Captureing from a dv camera....

i have been using the capture feature in fcp to log each in and out i want to be a clip and then batch capture but i want to be able to just press one button and have it capture every clip i shot from where ever i have it start from to the end or when ever i stop it... basically i pressed record on the caemare and 10 seconds later i press it again to stop... i do this repeatedly having more than one clip... is there any way to import these as seperate clips in fcp soo i dont have to sit there and set which i want each clip to be? i remember in iMovie you can do this by pressing one button and it would import them like that...

What you are doing with logging each clip then batch capturing is the first basic edit of the material. Do you bring in EVERY clip on the tape? Spending a little time with the footage before it comes into the system is useful as you see the material and have a chance to eliminate bad, unusable clips before they are captured. In some cases this will save you a significant amount of time in not having to sort through and eliminate all the junk on your hard drive.
However, if you want to do the "play the tape, capture the clips automatically" thing, look into Capture Live Plus by Squarebox software. It will cut up a long tape capture into individual files. There is also a compatable database application (CatDV) that will help you track complex media projects as well.
good luck.

  • Final Cut Express won't allow me to capture from my vdo camera

I just loaded Final Cut Express HD on my Mac because I wanted to upgrade from IMOVIE. My Powerbook G4 had no problem capturing video with my Sony HDV 1080i video camera. But I can't get Final Cut Express HD to locate my camera at all no matter what "easy setup" setting I choose. But if I turn on IMOVIE, the program can capture from my video camera no problem. I know the firewire cable is hooked to the computer correctly & the camera is on & in the VTR mode. If anyone can help me identify this problem, I'd really appreciate it because I'm trying to begin a new video project & can't if I can't capture video. Thanks for helping.

Fritz from Technical support told me about a glitch in Final Cut Pro & Express HD that happens when you upgrade to Quicktime 7. He told me to go to this article: Link: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n301852
and follow the instructions & it would fix my problem. It didn't & then of course I called tech support back & it was after hours. I still can't capture from my video camera but it works in IMOVIE. I removed Final Cut Express HD from my computer (even all the files in library/users, etc.) and then reinstalled it. It still gives me the same error even though I have my camera plugged in & turned on. It says unable to locate capture device. This is unbelievable. Hopefully I can get some help. Brian

  • Unable to capture from Sony HDFX1 camera

Built a new PC and utilized a top end ATI Radeon dual video card. Running Vista Ultra OS(hmmmm), plenty ram, processor, etc.
PC does not see my camera when I plug in for capture. Do I need a special codec or 1394 HD drivers available for HD capture from ATI or from Adobe perhaps?
    Frustrated

If the Vista install was a standard installation, Vista should recognize the camera automatically and install the correct drivers. Nothing you need to do. Make sure that you connect the firewire cable first between the camera and the on-board firewire connector. Do not try to connect it to the ATI card. Once the cable is connected, turn on the power on the camera and set it to VCR. Vista will then install the necessary drivers automatically and if they have been installed previously, show the autoplay box. Make sure that the menu in the camera is correctly setup to use the iLink connection and the format you shot in, so either DV or HDV. Consult the Sony manual for that. If the does not work, try a different cable first.

  • Capturing from the JVCGY100U Camera

    Format is HDV30P
Camera( aka capture devise) is JVC GY 100U
    I am on FCP 5.1.4
I am trying to capture a clip. The capture breaks up the logged clip into multiple clips and they have about 8 seconds that is not captured between the breaks.
I a know that the camera was not turned off during the shoot or stopped. My setting are set to "capture through timecode breaks" and I have also tried using the "make new clip on timecode break" setting. I am using the HDV capture preset.
    Any advise?
    THANKS!

I posted this a while ago but I was capturing from a camera. I am now captuing from a JVC Deck (BRHD50).
Still, as I capture FCP makes a new clip and I lose about 6 seconds. This happens A LOT.
The media that is not captured IS on my tape. I can hear it from the deck.
The media was not at the beginning of a take and is a lot of time it is in mid-sentence.
As of my last posting I leaned that you lose about 8 seconds each time you press play on the JVC100U camera. That I get. But this is at places that are in the middle of a take. My setting are set to "capture through timecode breaks" and I have also tried using the "make new clip on timecode break" setting. I am using the HDV capture preset.
PLEASE HELP or I will have to re-shoot the interviews.

  • Capture from digital video camera

I am so new to this. My computer runs Windows XP Pro.
I am a baseball hitting instructor that uses a digital camera to record swings for training. For the past 18 months I have used video capturing software called RightViewPro that allows my clients to view thier swing while with me only. But now I want to send thier video clips via email or post them Online for customer viewing. RightViewPro does not allow that unless my customers order the $250.00 software as well.
Frame by frame viewing capability is a must. I just downloaded the free version of quicktime 7.6.2.
What must I do when I plug in my USB cord to my laptop? When connecting the USB cable from my camera to my laptop I get a window that gives access to Windows Movie Maker, Nero, and "Take no Action".
I thought after downloading quicktime I would get a command or prompt to open and use "quicktime" as well.
So I clicked on "take no action" and then openned the quicktime link from my desktop. I can not find where to capture video in the quicktime program??
Do I need to purchase and download Quicktime Pro. to capture video from my camera to my computer?
Thank you for taking the time to read this and help me.
    James

Sorry, but QuickTime for Windows cannot capture directly from a camcorder. You'll need to use other software. Did your camera not come with capture/transfer software?

  • FCE will not recognise or capture from AC-DVC30E camera!

    Hello,
I am trying to capture footage (DV-PAL 48k anamorphic) from a Pan AC-DVC30E camera into Final Cut Express, but a message appears unable to locate device. I have tried every DV setting available and bought a new firewire cable to check it wasn't the firewire connection. Any ideas?
    Thank you.

thank you for the quick response David. It is set to VCR and AV in/out settings in the camera are set to DV Out - 'On'.
I have attempted to capture with the camera plugged into a power source - unfortunately this hasn't helped.
I must be missing something, just cannot work it out!

  • Out of sync audio when trying to capture from digital 8 camera to quicktime, please help

    Just trying to capture hi 8 tapes using a sony digital 8 dcr-trv355e pal into quicktime;
great clear video but  audio becomes out of sync like a bad kungfu movie,
contacted apple they tried to help, but they dont really understand issue
    there are lots of people out there that are trying to digitise old analog video;
    I have fcpx and imovie they both play the old video via  the digital 8 camera but cannot capture;
that is why using quicktime; thanks!!

Yes i think its something to do ith the fact its a wmv file, when i use mpeg footage it exports fine.
basically, no matter how long the video, the video is out of sync...its weird
i've decided the best thing to do is leave quicktime and export using windows media instead, that seems to give me a better looking picture witha small file size anyway
    thanks for your help though!

  • Capturing from an HD camera

I have some footage on a Panasonic, HD camcorder (SD/HDD Hybrid) and I want to import it into final cut or imovie. What is the best way for me to do this?

I just got a new HV30 yesterday and shot a 1 minute 15 seconds video to test the camera. I read many posts about problems of capturing into FCE with Canon cameras.
I just wanted to post that the capture went very smooth and my scrach disk is a seagate and is daisy chained. I wanna mention that I tested both DV anamorphic and HD.
The DV capture was as easy as my old JVC camera capture. I used DV anamorphic setting in easy settup.
The HD capture...I used HD standard setting in easy settup.
I used a regular DV tape and not DV HD as the HV30 manual recomends.(I need to buys some tapes.) So I don't know if the HD tape will make a difference capture-wise. I was expecting all sorts of incompatibility issues with the HV30...but it was very easy and without any complications. That said, I still need to test a real HD tape and shoot a 10 minutes or more of video to see if I am going to have problems.
    Ian,
You said above: "Plug the camera into your Mac and treat it like an external HD. Locate the video files and copy them to your desktop."
Is this a camera specific thing, do I need to do the same thing with the HV30?

  • Can not capture from Sony HDV 1080i (recording in 60i)

    Hello
We are trying to capture from the above camera to a Mac Dual G5. We are using FinalCutPro 5.1.2. We are using a FireWire 400 cable to connect to the front of the computer (have also tryed back of Cinema Display). The footage was captured in HDV1080/60i, and we have tried the corresponding formats in Easy Setup (Basic, standard, Apple Intermediate).
The problem: we can control the camera from the Log and Capture windows, but when starting capture, no data is coming in, and the program therefor gives up after a few seconds (displaying a no data error message).
We have tried Batch and Now capture. We can log clips, and get the correct time code, but can not capture those clips due to the no data problem.

This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem with FCP (if that's what it is):
First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
Follow the instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite safe but you must Trash the Receipts AND re-install QT from the link provided.
If the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
Let us know how you get on!

  • Premiere standard 7.0 vaio-Capturing from HDcamcorder

Premiere standard 7.0 (preinstalled) for Vaio
Does anyone know if this older version of Premiere would have any difficulties capturing from a new HD cam? As long as the i-link recognizes the cam it should work right?
anyone can lend some insight before I replace my older Dv cam with and Hard disk cam...
    thanks all
    derek

    Derek,
Over time, Adobe has offered variations on some of their products as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) installations. Usually, these programs' names differ from the normal version #'s and maybe even the full name. Going back some years, Adobe offered Photoshop LE and Photoshop Lite as "premiums" with devices, like scanners. Same for some pre-installed versions on computers (straight from the computer company, i.e. Dell, Sony, Toshiba, etc.), These version #'s and names can be confusing.
As I am confused on what program you have, and how it translates to the retail versions, how old is your computer? "Premiere 7" was about six (just a guess on my part) years ago, maybe more. Also, Adobe threw a monkey-wrench into the naming scheme, when they went from Premiere to Premiere Pro. Throw in OEM versions, and the numbers get horribly jumbled. Same for Premiere Elements, 1, 2, 3, 4 straight to 7. If you have Premiere Elements 7 (current), the next paragraph should tell you this.
Open your copy of Premiere, and go to the Help screen. Choose "About Adobe Premiere" (or similar) and tell us what it says, on that screen.
As features and file format handling change per version, that might help define what your version can, and cannot do.
Along the way, I'd try to Capture from your HD camera, via iLink, and see what happens. If you get any error messages, be sure to write down the entire message.
Also, it could well be that your Premiere will Capture perfectly, but you might not be able to control the device, i.e. your camera. You might have to start Capture and then manually hit your camera's Play button. Still, if you CAN Capture the material, you are good to go. Many/Most versions of Premiere Pro do not display HD Capture on a monitor, but do perfectly fine with the actual Capture. This *might* be the case with your version. Do not be alarmed, if you do not SEE the Capture taking place. Be patient, and then study the resulting file after Capture has completed.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can't capture from my cannon video camera to Final Cut or iMovie.

Hi. I can't capture from my cannon video camera to FInal Cut or iMovie. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my iMac is recognizing the camera. I was told I don't need a firewire, that USB would work if I'm just capturing. If I need a firewire what kind (the one I was sold didn't fit). I'm getting an "unable to locate external device message". Not sure of next steps to try. Thanks.

Forget USB for capturing from tape. USB is only for stills from a Tape Based camera.
    You require a firewire cable.
The camera connection end will be four pin and the Mac is nine pin to the 800 port.
Ask for a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. Sounds like you have the wrong one as they can also be 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 pin!!
Also you will need the correct Easy Setup in FCE so FCE talk to the camera, exactly which one depends on what type of footage is being sent to FCE from the camera during capture.

FCP 10.1 DV capturing from camera breaking the scenes into unwanted clips by flashing a black screen on import window. But its fine and accurate with adobe premiere pro cc ?
    Any solution * Advance Thanks

FCP X will import into separate clips every time it detects a scene change (as when you stopped and started recording in the camera). There is no option to avoid this, as far as I known.
You may try importing from camera using Quicktime Player X and then bringing the imported file into FCP X.

  • Is it Possible to Mark Chapter while capturing from camera?

While capturing from camera there are incidents (like obvious mis-speaks, etc.)that I would like to mark during the shoot when they happen to facilitate finding them while editing.
Is this possible to enter a chapter marker or something during live capture?
    Open to any other suggestions.
    Thank you.
    I am using FCP 7.0.3.

After about a year of manually noting the time code and notes, I finally found a solution to the problem of marking chapters during a live shoot.
Final Cut Pro X will not allow you to mark a file while capturing it, probably because it does not actually change the raw file.  However I just found a piece of software that will do the trick nicely.  It is called Cut Notes.  The only catch is that you must have an iPad to run it.
You can purchase it from digital rebellion for $9.99 at
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/cutnotes/
You start Cut Notes at the same time that you begin to capture, and it will start a timeline, identical to the one in FCP.  Then for every edit point, you simply tap a key to insert the timecode along with either a pre-determined note or manually entered note as to the event.  For example I have a note key that says MisSpeak, the opertator just taps it when I mis speak and it saves the time code and the MisSpeak title into a text file.   I have another note key same for "walked off screen." You can Edit any number of note keys you may need. Then when finished, Cut Notes will email the file to your computer, simply import it to FCP as chapters using a free utility available at the same website.  Awesome!!!
The only caveat is that you must import the file with markers before you do any editing to the project in FCP.
    Hope this is helpful.
