Capturing 24p with non 24p camera

Ive been having lots of capture problems, i know this, so please be patient. So i shot my footage on 24p but am capturing with a cheaper camera so I don't wear down my heads. But when I capture it, it imports it not as 24p, my easy setting is in 24p. The other thing that tipped me off is whenever i brought a clip into the timeline, it needed to be rendered. I then switched my easy setting to dv-ntsc, and opened a new sequence. Then, when I brought in the same clip, not recaptured, it did not need to be rendered. Im wondering if this is due to the camera Im using to import. Thanks.
Powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

24p and 24 pa are two distinct beasties. 24p is actually recorded at 29.97 and you just import it as regular dv.
You are using a 24pa easy set up; hence your confusion. Search the forum, plenty of reading on this.

  • Capture Now with Non-Controllable Device and Timecode from deck

    Hi,
Trying to replace a windows laptop using premiere during our events.
The mentioned system will allow me to get audio/video/timecode all through firewire from the deck AND allow me to "capture now" as a non-controllable device.
I have not been able to find out how to do this with FCP6. I am able to get the timecode I need, but only with the "controllable" device settings I have thus far tried, at which point a "capture now" gives me an error message stating that the tape has ran out (or something of the sort)
With "Non-Controllable Device" selected, I can "capture now" but the slot where the deck's timecode had been located is completely gone and no timecode was recorded on any of the test clips I tried.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi -
    I'm confused.
The DSR 45A only has one firewire port, if you are plugging your computer into that to source the video, where is the video and timecode source feeding the DSR-45A coming from?
Within the DSR 45A there are internal menu selections that specify the timecode behavior of the DSR-45A, are these menu settings correct?
If you load a pre-recorded tape into the DSR-45A can you control the deck, and successfully capture from it as a controlled device from your FCP computer?
    You said:
we have main deck, a backup deck and a dvr deck recording the primary feed. the capture now stuff is extra bonus!
What are the formats of these decks? Is the timecode feeding the DSR-45A coming from one of them?
    Thanks

  • Problem with video capture device, with a virtual camera

I try to use Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3 with a virtual camera(DirectShow Filter) but met such a problem:
"Error connecting input preview RGB filter."
    "Failed with error 80004005:SetupInputVideoPreview(pFilter, pguidCategory)"
    "Failed with error ffffff97:SetupVideoPreview(pFilterSource)"
"Problem with video capture device. Please verify that the video capture device is working correctly and is not already in use."
However, it is good to use AMCap,
    what's the problem with FMLE.
Looking forward to your replies. Thx!

Did you ever figure out the problem/solution?
I am experiencing the same thing with my virtual camera filter when connecting to FME?

  • Capturing footage from non-firewire camera help!

I'm just getting into editing and have always heard the way to import footage is via firewire.  I haven't bought my camera yet but have been looking at the canon hf s21, but it doesnt have a firewire port.  So does this mean I can only use the usb 2.0? I don't want it to take 10 days to rip 20min's worth of footage.
here are the specs for the s21: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/camcorders/consumer_camcorders/vixia_hf_s2 1#Specifications
I just need to know if this camera will be compatible with adobe after effects and premiere.
    Thanks so much!

Don't worry about the camera being USB2 instead of FireWire. Most, if not all camcorders that record AVCHD won't have FireWire anyway. But don't worry about the transfer speed either. USB2 transfer rate is 480Mbps, and FireWire is 400Mbps. While USB2 may seem faster in specs, practically it isn't always true. It depends and many things, but for all intents and purposes, they are about the same speed.
Now, will transferring the footage from the camera connected to the computer be faster or slower then taking out the SD card and putting it in an SD card reader on your computer, will depend on the camera and the SD card reader. But in theory, it should be about the same speed. Although, with a good USB3 SD reader, with class 10+ cards, you'll be able to transfer faster. Mind you, because AVCHD is at the most 24Mbps, it will transfer very quickly anyway. Faster then realtime. Whereas, with FireWire, it's realtime only.
As for the camera being compatible with after effects and premiere, don't worry about it. File based cameras like the Canon, are not really an issue. The question you have to ask yourself is "Is my computer fast enough?" Because, AVCHD is a very CPU intensive codec. And while PPro and AE can read natively this codec, running it smoothly in another matter altogether. A fast CPU with enough RAM is what you really need to edit efficiently. I'd actually be more worried about this, then the actual transfer speed.

  • Connecting my iSight with non-iSight cams

Hello. I am trying to connect my iSight with friends who have pc cams and am unable to do so. What do I need to do to resolve this?

    Hi cci55,
They need XP preferably at Service Pack 2.
They need either AIM 6.1 or AIM 5.9 (Definitely NOT AIM 6.0 called Triton).
    They could Trillian Pro
They then need to allow the app they use as an Exception though their XP firewall
The AIM 6.1 app needs to be allowed as AIM6.exe rather than just AIM which will do AIM 5.9
If they are using AIM 5.9 it may also need "Tuning" See message 570 onwards.
These options will allow you to use iChat.
You may need to set your Mac Firewall if it is ON
See the second pic here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html#_ports
You are almost certainly going to need to allow iChat to get through your modem or router by opening or allowing Ports there.

  • Disable auto launch for non apple cameras?

iPhoto launches automatically with non-iOS cameras, how do I disable?
    (no application is selected)

    Disable it in Image Capture.
With your camera or card reader connected launch Image Capture. Select the camera in the sidebar.
In the lower left corner of the window is a disclosure triangle. There you can also set which app should open for each camera. You will have to do this for each card you are using with your cameras.

Filming on a Panisonic 24p camera but I imported it into final cut with a Sony HD camera. Will this mess up the quality of of my shots when I ad slow motion? I have noticed that the slow mo is a little chopy. PLEASE HELP!....

24p is captured with your standard "DV-NTSC" easy setup, whereas 24pA is captured with the "DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown" easy setup. Correct me if I'm wrong I still have yet to work in 24pA.

  • Logging / Loading 24P tape w/Non 24P Camera

Some friends shot some footage w/a Panasonic 24P camera in 24P mode, and I'm now trying to upload the footage w/my camera that doesn't feature 24P. The problem is that no time code is showing when I play back the footage on my camera, just 0:00;00 the whole time. I therefore can't mark in and out points for capturing. Do I have to use there cameras to log and load this footage, or is there another way around this? Any help would be obliged.

Try logging the clip first, then batching the offline clip.

  • At what setting should you capture 24p Panasonic VariCam footage?

    Hi Everyone,
I'm very new to DVCPRO HD and have been capturing 24p footage shot on the Panasonic VariCam camera with the capture setting DVCPRO 720p/24, and the duplicate frames have been removed during capture. What is the difference between capturing 24p footage from the VariCam at 720p/24 (23.98fps) versus 720p/60 (59.94fps) in terms of the editing workflow? Are either of these settings preferable? I've heard contradicting stories on this...
The final output of this project will be to DVD but also 35mm film most likely. Any advice will be appreciated.
    Sadie

Use the DVCPRO HD 720p 23.98 Easy Setup.
Advantage? Well, for one it was SHOT that way, so why not capture it. Beside the film look, capturing at 23.98 as opposed to 59.94 means that you use less than HALF the drive space. Less frames means less space used up.
The final output of this project will be to DVD but also 35mm film most likely.
Then you definately want 23.98 over 59.94. Film is 24fps...so 23.98 translates nicely.

  • Can't capture 24p

I'm trying to capture 24p footage from two different cameras: Panasonic 100 and Panasonic 200, both from DV Tape with no results: it stops after three or four seconds. I have FCP 5.1.4 and QT 7.4.1. I'm capturing those tapes with a Sony DV camcorder DCR-TRV19. Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot

    24P or 24PA?
Regardless, you capture at 29.97, not at 24.

  • Work around for capturing 24p in FCE

I am working on a clients system its a new Mac Power Book Pro running FCE 4.
Shot some HD footage at 24p. I have discovered that FCE does not natively capture 24p. Anyone suggest a good work around? trying to capture at 29.97 the footage stuters pixilates and creates copius amounts of un usable files.

Try using MPEG Streamclip or JES Deinterlacer to convert your frame rate and progressive to interlaced.
Just be aware that changing the frame rate is not a great thing to do, as you are likely to lose some visual quality, especially since you are in an NTSC country and will have to go to 29.97 or 60i. (If you were in a PAL country you might get away pretty good converting to 25 fps, which means only 1 additional blended frame in each 24. NTSC won't be as clean.)
You also need to find out exactly how the original video was shot. There are quite a few camcorders that shoot 24p over 30i or 60i, so you may actually have 60i material. It would help a lot to know exactly what make/model camera was used for the source footage.

  • HELP NEEDED CAPTURE DV FOOTAGE WITH HDV VIDEO CAMERA

I'm trying to capture DV video footage I've done years ago with my Sony DCR-HC40E PAl into FCP version 6. with my new camera HDV video Sony HDR-HC7 1080.i/mini dv so I can capture it into FCP but it's jerky, An yone know the setting for both the HDv camera and FCP to get the footage perfect as the rginal video.
    Cheers

From the FCP menu bar: Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup > DV-PAL > OK. (Use DV PAL Anamorphic if you shot wide screen).
Menu bar once more: Sequence > Settings > Set Sequence Preset > OK.
That camera should detect the DV format tape and playback with the correct settings automatically.
All you ned to do is connect it via FireWire and capture.
For everything else, here's the manual for that camera: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/HDRHC5.pdf

  • Has anybody with experience using non apple camera kit

I do not own ipad but intends to purchase one.
I would wish a camera connection kit for iPad and am aware of one sold by Apple.
I came across the following in Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/connection-protectors-included--similar-MC531ZM/dp/B0040 FUOUM/ref=sr12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1300954916&sr=1-2
Does anybody have experience in using such similar non-Apple camera kit on an iPad?
    Regards

The reviews state that the device doesn't work with iOS 4.2. So, I would guess it doesn't work and wouldn't buy it.

  • Capture preset for a multishoot with 3 diferent cameras

    hello everyone
    i just shot a three camera shoot with a panasonic dvx100b, Canon Gl1 and a Sony HVR-A1U 1080i
the footage from the dvx100b looks bad not clean also , i shot it on a tripod from the back of a room , there was lighting on the stage but the footage is not crisp or clean, im not sure if its because of the lighting situation and white balance or
maybee its because i used a wrong capture setting?
what preset should i use to capture this footage, since each camera is different, i need to capture diferently and then what sequence settings- now that Final Cut 6 can handle mix format.
    thanks
    Danny

what preset should i use to capture this footage, since each camera is different
Capture at the same settings as what you recorded. The DVX100B and the Canon GL1 both only record in DV (NTSC or PAL) so choose the appropriate capture preset in FCP. One note, use "Firewire Basic" as the Device Control setting IF you capture from a Canon camcorder.
The HVR-A1U can record in either HDV or DV. Use the capture preset that matches that ... but if you recorded in HDV with the camera, you can choose to down-convert to DV in-camera during the capture process.
