Capturing footage and audio is off sync?
I'm capturing footage and then play it back on the timeline. I notice that the audio is off sync, why is that? I use Sony DVCAM Deck to capture without altering the setting, in Final Cut Pro 6, and the audio became off sync. Any solution?
Thank you
Luis
Is it consistently off-sync? Like is it always 2 frames off? Or does it trail off, like it starts in sync and then it drifts out of sync after several seconds? I recently captured a bunch of stuff that was recorded with a DVX100 and the audio was 2 frames ahead of the video (sometimes it seemed like it was only 1 frame off, but 99% of the time it was 2).
Then another problem that crept up was when it got to the end of a tape, which would confuse Final Cut. It would stop, and then make the last clip captured play at 29.97 when it should have been 23.98, though the audio would play back normally. So it would appear to be in sync for a moment and then it would get way out of sync very quickly. What I had to do then was just babysit the capture of the last scene on the tape and stop it before it got to the end.

I have read a number of forum treads and I'm at my wits end. I want to capture in HD edit it in real time and export to DVD, BlueRay and Flash. I have spent hours on support and updated every driver and configuration setting that I know. PLEASE will someone tell me what do I need to do to get this to work?
Is it the DELL? Do I go to a Mac? (Ironic that most adobe tutorials are on Macs) Do I need a different solution? I'm going crazy! Maybe it's me and I'm capturing and creating sequences all wrong. Please provide a workflow that is working for you. Let me know if you need more specifics. Thank you in advance!2. I did a search for HDVSplit and came up with this site. http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm Is this correct? Is there a released version?

My Video and Audio are not syncing up after importing
I am trying to edit a few Ipad Clips in premier pro. My video and audio are not syncing. They are .mov lower resolution from the ipad. The original audio is fine - but after I put in a sequence the audio is off a few seconds (ahead). I did not add any affects or change anything. Please advise?
Thanks for any help in advance.
AllisonPremiere does not work well with variable frame rate video which, I expect, the ipad produces, You might have to convert the footage before you import it into Premiere. Do a forum search for variable frame rate, there are a lot of posts.

Hello,
I am trying to edit a .mov video in Premiere Elements 12, but the video and audio do not sync as soon as I load it into the program. It appears to work fine in Quicktime.
Thanks in advance.mbgoodwi
Thanks for the reply. This is the plan.
Open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to the Expert workspace.
In the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In the Change Settings area, select the project preset
NTSC
AVCHD
AVCHD LITE 720p30
OK out of there. In the New Project dialog that appears, note that it has your new project preset named.
Be sure to put a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project". And, then OK out of there.
Back in the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, use Add Media/Files and Folders to bring your video
into Project Assets. From Project Assets drag your video to the Timeline Video Track 1/Audio Track 1.
Is there an orange line over the content in the Timeline. See screenshot for orange line to which I am referring.
There should be no colored line over the content if the project preset matches the video properties. But, if you do see
that orange line, then render the Timeline content by pressing the Enter key of the computer main keyboard or press
the Render button above the Timeline.
Do your video/audio now play back in the Edit area monitor in sync?
Please let us know the result, and then we will decide what next.
Thanks.

Should captured footage and timeline edit be kept on seperate drives?
i'm new to FCP and have my captured footage and the edited project contained on an external drive... but from the get-go i've been having, what seem to be, memory issues-- everything starts well, but during each new editing session, the thumbnail images on clips entered into the project timeline soon fail to appear. not long after this behavior begins, the clips themselves, while present on the timeline (i know because they play back) are invisible each time i drag them down for editing. after i save the project, shut down and restart, everything is present and back to normal... but once i begin editing, the behavior described above begins to reoccur.
i'm wondering if this issue could be resolved by keeping the project on the apple's internal hard drive while maintaining the captured footage on the external scratch drive... or maybe there's something else going wrong here. any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
mac g5 Mac OS X (10.3.5) 3.5 gig ramThe generally accepted principle is to keep the
project file on the system drive and all captured
media and render files on a secondary internal (or
external) drive.
Personally I keep my thumbnails on the system drive
as well. They're tiny.
jim, thanks for the response. is there a trick to putting the project and thumbnails on the system drive, keeping them separate from the external scratch drive? or is this easy to figure out? thanks again.

I am trying to play an mp4 in quicktime and the video and audio does not sync. Any tips? This is not hack/ripped video but a legit home movie.
In this case, it looks like Quicktime wasn't very efficient in managing memory, leading to a slowdown in playback. If QT has a lag and VLC doesn't, that's more evidence.
I couldn't say why your friend's windows computer plays the media fine, while your Mac doesn't. The only thing I could suggest is to disable QT streaming video - which has been known to slow down performance. -
Video and Audio cut off in Premiere CC after Syncing in PluralEyes 3
So I sycronized this sequence in PluralEyes 3. I exported it as an XML for Premiere Pro. I imported the XML into Premiere Pro CC. When I oppened up the sequence the end off all the clips are missing audio and video. More is missing for the longer clips. You can see how the clips are blocked off. I have video from a T3i and a K-x and audio from an H4N. Running OSX Mavericks on a Macbook Pro 15in Retina w/ Nvidia 650M 1G. Anybody have a solution or know why it's doing this?
ThanksFigured out that this happens if you import your assetts into premiere. Create a sequence. Export an XML from Premiere to PluralEyes. Sync it. Create an XML for Premiere and then import it into Premiere.
It works properly if you start in PluralEyes with your assetts and then Impot the synced XML into Premiere. Its a shorter and smarter way to do it anyway. I was trying to do it the way I used to on PC. -
Video and Audio not in sync after capture
Hi there,
This is probably a common problem, I have trawled the site but can't seem to find and explanation for it.
I'm capturing vide/audio into final cut pro from my SONY DVR. The video i have streaming into the sony DVR is from a small covert video device which records video/audio onto an SD card. SO I'm running that into the DVR and then DVR is outputting that as DV PAL firewire (uncontrollable device).
I'm capturing the 40 minutes of video as one clip, and when i drag it into the timeline the audio and video are WAY out of sync. Is there a simple reason for why this is happening?
It's almost as if not capturing it right.
I hope someone can help,
Thanks in advance.
Jamie McIntyreIt is interesting that you are having this problem. I recently purchased a brand new Mac Pro (a week ago) and I am using Premiere Pro and it is doing the exact same thing. I mean this video and audio is REALLy out of sync. I tried capturing an hour at a time, and 30 minutes at a time. Still, no luck. I was debating on getting Final Cut, but after reading this post I am rethinking not only Final Cut, but using Apple all together. Part of me thinks that it is not a Premiere or Final Cut problem but a Mac OS problem. But hey, what do I know. I only edit for a living.

Audio always off sync after converting .asf files?
Hi, my problem is that it seems that every time I convert .asf files the audio always ends up off sync. Many programs don't even convert them at all, like ffmpegX, but my favorite video converter VisualHub does convert, but like I said before the audio is always off sync. Does anyone know of any software that can reliably convert .asf to another video format without the audio messing up?
On a side note, I do have plug ins such as Perian and Flip4Mac that allows Quicktime to read the files just fine, it's converting them that causes problems. For reference, the particular files I'm having trouble with use the WMV3 video codec and wmav2 audio codec. I think that's the problem. My problem is a bit different, though just as irritating. I can't believe Adobe hasn't fixed this given how long since the original post has been up here. I capture satellite programming from a professional c-band satellite every week. I use good old fashion Quicktime to capture 30 minute programs for later broadcast. Our job is to capture the video from the satellite, clip the commercials at the beginning and end of the program and then export a clean version as an MPEG2 file. Quicktime provides two capture settings: high (which provides a very large ProRes file in 16bit stereo) or medium (which provides a manageable H264 file in AAC stereo). Both are Quicktime files.
While I don't have sync issues with the ProRes file, the file that is captured using H264 and the AAC stereo gets pushed out of sync by just enough frames to make it necessary to fix. This is adding about 2 to 3 hours of studio time each week to our production given we have to process about a dozen of these files. Viewing the original quicklime files using the newest version of quicklime or the old Quicktime program and most other video players yields a perfectly in-sync experience; it's just when it's imported into Premier Pro CC 2014 that the sync. problem appears. One solution that has worked is taking the master file and exporting it again as a .dv file, but this actually takes longer than fixing the sync issue within Premiere. My guess is it may be the AAC audio process that may be the problem.
We only started using Premiere a few months ago and are already re-evaluating whether we should return to FCP. We were really like most of the Adobe apps within Creative Cloud, but we use Premiere to much to put up with such a major flaw. I do wish Adobe would monitor some of these forums; they have no idea how customer service plays a key role for future software purchases. -
Picture and audio out of sync on DVCPRO50 clips
I digitized some 29.97 fps/16-bit audio DVCPRO50 footage in FCP6 at DVCPRO50 setting. The captured quicktime clip plays back fine in the quicktime player, but when I drop the clip into a DVCPRO50 project timeline, the video plays back faster than the audio. The longer the clip plays, the more the sync discrepency. I digitized several clips, and I noticed that the data rate is different for each clip, varying between 6.0 and 6.2 MB/sec. One clip with a data rate of 7.0 MB/sec plays back fine, same settings, same everything. What made this clip different, and why does it work when the others, all the same except the data rate, don't? More importantly, is there some way to change it so it does work without having to re-capture my footage?
How long are the clips that are out of sync? In my experience there is a bug that appears from time to time that throws DVCPRO 50 footage out of sync if you capture it in chunks longer than 10 minutes. The only solution I have found is to go back in a break up the capture so that clips are no longer than 10 minutes a piece. Look in the browser under the audio column and instead of seeing 48khz you will probably see something like 47.982345 khz or similar. If that's the case then you have to re-digitize. Make sure you are using log and capture instead of capture now, and try not to run any other programs on the mac while you capture.

MPEG4 video from imovie is sluggish and audio out of sync
Hi y'all,
I am new to this. So I need some hand holding here. I am working with video that was exported in MPEG4 video from imovie on a mac.
The Camera I used is a Sony FX7 HD camera with SD tape.
So Now I am trying to edit the video using Premiere Pro CS3 creative suite.
Import into CS3 is fine. Playing the imported video in the source monitor is fine as well. All looks well.
However, here are the challenges I am having:
1. When I try to play it in the Program monitor its very sluggish. Audio plays fine but picture lags behind.
2. And once I edit the the video and try to export it as flash video or as a windows media, the video and audio are out of sync.
The video is choppy as well.
Details: source video is 720x480 and trying to export to 320x240
My project details are:
DV-NTSC standard 48khz
Video is 10 min longOK, not my choice of workflows, but... I assume that the MP4's are H.264 encoded. There are many of these. Three common ones are Lead, MainConcept and Apple. Some find that one works better than the others. These are not the ONLY versions, but are common. You might want to explore others, depending on which one you have installed. G-Spot can tell you which you have.
Next, you can Render your Timeline, to get things as smooth as possible.
Note that the MP4 files are heavily compressed already. Quality has been lost, and there is nothing that can be done about that. When you Export to, say DVD, you will recompress that material, and loose even more.
In the future, have your Mac-person do the Capture to .MOV [Animation CODEC]. Or, do it yourself to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio.
Not sure of any other ways to get the MP4's playing more smoothly. Much will depend on both your CPU and on your system's I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, controller type and how they are utilized.
Good luck,

Anybody else experiencing video & audio not in sync since upgrading to Lion? I have a MacBook Pro 15-inch, Early 2011 with
AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB graphics. I mostly stream You Tube, Netflix, & news videos and occasionally watch movies I have in iTunes or on DVD, and since upgrading, I've seen out of sync video and audio in every one of these situations. Sometimes it starts out OK and then slowly deteriorates. Other times it just starts out that way and stays that way. Happens with all browsers as well as iTunes and DVD Player. Tried a few Google searches but haven't come across any postings reporting this with Lion, so I thought I would try here. Thanks for any confirmations and/or pointers to a solution if there is one.Ahh...boom. I have it too. Forgot it was even there. I had it turned off back when running Snow Leopard since it was glitchy. Apparenty, I somehow reenabled it and wasn't even aware it was on since its volume was turned down. After disabling it, all video & audio appears to be in sync.
boom...the sound you'll hear as I nuke it from my system.
Thanks efrancis76 for figuring this out. Much appreciated! -
Every clip and timeline is off-sync!
All my footage and timelines have slipped off sync about 5 frames. When opened in quicktime, everthing is normal again. What could possibly be wrong!
Could you clarify a little: are you saying that when you export from that timeline to a QT movie, it is perfectly in sync, or are you talking about a previous export before the problem occurred?

Capturing Video (and audio) in iMovie 09?
Hello-
I need to import some video and audio form some beta tapes and am wondering if this can be done in iMovie 09? Some of the tapes are hour long documentaries that i have scored and I have read on this forum that people have run into problems when trying to capture more than 5 minutes of footage. I have also read that there have been issues capturing the audio.
Would I have more success capturing in FCE? Picture and audio quality is paramount for me.
Thanks!!dnito wrote:

You can import into iMovie '09, but you need some kind of analog-digital video converter.
Apple sells this one: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TJ555LL/A
but there are many other devices available. Some with less features are substantially cheaper.
My old Firewire connected camcorders can do this conversion, but not all can, so take a look at your camcorder's manual if you do not already know.
iMovie can take the Firewire output of your converter and capture the import directly to your disk.
The video output quality of VCR tapes will not be as high as digital sources, but, in my experience, you will certainly lose some video quality with iMovie '09. I suggest you test a short segment captured or imported into iMovie '09. If you see video too much degradation, test with FCE. FCE will retain all the quality that your VCR tapes can offer.

Audio is off sync with videos on Ipod Touch.
My Ipod touch does not want to seem to play the audio in correct sync with my videos anymore. I have not done or changed a thing lately. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. I am running firmware 1.1.5
Update My iTouch is downgraded to 1.1.5 successfully. I used a pc that had an un updated version of iTunes installed (7.6) and after 2 attempts using the power off + home combination described in the firmware 1.1.5 post, I was able to successfully "restore" to the latest "1.1.5" iTouch software. When the touch reset, before establishing a sync relationship with the pc, I reattached it to my mac and selected "new ipod" rather than restore from backup. I then synced and tested on of the previously screwed up videos. It plays without any audio sync problems. This processes is more or less what the genius bar instructed me to do. I was reluctant to download any software not coming directly from apple. If anyone knows where the firmware file is stored on iTunes PC version, I would greatly appreciate the location. I want to save the file on my mac now that I know this is a good version. When Apple comes out with 2.1, I want to have a fall back.
