Capturing DVCPro50 SDI using Laptop

I am looking to share information about capturing SDI video using a Laptop. I am using a MacPro 15" laptop with OS X(10.5.1).

The Motu V4HD will also capture SDI. Motu's products are often overlooked around here.
You could also look into an expansion chassis option that will allow the use of pci architecture. The Magma products are bullet proof. http://www.magma.com/products/pci/index.html

J-30 Capture problems SDI / FW

I have a J-30 deck which I usually capture and control via my AJA Io using SDI.
This always works fine and is my usual method of capture to an external G-Raid 1 Ter drive.
Today I thought I'd try and use the F/W option to capture from the deck direct to my G5 and of course use the F/W to control the device.
On occasion I would get a warning that "Capture encountered a problem with the data on tape"
I tried doing the same capture a few times with the same error message at the same point.
I then tried capturing using SDI and RS-422 control, at which point it all worked perfectly.
Having checked the tape it seems that there may be a slight T/C break at that point, (1 or 2 fields,) and this would appear to be a point where the camera was switched off - although I usually backspace the camera to avoid these sort of issues.
I'm curious as to why the RS-422 control accepts this and the F/W does not.
I think it's the discrepancy netween the SDI capture working and the F/W not working at this pont on the tape that bugs me the most.
Is T/C on F/W less forgiving when there is a very slight break?
I have the RS-422 device setting to accept LTC and VITC whereas I don't have this option on F/W control.
At the moment I have all the boxes ticked in User Preferences for aborting on dropped frames etc. I also have "make new clip on T/C break" ticked.
How might I stop the error message without risking bad capture or problems with recapturing the same material when I on-line later.
To be honest, with my current system I only capture via SDI so it's not a problem - but I hope to capture via the F/W socket to a laptop in the future and it would be nicer to have an easier ride...
Capturing at all times to PAL DV and I'm cutting with FCP HD. Trashed all preferences, cleaned heads etc...

yes, the discrepancy is darn annoying.
deck control via firewire is not as accurate as deck control via RS-422, for example, you can do a frame accurate insert with rs422 control, but you can't guarantee frame accurate with firewire.
for capture over firewire that means that it's going to be a little more sensitive to any weakness in the t/c signal throughout the tape (but particularly in the preroll and postroll area)
your only option, if you must capture via firewire, is to dub any problem source tapes on to new tapes striping new tc.

Unable to capture C drive using Dism and imageX commands

I am trying to capture C drive using dism command but it did not work, but the same command is capturing E drive. i am using following command.
dism /Capture-Image /ImageFile:E:\image.wim /CaptureDir:C:\ /name:"Image File"
I am getting following error.

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log
An in the log file the error is: DISM DISM.EXE: WimManager processed the command line but failed. HRESULT=80070020

As far as I know, Dism command doesn't support hot image backup, that to say, you do need to complete the image backup job at Windows PE enviroment.

Capture an image using the web camera from a web application

Hi All,
Could anyone please share the steps what have to be followed for capture an image using the web camera from a web application.
I have a similar requirement like this,
1) Detect the Webcam on the users machine from the web application.(To be more clear when the user clicks on 'Add Photo' tool from the web application)
2) When the user confirms to save, save the Image in users machine at some temporary location with some unique file name.
3) Upload the Image to the server from the temporary location.
Please share the details like, what can be used and how it can be used etc...

You'd have to somehow create a JMF web-start application that will install the native JMF binaries, and then kick off the capture device scanning code from the application, and then scan through the list of devices found to get the MediaLocator of the web cam.
2) When the user confirms to save, save the Image in users machine at some temporary location with some unique file name.You'd probably be displaying a "preview" window and then you'd just want to capture the image. There are a handful of ways you could capture the image, but it really depends on your situation.
3) Upload the Image to the server from the temporary location.You can find out how to do this on google.
All things told, this application is probably more suited to be a FMJ (Freedom for Media in Java) application than a JMF application. JMF relies on native code to capture from the web cams, whereas FMJ does not.
Alternately, you might want to look into Adobe Flex for this particular application.

TV@ Plus, what video capture settings to use?

I have a TV@ Plus and am unsure what video capture settings to use. I've had it for several months and solved my audio problems and need to know what Video Input Format, Capture Format (Profile), Capture - Size, Quality, Bit Rate and Audio Format settings to use. Should I use the same settings for all input sources or do I use different settings for CATV and S-video inputs? It seems to be OK with my current settings as far as capture and playback goes, I'm OK on the hardware part but with tech detatails I'm a bit .
I will be using it to capture from CATV, DVD and VCR input sources for later recording to DVD's. I use a GoDVD! CT-2 connected to the S-video input for recording Macrovision protected media to the HDD.
My computer sound is monitor mounted stereo speakers.

I already had transferred and converted some of my old VHS and VCD movie collections into DVDs (using Composite Input).
The higher the bit rate the better quality video output you will have - but bigger file size.
To give you an example:
A 2 hour video captured on MPEG set at 4000/bps will be translated it to 3.58GB. More than enough to be written on a 4.7 DVD.
For audio bit rates, you can choose from 128/bps to 224/bps. As for me I set it to 224/bps. Again the bigger bit rates the better audio output. And don't forget to slide up the audio record level to 100%. That will give you a better and clearer recorded audio output.

Shut down the notebook. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory. Post back with the details of any error messages.
Note: If the option to run these tests is not available in the Bios Menu, use the f2 diagnostic menu instead.
Can you also post back with the following details.
1. The full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.
2. The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ).

So i have a IBM system x 3550 m4 booting from SAN Windows server 2012.
I'm trying to capture an image using MDT 2012 installed on windows server 2008 r2.
The first try to capture failed because of lack of proper network driver in WinPE. So i've managed to boot again in the system (the PE after restart was giving me a 0xc000000f bsod). I've put drivers into boot image and started a second attempt to capture.
There was a strange thing: the process was stuck very long on bcdedit sub-tasks (as were lagging the interactive bcdedit calls i've tried to do from command line). But nevertheless it managed to reboot and almost finished capturing but crashed at 83% with
the following in log:

I Sugges you to log into your hotmail acc and go to security and password change bit, then you will see two-step verification.. turn that off and you will be able to set it up on your iPhone/iPad or even Mac.

Using Laptop as Hotspot

I have a laptop and a notebook and only the laptop will connect to the wireless connection. I had the same problem with my work lapttop and it was solved by setting up my personal laptop as a Wifi Hotspot.
Now I'd like to connect my notebook via the laptop as a hotspot but I can't remember how. The notebook shows it's connected to my wireless but I still can't get on the internet.
If I connect my notebook to my neighbor's wireless it works and I am able to access the web. Any suggestions?

Video capture card to use with WebEx

Hi all,
could someone share a list of compatible video capture cards to use in a PC in a WebEx session?
The ideia is to use an external camera (instead of a web cam) to capture the video and I would like to know if this input will be sent as video (if WebEx will recognize the capture card as an input).

thanks for the advice and links... I was having trouble making sense of barefoot.
I have heard that a card that works well for gaming will not necessarily work well for CAD based programs like Maya. can any one confirm or deny this? I can use the software for things like this but I am pretty low on the food chain when it comes to hardware issues.
It is possible I being too picky wanting an affordable card that:
a.) Has been tested successfully by Autodesk with Maya
and
b.)is available to be installed in a Mac Pro

If you're using more than one input DataSource in the case when you have more than 1 client, then you're doing it wrong.
Assuming you're using the proper RTP infastructure, you'll just need to add each client as a target for the RTPManager. If what I just said doesn't make sense, then you're doing it wrong.
