Capturing a region of the screen

Hi.
I would like to present the user with a fixed-size rectangle which can be moved across the screen with the mouse, and then, when the mouse button is clicked, capture the region of the screen contained within the rectangle and save it to a file. I've got the capture-to-file problem solved, but still don't know how to alow the user to move a rectangle with the mouse.

You can't without some native code, or maybe the Skin L&F (www.l2fprod.com) which I believe supports transparent windows. There is some code out their that uses Java without those things, but I don't believe it would work without looking bad.

Capturing a portion of the screen with w/ com+sft+3

Last night while doing one of the screen captures I do all the time, I suddenly got a little cross hair icon and found I was able to select a portion of the screen to capture. I had never seen this before and certainly didn't do anything different than I usually do (at least not knowingly). I did a few times and it was great. This morning I tried to recreate the ability but am unable to. Does anyone know what may have allowed this? I can't think why it would do that out of nowhere. It's a nice feature and would like to be able to use it again.

Does anyone want to make me feel more silly by telling me that the feature has been there for years and years? =)Sure. I believe it's been there since OS 7 or OS 8.

White region in the screen

Hi all,
I am noticing that when I am opening and closing the lid of my t400... there is a zone on the screen which seems to be like glowing (like when you touch the screen by the finger, but without touching it) and after some time this area has become whiter and in the center there is a white pixel.
I am wondering whether is worth to take to the warranty for this and for how many days they will take the whole notebook to fix it.

Why can I not access the scroll up arrow or anything in that upper region of the screen with my cursor. I dont have that problem if I use internet explorer.

i should clarify that I can see that region, I just can't get the cursor to click on anything there.

Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.

Can I capture the screen using Premiere 11?

Hi guys
I was thinking of doing a short training video regarding some software and the settings.
I wanted to capture what appeared on the screen and add it to imported movie clips.
Is it possible to capture Windows screen activity in Premiere 11 - or can you recommend a good HD screen capture program?

Rasterized regions in the Flattener Preview

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know how I can programmatically find the regions that will be rasterized during the flattening process for output to EPS?
Within InDesign when you have a document open, if you navigate to the menu Window -> Output -> Flattener Preview to make sure the flattener preview is enabled, and you set it to highlight 'All Rasterized Regions' then it will show the parts of the document that will be flattened to a bitmap during output. For example if you have a drop shadow on some text, then the drop shadow part will be rasterized and when highlighting rasterized regions on the screen, the drop shadow will be highlighted in red. However I cannot work out how to get at this information from within my own plugin.
The reason I want this, is to include correct transparency information in preview thumbails created by SnapshotUtils. I know that by necessity the rasterized regions of the final postscript cannot be transparent, but if I use SnapshotUtils to create a preview image with transparency, it will show the rasterized regions as being transparent when they really are not. Obviously it would be better for me if SnapshotUtils marked the rasterized regions as not transparent, but I am happy to do this myself, it is just that I cannot work out how to find the geometry of the rasterized regions.
Does anyone have any ideas about how this could be done?

BINGO! That worked. I drew a solid object and set it's color to a percentage, refreshed my Flattener Preview and behold selections in my Highlights drop down. Now I can see those hidden outlines in my artwork.

Pressure sensitivity uneven on different areas of the screen

Just upgraded my x230t to win8. After much trial and error I finally got the pen to have very little pressure sensitivity by increasing the hardness of the pen tip to full in the pen settings (control panel). But I am not sure if this is pressure sensitivity. The problem now is that I get thin light lines in the middle of the screen but hard dark lines after the middle region of the screen when drawing with the same pressure. And its the same regions even if i move the canvas. I have attatched a screen shot too. Could it be my screen or my digitizer? I am confused...... please help.
The lines on the attached pic is drawn with equal pressure.

The conditions of the experiment are not evidence. It is impossible to draw freehand lines with equal pressure on the entire surface of the canvas. You may have to retry using a ruler, in tablet mode, the side of your hand (don’t forget to put on a thin glove) sliding onto the screen.
Example with my X220t in ArtRage Studio. I used the ruler stencil. (Highly compressed jpeg image):

Detecting clicks over a particular region in the frame

I need to detect whether te user clicked over a particular region in my frame.. something delimited by a poligon... or something like that..

Thx for your attention but in this case it wont work 'cause.. I didnt mention but there will be several images in the screen... getPixelColor will return black regardless of what image I clicked on.
What I really needed is detecting the click over a particular region in the screen!

You can also use spotlight (Cmd + Space) to search for and start an app called Grab (or look in the Applications folder...). With this program you can capture a selection of the screen, a window, the whole screen and more. See menuoption Capture for these options.

Capturing Video to my final cut pro with lines showing up on the screen

I am capturing video to my computer using final cut pro and it looks like blinds on the screen. Two separate videos showing up in alternating lines. How can I fix it.

This sounds like dirty heads.
I'd first try cleaning them. Then recapture.
However -- when you say 'lines'... do you mean WIDE lines or like one pixel lines you can only see if you stop the video and look really close?

QuickTime version 10 can only record the entire screen.
10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 offer part of the screen recording.
