Captured video when played becomes a crazy complex pixel mess! HELP! ASAP!

Hey,
I am importing images that work fine and play on my camcorder (Canon ZR65) and play well when previewing during the capture process (or import process)...
However when I try to play the clips in either the timeline or the right hand side where they rest they are coming up with NO SOUND, NO PICTURE except for a pixelated mess of various different colored blocks, like when a television goes out or they do a warning test. I have used the same machine with the same camera for various other projects and have no idea what is going on. Could it be the camera? I did drop it but it seems fine as does the firewire cable? I'm getting a new camera soon....
Oh..and if no one can tell me why that is happening can anyone tell me if I can put a movie from Windows Movie Maker into an IDVD project? (Then I can just use my other computer instead....)
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
"..a pixelated mess of various different colored blocks.." sounds like the picture has become scrambled: those pixellated blocks are incomplete digital data which can't be properly presented as video because bits are missing.
It might be that this was recorded at LP (Long Play) speed, and there's some slight tracking problem, especially as it was dropped! LP recordings have a far narrower width of recorded track, and any slight fault in head alignment will produce "dropouts" - which you're seeing.
Some camcorders detect these dropouts during replay, and "fill the gaps" with data from the previous frame of movie, so it may look OK on the camcorder. But the actual data transmitted down the cable - but do check the cable on another Mac, or with another device instead of the camcorder - may have "holes" in it.
If it's not an LP tape, but just ordinary SP (Standard Play), try playing the same tape in another camcorder, and importing from that. Try another FireWire cable, too ..maybe that one has a fault. (..Maybe there's a faulty connection on the in-camera FireWire socket if it's been dropped..)
This pixellation often means that the camera's heads need cleaning (..with a cleaning tape..) but in that case you'd see the pixellation in the camera's viewfinder, too, so that's probably not the case here.
If there's another Mac handy, try importing to that with a different FireWire cable. If the result's the same, then it's a transmission-from-camera problem, and the cause could be:
(1) LP recording ..try to stick with SP
(2) Head misalignment after being dropped
(3) Bad connections in camera's FireWire socket, through being dropped
In those cases, try importing from a different camcorder, but that may also be a problem with an LP tape, or if the recording was made after the camera was dropped - and so the recording has been made with a misaligned head and may not play back properly in an uninjured camcorder.

I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie.  Any suggestions to fix?

Thanks for the reply.  I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long.  After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix.  I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

  • Why do i get a thin tear moving thru my video when playing on my lcd?

Why do i get a tear thru my video when playing on my lcd? I have tryed 60mhz monitors & 120's but I still get a single thin  tear moving through the image. It happens mainly with HD footage when there is a lot of camera movement. I have an invidia gtx580 card, 24 gigs ram, cs5.5, 6 core proc. I'm using HDMI as I have a 42" tv hooked up to it at the moment. When I open the invidia software, the highest it goes to is 60 hertz & that is what it is set to.
Is there a setting that will take away this moving tear?

Different monitors, totally dif systems. They are DVI.
This sys is 3 ft sheilded hdmi. I only see the thin line tear when the camera moves fast. The monitor is 120 refresh rate & i tryed a 60 & it did the same thing. Mainly on HD foot when the camera moves quickly the thin horizontal tear appears temporarily then disappears when the action slows

  • Captured video only plays audio through one speaker

I captured video from a mini dv and when I play the clip in FCP the audio only plays out of one speaker and it only shows on one audio meter in FCP. I captured this video with a DSR-20 and it displayed NS Audio on the screen. Both meters were playing on the deck and in FCP while previewing and also through my headphones. Does anyone know what I need to do this to correct this?

First I'd verify how the audio was captured. Did you have it set for Ch 1 + Ch 2, or Stereo, or Ch 1 [only], or Ch 2 [only] or as a mono mix?
Next, verify that you actually had two channels of audio on the tape, not just one channel.
Assuming that there are two channels on the tape, load the captured clip into the Viewer and see if there is an audio waveform on both channels. If there is, check to see if both channels are panned the same - if they are, pan one left and one right or both to center.
If there were no waveforms on one of the channels, try capturing a short segment of the same tape using another Firewire cable.

  • I can hear the video when played on iPhone5 but when emailed the audio is very low

I'm unable to hear the videos when they are emailed from an iphone5. I can play it on the phone but the volume is extremely low when sent to email.  Any answers on how I can hear the video played louder when I open it from email on pc?

To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
    Operating   system
    Browser
    Flash   Player version
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details.  Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
    Windows
    Mac
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player.  I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform.  If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing.  You can verify the use of HTML5 by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the context menu.
    HTML5   video
    Non-HTML5 video

  • Problem Capturing Video when using A/D converter

I'm reasonably new to Final cut, but not a complete novice.
I have had good success in the past capturing video and also using the log and batch capture feature using a DV tape in my camcorder and having FCP control the camcorder.
Now I tried something that I have done in my past when I was using imovie 06. I have a VHS tape in my VCR connected to my Mac through my camcorder which acts as an A/D converter.
The problem is that when I do a log/capture and capture now, I start my VCR and see the video in the viewer but the capture window says that it can't find a timecode and remains black.
Can someone give me some advise on what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Thanks for the help.. could you point me in the right direction on where I set this setting? I looked in my Lisa Brenneis FCP6 book and I can't find a 'capture protocol' in the index.
    Thanks,
    Steve.

  • Capture video while playing audio in WP8 or WP81

    Hi,
Whenever I try to record a video using the CaptureSource it stops whatever audio was playing. How do I prevent recording video from stopping the audio being played?
    Thank you

    Hi Baracat,
Could you explain any scenario why you want to capture the video while playing the audio? You want to record the audio played from your device to your video?

  • Getting Videos to Play as Video When Playing Randomly with Music

I haven't been able to figure this out or maybe it can't be done. Is there a way to get music videos (or any video) to play as videos when they're intermingled with regular songs (MP3 or MP4a), playlists or otherwise?
When playing songs randomly in a playlist or if I play all songs, my videos with show the first frame of the video like it would album cover art and then just play the audio from the video. I hope this makes sense, thanks.

Thanks, I put the suggestion in last night. Hopefully it will be considered, I think it would be a nice feature to have. They could even add it in settings to play music videos as video when plaing among songs or not. Not sure if that's the best way to word that or not, but I'm sure they can figure it out.

  • [MSI RS480M2-IL] jerky video when playing mpeg2

My new msi rs480m2-il mainboard with venice 3000+ cpu and 512 mb twinmos ram shows problems when playing mpeg2 content. When playing recorded mpeg2 file the video is jerky (I already checked the video source, but it is random)
After first install of windows mce I found out the image was jerky and flashed the bios from 3.3 to 3.8 to see if it improves some things. The only improvement was that the CPU was recognised and that I could enable C&Q.
Then I did a fresh install of windows again (diabled all unneccesary stuff like firewire, second ide channel, onboard sound in the bios), but no improvements. It is totally worthless for usage as htpc.
After fresh install of windows I did the following:
    - installed all windows updates
    - installed ati catalyst 5.7 drivers
    - installed nvidia purevideo decoder 1.02-150
The playback is in VMR9 with hardware acceleration enabled, this results in a CPU load of 40-50% (which I think is pretty high).
    Where can I look?
    - VGA card
    - drivers
    - Memory
    - Bios
    - RMA mainboard?
Is there anyone facing the same problems? Did anyone succeed to eliminate these problems?
I am also facing the temp problem (venice core) which shows a cpu temp that is way too high

Realtek A3.74 drivers from realtek website
There are a few threads in the Forum on problems with the more current Realtek driver sets and the board, e.g. poping and stuttering.  It's always possible that the video playback is affected by audio.  The set on the MSI CD that came with the board is good.
I tested newer and also encountered problems.  I tested several of the Catalyst IGP sets without problems, but recommend you try the Realtek set on the CD.  Make sure you uninstall the current set before you move back.
FYI.....I tested ALL TYPES of media with the rig in my profile and video was very smooooooth on all tests.  Even streaming video from the net was good.  It's now my daughter's system, and she says it's running perfect.

  • Green Layer on Top & Bottom of video when played on Comp. & TV after Encode

I shot video in HD (1080 60i) and captured it into FCP in that format and edited the whole project in that format. It plays fine in FCP when I preview it on my computer monitor.
I then went to Compressor and made it a SD (not HD) MPEG 2 Widescreen. I then imported it into DVD Studio Pro and set it up the proper way. When I went to simulate it, I noticed there was a green video layer on both the top and bottom of the screen right above where the black widescreen bars are.
I went ahead on burned the DVD as I always do. When I play it on widescreen TV I cannot see the black bars on Top and Bottom because it is a full picture and takes up the entire screen. When I play the DVD on a CRT Television, the black bars appear on top and bottom, like they are supposed to, and the green video is there on both the top and bottom like it is in DVD Studio Pro when I simulated it.
What is this green video doing there and how do I get rid of it? I never had this problem before. It seems only to be happening during the encoding process.
I am using a Mac Pro
    Snow Leopard
    Mac OS 10.6.4
    Final Cut Studio 3
    Thanks in Advance

What I like to do when testing is to create the action safe and text safe lines in photoshop and burn them on a test DVD so I can see how much overscan shows.
My HDTV only cuts off a little bit while my older TV's really cut allot and almost go to the text safe lines.
Just something fun to test out.
Im hoping one day we will just have no PAR's and no overscan just like our computers.
Have our TV's just like our computers so if looks good on a computer it will look the same on TV's but that day im sure is far off.

  • No video when playing QuickTime MOV file in iTunes

I received a QuickTime MOV file from a business associate who transferred it from his Canon Vixia HF10 camcorder to his Mac. When I load up the file in iTunes on my Win XP machine, it will play back the audio, but there is no video. When I try to play it back in QuickTime, a window comes up telling me that additional software is needed. When I click the button to go download the software, a browser window comes up listing about 15 different products -- with no indication of which if any will solve the problem. I don't know for certain that any of them will, and I don't have time to download 15 products to test each one. Is there not a more simple way to find out what I need and where to download it? Alternatively, is there a way to convert this file to a friendlier format? This is video of a business event that we need to edit for distribution.

Thanks. That explains it. The person who made the .wmv file says it was made with Camtasia Studio. Do you have any idea what he might have done for it to choose this MSS2 codec over something more universally compatible?
Camtasia is a screen capture application for Windows (like Snapz Pro for mac). We use it here, it works quite well but you get WMV files and tough darts, I guess if you want other than that. I presume real time capture of activity on the screen calls for a codec simple enough to keep up and not drop frames. It does work quite well though.
Play it on WMP in Parallels, Boot Camp, etc.

  • No video when playing a .wmv file?

I have a problem with a .wmv file. When I play it in QuickTime or VLC, I hear audio only, but no video. I have the latest Flip4Mac plugin and have no problems playing other .wmv files. The first time I played the file in QuickTime, as was directed to the Apple QuickTime components web site (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=OSX&ctype=696d6463&c subtype=4d535332) because "Additional software is required by QuickTime to playback this media...". But I see no plugin on that web site that would be applicable.
I would be grateful for any ideas as I want to purchase educational videos from this vendor, but can not if their files won't work on a Mac. The 43MB file can be downloaded here for testing: http://files.me.com/pschannong/x20p20
I run 10.5.6 on an Intel Mac.
