  • Can't capture video using iSight camera in QuickTime 7.4 (92)

OK, I see that there are plenty of "bugs" with Quicktime Version 7.4 (92), but I don't see the problem I am having, posted anywhere. Here goes...
I cannot capture video using my [Firewire] iSight camera on my CoreDuo MacMini. I definitely used to be able to do this. When I go to File>New Movie Recording, I get a back/blank Movie Recording window and that's it. I click on the Red/Record button and nothing happens. The timer doesn't even advance. Just sits there. When I try to stop the recording, I get the following message:
*"Recording failed because no data was received.*
*Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing."*
I can still capture audio, although had some problems and had to "downgrade" to version 7.3.x and subsequently reinstalled 7.4. Now the audio works but still no video.
    A few things:
    1. YES, the iSight camera works - I can use it in iMovie, iChat, Photobooth, etc. - for both video and audio.
    2. As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video.
    3. I re-installed Version 7.4 and the audio problems cleared up, but again, still unable to capture video.
    3. All software updates installed.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

See QuickTimeKirk’s posting in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1357579&tstart=0
    Try the following:
    Trash com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    It's located in your account:
    HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
Delete the file, restart (a new .plist will be created) and quicktime hopefully will work again w/o doing an Archive & Install.
+If you want to do an A&I:+
Do an archive and install of your OS from the OS disc. Stop at the QT upgrade you need.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270 Scroll down to "Archive and Install”
IMPORTANT: Maker sure you select "preserve user preferences and data" when you performed the A&I?
    Good luck!

  • Capturing video using usb webcam in QTPRO

I have a duo core mac mini and QTPRO 7. I am preparing a lecture for teachers to record their demonstrations and lectures and then play them back to students. I am trying to use QTPRO and usb webcam to keep cost down for teachers. I have installed Maccam 8.8 and can recognize and choose usb camera in QTPro. I can even change compression and setting and capture video and audio. The problem comes when I stop the recording in QTPro. The newly created movie opens and then....the spinning ball of death starts to spin and never quits. I try to force quit QT (which isn't responding) but it won't quit. I have to shut down my mini and restart. At which point the movie created can be openned and played and everything is fine, until I try to capture another movie. It works but this is combersome. This is really inconsiderate of Mac, to make it so you can only use firewire cameras, of which I think only the isight is left. Used to be you could plug almost anything into a Mac and it worked. That was something that Made them great. Now well, lets limit the buyers. This problem also occurs on my MacBook Pro.
duo core mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you can afford it, use an iSight camera ( much better quality than most webcams, and AF as well) and Quicktime Broadcaster ( free) to record the video.
If you search you will find a few articles on how to use QTB to record to your HDD. Very good quality in good light.

Adobe Premiere CC 2014, regularly licensed (Mac Pro early 2008, Mac OSX 10.9.5, Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB).
    Hi guys,
since the CC2014 version of Premiere has been released (on Creative Cloud) I'm experiencing - really often - the MEDIA PENDING (yellow background) issue... even if the clip can be found right clicking and selecting "reveal in finder" or "reveal in project", in the timeline the clip can't be played. Not to mention the many many problems the app is causing stopping working suddenly and obligating me to restart the system to have it regularly working again (usually it stops reproducing the video, only the audio stays alive, but the playhead seems freezes there where I left it).
One more problem: all the app (and customized) keyboard shortcuts are gone. Totally disappeared (this happened just after the last update, CC v8.1 Caravan. Synching from CC was unsuccessful.
Please don't suggest me to contact the adobe italian service to have an help... the last time (almost the same problem) they just made me lose time with some basic procedure checks that I knew were not leading me anywhere.
I ask sorry for my polemic tone, it's a few months that Adobe Premiere is not working anymore as before. And you can't immagine how many hours I've lost.
    Thank you very much,
    My best regards,
    Stefano Bianchi.

Also, a 512 MB VRAM GPU is really underpowered
Guys, would you suggest me a new graphic card (in case, which model on this Mac - would be great a 4 or 6 MB VRAM GPU) or a new Mac Pro? This is still a great machine, but it's starting becoming unusable due to this Premiere issue (that is day by day more severe).
Thanks a lot for any suggestion,
    Stefano.

  • Best ways for Capturing video using SD cards

    Hi
I have a lab of Imacs and we also have mostly Canon FS200's with SD cards. I'm experimenting with different software to capture the video using both streamclip and IMovie, but find that both will cause problems. The biggest problem is that the audio is out of sync. Is there any way to use final cut Pro version 6 that will accomplish this task more efficiently? Or should I use some other program?

The manual is embedded in the application. You can access it from the help menu and open it in Preview. Save it as a separate PDF. Or you can hack the application contents and copy it from there. PDFs are much better any way as they search incredibly quickly compared to trying to search an index that spans three volumes.
I didn't realize I was replying to you X. I meant to respond to the original poster.

  • Storage requirements for video using Nano, iMovie ( on mini Mac).

I recently acquired a new Nano with the video option. Took some video clips at a wedding and converted to a 7 minute video using iMovie on my Mac Mini. Included a few title pages. Required storage capacity 18GBytes. Seems excessive. Any comments on how I could get this figure down without reducing the length of the video etc.

Any other processes running on the mini at the same time?

  • Intel Macs & G5s: Problems when moving projects between them

An earlier post* suggesting complete compatibility between the latest FCP in a G5 and in an Intel Mac may be in error.
We are experiencing continuing crashes using our Intel Mac when we work on projects that were originally either imported or partially rendered in the G5.
It has gotten to the point where we feel we must keep projects completely isolated from each other: Either it is a "G5 project" or it is an "Intel Mac" project. Moving projects back and forth between the two leads to problems such as:
The Intel Mac does not recognize any renders done in the G5...
The Intel Mac crashes when rendering 'G5' projects...
The Intel mac crashes when compressor goes to work to export sequences to mpeg...
The G5 works fine with Intel Mac-originated material: It is only in the Intel Mac where we have these problems.
Both systems are up-to-the minute on their OS, security updates, and FCP versions. We are using variously 720p/30 from the JVC GY-100UA and 1080i/30 from the Sony Z1U.
    Our questions are:
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems moving projects between a G5 and an Intel Mac?
Is anyone moving projects between the two platforms and experiencing NO problems at all? That information would be just as valuable, and very welcome.
Apple FCP development team: Is our experience unique or have you had other reports like this? Any idea what could be causing our problems -- and what we can do to fix them?

    Scott,
    Welcome to the discussions!
I have had no problems moving my G5 projects over to my MP.
You can not move render files between machines.
When you changed systems, did you use Migration Assistant to transfer your files over to your new Mac Pro? You might need to install from the disks in order to achieve native Intel performance. See if you installed Final Cut 5.1 on your G5 then it installed the PPC code... if you put that drive into your Mac Pro or used Migration Assistant to move the app over it is still the PPC code... When you install from the installation disk, Installer determines what system you are installing on (PPC or Intel) and that's what it installs. This goes for all of your "Universal Binary" apps...
In the System Profiler app. under Software/Applications
Final Cut Pro "kind" should be Universal on your MP.
The FCP development team do not read these posts, only users do.

  • Premiere Pro/After Effects CC on Mac OSX crashes when moving media

I have Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, in both programs whenever I attempt to move any media (any format) to the timeline from the media browser window Premiere (and After Effects) crashes immediately.
I'm using a MacBook Pro w/ retina, running latest OS, and I have the Microsoft Office suite of apps installed.
Customer service had a go fixing it but to no avail, apparently it has something to do with fonts if that helps anyone, i've reverted all the fonts on my Mac back to the default but still nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Matt,
    Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe folder preferences are set to read/write in all 3 locations.
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Capturing video using XLR8's InterView device?

Since I prefer the QT software to the InterView software that came with my S-video to USB capture device... Is there a way to use QTPro instead?

I believe QuickTime Pro can only use Firewire connected cameras or devices. The same is true of iMovie.
USB 2 data rates are comparable to those found with Firewire 400 connections but the software (made by Apple) still only uses Firewire (also an Apple invention).
Years ago I used a Hollywood Dazzle DV Bridge and it offered S-Video input and Firewire output which worked great for Apple software.

  • Unable to capture video using FNC 5.1.1 Quicktime 7.1.2 using Pyro A/V link

Pyro A/V link is the capture device. They say if it works in iMovie HD then it works and they can't help me. It works in iMovie HD but not using Final Cut. I don't know what to do. Do I need quicktime pro? Is there some other driver I need? When I do log and capture it just does the beach ball and then nothing.

I use my camcorder it works with passthru.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC Timeline automatically zooms in when moving clips around

This is an issue that keeps happening. It has been an ongoing problem with Premiere Pro CC and now 2014.1. It would start after working for a while on a project and become more frequent as the project gets larger. The only way to rectify the problem is restarting the computer. I would be working and I go to drag a clip around on the timeline and the timeline will automatically zoom in and thus place the clip in the wrong location. This happens when I am not holding down any keys. It will continue to zoom in every time I move any clips on the timeline and once it starts it happens on all sequences. While restarting the computer seems to help I have to do that 5 or more times in a day which can be very frustrating. It doesn't seem to be related to any OS, computer, hard drive/storage. Deleting preview files, flushing PRAM, trashing preferences doesn't help either. I usually work with Quicktime files AppleProRes Codec or H.264. Any help or insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a video that demonstrates the bug:
Premiere Pro Version: Every version from 7.0.0 to 8.1
OS Version: Every version of Mavricks and Yosemite including version 10.10.1
The footage I most use is H.264 and ProRes 422
The problem occurs randomly throughout the day, nothing seems to trigger it. When it starts the only way to make it stop is to restart the computer
Other software running at this particular time is” Mail, Evernote, Safari, OmniFocus, On The Job, Text Expander, Messages, Preview
No third-party effects or codecs installed.
    Hardware:
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon 5
    32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
    AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB.
    No third-party I/O hardware.
Mercury Playback Engine is turned ON

    Hi Patrick,
Sorry, I've never seen that. What happens if you do not run any other software launched as you work? If you have time, please file a bug report: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug

  • Why on Premiere Elements 9 for Mac Unexpectly Quits when previewing edit?

Former Dell Windows XP PC user with new MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.5 with 2.53 GHz Intel iCore 5
Using Adobe Premiere Elements 9 for the Mac.
Experience: Premiere Elements 2, 4, 6, 7 on Windows based PC
First video editing experience on MacBook Pro using PSE9 so far consisting of 3 still pictures with titles and transitions.
The 3 still photos ran fine with no titles and no fades and no transitions.
When I add a title wth a fade in OR add a transition between photo clips and try to preview the edit without rendering the work area, The application suddenly quits with the message (see attached error message photo): Adobe Premiere Elements 9 quit unespectedly.
The Problem details and System Configuration runs hundreds of lines.
When I click the Reopen button, it doesn't work -- all I get is a white screen.
When I click OK, I get a Crash Report for Adobe Premiere Elements 9  window (see attached error message photo)
If I render the work area before previewing, the "unexpected quit" problem goes away.  So that is a solution but it is a "work around" solution.
    Attempts to solve problem:
Contacted Adobe support person via telephone named Jolly in India.  He connected to my computer so that he could see my screen.  His solution was to download an available update for  APSE9 and the first Preview run worked flawlessly.  So we hung up the phone.
Then I did one "cross disolve" transition and Bing !! ASPE9 unexpectedly quit !!
Any ideas at all?  NOTE:  This 70 yr old "didn't grow up with computers" is still on learning curve for using the Mac.
    Thanks in advance,  David (DRthiess)

Thank you Bill H. and Steve G. for your prompt reply and suggestions.
Bill, I started this project of editing the video from my son's, (the coach) boy's team winning the state Cross-Country championship back on Monday (now Thursday 12/2) with the intent of having it finished by the time I see him on Sat.  I'm running out of time to do extensive research and will have to use my "work arounds" the problem, namely rendering the work area before previewing an EDIT (and maybe even "sharing" small segments as a .mov file to my hard drive without previewing and then putting the segments together and later researching a fix.
Note Bill that when APrE9 first quits, I do get "details" that run hundreds of lines -- which mean nothing to this 70 yr. old mind.  I do submit reports into, is it APPLE? or is it ADOBE? that gets the reports.  And what does the "receiver" do with the reports anyway?
Steve.  The camera is a Sony DV camcorder (tape) but I haven't gotten to the video yet.  I started the video editing with 3 jpeg still photo and was trying to overlay them with titles with some fade in's and fade out's and Cross dissolve transitions.  So I haven't even dragged the action video to the time line yet.
NOTE: I have installed Parallels 6 and Windows 7 on my Mac and my Adobe premiere elements 9 (just purchased) came with both a Mac installation DVD and a Windows installation DVD.  The Adobe tech support said that I could try the Windows version when Windows 7 is up and running on my computer but that Adobe would not support that platform because as he said:  Window 7 on the Mac doesn't operate the same as Windows 7 on a PC.  News to me as I thought that by installing Windows 7 on my Mac, I would get the identical Windows environment with no conflicts.  Perhaps I was expecting too much.
Thanks again.  I'll report back when I get it solved or if I need more help.
    David
