Capture window, Viewer window, better quality then Canvas, why?

Hi there!
Both my capture window and viewer window show the recorded footage in a better quality then in my Canvas once I play it up in the timeline, was wondering why this is, is it simply because it's at 100% of it's size?
I checked the Sequence Settings, they seemed right at DV PAL (I recorded in HDV here in Europe) with quality set to 100%.
Also, by better quality I mean that the footage is brighter, with better sharpness and normal color, on my canvas the lighting is redder, everything is darker and the footage is fuzzier
thanks!

Double click on a suspect clip, it will appear in the viewer...
(a) filters tab - are there any video filters?
(b) motion tab - is scale set to 100% and zeroes everywhere else?
Or simpler: does your clip when on the timeline have a grey bar over it (indicating it needs no render)? If not, what colour is the bar over it?

  • FCP 7 lose quality in Canvas, WHY?

I am working within fcp 7 and for some reason all my footage is losing its quality once i drop it into the timeline and it shows up on the canvas, i have changed everything in settings, pref, etc and still no results. The initial footage was avi so i converted it to mov and now even jpegs come up looking terrible. Someone please help me.
if you could email me at [email protected] or respond to this post i would really appreciate it.
    Thanks

I imported the Avi file right into fcp with no issue, i also converted it to a MOV file and and reimported still the same problem. The clip plays fine on my desktop as well as in the viewer but once in the canvas the clip losses all of its quality. Data Rate 33.6 K/sec pixel aspect square 16 fps.
Thank you for helping me out i really appreciate it

  • IMovie 09 export better quality then FCP 6

whats with that i put a few clips in the new imovie and it looked awesome then did the same thing with fcp and it looked crappy is there an exporting setting or something

Before you import, export or anything else, do this.
Go to the menu bar: *Final Cut Pro* > Easy Setup > DV/DVC Pro NTSC (if relevant, choose the Anamorphic version of this setting) > OK.
Sequence > Settings > Load Sequence Preset > OK.
Save the project as... Import your video. Edit. Save your project.
File > Export > QuickTime Movie > Current Settings > Self Contained.
Before you view the result in QuickTime Player:
*QuickTime Player* > Preferences > General. Activate the check boxes for "Always use high quality setting where available" and "Enable Final Cut Pro color compatibility"

  • HDD vs. HDV capturing.  What produces better quality

I currently shoot for content in SD on mini DV tapes. I want to upgrade to a camera with either a 3 ccd or ? I have read alot about what is available but i am very confussed as to what format or camera I should purchase. I want to stay in the affordable range ($900 to $1,500) but want to know if capture to a HDD or should I continue to capture on Mini DV? Any help would be appreciated.

HDD stores the data on a Hard Drive instead of tape BUT it does not record in the DV format.
Instead it uses a version of MPEG which is not quite as good quality as it is compressed many times more.
However, the main problem is that FCE/FCP can't use MPEG natively so you have to find some other expensive or time consuming way of converting your footage before you can edit it.

  • How to make my log and capture window bigger

Ok, at first my log and capture window was fine, then after closing it and reopening one time, it got smaller. I do not know how I made it smaller. Are there key combos that can help me make it bigger once again?

I believe it's based on the size of your CANVAS window. Make that bigger and you'll get a bigger Log and Capture window.
    Good luck,

Pl give me solution if any body knows

    My Dear Friend,
For all the canvases, you will have to define the Window property. Since you didn't define the window property for your Login_canvas, you r getting the problem. You must launch the properties window for the canvas and set the window property for the canvas, then you will not get the problem again.

First problem: You're fine. The hotter it gets, the more the fans spin up. The computer is designed so that at max load, at max fan speed, it won't overheat (unless it's obstructed by something, e.g. sitting on your bed swallowed by a comforter). It's not the best thing to keep it that toasty for days at a time, but a couple hours at a time shouldn't be a problem.
Second problem: If something in the trash won't delete, just use Secure Empty Trash and it should be fine. Since .torrent files are quite small, it should only take a couple seconds.

  • I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • How to edit JVC/Panasonic/Canon .mod video in Windows Movie Maker then upload to YouTube for sharing

    Quick View:
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Part 3: How to upload your video to YouTube
    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?
    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?
    3. What file types are supported by YouTube?
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
    Step 1: Load files
First copy the MOD file from your video camera to your hard drive, then download, install and run MOD Converter, click the "Add Files" button to browse your computer hard disc and load the MOD/TOD video files you want to convert to the program.
    Step 2: Output Setting
In the bottom of the main interface, select an output format supported by Windows Movie Maker for each video file and specify a directory on your computer to save the output files.
    Step 3: Start convert
Click "Start" button on right bottom of the main interface, you are allowed to start conversion.
Step 4: Import converted video to Windows Movie Maker
Click on "File". Then click on "Import". A window will appear. In the window, navigate to the video clip you converted just now. Then double click on the file. You'll see the icon for the file in your Windows Movie Maker "Collections".
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Step 1: Add transitions and special effects
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click View video transitions.
Preview transitions by double-clicking them and watching the Preview Monitor. Once you've found a transition you like, drag it from the Video Transitions pane, under Edit Movie pane to the box between two of your clips. This inserts the transition between the two clips.
Step 2: Add titles and credits
If you want to add a title before, after, or on top of a clip, click the clip on the storyboard or timeline.
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click Make titles or credits.
    Step 3: Add Music
In the Movie Tasks pane in Movie Maker, under Capture Video, click Import audio or music.
In the Import File dialog box, click the name of the song you want to use in the background. Then click Import. This adds your song to your collection but does not add it to your video. Drag the song from the collection to the video clip where you want the music to start playing.
    Step 4: Add narration
If you have a desktop computer, connect a microphone. Microphones are available from most electronics stores. If you have a portable computer, you can use the built-in microphone. However, you will get a better-quality recording if you connect an external microphone. In Movie Maker, click the Tools menu, and then click Narrate Timeline. On the timeline, click the clip you want to narrate. You can narrate clips one at a time, or you can narrate the entire movie all at once. If you narrate individual clips, you can rearrange them later and keep your narration synchronized. If the narration is too loud or too soft in comparison to the movie, right-click the narration on your timeline, and then click Volume.
Step 5: To save your movie to your computer
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Finish Movie, click Save to my computer.
The Save Movie Wizard appears. On the Save Movie File page, type a name for your movie. You can also choose a folder to save it in by clicking the Browse button, but My Videos (the default) is usually the best place to save your movie. Then click Next. On the Movie Setting page, click Next to accept the default setting of Best quality for playback on my computer.
Movie Maker saves your movie, which might take several minutes. On the Completing the Save Movie Wizard page, click Finish. If Play movie when I click Finish was selected (it is selected by default), the movie will automatically play in Windows Media Player. Now you can watch your videos anytime by opening your My Videos folder and double-clicking your movie.
Part 3: How to upload my video to YouTube
A video file should meet the following requirements so that it can be uploaded to YouTube site.
    1. In an acceptable format: WMV, MPEG4, MOV, AVI and MPEG.
    2. Video length is shorter 10 minutes.
    3. File size is smaller than 1GB.
Step 1: Sign up a YouTube account or Gmail account, then click the Upload button on any YouTube web page. See the figure below:
Step 2: Type in the information of your video file, including Title, Description, Category and tags. To increase the chances that your video can be easily found, you should put as much information as possible.
Step 3: Set this video to be public or private.
Step 4: Click the "Upload a video" button. When you see the next window, click the "Browse" button to select the video file you want to upload. Then click the "Upload Video" button to upload it. After the upload is finished, you will see the completion page. See the figure below:
Step 5: Click "My Videos" and you will see the video.
    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?
MOD is the video file type used on many digital camcorders, such as the JVC Everio, the Canon FS100 and the Panasonic D-Snap SD-card camcorders. Accompanying the MOD video file, there exists MOI file that stands for the index file for MOD.
    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?
You can import files with the following file name extensions into Windows Movie Maker to use in your project:
Video files: .avi, .wmv, .mpeg, .mpg., .asf, m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, , .mpv2, and .wm.

  • No Capture window

I have my Canon HV20 connected properly, but when I click on Capture on FCE 4.0, I am simply asked to name the file but I don't see the Capture window that is supposed to open, as all the tutorials show, including on this Adobe site and Lynda. I therefore can't pilot the camera from FCE and capture from my HD tape.
I must add that I have chosen HD in Easy Setup and Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50, as I am in France and presumably recording in PAL.
If I name the file as asked to, a capture does seem to start, but in a simple window that offers no interface to pilot the tape or create an entry point, etc. The capture lasts only a few seconds, and then I get an odd message saying "Encountered end of tape"... when I am clearly not at the end of the tape.
Please help! I saw somewhere that people capture in iMovie and then import the files in FCE, but I can't imagine that this is the only solution...

OK, I follow the instructions, but I'm unable to capture more than 10 seconds or so. And that's only when I start playing the video on the camcorder before I click on 'Capture' in FCE. Then, very quickly, I get this same message: "encountered end of tape", but it's not the end of the tape, far from it. What could be triggering that 'end'? I do capture 10 seconds or so, using this procedure, but that's clearly not enough...
So I tried something else: I decided not to start the playback on the camcorder and to let FCE manage that. So I clicked 'Capture' in the FCE File menu, and then was prompted to name the capture, and then I saw the camcorder start it's playback, but NO view of what is being captured shown in FCE, only a black window, with this at the bottom: "CUEING TAPE, press esc. to stop". Meanwhile, the video is playing on fine on the camcorder screen. At the end of the tape, close to 60 minutes later, nothing has been captured whatsoever. No trace of the file that I had named after clicking on 'Capture'. No capture at all, in effect.
So this is where I stand and I do hope you can help. Very grateful in advance.

  • PROBLEMS SETTING MASTER GAIN IN CAPTURE WINDOW

I am having problems capturing audio at optimum levels.
In other words my audio levels in my log and capture window
do not match the output of my tape (bars and tone).
    To be more specific:
I am capturing from a Sony Beta deck (BetaCam SP).
The tape has Bars and Tone. I am running the audio signal through
my Mackie CR1604 audio mixer in order to control levels going into FCP.
The signal goes out from the 1604 into my AjA IO then out of AjA IO into
my MacG5 via the Fire Wire connection.
I have the Mackie levels set at 0 (zero unity gain) just below the
point of clipping using the tone from the Beta Tape.
My first thought was to boost the input in FCP using the Master Gain
setting in the log and capture / clip settings tab.
My problem was that the meters in my capture window (clip settings tab)
were greyed out. Well I found a way to access them by changing
my settingsby way of the following path:
Audio Video Settings / Capture Presets / Preset Editor. In the Preset Editor
I changed the QuickTime Audio settings device from Pro IO (AjA Io) to
Built-In audio. This allows access to the Master Gain slider in the log and
    capture window.
No good...I can not get the audio levels in the capture window to match
the levels on my Mackie 1604. They should match.
(they are way too low and the Master Gain slider is maxed out)
    Please help!!!!!
Michael Kraus / mak design co.

I need the Mackie 1604 mixer to boost or lower audio levels.
Lets say I have a Beta tape (or any tape/media) with bars and tone set to Zero db.
Thats great BUT what if the videographer had some areas in the tape
where levels were too high / hot or too low. The Mackie allows me to
    boost or lower levels.
As for the headache of re-digitize/ re-capture....I see your point but it is usually
not a big problem. Especially since most of my tapes have tone at the head
of the tape set at zero db for me to "calibrate" to. The audio on the remainder
of the tape does not surpass zero db most of the the time (in a perfect world).
There are some times where the world is not so perfect and I need to
    adjust levels.
My problem is that the levels out of the Mackie output and the levels
of the FCP / AjA IO input are different enough for there to be some concern.
I am in a sense doing what you are doing on the deck using the Mackie.
This is the way I always went about things when I ran my Avid video editor
and never had a problem. I am certain there are many people using the same
    approach.
The bottom line is there is some kind of drop off in levels going into FCP via
    the AjA IO.
    I appreciate your input...Thank you!
Let me know if you have any other ideas.

  • Resizing capture window

I want to capture an application window. First problem is that a dialog window is open and active, so Captivate wants to capture that dialog window. The red capture window/box however is much to big for that dialog window. I can move the red capture window to try to capture te application window instead of the open dialog window. It seems impossible however to resize the red capture window. Did I overlook something?

Did you try to choose the option 'Screen Area' in the Record dialog box (instead of Application Window), then choose Custom Size. You will get the red recording box, but it will have handles on the corners and the sides, so you can resize if necessary. Beware: in the right to you will see the dimensions. You will have to watch those dimensions. What is the screen resolution you will have to publish to? Will you include a playbar and/or TOC? Because those will take up some screen space in the published SWF. The recording box (after resizing) should ideally have the wanted size (in pixels). It is possible to rescale the project afterwards, but that results often in decrease of quality. Just a tip: try to have at least the same width/height ratio as you will have to publish to.
If you choose Custom Size, with the option 'Application' and 'Snap Recording Rectangle to Custom Size' you will also have those handles on the red recording box, but changing the size of the box will then result in changing the size of th Application Window, and I believe you will not want that situation?

From your point of view and the framing of your question, Apple does indeed support WIndows better than Mac for the limited issue of iCloud.

...YET, Leopard and Snow Leopard are NOT iCloud compatible. How can that be justified? Obviously, Apple can make iCloud available to Snow Leopard, but disdains us...
Historically speaking, Apple has rarely gone backwards in its OS development.  Once they have released a new OS with new technology, I can only think of one example of when they backtracked:  They released TrueType technology in System 7 and then released System 6.0.8, which included TrueType technology for continuing System 6 users.
So it is part of their culture to move forward and not backwards.  Other examples:
    •  Inclusion of the then novel SONY 3.5" disk drive in its release of the first Macintosh (and not the industry standard 5.25" drive); after its use in the Lisa and adoption for the Apple II series of computers.
    •  Elimination of the floppy drive completely in the release of the first iMac.
    •  Use of then novel AAC audio compression as "state of the art" compression for the iPod release in 2001 instead of the outdated mp3 standard.
    •  Refusal to allow use of FLASH in iPod Touch/iPhone/iPads.
How could they justify these decisions?  The marketplace justified them for Apple!
So, yes, they could release 10.6.9 with iCloud support.  But why now, if not then?
