the original capture time can't be found anywhere in the EXIF data, except in the GPS timestamp (it's always happened to me with iPhone images, but I don't edit any other jpegs regularly). Strangely, those images still sort in the correct spot when sorted by capture time, so the original timestamp must still be in there somewhere.
    Has anyone seen this before?

The only way I can think of troubleshooting that is to save the original .jpg before you import it, and then save a copy of the .jpg after the problem occurs.  Then we can compare the metadata of the two files to see what might be going wrong.

  • Editing Capture time

Ok Chaps... I am new to LR... but have recently found a load of old family photos -  dating back to late 1800's and am going to start scanning them to share with the family....I can change the capture time using LR... (well done for reading the manual) BUT... I am a bit disappointed that there doesn't appear to a utility in LR that re-indexes / organizes the photos into the appropriate year/month folder. I have found that the only way to do this is to export - delete and re-import
So there's the scenario.... here's the question (s)
Is there a util that can do this inside LR
    If not
do you guys know of any utils that I can use to change the capture time so that it imports directly into the appropriate folder...
    and another thing....
Any one seen duplicate year and months appear on the folder structure when importing photo's again a bit frustrating
    seeing things like
         2009                    10 (images)
         2009                  480

Steve, I've been through this with hundreds of our family photos, also dating back to the 1800's. If I know the exact date of a photo, then I set capture time accordingly.
What you are likely to find, however, is that you'll have a number of photos that you can barely date to the correct year, let alone a specific month or day. In those cases, setting a capture time and having a folder structure based on capture year is awkward at best.
So like John, I use a couple of folders  that are convenient only to my scanning & processing workflow. I then use a file naming convention that allows me to sort & view photos in what I believe to be the correct order, based on clues in the photos and other information. Examples are:
If I know the exact date of an image to be February 10, 1891, then the image filename is 18910210_nnnn, where 'nnnn' is any sequence number/letters/descriptor convenient at the time that I scan. In this case, I will also set the capture date for the photo. For all other examples below, the capture date is left blank.
If I know for certain that an image date is February 1891, but I don't know the day, then the filename is 18910200_nnnn.
If I know for certain that an image date is 1891, but I don't know the month and day, then the filename is 18910000_nnnn.
If I *think* an image dates to February 1891, then the filename is 18910200ca_nnnn, where 'ca' is common notation for "circa."
If I *think* an image dates only to 1891, then the filename is 18910000ca_nnnn.
If I have absolutely no idea as to the year of a photo, then I set the filename to 99990000ca_nnn. In this case, I fill in other metadata the best that I can with the hope of dating the photo later.
With the above convention, I can then view my photos in what I believe to be the correct order, in LR or Windows, with firm and circa dates intermingled with each other. This is very helpful, because when you see circa photos next to firmly dated photos, for a given subject, then you can refine the circa dates (and alter the filenames accordingly). The 9999 photos show up at the bottom of the list, so I can readily go to them for further research. Naturally, I enter a lot of other metadata (keywords, descriptions, locations) so I can search and order my photos in numerous other ways besides dates. As you learn more about LR, you'll find collections to be useful too.
I hope this helps, and good luck with the family archive. It's been a blast for me to this for my family, and to publish a book (Blurb) to so other members of our family can get a decent copy of the photos too.

  • Batch changes to capture time

I noticed today after much confusion that changes to the capture time of multiple images could only be made in the grid view. I was trying to change the capture time of a full folder of images, I was in Loupe view but with all of the images selected in the film strip. It kept changing the capture time on only one image at a time no matter how many images I selected in the film strip.
My question is this, is the requirement to be in grid view some thing that any one else has noticed? Is this deliberate? It caused me quite a lot of confusion until I figured out what was going on.

    Thanks for confirming that.
I have made bulk changes before and just never noticed that limitation. I have seen many people give tutorials or type instruction for that kind of thing too and it was never mentioned that they had to switch to grid view, its always just assumed that's where they are starting from, which I guess is why it took me so long to figure out what the problem was this time.

  • How to Change Capture YEAR with Edit Capture Time – Mac OS 10.6

    Hello,
I have very frustrating problem with Lightroom 2 (latest version). I have read that it is possible to fully edit the capture time and, crucially, year of a set of photos. Unfortunately, unlike all the FAQs I've read, I have no option to change the year:
    FAQ screenshot:
    My dialogue box:
There is no year option I can see, only month, day of month and time.
    Please help me.
    EGP.

I got the correct answer. Included here for posterity.
Well, it's not the file.  The file's showing the right settings on mine.
If you look in the Metadata panel, do the dates appear correct there?
And, really odd question of the day... if you go into system preferences > language and text > formats, have you customised any of the formats?  I just have a really vague recollection that it had an effect once upon a time.
    Yahaw!!! That's the answer!
I had a custom time set up on my computer. When I was on Leopard you had to edit the date formats to allow the clock that shows in the top right of the menu bar to use the format "weekday/dayofmonth/month/time". That must have been it
    Thanks a bunch!!

  • Capture time anomaly

I remember the talk of the capture time in LR bug but I'm pretty sure this is unrelated. I'm using LR 2.5 on Vista 32 bit.
If I hover over a particular jpg image in the filmstrip while in the Library module it shows the filename and a date/time of 26 Dec 2004, 1407:14. However, in the Metadata panel the Capture time is the same but the date is 6 March 2005. If I then click on the Edit Capture Time is already has the 26 December date there and if I click OK to accept this nothing changes.
It's an irritant rather than a show stopper and it appears to be the only sequence of shots (there are 7) where this occurs; I'd just like to know what's going on - can anyone throw light into my darkness?

LR is using the EXIF 'Date Time Original' field to sort by Capture Time .
LR automatically displays Date Time Original minus 1 hour from any Date within a period of Daylight Saving Time.
It does not change the EXIF metadata within the original file.
However (and here is the catch...), if you use the Edit Capture Time function it changes the capture time NOT in relation to the Date Time Original value but to the LR (DTO-1) value.
Thats OK you might think but unlike other metadata changes you make in LR this one gets written straight back to the original image file!
But LR has a solution - 'Revert Capture Time to Original' - or does it...?
After Reverting the Capture Time to Original, I discovered that the EXIF Date Time Original value in the image file was now shifted by minus 1 hour.
Scary bit is I tried this first with JPG and DNG files but then with a Canon CR2 RAW file and got the same result. Just to be certain I looked at the file with a Hex editor and sure enough LR had changed the Date Time Original value by minus 1 hour in the CR2 file without warning.
I don't know about the rest of you but I do not like this 'feature' at all!!!

  • MagSafe plugged in, orange charge led, time counter going down

I've been plugged into 110v AC in my RV. MagSafe is plugged in, orange charge LED is "on" and the icon shows the lightning (charging symbol), BUT the time counter going down and down, and not in real time, more like football min's. We are running a bunch of other things like heater, another G4 and lights. Could this just be not enough coming through the single extension cord (NOT 30amp)?

Yes Pink that is the case the LED lights stay yellow for charging and the white one for plugged in. When i turn it on now the screen doesn't show up and it turns off. And it does not turn on with the AC adapter only. I tried a new one at a local store but no luck with that either.
I had the latest bios update before the most recent one:

sadly i can't update it if it won't turn on :(
I took it to the Toshiba Center today they said its a hardware issue. its only been a month and a few days /sigh im so bummed out atm i hope the motherboard won't have to be replaced.

  • TS1398 Just got the mini, specifically to get jobs on a certain website. Jobs change all the time. When I go to website, it has not updated from the first time I logged in on the mini. It works on my laptop just fine. HELP!

My sons just bought me an ipad mini especially so that I could check a certain website on which I sign up for jobs throughout the day.  The website is updated constantly throughout the day with new jobs and the status of the jobs I already have accepted and worked on. (It shows the percentage of the job that has been done.)  It worked fine only the first time I logged on with the mini.  Since then (yesterday,) when I check the website, it lets me log in, but I only see the same exact information that was there the first time I went to the website using the mini.  It seems to be 'frozen' on that particular first look.  It doesn't update at all.
I know it is not updating because I have also been checking with my notebook computer and with the notebook, the website is up to date.
    Maybe its Safari?
I had the same problem when I used a friend's iPad.
I wonder if there is a setting or something that I could change to allow the website to update to the time I check it.
If not, then the ipad mini is a terrible disappointment and I would like to return it.
If you can help me, I would be extremely grateful.
    Thanks in advance...

  • Mobile Accounts: Sync new accounts first time only.

When a user logs into a computer for the first time it is set to create a mobile account, however we don't use home directory syncing because the typical size of our 200 users' home directories is over 100Gb which makes syncing home directories not viable.
It would be very handy, though, to have it sync the first time only at login so that our user directory template is automatically copied over which will save a lot of time setting up new users.
Accoring to Apple's User Management v10.5 documentation on page 203:
+"To initially sync local and network homes so that the network home folder replaces the local home folder, choose “Create home with default sync settings."+
(This refers to Workgroup Manger -> Preferences -> the Mobility pane -> Account Creation -> Creation tab)
After testing, though, it is quite clear that this does not work - at least on my setup. I can get it to work by going to the Rules tab in the Mobility pane and ticking the sync at login and logout, but this syncs every time on both login and logout, which is not what I want to achieve.
    Any ideas?

I also mentioned, that some Safari-Extensions I installed on the iMac are missing now on my iMac-Profile. I also mentioned, that some settings for 1Password are reset to default values.
