Capturing avchd on FCE4--''idle"?

hi...using FCE4 at work...most up to date version....trying to ingest avchd footage...using log and transfer...easy set up at HD 720p...in the capture window the clip plays fine, click ''add to queue" and it starts then stops and says ''idle" and I get no import.
have tried trashing pref's/restarting/etc etc and nothing seems to work
any ideas/advice out there?
thanks

What camera are you using?  The 720p30 setup is not a valid AVCHD format.

  • Capturing AVCHD Footage

Hello. I am trying to decide to buy a hard drive HD camera or a Digital Tape HD Camera. I do most of my editing on a PowerMac G5 that is not intel chip mac. I understand to capture avchd footage you need an intel chip mac. To get around that, I would capture the footage from the Hard Drive Camera using a Macbook that I have is an intel chip based machine, using final cut express. I would capture the footage onto an external hard drive. I would then connect that drive to my PowerMac G5, that again is not an intel chip mac. Would I be able to edit that footage using final cut express even though the PowerMac I edit on is not an intel chip mac?

    Yes.
Upon import, the AVCHD is converted to Apple Intermediate Codec. So after import, anything which can edit AIC will work.

  • Capturing  AVCHD files?

Will FCP 6 be able to capture AVCHD files? I have an HDV SD1 Panasonic HD camcorder that records onto the HCSD cards. I know that I can always use HDMI with the BMD Intensity card, but someone told me that with FCP6, I will be able to just import the files from the card into FCP.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    My email is: [email protected]
    Thank you in advance

at this point i'd be inclined to think not.
considering Sony's adoption of the codec one would have imaged that Apple would have announced support were it forthcoming
still, as Wes pointed out ... can't know for sure till it ships

  • HELP: AVCHD Log & Transfer idle problem for iMac 27"

I just bought an Apple iMac 27" but I cannot do a Log & Transfer.
I used the same SDHC card that I log & transfer succesfully in the old 24" iMac.
But when I did a Log & Transfer in the new 27" iMac, I got into this:
    1) FCE4 can detect the card & show all the thumbnails without problem.
    2) When I drag a clip into the bottom or click add to queue, it says transferring clip#6 .... but the progress bar didn't move ...
    3) after a while, it says 1 clip idle ....
what happen ? how come the clip#6 cannot be imported ? I tried all the clips, but faced with the same problem, it ended up says idle but nothing was transferred to the browser !!
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    ok guys,
    problem resolved by doing this:
    1) right click on the clip
    2) goto preference after right clicking on the clip
    3) Under AVCHD plugin > AC-3 > Plain Sound
I dunno why it works but after changing from the default Matrix Sound to Plain Sound, it can import so fast ! This new iMac 27" is so much faster than my old 24" iMac ...
If Matrix sound doesn't work why is it there in the first place ?
    Cheers

  • Capturing AVCHD straight to Final cut express

I have a Canon vixia HF10 camera that films in AVCHD. Mostly i have been importing to IMovie but I am trying to learn how to capture it straight into Final Cut Express. Any Help with how i can import the AVCHD files?

    Hi,
You need to plug in your camera to your Mac, turn on the camera, and then go to the Log and Transfer window under the File menu. Your camera will show up there with all your individual files. You can select which one (or even parts of the files) you want to import. It's pretty easy; I have the same camera. Bear in mind, you need to have shot your material in FXP (the highest quality HD) in order for FCE to import it (at least, that's what I've read, and I haven't bothered to test the lower quality stuff for importing). Hope this helps.

  • How to capture AVCHD on a G5?

  • How to import from desktop (file) avchd in FCE4.0.1

I copied from a camera onto my macbook avchd footage for later use in FCE4.
I used the importcommand log and transfer.
I have three maps; DCIM (empty), MISC (AUTPRINT.MRK) and PRIVATE with a lot of files.
I tried all the maps (or files in it) to drag into L&transfer but that does not work.
I am sure I am doing something wrong. How to import avchd footage in FCE?
    Thanks!
    Bruce.

Read the section in the manual on log and transfer. Once again you can NOT drag and drop to the log and transfer window.
If the application is crashing you have more serious problems.
Do NOT go inside the folder structure of the SD card. Select the top level of the folder structure. If that crashes the application, you should take your computer to an Apple service technician.
I'm assuming the the operating system was correctly installed, and the application was correctly installed from the disc in the Applications folder.

  • Problems with Log& capture AVCHD files in Final cut 7.0.3

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to log and capture a hole file of AVCDH (with several clips in it) in Final cut 7.0.3.
When I open the file final cut only detects have of the clips, the others are with duration: 0 and no content.
The first ones are succesfully transfered.
    Can anyone help me?
The files were recorded in AVCHD 1080p 50.
    Thanks.
    Raquel

That's why you can't convert...you are converting the supported frame rates.
yes, EditReady is TONS better. They are always on top of the latest AVCHD formats (every camera uses a different variant of AVCHD).  It used to be that they had two apps...EditReady for QT formats and  ClipWrap2 for AVCHD...but they have now rolled all of those features into EditReady...one app for everything. They have a free demo so you can try it and see for yourself.

  • For composite editing, does DVCPRO yield better quality than AVCHD in FCE4?

    Hi folks,
From what I understand, DVCPRO is much less compressed than AVCHD. If so, then, would it also be true that FCE4 would output a "cleaner" end product (i.e. for DVD, after undergoing significant composite editing/rendering) if I used DVCPRO rather than AVCHD? (It's my understanding that you should start with the highest quality... least compressed... raw footage as possible for composite editing).
Thanks, in advance, for your expertise!
    Vic

Panasonic does not make a camera with the HFC-150 model designation. Do you mean the AG HMC-150?
If so, the camera records AVCHD (which is a VERY highly compressed format) and which will need to be translated into AIC to run in FCE. AIC was designed to deal with long GOP formats starting with mpeg 2 HDV. Its great value is it translates that difficult to edit frame structure into an all "I" frame format. However, it was not the most graceful format for color detail.
Having said that, while the HMC-150 is capable of very good images, most consumer video is so badly recorded (really poor lighting, wandering auto white balance, wandering auto focus, hand shake, etc) there is no way one can tell what the camera is capable of let alone if one codec is better than another for output.
If you already have FCE, see what the material looks like. You may find it perfectly adequate, even splendid in telling your stories.
If you want to see other options, I believe Premiere has a trial version and Apple has a trial of FCX. Do your own A/B/C comparision.
    Have fun.

  • AVCHD and FCE4

Can anyone tell me the definite answer on whether the Panasonic HDC-SD5 is compatible with FCE4? I want to be able to plug and play, i.e. for FCE4 to recognise the camcorder as a drive when plugged in, and allow clips to be previewed in a folder and "imported". If not, which is the best AVCHD camcorder to get for compatibility? Thank you.

If the hdc-sd5 works fine does the hdc-sx5 work aswell? They are pretty much the same camcorder

  • Capturing AVCHD video from a Canon VIXIA HG21 camcorder to FCE 4.01

Video captured at the highest resolution MXP i60 seems to stutter after importing to FCE 4.01. I know that playback on a computer monitor will show these signs but after burning with iDVD and played on a TV set, it still is jerky when panning a moving image.
I've read most of the posts concerning this. I have read that FCE will only accept 29.97 frame rates in several posts and other posts show "i60 presets support both 60i and 29.97 frame rates".
I read where I should reset my FCE preferences but I don't seem to have any. I looked in Library Preferences and could not find a "com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist" or the "final Cut Express User Data" folder.
Sure could use some help from those who use that camcorder and FCE.

I also shoot and edit with the HG21 but haven't experienced any such problems. Do your sequence settings match your clip settings in every regard? You definitely shot in 60i and not 30p? Did you fully render your sequence before exporting?
I've found there's a lot of interlacing when panning quickly, but it hasn't been jerky for me. Does it appear this way on the camera too? It may have been that you did not pan smoothly enough (such as with a good tripod).

  • I have AVCHD in FCE4 now how do I export to DVD

Its getting late and im struggling. I have transfered the video from my Sony HDR-SR11 to FCE4 and can view the files. Can someone please tell me if I can get these HD files onto a DVD to view in 1080i?
Any help, tips or links would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Tom,
I can view in either as I have DVD players and a PS3 Blu-Ray player. So which ever offers the best playback quality really.
    Thanks for replying.

  • Capturing AVCHD Crashes FCP

I've been using the new Panasonic camera hmc 151 AVCHD. I've been using it fine at work without problem except I've found a problem with some footage settings and the Perian plugin.
I've taken some stuff home to work on but when I click on the 'add to queue' button in the L&T window, FCP just pooofs off the screen.
    Does it everytime without fail.
I want to post the log file but it's massive, before I do, any ideas?
    OSX 10.5.6
iMac 2.8 Ghz intel duo core
    FCP 6.0.3
    4 GB RAM
    QT 7.6.2

    hmmmm,
1920 by 1080 comes in fine but 1280 by 720 crashes FCP.
The clips play fine in the L&T window but won't transfer.

  • AVCHD Log & Transfer Captures First Half of Clip

I am using Log and Transfer in FCE 4 to capture AVCHD Lite files from my Panasonic DMC-ZS7. It brings in all of the clips, but only the 1st 1/2 of the clip. In other words, a 2 minute video clip results in a 1 minute clip imported. Ideas?
BTW, the same clips import perfectly into iMovie.

Tom, thanks for the information. I understand what you are saying from the technical point of view (which is apparently Apple's point of view too), but from a MARKETING perspective, as a consumer, it is annoying that I have to bring the AVCHD Lite files into iMovie, then import those files into FCE. Whatever iMovie is doing to convert those files into usable FCE files, FCE should be able to do on its own.

  • Dark capture in FCE4; fine in iMovie

    Hi,
I captured a clip using iMovie ('11) the other night.
I bought FCE4 last night and tried importing the same clip; it looked dark, so I compared the two, and sure enough, the FCE4 capture is darker and loses some detail in areas that detail is plainly obvious in the iMovie capture.
Tried searching around for a bit but haven't found anything, so I'm hoping this is a simple explanation...
    thanks!
    Andrew

+"If your media is DV you need to look at it on a video monitor."+
I don't understand (assuming capture format is identical) why the relative visible difference on the same monitor wouldn't be relevant. Maybe in the way each program displays video?
    See below...
+"You cannot assess it on a computer screen. Side-by-side how? Where? In the QT player? "+
Sure I can. Doesn't mean it's accurate Yes, side-by-side, one capture visible in FCE4, the other in iMovie '11.
I did not try opening each clip in Quicktime side-by-side.
    thanks,
    A.
