Capturing a raster image's texture to be saved in Illustrator swatches

Does anyone know how to capture a raster
image's texture and save it into Illustrator swatches?
Thanks

where is the image coming from?
in illustrator you can drag any embedded image into the swatch palette to create a texture. you won't be able to do just a portion of an image. if you just want a sample of an image you need to copy it onto an image editing program, copy the area you want, past it back in illustrator and then drag that to you palette.

  • 3d Mapping a shape with a raster image. Another program?

Hey all. So, like the title suggests, I'm trying to make a raster file look 3d, say like adding a texture to a drapery, or picture to a guy's shirt.. lots of curves. I thought meshing, but it seems that's only for color, and not symbols. I also thought maybe there's a plug-in for Photoshop. And if neither, does Adobe make a 3d modeling program I could use?
    Thanks,
    Kaleb

Mesh Envelopes can distort raster images. You would then add other objects to create the shading. You can do quite convincing renderings this way, but it's rather tedious.
3D Effect can map raster images to its model surfaces, and shade them; but it is limited to simple extrusions and lathes; so it's more suited to shape primitives, not really practical for surfaces with folds
    and irregular compound curves.

  • MDT 2013 won't capture 8.1 image, does not boot to PE to capture

I am doing this with Server 2012 R2 and MDT 2013, and the reference machines are VMs
I initially created a deployment share for creating windows 7 and windows 8.1 reference images and capturing and deployment worked ok. After getting into some more details i customized the deployment share customsettings  to make things easier and created
a separate capture share for capturing new reference images. I updated permissions on the share so my service account has access to it.
In this share i imported the windows 8.1 os files and copied the sysprep and capture task sequence i used to capture my first reference image [from the original deployment share], but when running the task sequence it reboots and just goes back into windows,
instead of windows PE to capture the image.
I copied a windows 7 capture sequence to the capture share, imported the windows 7 files and updated the task, and it rebooted into PE without a problem and copied an image. so I don't believe I have any permissions/customsettings problems with the new share.
Im not seeing any errors jump out at me in the bdd.log but I'm new-ish to going over the logs and using MDT to start with so I may be missing the obvious. I am using SMS trace and dont see any red/yellow highlites either.
In windows 7 i did have the vm in audit mode when i mapped the share as an admin and started the task sequence. In windows 8.1 i am not in audit mode [after doing some research and learning more about using MDT it did not seem necessary]
After comparing a run of the windows 7 task to windows 8 i see the boot.wim copied to the win 7 vm, but i dont see it on the win 8 vm. There is a partition created, i cant see data in it when i show hidden files.

    Thanks for your reply.
The pc is not in the domain when i run litetouch. It was joined after install, then i run some local gpos/scripts against it, install all of the shared printers from servers, then i put it back in a workgroup, login as the local administrator, delete the
domain profiles and guids in the registry, briefly connected back to a domain server [not with a mapped drive] to copy a couple of files, rebooted into the local admin account an ran litetouch.
After running litetouch.wsf the first time in the windows 8.1 pro vm [no changes, but manual connection] it rebooted without sysprepping or taking an image
I deleted the task sequence and created another one with "sysprep and capture" as the sequence.  i made no changes to the task sequence. did all of the above, ran litetouch, and it just reboots. sysprep does not run and windows pe does not load.
if i run sysprep and boot into audit mode [as a test, since my windows 7 vm snapshot was in audit mode when it runs litetouch.wsf], then run litetouch, sysprep works, then it DID capture an image, but after that image was capture and the VM rebooted, i got
this error when loading windows 8
"windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation" and if i hit ok it will reboot and error out again.
Haven't had any issues with that VM until now.
I reverted to my snapshot and just ran sysprep oobe w/ generalize to see how it would react
it failed, setuperr.log shows SYSPRP failed to remove apps for the current user. some searching gives me information on that and makes me think its related to adding/deleting user profiles? i dont actually use or update the apps at all, i have a deploy task
that removed most of them and customizes the start screen and those seem to work without issue.
found this as my reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2769827/en-nz
Sysprep has an additional provider that is added in Windows 8 to clean appx packages and generalize the image. The provider will only work if the Appx package is a per-user package or an all-user provisioned package.
    and
    Resolution
The correct way of removing the package is to remove the package for the user running sysprep and also remove the provisioning. This can be done using the following Powershell cmdlets:
    Import-Module Appx
    Import-Module Dism
    Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Where PublisherId -eq 8wekyb3d8bbwe | Format-List -Property PackageFullName,PackageUserInformation
if i run that i get a lot of
    [unknown user]: installed
Do I just need to revise my process and start from scratch? or at least just never actually join the domain and user other profiles? thats a convenience thing so its not a big deal, really.
I have an image made in a similar way that works, but doesnt have quite all the updates/changes i wanted. It captured [at the time] fine and installs without issue
Heres an overview of what I do [i am open to some revisions on this]
-deploy windows 8 base install from MDT
-join domain, login with service account [just makes getting to some things easier]
-install office 2010 pro plus w/ sp2 [i do understand that these can be set as an MDT app but the install takes a while and i dont like waiting on it if i dont have to]
-install windows updates [no WSUs server currently, on my future to-do list, not my decision right now and i do understand the benefits of having one]
-connect to servers and install all network printers [we have so many that i dont want to wait on the drivers when we do a big roll out soon]
-install oracle software [i can get it to automate in windows 7, not 8, so i dont want to manually deal with it post-install]
-install adobe reader/java [i do understand that these can be set as an MDT app]
-leave domain, reboot, login as local admin
    -clean domain profiles/registry guids
-make some local gpoedits [we dont have 8.1 enterprise and just want the start screen locked down]
    -install our AV network agent
    -lite touch.
    any advice is appreciated

  • How to find out embedded raster image is Black&White or Color image?

Is there any possibility to find out the embedded raster image is Black&White, Gray image (or) Color image in "illustrator cs3" without using color mode shown in "document info" pannel. Kindly advice me, the possibilities and solution. And also any scripts avilable for this?
    Thanks.

Or you could select the embedded image, and open the Window>Document Info panel. Select Embedded Images from the fly out menu on the Document Info panel. This should give you the color mode and more info on the embedded file in question.

  • Getting Acrobat to display raster images in pdf's "As Is"

I hate the way acrobat resamples raster images on a monitor when it's not displaying it at its exact size. It looks like crap, not surprisingly, since it doesn't do resampling using opengl like photoshop does.
Let's say I create an image for viewing purposes only (I just want a client to open a pdf and be able to view my work as is), I save it as a 900x700 pixel image at 72dpi, but when I open the pdf it will always upscale it even when I edit the document properties and select "actual size" on initial display. I don't want any resizing, as the only way to display the image in pristine condition is if it's showing at its native resolution (ie 900x700 pixels).
Is there any way to control how a pdf will display an image on a client's machine? Or should I rather just build an offline web page and skip the pdf entirely?

The format in which a bitmap image is stored has no bearing whatsoever on the size it appears on screen.
    Phillip Jones wrote:
That may not be so helpful either. Because depending upon Monitor size anything on a web page is Contracted or expanded as well. Example what on say a 27" screen is going to look much different than on a 17"  If its saved as a Jpeg image you will always have this.
If save as a PNG it will Remain the same shape and detail just get larger or smaller

  • Vectors printing jagged when placed over raster images

I am fixing a previously designed flyer for a reprint. On the last print, any vector object placed on top of the raster image was very noticeably jagged. This included both white text, which simply had jagged edges, to colored text, which had white jaggies as well. Drawn vector objects and clipping paths in jpgs were also jagged.
I used InDesign CS3 to create it, but I outlined the type, embedded all the images and exported as a .pdf (my project manager insists on this; so maybe it's not even an ID issue).
It looks fine when I print it on my hp LaserJet 2550n or the office's Canon iR 2800i - but that's never been a good way to tell how it's going to turn out at the end.
I know just making it all in Photoshop is probably the safest option, but I would really like to keep the sharpness of the vectors, and I've got Character/Paragraph styles etc going that would be a pain to redo in Photoshop. Plus, copy+pasting it into Photoship creates pdf/vector object that looks just as horrid (on screen - it looks the same when I print it on the above-mentioned printers, but I'm still paranoid).
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any help you are able to offer!
    Lisa

Peter, thank you for your reply. I really appreciate the help.
Generally, I use the default settings for [Press Quality], since I don't have a complete understanding of all the settings. I have appended the .txt pdf setting summary at the bottom of this post.
I'm aware that outlining type is supposed to be unnecessary but 1) my project manager insists on it because he doesn't want to deal with any kind of font problems (maybe if this is at the root of the problem it will push him to accept it), 2) I'm using Fontin & Fontin Sans by Jos Buivenga (a high quality free font) and the ligatures/alternate characters
sometimes don't show correctly when printed (replaced by a ?) or viewed on another computer without the font.
Yes, I embed the images into the ID document (Links - embed images). This is only because my project manager insists on this as well. It is unnecessary to do this when saving to a .pdf, correct?
Here are the settings I generally use when exporting a pdf to send to the printer (who do not specify any kind of settings):

  • Error rendering raster image in OracleAS MapViewer Version: Ver1033p5_B0810

We have installed Oracle 10g and are in the process of testing it. I've loaded a raster image into MapBuilder and created a table, theme, and base map. The theme and base map display fine in MapBuilder 10.1.3.3 patch 5, but when I try to display it in MapViewer I get the error show in ftp://ftp.mdt.mt.gov/download/raster_error.png.
I've created a datasource to the 10g database, and a map tile layer for the raster base map. MapTileLayer1.png and
MapTileLayer2.png on the ftp site identified above show basic settings and coordinate system definition for the tile layer.
Can anyone suggest why this error is occurring and what I can do to correct the problem. Thanks.

I have solved this problem. When I created the theme in MapBuilder I set the srid to 262148, but in MapViewer I set it to 41079. Once I fixed this the raster image display fine :(

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • Raster image into vector circles

Is there a way of converting a raster image into circle vectors of various sizes so that it is similar with effect of pixelation.
I need to transfer the circles into autocad so i need it in vector format. Thanks.

    Hi a-Li,
to set the logging level to "finest" in MapViewer.
    1) Edit the configuration file mapViewerConfig.xml located in MapViewer's WEB-INF/conf directory. Uncomment the Logging Settings section and update the parameter log_level to finest.
        <logging log_level="finest" log_thread_name="false"
                 log_time="true">
           <log_output name="System.err" />
           <log_output name="../log/mapviewer.log" />
</logging>2) Save the configuration file and restart MapViewer.
    3) Got to MapViewer's web admin page and add the data source to your data.
    4) Go to MapViewer's request web page and execute you request. You should see the log results in the console where you started OC4J (assuming you are using the standalone OC4J). Post the log.

  • Why does Fw 9 lighten raster images upon import?

Every time i import, open, cut and paste, or drag and drop, a
raster image from photoshop or from it's original file into
Fireworks it is lighter when it gets to fireworks? optimizing does
nothing. i have to adjust the levels on any raster image once it is
in fireworks and this is costing me a lot of time since i have
already perfected the images in photoshop.
    Anyone have this problem?

  • Raster image in Illustrator

I am currently using Illustrator CS4 on Windowd XP.
I am reasonably new to Illustrator having been a Corel user for the last 10 years, so I apologise if this is a simple request.
I have imported a raster image into illustrator and I would like to know the properties of it (ie dpi)
Is there a way of doing this in Illustrator (ie properties box that exists in Corel)
    Thanks

    Hi Larry,

Open the Document Info panel from Window>Document Info. Select the raster
image. From the flyout menu (upper right) select Embedded (or Linked)
images from the dropdown. This will list all the info on size, type and
    ppi of the raster image.

  • What raw raster image format in pdf ?

    hello,
I understood  from "image xobject in pdf" question from bokhandbok that  an xobject image can be either a jpeg  or a raw raster  format.
But to me,  raw is not a standardized format like DNG or tiff/ep are.
so, where can i find a description of the raw raster image format of the pdf ?
is it related to any existing norms like iso 12234-2, dng, etc.
if not, where can i find a description of this format ?
    thanks a lot,
    denis

No, an image expects raw bitmap data in the format defined by the PDF Reference.
However, an image is stored as a stream, and a stream can have a filter applied. There are many possible filters and one is DCTDecode, which roughly corresponds to a "JPEG file".
So, an image with JPEG file data and the DCTDecode filter can work.
"Raw" is a convenient way to talk about "uncompressed image data" but you are right that it is not a standard. Fortunately, PDF is well standardised and precisely described in ISO 32000-1.

  • Can I capture a still image from a quicktime movie?

Can I capture a still image from a quicktime movie?

Yes. But how you do it depends on your version of quicktime.
If you have the pro version, you can easily use the "Export" option to output the video as a series of images.
For the basic version of quicktime, or if you want to quickly take make a still image of a single frame, you could just use the "Grab" application in OSX to take a screen shot.
