Capture XML data payload into database table (Oracle EBS R12)

Hi All,
We have a XML Publisher report which generates output in PDF format. We want to capture the XML data payload generated by this report and put it into a DB table once the PDF is generated.
This report is generated through Oracle EBS R12 and XML Payload is stored by oracle by default in $APPLCSF/out directory.
Any pointers would be helpful
br

Couple of options, this one is probably the easiest without knowing other requirements (e.g., do you have to store the output as XML, or do you just the data available so you can output in XML later?).
Capture the SQL statement that generates the output in the first place. If you have that statement, you can insert into some table using the select statement. Once you have the report data (and you can tag that particular set of data with a job ID, timestamp, whatever, in case you need to store it and distinguish it from other reports down the road), you can generate XML output using the PL/SQL built-in DBMS_XMLGEN.
Is that what you are looking for?

• How to upload data into form of Oracle EBS R12 using ATS ver 9.0

Hi experts,
Could you please guide me how to upload data into form on Oracle EBS R12 using Oracle Application Testing Suite verson 9.(The simpliest way)
For example: I need to create user account on Oracle EBS. Normally, I use Dataloader to upload the data, however it just can upload one by one record, cannot upload multi record at same time. Moreover if the performance of server is low, so I will get the issue when using dataloader.
Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Hieu

Hi you can create Virtual users to enter data. Note than you have to name the objects accordingly.
For Example default recording provided by Open script is ObjectNAME_(Index No of the object).
when you record one iteration the name of any object would be ObjectNAME_(0)
You can then create virtual users so the index will increment as the total number of Virtual users increases. Also you have to handle which row of your test data would get mapped to which Virtual user in the script run session.
Thanks

• XML data put into database

I am new to oracle and new to xml... so if anyone has some suggestions on this topic I would appreciate it...
we are looking at getting data from multiple locations and multiple databases and was looking at a way to uniformly add this to the database... I was exploring the XSU utility, but I had a few questions...
We have quite a few tables that will need to be updated with data (around 100). Will we need an xml file for each table? is there a way to have an xml file so that the insert, update, and delete routines can be included in one file, or will this have to be three files... so potentially we would have 300 files to update the database?
Thanks for your time and input... let me know if you need more information.

Brian,
A 100 tables would mean 100 XML-documents.
But, if source and destination table definitions differ (e.g. in column names), you will need a transformation of the XML into the (canonical) format of the destination table.
So you may have to define multiple xslt stylesheets per table for these transformations.
And something else you may need to consider:
processing a few large XML-documents takes far more time than processing many small XML-documents. Advice: keep the XML-documents small.

• Fetch XML data stored in database table column dynamically

Hi All,
I am working as a SQL guy but never worked on XML in SQlbefore.
During some project work , we need to fetch value from xml stored in database column.
Problem is rowsof xml column arebit different and have different values.
Could anybody help me to build something dynamic to fetch all values from each row .

Please post a concise and complete example. Include table DDL and sample data INSERT statements.
Cause the solution depends on your actual structure. Otherwise take a look at the
nodes() method.

• Mapping XML data to relational database tables

I'm writing an application that has two parts: the client part generates XML documents and sends them across the network to a server part, which parses the XML, maps the XML to various RDBMS tables and stores the data in the RDBMS.
I've got everything working using SAX, but now any change I make to the XML schema and/or the RDBMS table structures in the future will mean some serious code changes.
Has anyone worked with this scenario and developed a better method of handling this mapping? All the previous efforts in this area seem to be RDBMS to XML, which is of no use to me.
If you had to do this this, how would you approach it? I'm using XML for ease of reading, as the client has code to allow for documents to be written to the disk if no connection to the server is available, and the server does the same if no database connection is available.
Thanks in advance ...
cheers,
mark

OK, to reply to my own posting for future reference, I've found an open source project called Osage at http://sourceforge.net that does what I need. I'm looking at it now and can't say if it's everything I want, but it seems likely to fit the bil.

• When / why use XML to store data instead of database table ?

Hi All,
I still not use XML much in applications and don't know much about its utilization.
I read here and there about storing data as XML instead of into database tables.
- could any body please tell me when / why use XML to store data instead of database table ?
e.g : store inventory per warehouse in XML format. ?
- What is the other cases or reasons of extracting database records into XML or vice versa ?
- is there any good pdf on this ?
Thank you for your help,
xtanto

It depends entirely what you want to accomplish with the 'XML in the database'. There are basically 3 independent methods: As CLOB, as XMLType views or as native XMLType 'columns'
Each method has advantages and disadvantages, especially in the performance vs purpose tradeoff.
The Oracled Press book "Oracle Database 10g XML & SQL Design, Build, & Manage XML Applications in Java, C, C++, & PL/SQL" is highly recommended for anyone interested in Oracle and XML. http://books.mcgraw-hill.com/getbook.php?isbn=0072229527&template=oraclepress

Hi ,
1.)You must have to create a EO based on custom table and then VO based on this EO eventually to save the values in DB
2.) the row.setNewRowState(Row.STATUS_INITIALIZED); is used to set the the status of row as inialized ,this is must required.
3.) When u will create the VO based on EO the viewattributes will be created in VO which will be assigned to the fields to take care the db handling .
You must go thtough the lab excercise shipped with you Jdeveloper ,there is a example of Create Employee page ,that will solve your number of doubts.
Thanks

• How to insert large xml data into database tables.

Hi all,
iam new to xml. i want to insert data in xml file to my database tables.but the xml file size is very large. performance is also one of the issue. can anybody please tell me the procedure to take xml file from the server and insert into my database tables.
Thanks in advance

Unfortunately posting very generic questions like this in the forum tends not to be very productive for you, me or the other people who read the forum. It really helps everyone if you take a little time to review existing posts and their answers before starting new threads which replicate subjects that have already been discussed extensively in previous threads. This allows you to ask more sensible questions (eg, I'm using this approach and encountering this problem) rather than extremely generic questions that you can answer yourself by spending a little time reviewing existings posts or using the forum's search feature.
Also in future your might want to try being a little more specific before posting questions
Eg Define "very large". I know of customers who thing very large is 100K, and customers who think 4G is medium. I cannot tell from your post what size your files are.
What is the content of the file. Is it going to be loaded into a single record, or a a single table, or will it need to be loaded into multiple records in a single table or multiple records in multiple tables ?
Do you really need to load the data into exsiting relational tables or could your application work with relational views of the XML Content.
Finally which release of the database are you working with.
Define performance. Is it reasonable to expect to process this kind of document on this machine (Make, memory, #number of CPUs, CPU Speed, number of discs) in this period of time.
WRT to your original question. If you take a few minutes to search this forum you will find a very large number of threads with very similar titles to yours. These theads document a number of different approaches that can be used to solve this problem.
I suggest you start by looking for threads that cover topics like DBMS_XMLSTORE, XMLTable(), Relational Views of XML content, loading XML content in relational tables.

• Inserting data into multiple tables(Oracle Version 9.2.0.6)

Hi,
we are going to receive the following XML file from one of our vendor. We need to parse the file and then save the data to multiple database tables (around 3).
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<datafeed xmlns:xsi="ht tp://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="DailyFeed.xsd" deliverydate="2007-02-14T00:00:00" vendorid="4">

Now the operation to be done on the table depends on the mode attribute. Further, there are some basic validations need to be done using count attribute. Here the item tag, content tag & link tag are recurring elements.
The problem is I am not able to find the correct attributes like mode, feed_id, lang through SQL query(they are getting duplicated) though I was able to find the deliverydate & vendorid attribute as they are non-repeatitive. Here are the scripts :
create table tbl_xml_rawdata (xml_content xmltype);
create directory xmldir as 'c:\xml';
--put the above xml file in this directory and name it testfile.xml
Declare
l_bfile BFILE;
l_clob CLOB;
BEGIN
l_bfile := BFileName('XMLDIR', 'testfile.xml');
dbms_lob.createtemporary(l_clob, cache=>FALSE);
dbms_lob.open(l_bfile, dbms_lob.lob_readonly);
dbms_lob.loadFromFile(dest_lob => l_clob,
src_lob => l_bfile,
amount => dbms_lob.getLength(l_bfile));
dbms_lob.close(l_bfile);
insert into test_xml_rawdata values(xmltype.createxml(l_clob));
commit;
end;
My query is:
select extractvalue(value(b),'/datafeed/@deliverydate') ddate, extractvalue(value(b),'/datafeed/@vendorid') vendorid,
extractvalue( value( c ), '//@feed_id') feed_id,
extractvalue( value( a ), '//@empbased') empbased,
extractvalue( value( a ), '//emp') emp,
extractvalue( value( a ), '//value') value,
extractvalue( value( a ), '//unit') unit,
extractvalue( value( a ), '//date') ddate1,
extract( value( a ), '//links/link/url') url,
extract( value( a ), '//links/link/description') description
from tbl_xml_rawdata t,
table(xmlsequence(extract(t.xml_content,'/datafeed/items/item/content'))) a,
table(xmlsequence(extract(t.xml_content,'/'))) b ,
table(xmlsequence(extract(t.xml_content,'/datafeed/items/item'))) c;
If the above query is run, the feed_id is cartesian joined with other data ,which is wrong.
How should I go with this so that I can have 1 relational record with respect to each element & sub-elements.
Also, if this is not doable in SQL, can someone direct me to some plsql example to do this. I read that dbms_xmldom & dbms_xmlparser can be used to travel through XML doc but I don't know how to use them.
Any help please ??

I'm still getting the same error while installing Oracle Patch set 9.2.0.6. I downloaded the patchset 2 weeks back.
Pls help where download the correct version ?

• Loading XML files into Database table

Loading XML files into Database table
Hi I have some XML files say 100 files in a virtual directory created using "Create or replace directory command" and those files need to be loaded into a table having a column of XMLTYPE. 1)How to load that using Oracle provided procedures/packages

Check out the Oracle XDB Developer's Guide, Chapter 3. There is an example of using BFileName function to load the xml files from a directory object created using create or replace directory. It works really well.

The Oracle documentation has a good overview of the options available
Generating XML Data from the Database
Without knowing your version, I just picked 11.2, so you made need to look for that chapter in the documentation for your version to find applicable information.
You can also find some information in XML DB FAQ

• Upload .txt file into Database Table

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could please point me in the right direction. I've been looking around the forum but can't find anything to help me achieve the following.
I would like to be able to upload a .txt file using a webpage. Then store the information inside this file into database tables.
eg. contents of mytextfile.txt:
richard
10 anywhere street, anytown, somewhere
111 222 333 444
joe
9 somestreet, elsewhere
999 888 777 666
peter
214 nearby lane, overhere
555 555 555 555
I would like to insert this data into a table.
eg. table name = CONTACTS
userid = primary key (using sequence)
username = (line 1 - richard, joe, peter)
address = (line 2)
phone_no = (line 3)
As you can see the records will appear 1 at a time and will have a blank line between records. Is there anyway for me to upload a file like this and have it placed into tables?
I have seen http://otn.oracle.com/products/database/htmldb/howtos/howto_file_upload.html but this seems to be for uploading a whole file and downloading the same file, rather than extracting data from the file.
I hope I have managed to explain my problem.
Many thanks,
Richard.

Richard,
HTML DB allows you to upload CSV files via the Data Workshop. That data would then be parsed and inserted into a specific table. Alternatively, if you have your data in an Excel spreadsheet, and it is less than 32k, you can copy & paste the data directly into HTML DB's Data Workshop, which will then parse and import it into the Oracle database.
The one obstacle you may have to overcome is converting your data from the format you outlined to CSV format. Specifically, you would have to make this:
richard

• How can I make an easy *.CSV file to load into database table

Hi All,
I have a huge excel sheet having columns item#, description and qty. The description column sometimes maybe one word name, two word name separated with space or may be , spearated name. I want to write and PL/SQl code which will read this file and load it into database table. Now the *.CSV file is either comma delimited or tab text delmited which both do not solve my issue. Is there any better solution with anyone which can prevent the manual editing to the *.CSV file and I can easily load it to table.
Your help is appreciated,
Thanks
Zahir

SQL*Loader is probably the fastest method, but since you specifically asked for a PL/SQL method:

• How to input data in a database table without knowing in advance table and column configurations

Hi,
I have a problem using LabVIEW for input data (manually) in a SQL database. I have about 40 tables in the database, each of them is related to a specific engine component. I need to create a user interface (maybe visualizing the table with a table control) where the users can insert data in the database table fields. Could someone give me some suggestion on how to do it?
Using the DB tools insert data.vi I need to know in advance the column configuration of the table, but in my database each table has its own structure! So do I have to create 40 different masks, one for every different table?
Thanks in advance.
Michela

I have not actually used the LV SQL Toolkit, but I will try and offer high level ideas :-)
when you have retrieved the construction data for a table, you should be able to use array and cluster indexing to aquire the names of the fieds, enough to create a labelled table on the LV Front panel.
After completing a new entry you can INSERT the entry into the database using the same data.
Is the SQL toolkit an additional purchase, or included in newer versions as standard? If you post a sample of the cluster/array that you retrieve, I could give you a sample VI to give you some pointers in creating the User Interface table
