Capturing DHCP Assignments to IP Addresses

I am running MARS 6 software. While I am getting a lot of operational value, I still have a lot of setup questions.
Today it is if MARS tracks the DHCP assignments. We use Active Directory for our dynamic devices, and of course DHCP to get addresses assigned to individual machines.
Does MARS have the ability to track the DHCP assignments and update the host names assigned to IP addresses? I have not, yet, had the Windows admins start SNARE on the AD servers yet, will that provide the DHCP information?

I don't think there is any automatical way to control the DHCP change. A few solutions could be:
User a higher DHCP lease.
Delete the dynamically learnt hosts in MARS manually to force it to re-learn.
I would love to hear better solutions myself, we face the same issue here.

Farrukh

  • All STATIC DHCP Assignments wiped out

    Out of the clear blue sky, my Verizon Fios Router (the new Gateway G1100) suddenly had none of my static DHCP Assignments.  They all vanished!  I have no idea how, but on January 3rd, I had a fully functioning router with everything set the way I want, and I had a backup of the settings.
    Today, I'm trying to remote in to some PCs on my lan and their not responding.  Well of course they're not, they have new IP addresses assigned dynamically because my entire address reservation entries were gone!
    What the hell?  Best guess I have is VERIZON pushed a firmware update that screwed me and never told me.  The fact they can push updates at their whim kills me!  I'm stable, don't push me jack S%$#.  Don't fix what isn't broken.  Notify me, let me opt in!!!!
    I'm so hating my switch to verizon!
    Has anyone else had this happen?

    Verizon is pushing a firmware update to the Quantum routers.  It adds useful functionality to the router.  See this thread for the details:
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Fios-Quantum-Gateway-1-1-Enhancements/m-p/774233#M54060
    My router was updated yesterday.  Unfortunately, my router lost it's static DHCP assignments as well.  I had even saved my router config prior to the upgrade as I was concerned about loosing my settings.  A restore of the router config after the update did not recover my static DHCP settings.  I'm not sure what else wasn't restored.
    While I do like the improved features that the new firmware provides (Guest WiFi is a big deal for me), I too am disappointed in how this upgrade cleared out some settings and how we users have no control over the process.  I've heard that we're supposed to receive an email about the upgrade, but I never got one.
    Good Luck.

  • EA6500 DHCP assignments: Less capable than E4200?

    I'm upgrading from an E4200 to an EA6500, and I'm having some dfificulty with DHCP assignments.
    On the E4200, I was able to designate a first address range for DHCP assignments (e.g., start at 192.168.0.100 and reserve 50 addresses for devices), and also reserve some addresses for recognized MACs. However, those two settings had nothing to do wtih each other: I could reserve any address I wanted for any MAC.
    On the EA6500, these two features are implemented differently. Apparently, static, reserved DHCP for specific MACs *MUST* be in the range of assignable DHCP addresses. So if I designate 192.168.0.100 as the starting DHCP address and reserve 50 addresses, all of my DHCP reservations must also be in the range of 192.168.0.100-150.
    This is ridiculous! This requirement forces a commingling of static DHCP addresses for recognized devices with known MACs, and dynamic DHCP addresses for unrecognized devices that are permitted onto the network.
    I can think of three explanations:
    1) This requirement is a rookie mistake by the developers who implemented DHCP on the EA6500.
    2) The permissiveness of the DHCP settings on the E4200 was a loophole that was intentionally closed on the EA6500.
    3) The EA6500 implements static DCHP assignments differently, in some way that I haven't yet discovered.
    Thoughts? Any help? Any hope of having a future firmware update for the EA6500 revert to the E4200 behavior?

  • ERROR: Your web form must capture customer name and email address.

    Hi,
    I keep receiving this error message when trying to checkout and submit a payment.
    ERROR: An error occurred. Your web form must capture customer name and email address. Please fix this issue and re-insert your web form on your web page.
    The strange thing is it's only happening in chrome. It works perfectly in IE and firefox, the form submits and takes me to the order confirmation page. I've tested it on multiple PCs so it's definitely a chrome issue. Does anyone have any advice as to what could be causing this issue with chrome?
    Thanks,
    Pete

    Check your eCommerce web form in the admin has the ID - 211729
    This is what the form ID is, if you have deleted it and made a new one it will not Marry up
    The things you normally look for with this error is The first name and last name along with email fields have the right ID and name parameters on the input. The javascript is picking those up so it looks like that is working.
    So next is the form in the admin marrying up with the form on the page or in this case the Registration Buy layout.

  • Suse 9 oracle 10g installation DHCP-assigned public IP addresses problem

    Hi,
    I got below error when I have tried to install Oracle 10gR2.
    I have checked # hostname, it is Ok. I setup network to use static Ip.
    I checked /etc/hosts. Does oracle get hostname another file?
    How can I solve my problem.
    Thanks.
    Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with
    DHCP-assigned public IP addresses. However, the primary network
    interface on the system should be configured with a static IP
    address in order for the Oracle Software to function properly.
    See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the
    software on systems configured with DHCP.

    Hostname command should return the fully qualified hostname as shown below:
    % hostname
    hostname.domainname

  • DHCP and Pointers for Addresses Not Released

    I was aksed to see if there could be anything to fix this:
    Our DHCP hands out new IPs within a 24 hour period.
    The Macs in our mixed environment ( 300 PCs, 52 Macs)
    will get assigned an IP Address, and then keep it for the day, and in the morning release and get a new one at boot.
    HOWEVER, according to the DHCP server, the IP address
    still "points" to the Mac, and thus the DHCP server
    thinks its in use.
    Our IS department is convinced its a Mac problem,
    and there has to be some way to make the Macs
    release address, and tell the server its released
    that address, so that the Server can re-assign
    the address down the line.
    I personally do not think so, I think it is something
    on the DHCP server's end, but I'm not sure.
    Any help on this or insight or general theorizing
    would be helpful. I have also posted this over in
    microsoft.public.windows.server.dns,
    if this post seems familiar....

    Backing up a bit - what is the actual problem leading
    to this investigation? A DHCP server keeps a database
    of pairings of IP addresses with MAC addresses (not
    Macintosh addresses). It should automatically prevent
    any MAC address from consuming more than one IP
    address.
    Most likely it is the fact that we have close to 400 total computers on site, and that we only have a limited available blocks
    of IP addresses ( ranges 10.0.0.x, 10.0.1.x, and 10.0.2.x), and although at any given time not all 400 total computers
    are on the network ( people out of house, some only go online
    when necessary for updates etc), the fact that the DNS pointers keep saying that, for instance that an imac
    on my desk is using 10.0.1.174, and that the DNS server is
    saying that it should also be 10.0.1.146 ( which it had yesterday) as well as 10.0.1.174, but since the DNS server thinks
    that 10.0.1.146 is still validily assigned, then it won't release this address, and thus on the PC side, they cannot
    get the address 10.0.1.146, hich then causes a shortage of addresses.
    I hope I explained that the best way possible; to me, it seems like it should be an easily fixed cache problem, if a cache exists for the DNS pointers, that it could be
    regualrly dumped?

  • How do i fix the "web form must capture customer name and email address" error?

    Hi all,
    I have a webform that is submitting securely to the bc servers. I get the response:
    {"SystemMessage": { "success": False, "message": "ERROR: An error occurred. Your web form must capture customer name and email address. Please fix this issue and re-insert your web form on your web page." }}
    I have verified that the "FirstName","LastName","EmailAddress" are actually gettting sent with their corresponding values. I can't seem to figure out why i keep getting this error. Can someone please lend a helping hand?!? Thanks guys... here's my code:
    var rAction = 'https://site.worldsecuresystems.com/FormProcessv2.aspx?WebFormID=85886&OID={module_oid}&OTYPE={module_otype}&EID={module_eid}&CID={module_cid}&CC={module_urlcountryc ode}&Referrer={module_siteurl,true,true}&JSON=1';
    var rData = 'FirstName='+escape(fName.val())+'&LastName='+escape(lName.val())+'&EmailAddress='+escape (email.val())+'&Username='+escape(username.val())+'&Password='+escape(passwd.val())+'&Pass wordConfirm='+escape(passwd2.val())+'&BillingAddress='+escape(baddress.val())+'&BillingCit y='+escape(bcity.val())+'&BillingState='+escape(bstate.val())+'&BillingZip='+escape(bzip.v al())+'&PaymentMethodType='+escape(paymentMethodType)+'&CardName='+escape(cName.val())+'&C ardNumber='+escape(cNum.val())+'&CardExpiryMonth='+escape(expMonth)+'&CardExpiryYear='+esc ape(expYear)+'&CardType='+escape(cType)+'&CardCCV='+escape(ccv.val())
    $.ajax({
    type: 'POST',
    url: rAction,
    data: rData,
    success: function(msg){
    console.log('success');
    $('#result').html(msg);
    error: function(msg){
    console.log('error');
    $('#result').html(msg);

    Ok -- after testing this out a little on my own I think it must have to do with not properly serialzing the data you are passing in the ajax function.  In the example I linked to earlier they are just serialzing the form data and it works because it converts the data in the form's input fields to URL encoded notation.
    If you aren't using an actual form on your site to mimick the example I linked to then when building your "rData" string instead of using the "escape" function for each of the parameter values, you should be using the "encodeURIComponent" function instead which instead of escaping characters will convert it to URL encoded notation.  That's probably your issue. Here's more about encodeURIComponent(): http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_encodeURIComponent.asp
    Try this with the rData variable instead:
    var rData = 'FirstName='+encodeURIComponent(fName.val())+'&LastName='+encodeURIComponent(lName.val()) +'&EmailAddress='+encodeURIComponent(email.val())+'&Username='+encodeURIComponent(username .val())+'&Password='+encodeURIComponent(passwd.val())+'&PasswordConfirm='+encodeURICompone nt(passwd2.val())+'&BillingAddress='+encodeURIComponent(baddress.val())+'&BillingCity='+en codeURIComponent(bcity.val())+'&BillingState='+encodeURIComponent(bstate.val())+'&BillingZ ip='+encodeURIComponent(bzip.val())+'&PaymentMethodType='+encodeURIComponent(paymentMethod Type)+'&CardName='+encodeURIComponent(cName.val())+'&CardNumber='+encodeURIComponent(cNum. val())+'&CardExpiryMonth='+encodeURIComponent(expMonth)+'&CardExpiryYear='+encodeURICompon ent(expYear)+'&CardType='+encodeURIComponent(cType)+'&CardCCV='+encodeURIComponent(ccv.val ())

  • Switches that do dhcp relay (ip helper address)

    Hi all,
    I'm looking at this switch the 1810 24g and I was wondering whether it dose dhcp relay (ip helper address) ie forward dhcp addresses from the dhcp server to the switch?
    Many thanks
    Rob

    Hi,
    on all the vlan interfaces where the DHCP server doesn't reside you must configure
    interface Vlan
    description Client VLAN
    ip helper-address
    When a client now sends DHCP request, the router
    forwards this request to the ip helper-address.
    Because the router also puts in its own interface ip address as source ip, the packet finds the way back.
    DHCP uses UDP port 67 and 68. With the command ip helper-address, there are also some other ports which are opened for udp. To close this ports you configure (global command)
    no ip forward-protocol udp tftp
    no ip forward-protocol udp nameserver
    no ip forward-protocol udp domain
    no ip forward-protocol udp time
    no ip forward-protocol udp netbios-ns
    no ip forward-protocol udp netbios-dgm
    no ip forward-protocol udp tacacs
    On your DHCP Server you have to configure a scope for each ip subnet.
    If your dhcp server is located at ther server vlan, do NOT configure a helper-address there.
    For the migration I would suggest to use two different ip subnets. Image all your clients are now in VLAN2 10.2.0.0/16. If you have this IP subnet on your Router you can't add a new VLAN with 10.2.1.0/24, because this overlaps.
    So make the new VLANs with 10.3.1.0/24, 10.3.2.0/24, ... and move the clients to the new
    vlans by change the vlan of the port where the PC is conneted to. When you then reboot the PC it shoud get a new ip from the dhcp and everything sould be fine.
    Bye
    Jo

  • M93p AMT not recognizing DHCP or static IPv4 address

    Hello,
    We recently bought 3 M93p 10AB0010US systems for a pilot, with the potential to buy 350. One of our requirements is functioning Intel AMT. We are currently using M92p systems with Intel AMT v8.x with no issues.
    The M93p uses Intel AMT v9. When configured to use DHCP and share the FQDN with the host, Intel AMT communicates with the Intel Management and Security Application Local Management Service to identify the DHCP IP address and configure AMT with it.
    This is where the problem seems to be. According to the status applet within Windows, the Link Status is "Link Up", the MAC address listed is correct, the IPv4 Mode is "DHCP", but the IP address listed is 0.0.0.0. On the local system, I can bring up the web UI for AMT and access (guessing it is using the loopback adapter?), but it is not accessible remotely because AMT is not intercepting the 16992 traffic targeting the DHCP address.
    Initial, unsecure configuration is being done using a USB key configured with Intel SCS 8.2. It is the same config we used for AMT v8 devices, and seemingly works as the web UI is accessible, just not remotely due to the DHCP issue.
    Any ideas? This obstacle is potentially preventing us from doing a pretty big hardware upgrade until we can resolve it.

    Hallo, wir haben genau das selbe Problem. 2 Systeme M93p gleiche Problematik.

  • DHCP Self-Assigned IP Address: No Cable Connection to Router Problem

    Hi. I work in different office environments. At home with Time Machine and wireless everything works fine and I can connect to internet and work wireless and also with cable.
    In the office _I need to use the cable_ to connect to a dlink router:
    I CANNOT CONNECT WITH CABLE but wireless works.
    I set MacBook Airport/Ethernet config to "using DHCP": wireless connects, cable pulls some IP address but none of the assigned router IP addresses.
    Tried:
    deleting Ethernet connection, rebooting
    rebooting router
    manually setting IP address: effect: it says "connected" but no internet/ping possible
    setting a predifined IP address in the router: no effect
    Please, I hope someone could help.
    Thank you

    I think you are right that the problem is some combination of software (Leopard) and hardware. At first, I thought it was just the MacBook Pro (or some models of it since obviously not everyone seems to have the problem and Apple is not publicly acknowledging it. I have been working with a friend who has a Verizon home network using their wireless router from Actiontec. At my house, all three of my Macs, a G4 desktop, a G4 iBook and a G3 iBook all running 10.4.11 Tiger all work flawlessly with Verizon FIOS using the same router as my friend's. And, at his house, my G4 iBook also works fine wirelessly. So, too, does his wife's MacBook (not sure which model but bought within the year). But, my friend's MacBook Pro will NOT access the Internet wirelessly, but works just fine as long as it is connected with an ethernet cable.
    So, it is not the router that is the problem, and it is not that portion of the Leopard OS that obtaines a DNS server from Verizon since the MB Pro can do this with a hardwire connection. It appears to be something in the combination of that portion of Leopard's OS that deals wirelessly with the router -- and not ALL routers either because this same MB Pro CAN use a Verizon DSL modem wirelessly at another location!
    We have, of course, tried everything to get this to work, and read extensively online trying to find an answer. There are no answers online, at least as far as we have explored. So, we are off to the Apple Store shortly to see if their Geniuses have something more profound to tell us that they have been keeping secret from the world as to how to make this thing work. If they fix it, I will insist they say how, and why they have not made the fix public; if it is a hardware problem, as I suspect it is, then they need to announce a recall of this model MacBook Pro.
    What still leaves me mystified is why YOU have a very similar problem not getting on the internet, yet all software indications are that you are in contact with your Verizon router with MACBOOK!
    One more thing: I believe the problem is really with the airport card in some Macs, pro or otherwise. The software in the OS is telling us users that there is a live signal being received by the computer when it isn't. E.g. I tried to access friend's router via the 192.16.1.1 address in a browser; no go, so there in fact is no wireless connection even though I am being told there is; however, I still do not understand why the Airport menubar menu indicates the correct router ID (name) shows in it!

  • DHCP assignments and AP Groups

    I am having an issue in which I have AP Groups working perfectly fine, but when a client moves from one building to another the DHCP assignment of the "first" AP Group is retained when the user accesses AP's assigned to another AP Group.
    For example, Laptop1 has an address of 10.2.1.110 in AP Group1. When the user moves to an AP in Group2, the Laptop1 retains the 10.2.1.110 instead of getting a new address from Group2.
    Traffic still works perfectly, but I need them to inherit the IP sheme of the AP Group they've moved into (application requirements).
    Our setup is very similar to this document: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a008073c723.shtml#configs
    We have a 4402 controller with 37 1131 AP's. All AP's are assigned an AP group in their respective buildings and the VLAN DHCP and traffic works perfectly fine in each.
    DHCP services are provided by a Windows 2003 server as both wired and wireless clients are required to be in the same subnet for application purposes.
    The controller and AP's are in native VLAN 10.
    I'd appreciate any assistance in determining why the controller or DHCP server is not recognizing the subnet change for the client.

    This is normal behavior as long as the client can roam from an ap on AP Group1 to an ap on AP Group2. If you want the device to reassociate from one building to another, then you have to put the ap's on a different WLC with a different mobility group name. If all ap's are on the same mobility group, then you will have the seamless roaming like what you are seeing.

  • WRVS4400N : DHCP not assigning IP addresses if WAN link is down

    Hello,
    With the latest firmware installed (the one suporting fixed IP based on MAC), I have one problem: the DHCP server is not assigning addresses when the WAN link is down. When it is up, it generally assign IP based on the configuration binding (MAC/IP). But it sometimes fail to do so. Before using the wrvs4400n I had no issues with DHCP wrt54G and other routers.
    Any hints ?
    Thanks.

    Hi there!
    Thanks for contacting the business support - other guys got the same problem.
    I'm now back on firmware version 1.00.16 and everything works fine.
    But the new features were nice to have!

    Hi, You have some mistakes on your configuration.
    1- bridge-group 1 has to be under the dot11 radio 0.1 interface and not under the dot11radio 0 interface
    2- ip nat inside has to be only under bvi 1 and not anywhere else.
    I will paste for you your modified router config.
    give it a shot.

  • DHCP getting self IP address and manually too has no response.

    I have 13" White MacBook Pro didn't  get an IP via DHCP from my USB Modem. It gives the self assigned IP 169.254.X.X. and manually too not working. Please help me what should i do for my internet connection.

    There's no common issue.
    All a self-assigned IP address means is that DHCP did not assign you an IP address.
    This can occur for a variety reasons, from the DHCP server only issuing one address per network (many DSL modems do this) to running out of addresses (many cable modems will issue up to five but no more, and many routers will not issue more than ten.)
    The brute force fix attempt is, as mentioned above, to power off your Macs and other machines, power off the router, then power off the DSL or cable modem. Wait a minute, then power them up in reverse order (DSL/Cable modem, then a minute later the router, then a minute later your PCs/Macs.)

  • DHCP still giving out addresses to clients on the Deny filter

    My DHCP server is handing out addresses to clients that I have put on the deny list. The "Enable Deny List" is checked. Its not to every client either. It is just a handful that keeps popping back. What am I missing?

    Hi Alphateam,
    Have you confirmed that the deny is on all interfaces, wired and wireless of said machines.
