Capturing and Importing a DVD movie clip into iMovie

I am making a movie of my trip to Vegas.
I need to capture 20 seconds of video off of a DVD and
insert it into my home iMovie.
Any suggestions how to capture the clip, what format to save
it in and how to import it to the iMovie template?
Thanks in advance!

  • Error -2002 when importing quicktime movie clips into iMovie Project

When I import QuickTime movie clips into my project, the scroll bar fills about 1/3 of the way, and then I get this message:
Can't open file "DSCN0812.MOV"; skipping it and continuing. I CLICK "OK," and then this message appears:
    Error during import
The file could not be imported: (-2002)
This happens to every movie clip. Anyone have any idea what's happening here?
    Thanks!

I guess, you try to import 'moving images' from a still cam, right? these are in a codec (=mov is no format, just a container) , iM doesn't support. Use the free tool *Mpeg Streamclip* www.squared5.com to convert these files to 'dv stream' BEFORE importing to iMovie.

  • Uploading sony cybershot DSC-T7 movie clips into iMovie

I can import the movie clips from my Sony Cybershot DSC-T7 into iPhoto, and I can play the movies on my Mac. I can move still photos from that camera successfully into iMovie. That's the good news.
But every time I try to move a movie clip from my Sony Cybershot DSC-T7 into the area to create a new project, I get the RED flag.
I even went to an Apple store where they had a session on iMovie to sort it out. The Apple person guessed my inablity to import movie clips from the Sony camera was because my Sony doesn't have the right movie format. Apparently the only kinds of files that iMovie works with are MPEG-4, DV, or .mov files.
What movie format does the Sony Cybershot DSC-T7? If I can successfully hook up the camera via USB port, and can play the movie clips on my Mac, why can't I import them into iMovie?
My current backup measure is to take pictures while my movie clips are running, using the Apple-Shift-3 keys to create stills. But, hey, I want to work with the video stream!
Thanks for any help you can offer.

What movie format does the Sony Cybershot DSC-T7?
MPEG VX. If I remember correctly, this is a full-frame (VGA) of MPEG-1 with up to 30 fps in fine setting. Muxed formats (like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, VOD, TOD, MOD, FLASH, etc.) are not editable at the frame level and must be converted to a compression format that contain synchronized instances (i.e., frames) of audio and video data.
If I can successfully hook up the camera via USB port, and can play the movie clips on my Mac, why can't I import them into iMovie?
There are basically three levels of QT support for video files:
    1) PLAYBACK ONLY -- these files can be played back by QT applications but cannot be converted or edited.
    2) CONVERSION COMPATIBLE -- These files with play in QT applications and can be converted to "Fully" compatible QT compression formats but cannot be edited at the frame level.
    3) FULLY COMPATIBLE -- these files can be played, converted, and edited by QT applications.
Your video files are "Playback Only." If converted by a QT Application (like iMovie '06 or iTunes), they will lose their audio. They can, however, be converted to iMovie '08 import/edit compatible files by MPEG-based, third-party applications like MPEG Streamclip (free), iSquint (free), FFmpegX (donation ware), Visual Hub (pay ware), etc.

    Hi
Native Apple Mac can't do it. You need a program to back-code to streamingDV.
I use: Roxio Toast™ to do this

  • Help please! quality problems converting HDMI movie clips into iMovie mp4

I am importing HDMI movie clips from a canon powershot SX50HS camera into iMovie and building them into a single MP4 intended for YouTube.
The movie clips appear clear as a bell individually in iPhoto whatever size I enlarge them to on the screen but are horrendously blurred in the MP4 movie- especially text.
Help!!!! What am I doing wrong????

    Hi chrisluna123,
If you are not already doing so, you may want to try importing directly into iMovie from the camera. You may also want to test the "Analyze for stabilization after import” function on a shorter clip to see if that helps. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Why can't I import my ppt.mov file into iMovie?

I created a ppt movie, added music and now have a file that I want to import into iMovie. When I hit the browse button, my ppt.mov file shows up but it's light and I can't select it.

You can export from powerpoint as a MOV file. You must take care that Powerpoint does not add any extra tracks like a manual advance track. This would cause iMovie to not be able to edit it. There are several parameters you can change in the "Options" when exporting as a movie from PPT, but it is not obvious to me which of these might introduce the offending track.
The most straightforward way (or most likely to succeed) is to export from Powerpoint as photos. You can select it to Save as Photos as a series of JPEG images. These jpegs can then be imported into iPhoto for easy import into iMovie. You can add the music in iMovie as well.
I guess the question is, what are you adding in iMOvie? That might help us give better advice.
Also, if you use the iWork App "KeyNote", it gives you the option of exporting to QuickTime without a manual advance track.) Keynote can import PPT. If you do a lot of this, Keynote might be worth the money. Else, just import the photos.

im not an expert but you might need to search for a converter. or buy Final Cut Express which recognizes lots more formats but is a bit more complicated to use.

  • Can i imported real video player clips into iMovie, and if so how can i?

    (topic)

    Thanks for the advice.
I've actually downloaded and installed ffmpeg but the problem I'm experiencing now is that the videos do not convert. The program starts to work and then three seconds later I get the dialog box that says everything has been converted but the file created is 0KB and of course will not open.
Any ideas about what could be going wrong? I've attempted to convert the files to different formats and try converting different files as well. I still have the problem.
BTW, I'm just using iMovie to collect all my real videos together so that I can watch them as a DVD (for convenience). That's all.

  • Importing xbox 360 video clips into imovie 6.0.3sk

Hi, I have an xbox 360 that I would like to import some video clips off of onto my computer using imovie. I have a Powermac G4 with a dual 1.4 ghz cpu, 2 GB of RAM, and lots of HD disk space. I am using an ADS Pyro A/V link for capturing video. I have used this many times in imovie to capture video directly from a TV, VCR, DVD player, etc. For some reason when I hook up the cable from the xbox 360 to the Pyro (using either component connection or composite/RCA connection) and hit play in imovie to preview what's being converted, it can't process it. Sometimes it will show a bunch of pixelated squares, sometimes it won't show anything. Every once in a while it can process the sound, otherwise it doesn't show anything. After a few times, it says the pyro has been disconnected, although it obviously hasn't been. I've also tried directly importing without previewing it during the import, but that doesn't work either. I'm not sure if I need to set something a certain way? But I know you can import from the 360 because there are obviously many video clips floating around the internet taken straight from the xbox.
Anybody know anything about this or have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Nevermind...I figured it out. There is a little button on the video cable that toggles HDTV on or off. Apparently it has to be off. So if anyone else has this problem, hopefully they can learn from my mistake.

  • I have 3 consecutive movie clips that I am trying to drop into the drop zone but it only recognizes the first one and only produces the firts one in a DVD. How can I drop all three  movie clips into one drop zone

On IDVD, I have 3 consecutive movie clips that I am trying to drop into the drop zone to create a DVD but it only recognizes the first one I dropped and only produced the first one in a DVD. How can I drop all three  movie clips into one drop zone.

I have had some luck doing the following: Export each clip from imovie as a quicktime clip. Open iDVD and create a new project. Import a few stills into iDVD and then click on the button that gets created to get into the screen where the individual slides appear. Drag each quicktime into that screen and arrange in the order you want. You can then delete the stills. The button that appeared when you dropped in the stills will launch a complete show.

  • How to import 150 .mov (quicktime) clips into iMovie '11?

    Hello,
Newbie to iMovie and having some trouble.  My wedding videographer took off with my wedding footage (and the footage of 100 other couples.)  Through the police and some of my own detective work, I was able to seize my wedding footage and have it on an external hard drive.  I have already spent thousands of dollars trying to recoup my footage and now that I finally have it, I don't have the extra money to have it made into an actual movie/dvd.
All of the more than 150 clips are in .mov format and I am unable to import them into iMovie that way.  Any ideas on how to convert that many HD clips into a file that iMovie will recognize without losing video quality & sound?
    For tech info:
    iMac 10.8.3
    iMovie '11
    Clip Info:
    Dimensions: 1920x1080
    Codecs: H.264, Linear PCM
    Color Profile: 1-1-6
    Audio Channels: 2
Thanks for your help!  This community is a great amazing resource and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to offer suggestions.
    Katie

I did it!  I realized after 2 hours of it not working, that I was doing it 1 step wrong.  I was trying to import the actual file with all the clips, rather than just the clips themselves...  Silly error, and the import of .mov files into iMovie was seemelss..  Quality is great and didn't take long.  Thanks again.

    Hi
Do You mean miniDV tape (interlaced video PAL or NTSC) ?
If so - iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not tools of Choise if You want a DVD as result - They all discards every second line resulting in less quality.
Sync. Problem - If miniDV tape - How was it recorded -
Audio mode - Is Camera set to record in 12-bit 32kHz - Should be 16-bit 48kHz
Recording mode - SP (60 min on a 60 min tape) or LP (90 min on 60 min tape)
If LP-mode - Then You need - Same Camera as recorded - tolerances is to small even for a Camera of same brand and type to play-back.
I would use FinalCut Express and a setting of PAL/N TSC and 32kHz audio if Camera is set to record in 12-bit
If LP-mode - iMovie HD6 is more tolerant in Captuing than FinalCut and Imediatly after Import/Capture - Extract Audio
And set iM HD6 to NOT IMPORT AS INDIVIDUAL Clips - to many drop outs to work.

  • I imported an hour of video into iMovie HD and cut it down to a 33 sec clip, and emptied the trash.  When I save the project, the file size is 20Gb.  How can I save just the 33 sec clip?

I imported an hour of video into iMovie HD and cut it down to a 33 sec clip, and emptied the trash.  When I save the project, the file size is 20Gb.  How can I save just the 33 sec clip?

Non-destructive editing is an important feature of iMovie HD 6.
iMovie preserves the entire copy of every clip you place into your movie in case you change your mind at a later stage.
So, if you have cut out one minute from a 45 minute clip, iMovie will have stored two complete copies of that clip. This is why is helps to set import as 3-5 minute clips rather than one huge chunk. As DV runs at 13GB per hour your project files can get very big.
One workaround is to complete the editing of a section of the movie, then export that to Quicktime: highlight the clip/s, choose Share-Quicktime, turn on Share selected clips only, and choose Full Quality from the pop-ip menu.
Once you have saved the stand-alone clip to your hard drive, you can re-import it into your project using the File/Import command, and delete the original long clip/s from the project.

  • Importing MOV clips into Premier Elements 10

I'm trying to import Qucktime MOV clips into Adobe Premier Elements 10 but they install as audio files only. How can I get them to load as video clips so I can construct a movie from them?

    Hi
I'm using a Mobius 1080p HD camera shooting in HD producing MOV files.
I've inspected one of the files using Quicktime/Windows and the information is
    Format - H.264. 1920 x 1080. Millions 16 bit Integer (Little Endian). Mono. 32.000 Htz
    Movie FPS = 30.00
    Playing FPS = 30.00
    Data Size 401.47 MB
    Data Rate 18.19 mbits/sec
    Duration 00.03.05.00
    Normal Size 1920 x 1080 pixels
    Current Size 1920 x 1080 pixels
The clips play in excellent quality HD and without a problem in Windows Media Player
I have reformated some in MP4 format and they will play back in Premier Elements after a fashion.. but very slow and jerky making editing just about impossible. I have reloaded Adobe Premier Elements on another computer but get the same results.
It appears Adobe Premier Elements is not up to dealing with these files.
